So, about two years ago, 30

after selling my e-commerce company, 31

I was interning in a venture capital firm 32

with some very smart people. 33

And I came to know someone named Lev, 34

who was working in one of the startups there in the VC. 35

I realised that Lev was a little bit different 36

when we began sharing common interests. 37

When I would send Lev an article I found interesting, 38

I'd get a reply back in about a minute or two 39

with half a page of comments. 40

Lev also had a habit of sending me five to 10 news articles 41

every morning as he sat there and drank his coffee. 42

These often were about a minute or two apart, 43

and they all came in the span of under half an hour. 44

Now, eventually, I started to wonder what was up. 45

And so, I went into Lev's office, 46

and I saw him scrolling rapidly down the page. 47

So I said, "Lev, if you're not going 48

"to actually read the articles, 49

"you can't rightfully send them for me to read." 50

Lev told me that, actually, he did read the articles. 51

And when I pressed for details or information 52

about some of them, I saw that, in fact, 53

his comprehension of the articles was extraordinarily high. 54

Now immediately, I thought, "Oh, you read it before 55

"I sent it to you, my mistake." 56

He told me that, no, actually, the speed in which 57

he was scrolling down the page 58

was actually the speed of him reading. 59

I was shocked. 60

I was sure that he was playing tricks on me. 61

I mean, how do you have that level of detail and clarity 62

when you're scrolling on the page 63

as fast as I would scroll if I were searching for something? 64

It was then that Lev told me that his wife 65

is actually one of the leading specialists 66

here in Israel on speed reading and mnemonics, 67

or the study of memory techniques. 68

Now, I'd done some work on speed reading myself, 69

and I'd never actually succeeded. 70

I tried Tim Ferriss' PX method, 71

I tried that Evelyn Wood book, 7-Day Speed Reading. 72

When Lev checked though, 73

my speed was actually at about 450 words a minute, 74

but with about 20% comprehension. 75

Lev, on the other hand, was comfortably reading 76

at about 1500 words a minute 77

with 80 to 90% comprehension. 78

Needless to say, I immediately inquired as to how 79

I could learn this amazing skill, and fortunately for me, 80

Now, they weren't cheap, 82

and the whole process took about six weeks. 83

But, and I have to say this with no exaggeration, 84
