The Starry Night, The Starry Sea

- Episode 18 -

Who gave you the jade you are wearing?

Was it a woman you loved deeply?

The past owner of this jade pendant was named Bai Yihan.

She was the woman I loved.

She sacrificed everything for me.

Yet I... was unable to redeem her life.

This is my greatest regret in this lifetime.

Life and death are ruled by fate, right? Don't be too sad.

Let bygones be bygones.

Now, you have me, right?

Let's not talk about unhappy stuff.

By the way, have you been to many places?

Yes.

In that case, where have you been to before?

I've lived in New York for a period of time.

Really? Tell me, are there any fun things to do?

That was in 1865.

The American Civil War had just ended. The institution of slavery had not been abolished.

That was my first time being in a foreign land far away. Everything was strange to me.

Tell them the props are all here already.

Hey, please hold it for me for a while.

Here, give it to me.

- Here. - Okay. Thanks.

Wu Julan, hurry up! Go and change some money.

Please wait for a while. He'll be back very soon.

Do you want to look at some other items?

Okay.

Thank you.

Is this yours?

Sir!

Is this yours?

Thank you.

Wait.

Wu Julan, I've finally found you.

Wu Julan, where did you go to get change?

The customer has already left.

Do you two know each other?

I don't know her.

You don't know who I am, but I know who you are.

You are Wu Julan, right?

Who are you?

I'm a reporter from New York's Natural Science Magazine. My name is Michelle.

Magazine reporter? How do you know Wu Julan?

Some time ago, I saw an online video about a sliced fish feast.

Before that, I've only ever read about such an ancient sliced fish feast.

I never imagined that it'd actually be a continued tradition.

Hence, I contacted the video's poster.

I've also spent some effort before finally finding this place.

I've come here this time just to interview Wu Julan.

So, this is it.

I'm sorry. I've no interest in accepting the interview.

You gave me a fright earlier.

I thought your identity was revealed.

Fortunately, it was just a false alarm.

Wu Julan, what are you doing?

We will stop our business today. Let's go back earlier.

Everything was going on well. Why stop the business?

It's the peak season for tourism now.

If we don't try to make a little more money now, how are we going to feed ourselves in the next half of the year?

You really don't know anything about household matters. You have no idea how expensive the daily necessities are.

Why are you looking at me?

Speak please. Why do we have to stop our business early today?

I don't want others to disturb us. I only want to be alone with you.

So annoying. The only thing you know is love.

Brother Tou, it's as you predicted!

That Dr. Zhen Aiguo really did take out some money from the bank!

I got it.

What "be together alone?" We're clearly just washing clothes together!

Stinky Wu Julan! A girl as pretty as a flower is in front of you.

Why aren't you enlightened yet?

♫ Droplets of tears from the sky transform into fallen stars ♫

♫ Open your eyes and drop your gaze ♫

♫ The meteors say that there’s no regret ♫

♫ Deeply sleep in the embrace of the ocean ♫

What are you doing?

I saw you pouting your lips and thought you'd like a kiss.

I didn't! Am I, Shen Luo, such a hungry and thirsty person?

I'm... doing exercise to make my face smaller!

Really! I'll do it for you if you don't believe me.

♫ Alone, I watch the northern stars ♫

What are you doing?

Your face is so skinny, it's almost gone.

Then did it get smaller?

I think it's a little smaller.

♫ I have witnessed ephemerality and eternity together at this moment ♫

But I'll have to move closer to be able to see more clearly.

♫ All love has finally received an echo ♫

♫ All love has finally received an echo ♫

I'll go open the door!

Xiao Luo!

Village Chief?

Weren't you that reporter from just now?

Yes.

What is it? You two know each other?

That's great!

Village Leader, what is it?

It's currently the busy period for tourism.

The island's hotels are all full.

This is a troubling matter.

If possible, can you let this reporter from New York

come stay at your house for a few days?

It's not very convenient...

Xiao Luo, Miss Michelle

is our island's VIP guest!

Just pretend like it's a favor to me!

VIP guest?

I didn't just come to interview Wu Julan this time.

At the same time, I will do an in-depth review of the island's tourism industry.

That's right! That report,

when it's published outside of here,

will draw many more tourists to our island!

Xiao Luo, you must represent all of us

and treat Miss Michelle well.

Miss Michelle, what's wrong?

- Is it an emergency?- You were fine just now!

How could you suddenly faint?

Don't go!

Don't go.

Wu Julan, don't leave me.

Wu Julan, don't go!

Don't leave me, okay?

Hey! What's up with you?

You're going to let her take advantage of you?

Why don't you know how to reject her?

I'm sorry.

Does Mr. Zhang live here?

You are...?

I'm his friend.

I've worked with Dr. Zhang for many years.

For ease of care, I brought him to live at my house.

When he first arrived here, Dr. Zhang passed me his payroll card for safekeeping.

He said I can take any living expenses straight from the card.

Dr. Zhang is over there.

- You two talk, I won't bother you.- You've worked hard.

It's okay! It's what I should do. You two talk.

What are you doing?

I didn't do anything!

Talk!

I just wanted to peel an apple!

Hurry and let go! She said she just wanted to peel an apple!

I'm sorry, Miss Michelle.

Our Wu Julan cares too much about me. He didn't scare you on purpose.

It's okay. I was wrong, too.

I didn't greet him before, that's why Wu Julan misunderstood.

Miss Michelle, you're too kind.

Don't be so courteous, just call me Michelle.

I'll call you Xiao Luo, okay?

That's not a problem!

Come, come. Eat some more.

The most important thing now is to improve your body!

How delicious!

Of course, it's delicious! Wu Julan made it.

Really? Wu Julan, you're too amazing!

She's praising you! Give her some reaction!

Thanks.

Actually, I'm most looking forward to the sashimi feast.

Will I have a chance to see it?

I don't do the sashimi feast any more.

Why?

We're not allowed to fish right now, so we can't make sashimi feasts for now.

But... without a report on the sashimi feast, I won't have anything to give when I go back.

How about this? I'll find a chance to introduce you to my friend.

Our island has many other traditions. You can change the topic of your article, right?

- Thank you, Xiao Luo.- You're welcome! Come, eat.

Liangliang!

Liangliang?

It's not wrong, is it? This is the records room.

Liangliang!

Liangliang?

Isn't this Liangliang's jacket and high heels?

Could it be...?

Is that you, Jiang Yisheng? Stop dragging your feet, hurry over here.

This... Liangliang, isn't this too open-minded?

Y-You can't blame me. Liangliang has spoken.

Then I can only play along!

Liangliang, I'm coming! Come!

What are you doing?

Just now... Just now, it was too hot!

Come here.

Hurry and help me look.

L-Look for what?

Zhang Aiguo, you know?

I know.

It's like your Dr. Zhang Aiguo disappeared from the face of the earth.

There's no method of communication to be found in the records at all.

You want to look for Zhang Aiguo? I know where he is.

Xiao Wang, how is Dr. Zhang doing?

He's still the same.

That's right, Dr. Jiang. Did you need something from Dr. Zhang?

I have a paper I want to ask Dr. Zhang about.

I'm afraid you'll have to be disappointed.

Why?

Where'd he go?

He was just here! Where did he go?

He couldn't have gone far. I'll go look.

His nephew was with him just now.

- You said his nephew just came?- Yes.

He's here!

Found it!

Dr. Zhang, are you okay?

I've found an earthworm.

Earthworm.

This... is Dr. Zhang Aiguo?

Yes. He got Alzheimer's two years ago.

It's progressed so far now, he doesn't recognize anyone.

Boss An, I found Zhang Aiguo.

But it doesn't matter if you see him or not.

Why is it you again? Are you sick?!

Buyan! A big movie was just released! It's really good!

The tickets are hard to get! Let's go watch a movie!

I'm not going!

There's lots of good food nearby! Why don't I treat you?

I have no appetite!

No, how about this?

There are lots of fun things nearby! Why don't I take you to play?

You're such a pain!

I already said I'm not going!

Are you okay? What's wrong?

Are you okay?

Where did you get hit? Tell me!

Not good, I think I'm going to be a cripple!

No way! Tell me where it hurts!

Tell me!

I think there's only one way to fix it!

What is it? Tell me!

Forget it! You wouldn't agree to it anyway!

- I'll agree, tell me!- Swear!

I swear, I swear!

Let's watch this movie first!

Buyan! Buyan!

The movie tickets still work! We can still go and watch!

Xiao Luo, how can you be so unreliable?

You invited us to a potluck, but you are late.

How insincere!

Be quiet!

I brought a VIP guest here to make it up to you all.

This is a reporter from America, Miss Michelle.

Hello, everyone. You can just call me Michelle.

- Sister Michelle, are you really a reporter?- Yes.

How could there be such a pretty reporter?

You're talking nonsense again. Who says reporters can't be pretty?

Michelle, we're all family, so you don't need to hold back.

Take whatever you want to eat and drink.

Okay.

- Regulus.- How is it going?

Your feelings are right. It seems like An Zuo's people are also investigating this matter.

But don't worry. The main doctor from back then has Alzheimer's.

He cannot tell anyone about Shen Luo's resurrection from death.

I got it.

Here's what you wanted.

By the way,

who is that Michelle outside?

This person is a bit strange. It seems like she knows me very well.

When I see her, I feel like I know her from somewhere.

How could that be? The last time you came onto land was in 1865.

It's already been over a hundred years. How could there be anyone alive from that time?

I also have a feeling that she'll harm Xiao Luo.

Find a chance to test her.

Yes.

It looks delicious!

This is overly burnt. I don't want this skewer.

You're about to start drooling.

No, I'm not!

Big brother, sit here!

- Is it done yet?- I'll sit here.

You're hungry, right? It's time to eat!

- Thank you!- Here.

Da Tou.

That's right. Miss Michelle

wants to know more about our island's culture.

If you guys know any good places to eat or play, then tell her.

- Got it?- Don't worry!

Xiao Luo, your friend is our friend!

This tastes good, eat some more.

Okay.

Miss Michelle, I heard from Xiao Luo that you came from New York?

That's right. I work in New York in the office of Natural Science magazine.

New York's Natural Science magazine is well-known.

I remember that it's in Manhattan, right?

Right. It's near Times Square.

It looks like you know a lot about New York.

I also lived for a few years in New York.

By the way, I remember there's a Green Gallery Pub near your magazine's office.

The wine braised beef there is very good.

I just went there a few months ago.

I go to Green Gallery Pub often, but I think Miss Wu you've remembered wrongly.

They changed chefs a year ago, so they stopped serving wine braised beef.

Is that so? Then I must have remembered wrong.

- Sister Michelle, do you have a boyfriend?- No.

You don't have a boyfriend?

Then do you have someone you like?

Yes. There's a person that I've liked since childhood.

I will marry only him. What he likes or hates,

what he can't let go of,

in any case, I remember everything about him.

In these years, I've been working hard to make myself someone he likes.

Such a smart and capable girl like you,

who is also greatly infatuated with the man. Don't tell me that he isn't moved at all?

It's because he doesn't know about my existence.

No way! You have a one-sided love?

Since you like him, you should pursue him bravely!

Xiao Luo, do you really think I should take the initiative?

Of course!

You're right.

How could you easily let go of the person you love?

Even if he wants to run away, I will tie him to my side with a rope.

Wu Julan, will you leave me?

I won't.

What if one day, you want to leave me? Then what?

Use a rope to tie me by your side.

You're the one that said it!

- Are you okay? Why weren't you more careful?- It's okay.

What's up with you two? Tell us everything!

Just like what you are thinking. Wu Julan is already officially linked,

and has become my one and only boyfriend!

Alright, Xiao Luo.

You successfully obtained Wu Julan just like that!

Of course! If I do it myself, what can't I do?

- Xiao Luo, Wu Julan, congratulations.- Thank you.

Wu Julan, oh, Wu Julan.

I'm impressed!

I didn't think that you would jump into the fire pit even after thinking it through!

Who are you calling a fire pit? Do you want to die?

Relax. Breathe deeply.

Your heart is slowly calming down.

You will feel a level of comfort you've never felt before.

I will take you to a new beautiful world.

Now, I will ask you some questions.

You must answer honestly, do you understand?

I understand...

Who are you?

I am Michelle.

Michelle, why did you come to the island?

To find Wu Julan.

Michelle, why did you want to find Wu Julan?

Answer me. Why did you want to find Wu Julan?

I was looking for him to... to...

[Text from Jiang Yisheng: Liangliang, where are you ?]

What's up with me? How strange.

Here.

Thank you.

Why are you keeping your distance from me?

I know. I misunderstood Wu Julan before.

But since you've made up your mind,

I will respect you. As long as you're living happily, then I'm happy.

Da Tou, thank you.

I believe that one day, you will find your own happiness, too.

I'll go back first.

Let me help you.

There's no need.

It's just a small task, don't be so courteous!

Wu Julan!

Xiao Luo, there's nothing between me and Wu Julan.

Don't misunderstand.

I know, Wu Julan is a woodblock. He won't flirt with other girls.

You two have a really good relationship.

You brat! Don't think I don't know what you want to do!

Buyan will definitely like this!

Why are you drinking so much?

Stop drinking! What are you doing?

I already told you not to drink! Give it to me!

Let me ask you! Are you drowning your sorrows in wine for that Shen Luo?

She already said that she has a boyfriend now!

Why are you torturing yourself like this?

Fine! You drink! Drink all of this! Just go drink and die!

I don't want to bother with you any more!

Don't go.

Xiao Luo.

Xiao Luo. Xiao Luo! Xiao Luo...

Xiao Luo...

They've already gone in! Why isn't she here yet?

She still hasn't come, still hasn't come...

The number you have called is temporarily unavailable...

It's all your fault! The tickets are all sold out!

Okay, okay, okay. I was wrong, okay?

Wait!

What is it?

- What is this?- Take it. It's about to start.

Don't waste it.

It's starting. Hurry and go in!

- Hurry, hurry!- Thank you.

Women are better at this. Let me help you.

I don't know what intentions you have,

but you'd best give up.

What is it?

I wanted to see Wu Julan's jade piece, but I think I got him angry.

Don't put it in your heart. Wu Julan doesn't like others touching his jade piece.

Wu Julan loves that jade piece so much. The person that gave it to him must be very important to him.

Xiao Luo, did you give it to him?

It wasn't me.

Is that so? I heard that a man who doesn't play around might have an innocent personality.

But it also may be because he has someone he can't forget in his heart.

That's why he's not interested in other women.

Who are you?

Where is the black knife?!

What black knife? I've never heard about it before!

Since you don't know anything, then it's useless to keep you around!

I'll tell you, I'll tell you! I don't have that thing any more!

Now! Now it's inside the Far East Exhibition Hall.

It's the truth! Please don't kill me!

Father, very soon, I'll be able to do what I promised you.

Why aren't you asleep yet?

I have something to ask you.

What is it?

Wu Julan, be honest. Are you still hung up on your ex-girlfriend?

Why are you suddenly asking about that?

If you aren't still hung up on her,

then why won't you let others touch the jade piece she gave you?

Why have you been single for all these years?

Yes. Indeed, I cannot let go of her.

I'm done for!

How can I fight with a dead person? I'm losing for sure!

I can't let go of her, but that's all in the past.

Even if she's my one regret in this life, I cannot turn back time.

In my heart, the one I care about most is you.

Really? Right now, the person that is most important to you is me?

Yes, it's you.

This is great! Why didn't you say so earlier?

- What do you need? - The carrots look pretty fresh!

- Yes. - Give me half a kilogram.

Okay!

How are the tomatoes? Are they fresh?

They're fresh! Don't worry!

- Give me half a kilogram.- Okay.

What else do I need?

You're buying too much for two people!

What do you know? If you want to capture a woman's heart,

then you first have to capture her stomach!

This time, I want to tightly capture Liangliang in my hand!

This is really an appropriate retribution! Jiang Yisheng, today is finally your day to reckon with!

Let me remind you. Be careful of that Michelle.

What's wrong with Michelle?

Based on my experience of years of wandering back and forth among girls,

this woman is not simple. She might have her eye on Wu Julan.

You're overthinking things! Besides, I'm so attractive!

Who's afraid of who?

Handsome man, it's ready!

Okay! How much is it?

Hello, Michelle?

Xiao Luo, I'm lost!

You got lost? By the ocean?

Okay, okay.

Don't move. I'll go look for you right now.

I'll be there soon.

Okay.

Why do you have that picture?

So... you still remember her?

Answer my question! Why do you have that picture?

Haven't you already guessed?

Wu Julan, do I look a lot like her?

When I was very little, the elders in my house told me

that I look a lot like an ancestor.

Later on, I happened to find her diary.

This picture was inside the diary.

From that time on, your story has been deeply engraved in my heart.

I watched you two meet in the story,

I watched you two hurt and sacrifice for each other;

sometimes I feel like I'm seeing myself in the picture.

So when I saw that picture, I had to come find you.

Wu Julan! Don't make me lose you, okay?
