Episode 13

Hey, Brother Yuan.

Xiaohui, I'm just finished work so I'll come over now.

No need

I'm pretty tired today.

How about tomorrow?

Oh, ok

How was your chat with Hao Xiaoqiang? Did you ask what you wanted?

Yes, it's all clear now.

It's fine, I'm fine, don't worry about me.

You sound upset

I'll come over to see you.

You really don't need to, Brother Yuan.

You've worked hard today,

let's both get some rest.

Alright, then go to bed early. Tomorrow...

I'll come over earlier, okay?

Alright, bye.

- Yuan. - Hey Master

Do you have plans tonight?

Nope

Okay, let's go.

Eat properly,

don't look so listless.

Master

how can I have energy?

We have no leads on the Meng Wei case.

Kerui pharmaceutical's stocks have slumped again.

Do you know how it feels right now?

The criminals are running ahead, and we are chasing after them.

If we run fast, they'll run fast. If we run slow, they also run slow.

We can never catch them.

Don't say these disheartening words.

They're not disheartening. I just feel powerless.

Did you know that I went to the stock market again today?

Oh? What did you see?

I saw a crowd of pitiful, yet also crazy people.

Why are they crazy?

They lose all reason when stock prices fall.

They've also hurt Xiaohui.

- She got hurt? Is she okay? - She's fine.

They're also pitiful

because the life savings

of all these people

can vanish overnight.

We can't control if stocks go up or down.

It's also their business if they profit or lose.

But if they profit, it's luck.

But if they lose, is it deserved?

What wrong did they commit?

They just want to earn some money. Who doesn't?

Did Xiaohui do anything wrong?

She is crying so much, but I can't help her.

Yuan, ever since I was moved to the Economics Investigations team,

these feelings get stronger every day.

Now, everyone's talking about the 'Era of Wealth'.

What is an 'Era of Wealth'?

Wealth is a desire.

For desires,

people can do things they have never dreamed of.

Master,

do you think someone is manipulating

the rise and fall of Kerui's shares?

Do you have evidence?

Within the stock market,

it's always the small and medium buyers that are cheated.

That will never change.

Do you know why?

No

They want to push their luck.

Look,

if a person's stocks rise by 1 yuan today,

he would think

"I'll sell it when it's worth 2 yuan."

When it's actually risen to 2 yuan, he'll want it to rise to 3 yuan before he sells.

So that's the psychology

of a gambler.

Those who win will want to win more.

Those who lose want to reverse their fortune.

The stock market is risky

and you must invest with caution,

or there is no turning back.

Oh, you also said something about

running around behind criminals, being unable to catch up to them?

Do you want the criminals to chase after us instead?

This is a race. Don't worry.

One day, they will become exhausted.

But, Yuan

you need to remember this.

Your sense of excitement should never

come from solving major cases.

It should come from not having any cases.

Without cases, it means

that no one is being harmed.

Everyone is safe and secure.

There is peace and prosperity.

Where are my noodles?

- Master? - Yes?

Ever since you moved to the Economics Investigation unit,

- you have become more thoughtful. - Yes

Your speeches are very insightful.

Why don't you move me there too?

Transfer me there!

I want to continue working with you.

Alright then.

Really?

What do you mean? Will you be capable to handle it?

Of course I can.

I'm telling you,

crack Meng Wei's case first.

When this case is solved,

we will be able to expose Kerui's weakness. At that time, anything is possible.

Wait until then.

Building 7, door 1

What are you doing here this early?

Get in, I'll take you to work.

I don't want to go to work today.

I'm going to take a few days off.

What's wrong? Did you not resolve things yesterday?

It's not that,

I just feel that this industry is more complex than I realized.

There's a lot of pressure at work which I can't handle.

That's fine.

You should take a break after what happened yesterday.

If you don't enjoy it and want to quit, I'll support you.

Whilst you're on leave, you can make plans for our wedding.

For example, you could decorate our new place or...

List things we'll need when we are married.

I'll ask Master for some leave too.

Let's get the marriage certificate.

Great

Let's set a date then!

Hang on, I need to take this call.

Hey, Lei.

Okay, alright.

I'll come over now.

You set a date. Let me know.

Something urgent has come up, I need to go.

Be careful and drive slowly ok?

Got it

We have made comparisons with the photographs you provided.

This person is called Chen Erlin.

He used work at a plastic slipper factory.

He is disabled after suffering an injury at work.

When he was made redundant, he relied on state benefits

to care for his elderly mother. I found the address.

He lives at number 26 on Anping Road.

- Contact me anytime if you need anything else. - Alright, thank you. - Goodbye.

Don't mention it.

Let's go

- Is Chen Erlin here? - He's not

His mum is though. She's bedbound.

This is Chen Erlin's vehicle.

Hello Auntie

- Hello - How are you keeping?

Who are you all?

We are from the subdistrict office.

We came to visit you and Chen Erlin.

Please sit, miss.

Thank you.

Auntie, where is Chen Erlin?

He went out to buy medication for me.

He doesn't drive to get medication?

It's nearby - just at the entrance of the alley.

- Oh I see - He'll be back shortly.

Why are you looking for Erlin?

Nothing much

We are here to see you and Erlin on behalf of the subdistrict office,

to see how your living situation is.

I'm very grateful.

You know,

my son is so filial.

It's very difficult for him.

His leg is handicapped

but he's still looking after his mum.

Not only does he make food for me,

he also takes me up and down the stairs of the hospital.

He also needs to make money

because we need to eat.

He's over 40 and still doesn't have a family.

I worry that since he has no children

no one will look after him when he's old.

It's all my fault.

Auntie, I'm sure he will get married and give you a grandchild.

You just need to stay healthy.

If there's nothing else

you should get some rest and look after yourself. We'll come and visit again.

Thank you so much.

You're welcome.

Bye Auntie.

You are Chen Erlin, right?

Yeah, who are you?

We are from the public security bureau (PSB).

What do you need from me?

We need some information from you.

Look at this photo

Is that you?

Yeah, that's me

Do you know him?

I remember him, he's a good guy!

Think about it carefully.

Where and when did he get in your vehicle?

A few days ago

I finished for the morning and was about to get some noodles.

He came and asked me to take him to Sihai residential community.

Sir, can you give me a lift?

Where?

Not far, just to Sihai Residential Community.

Is this enough?

You've seen my living situation,

I needed this business.

So, I let him in the tuktuk.

Can you please wait for me?

You didn't mention about waiting.

I still have more clients after this.

laughing

You're too generous.

What time did he return?

When I first picked him up, it was after 1pm

He returned...

Aiyo, it was probably after 3pm.

The time matches exactly.

And after that?

When we arrived there, my tuktuk broke down.

Sir, let's go.

We can't.

What happened?

The tuktuk broke down. I'm unlucky. Here's your money back, get a taxi.

You keep the money.

Can you push me out?

Are you kidding?

Push you, with my legs?

How about, I'll push you?

But on the condition that we switch clothes.

And give me your scarf too, ok?

You'll push me?

What's the meaning of that?

Your legs are wounded, who'll help you if I don't?

You're a good person!

It's necessary!

You're not going to seize my tuktuk are you?

I need it to take my mother to the hospital.

Don't be nervous, I don't want to seize your tuktuk.

I just wanted to get some information.

That's fine, you can go now.

Your mother's waiting for you.

-Ok, it's all sorted? -Yes, it's fine.

Take your time.

Oh, also

I heard that the canteen at the PSB are looking for workers.

If you're willing, I'll ask around the bureau

to see if you can go and work there.

To go and work at the PSB? That would be amazing.

Where is the bureau?

It's on Jiefang Road.

Oh, that's too far away.

My mother's unwell

so she needs me around.

I'm sorry, but thank you.

Wait a moment.

I'll leave you my phone number.

If you encounter any difficulties, please call me.

Alright.

Thank you. You are such great people.

Thanks

-What were you looking at? -Not at you

I didn't think you would recommend a job for Chen Erlin.

You're very attentive.

His life is difficult.

Police aren't only here to investigate cases, you

also need to think about the people's concerns.

Alright, you're knowledgeable.

But on a serious note

all the evidence is there for Meng Wei's case.

We filmed Chen Erlin's tuktuk entering the community at 2:02pm.

When Tang Hong pushed it out it was 3:31pm.

He was in Meng Wei's house for 1.5 hours.

From when they sat down

to when he poisoned Meng Wei and for the poison to work and Meng Wei to fall asleep,

he would then go and turn on the gas

and pretend that Meng Wei killed himself. He would then escape.

This is enough time.

Every step was meticulously planned.

But luckily the tuktuk broke down,

so the security camera caught the footage.

Now we have testimony

we just need to find Tang Hong and compare the fingerprints

then the evidence will be concrete.

He won't be able to escape.

Should we apply for a warrant now?

This is a big move, I need approval from Director Yang.

Call Director Yang, we'll go back to the bureau now.

Alright, I'll listen to you this time.

Now that the case is about be solved,

your attitude to me has improved. Are you maybe deranged?

You're deranged! Can't you speak nicely?

I'm pleased.

The effort of the last few days hasn't been wasted,

we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

If you're happy, you should smile.

Have you got all your stuff?

- I've got it. - This time,

we will be on the plane for more than 10 hours.

You can't talk loudly on the plane,

- got it? - Yes.

Uncle, I'll take it

- Will you be ok? - Yes I can do it myself

Alright, good luck!

Be careful

It's all organised over in America.

Someone will pick you up when you arrive.

Let me know if you run out of money.

You can also ask Bai Jie, I've let her know already.

You can end the lease on this house.

When Rui Rui is settled in America, I'll come back.

We can go and live in our old house.

Xiao Rong, when Bai Jie and Ai Lin emigrated

I frequently wondered

what's the reason for working hard all my life?

Is it for money, or fame?

It's probably neither.

Didn't you do it for all this?

I recall I've known you and Qian Cheng for more than 20 years.

Qian Cheng was my best friend.

I didn't expect that just before his death

he would be holding me at knife point

wanting to die together.

Truthfully, I felt very distressed.

I've done a lot for myself

but at the end,

I don't want to be without a single friend.

Don't worry. I will always look after

you and Rui Rui.

So Qian Cheng can rest peacefully.

Brother, it's all sorted out.

I'll take them to the airport.

Send them to America

-You want me to go to America? -Yes

Why?

Do what I say.

But I don't understand.

Qian Cheng has already died.

His wife and child are no threat to us. Is it necessary to make such a fuss?

Meng Wei's case isn't closed yet.

Recently, I've been getting a bad feeling.

Go to America and lie low>

When this is all blown over, you can return.

Master, with this testimony we can summon Tang Hong.

If the fingerprints match, he will become a suspect.

In terms of a motive, Tang Hong may not have one,

but Wang Bolin does.

-Is the summons authorised? -Jiaqi is doing it.

I've reported to the bureau

and requested that we open a case to investigate Kerui.

When the summons is ready, go with Jiaqi to bring Tang Hong here.

- Yes. - You can go now.

Got it, let's go

I asked Lei and Little Liu to go to Tang Hong's house. We will go to Kerui.

Ok

1 Notification from Beijiang International Airline:

Dearest Passenger, the flight number UA7590 from Beijiang

to Los Angeles has departed. Have a safe flight!

We are from Beijiang PSB, please take us to Tang Hong's office immediately.

Everyone else, guard the exits, no one may enter or exit from now.

No one's here. He's probably done a runner.

Did you guys find anything?

- Hey, Brother Yuan - Have you found anything?

We were a step too late.

Got it.

He's not at home.

Take this cup away.

Ok, no problem.

It's the police

Please come in.

No need. Is Tang Hong here?

We have a summons for him.

Summons?

Why would Tang Hong be at my house?

Shouldn't you be looking for him?

I'm warning you, Wang Bolin

Tang Hong is implicated in a criminal case.

It is illegal if you are intentionally harbouring him.

You should consider carefully.

Police officer, don't threaten me

I'm a law-abiding citizen.

Don't you watch the news?

I used to be the chairman of Kerui pharmaceuticals

but now I'm unemployed and living leisurely.

Tang Hong used to be my employee.

Now, we have

gone our separate ways.

Tang Hong has worked for you before,

do you not care about him at all?

Are you not curious what crime he committed?

Curiosity killed the cat.

Then again, if he committed a crime,

there's still you police officers.

I don't need to think about all this rubbish all day.

But, Chairman Wang, I would advise you to have a think.

We suspect that Tang Hong is related to Meng Wei's death.

You think Tang Hong

murdered Meng Wei?

Tang Hong has been employed by you for many years

you must know his character well.

Of course I do, I understand it very well.

So if you are saying Tang Hong murdered Meng Wei,

I think that is shocking.

I'm so surprised.

How did you come up with this?

Hello, Lei, what's up.

Brother Yuan, Tang Hong is on a flight to America.

Got it.

Do you want to come in for a seat?

Let's go.

I won't see you out.

Has something happened?

I received a phone call from Lei saying that

Tang Hong has already flown to America.

Call the airline and request for the plane to land or arrest him aboard.

What airline is it?

He's on United Airline, we can't control aboard that airline.

Why are we always a step behind?

What? Tang Hong has escaped?

I was too sloppy, so we were late.

Director Zhou, we should issue a red alert to Interpol

I don't need you to tell me that.

It takes time to apply for and get approval for an arrest

from the authorities. You must be patient.

Fine, I'll report to my senior immediately.

Issuing an alert on interpol requires department approval first.

Go back first.

How was it?

It's challenging because he's crossed the border.

We don't have any other methods currently.

So we've wasted our efforts?

Meng Wei only passed recently, and many investors have gone broke overnight.

Who's responsible for that?

I'm so indignant!

We just have to watch

the suspect escape, and there's nothing we can do?

My being here is meaningless.

You think this is meaningless?

If you think that, then you should quit

and go back to school.

It's normal to face obstacles when investigating a case.

If you give up

then you don't meet the standard for being a police officer.

So what if he went to America

Even if he went to the end of the earth

we will find him and catch him.

Xia Yuan is right.

What's wrong?

I just came from the forensic department,

and the fingerprints are a match. It is Tang Hong.

I have asked the leaders

to incorporate the criminal and economics investigation divisions for this case

and create a special squad to investigate Kerui.

You've worked hard these two days.

Go back and relax tonight.

You'll be busy from now on.

Jiaqi

You're not hungry?

I called you a few times, but you ignored me.

If you're unhappy, don't take it out on the apples.

I still have to try and sell these tomorrow.

Is there a problem at work?

Don't worry about me, dad, go and eat.

I told you before

it's not easy to be a police officer.

This is harder than any other job.

You've encountered a difficulty right?

How about this?

Quit tomorrow, and come home.

Sell apples with me.

Don't suffer like this, ok?

Dad, what are you talking about?

I chose to be a police officer.

I will continue regardless of how difficult it is.

At the start

I wanted to catch Wang Bolin, to reveal how mother was wronged.

But now I've discovered

that my dream is to be a police officer.

I want all the people like Wang Bolin

to have nowhere to hide, to answer to the law.

Do you understand, father?

This is more like it.

This is what I wanted to hear.

Then are you coming to eat dinner?

- Coming! - Bring over the wine.

The open ceremony for Beijiang city's Xingaoke Investment Company Ltd.

is about to begin.

Reveal the plaque!

Beijiang City Xingaoke Investment Company Ltd.

Next we will invite the Chairman

Ma Jianshe to give a speech.

Thank you, presenter.

Good morning everyone.

I welcome you to come and celebrate

the opening ceremony for our new company.

Here, I represent the board

in sincerely

thanking everyone for coming,

and I would like to extend a warm welcome.

Since we acquired Kerui,

we will use significant capital

to invest in biological engineering.

-What is this? -What?

What's this?

Brother, the Development Bank will definitely loan to us right?

Don't worry, there won't be a problem.

... all of these capital operation methods.

Teacher Hao

What do you think of this Xingaoke company?

Should we buy?

Auntie, Xingaoke has just resumed trading. I only recommend stocks.

I can't see the future.

I would advise everyone to follow the technological sector

because the government will announce policies to support this sector.

However, please do not exceed your capabilities.

Don't put all your money into stocks.

Don't repeat the same tragedy as Kerui.

That's because you recommended it.

You told us to buy it.

Everyone, I said, I only recommend stocks.

I recommend those which have room to grow.

Did Kerui's prices rise? Yes they did.

However, it's your business whether it grows or falls.

Apologies.

Don't forget, you're going to take wedding photos with Xia Yuan today.

-Got it -Hurry.

-Got it -Don't be late.

I know.

Take it slow.

Recently, Xingaoke held an opening ceremony

after the requisition of Kerui.

The management team of the Development and Reform Commission attended.

Continue to watch for further information.

Since Kerui's acquisition

we will use significant capital

to invest in biological engineering,

communications engineering, medical therapeutics manufacturing,

and many other novel industries.

Brother, I don't understand

why didn't you tell them to buy Xingaoke Investments just then?

They look like little birds crying for food.

If we place some meat by their mouths

then they would swallow it whole.

But if we give too much information

then they will suspect that we are somehow involved.

What should we do next?

Same old game. Buy it low, sell it high.

Brother, we need accounts.

More than last time.

Excuse me. Is Manger Yu in?

Do you mean Yu Xiaohui?

Yes.

She's off. She haven't come to work for the past few days.

Thanks.

You can head back.

Hello, teacher Hao

I'm Xiaohui

I want to meet you

I wanted to see you because I saw the news this morning

- Kerui has been acquired. - Yes.

I was quite excited when I saw this news.

I didn't think your plan would happen so quickly

That day, what I said was a little harsh.

What should I say...

I'll use coffee instead of wine

to toast you.

Well...

You're not at work.

What have you been doing?

I am about to get married.

I have to take care of a lot of family affairs.

That's nice.

Getting married is a good thing.

I didn't know there was so much to prepare for a wedding.

We need to get around thirty tables.

We also need to send out invitations.

We need to decide who seat where and with who.

It's quite difficult.

We need to order the bedsheets

and bed covers.

We have to get new ones,

so I have been pretty busy.

Sir, you takeout is ready.

Thank you.

It is good that you are busy. It means...

That we are both doing what we need to do.

That's good.

Okay then.

Xiaohui.

Let me know once the date is set.
