looking at his stuff

He'd hand-carve the wood
from an entire table

it was the most awesome piece
of recycled wood art
I'd ever seen.

And then he would sell them?

Turns out he wasn't homeless
after all, but...

the guy actually rented

above where he worked.

He just liked working
on the streets.

that I'd made an assumption,

in one of these festivals,

I was six years old.

My dad, the handsome chap,
most of you know behind me,

built me a tetrahedral.

This one here.

This kite is, uh...

It represents the bonds
of family.

Strength, commitment, and love.

Love that has been unkept
and free...

its way back.

As many of you know,

I moved back here
with my daughter

after several years
of living away...

and I gotta say,

I am so happy
that we made that decision.

For many reasons,
this place is special,

our family, old friends,
this festival.

But it's become
even more special, for us,

because of new friends,

and specifically
one particular person.

The same person
who just so happens

to have beat the socks off me
in the competition today,
