Hunting

Episode 9

Brother, what are we aiming at?

30.

All right, get ready.

5,

4,

3,

2,

- 1. - Start.

Come on!

Harder!

Come on!

Beat him!

Come on!

So close!

Come on!

Yeah!

You won.

All right, you wake up now.

Let's start working.

Wait, Brother Yuan.

You let me win, didn't you?

What else could it be?

I was trying to cheer you up. Now get back to work.

Brother Yuan, we have gone through all the security footage.

No one was suspicious.

Then search wider.

Someone must have gone into his apartment.

There must be traces.

Pull out security footage of restaurants, roads, and stores

that are within 3 miles of his house.

Wait, Brother Yuan.

- What? - Isn't that a little bit too much?

Too much?

Not at all.

Get to work.

Let's wrestle next time.

Cool.

Make a trip to Kerui with me.

Kerui?

Let's meet the new manager.

Hao Xiaoqiang is not bad.

It has increased by 5% before noon.

Chief Wang, there are police officers here. They want to see Chief Liang.

Should I send them to a conference room?

I got it.

The cops are here.

Have you talked to Liang Xiaohua?

I have. Don't worry.

You should go. I won't show up.

All right.

Let's get there more quickly. Okay?

Hello! Welcome.

- Welcome! - How are you doing?

I am Xia Yuan from the Criminal Investigation Division.

Nice to meet you. Hello.

Let me introduce myself. I am Kerui's Vice Director. My name is Tao Hong.

This is our new Development Manager, Liang Xiaohua.

Hello.

Rest assured.

Chief Wang told us to cooperate with you as much as we could.

Please sit.

Xiaohua, these two officers are here for due diligence.

Tell them everything you know,

all right?

Please sit.

Chief Liang, you must have heard about Chief Meng.

I have.

Do you know the product

that he was working on?

I do. He led our team to work on it.

What's your responsibility in this team?

Chief Meng did the development work. I was just a researcher.

Is it true what Journalist Chen said?

I am sorry.

It concerns our Kerui's business secrets.

I really can't help you.

I am sorry.

All right.

Chief Liang, how long have you been working for Kerui?

Three years.

You became a director only after three years?

Isn't that too soon?

You should ask Chief Tang and Cheif Wang about that.

I don't find it strange at all.

It's our tradition to promote those who have talent.

Use the ones that are qualified.

Yes. Chief Meng was the one who led the team,

but you must know that he had depression.

He wasn't able to continue to work.

Most of the work

was done by Chief Liang.

Chief Liang, may I ask you?

As a professional researcher,

do you think it's possible to cure hepatitis completely?

Who dares to say

he can cure it completely?

But at the same time, it's our biggest goal.

For example, you are a police officer.

I think a cop who doesn't want to catch all the bad guys is not a good cop.

Vise versa, who doesn't want to cure hepatitis can't produce good medicine.

Is it the same thing?

Chief Tang, I was asking Chief Liang.

Oh, sure, sure.

It can't be cured completely now,

but we have been trying to produce it

by doing experiments.

The chance to fail is very high,

but it's not absolutely impossible.

As for our progress,

I am sorry.

It's our top secret.

The new product has been approved by the Medical Products Administration.

I don't think that's secret.

It's under examination. The result will come out soon.

What about the clinical trial records? Can you publish them?

Of course.

Once it's approved, we will publish it.

All right. I have no further questions.

Let's go.

Thank you for your cooperation.

No problem.

Take care.

What were they talking about?

Nothing of value.

Their words were vague.

They are either being cautious

or being bribed.

It's highly possible.

Brother, are we going back to the bureau?

Yes.

See if the technical team and the examiner have any updates.

- Excuse me. - Come in.

Director Yang,

I am here to own up from my mistakes.

What mistakes?

I shouldn't have gone to Meng Wei's scene.

I was rushed.

Thank you for helping me out.

What? Do you want to join their division?

What did you find?

For now, it looks like a suicide,

but they are still working on it.

Yes. It requires much work.

You must be patient.

- Here. - What's this?

I have had Chen Zhiyuan go to the securities company

and check

Kerui's shareholders' information.

If someone is manipulating it,

they must have opened and held a position.

If they hold more than 5%

they will be the shareholder.

And that person will be our target.

Yes.

I suppose no one will hold more than 5%.

They are not that dumb.

Right. There is not.

But that's the logic of solving cases.

We must do more than just suspect it.

We must find evidence in the details.

It doesn't help to be impatient.

Director Yang, I know I was wrong.

Please punish me. I will take it.

Forget about it.

But I do hope

you can act appropriately.

Then, you will allow me to go on?

Who said that?

Then...

Did I say you weren't allowed?

Director Yang,

you are being very...

I shall leave.

I am being wise.

We examined Meng Wei's body.

The cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning.

Nothing else.

A great amount of Benzodiazepine was found in his body.

It's due to the sleeping pills.

But I have compared it with the sleeping pills from his apartment.

I think they are not the same product.

Not the same?

I don't think so. The one he has been taking is made in China.

It's not that strong.

The other one must be a foreign product.

What is the time of death?

From 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All right, I got it. Thank you, Dr. Zhang.

I will pick up the report later.

The report has been picked up by Wu Jiaqi.

All right, I will go find her. Thank you.

Brother Yuan, so Meng Wei might have been drugged before he died?

Meng Wei had depression.

It's possible that he had more than one

sleeping pill. This can't be direct evidence.

We must find the suspects soon

in order to prove that he was murdered.

Tell our people to go through his stuff, including his office at Kerui.

Yes.

You shouldn't be looking at this.

I am the police, too. Why can't I?

Do you know the rules at all?

I was doing you a favor by letting you in last time.

I wouldn't have let you if Master didn't tell me so.

I didn't know you would keep stepping over the line.

This is our case. You don't have the right to take it.

I just wanted to see the results. I was going

to bring it back to you once I finished.

Also, Officer Xia, I don't think you are my supervisor.

My supervisor knew and agreed on me doing this.

What are you to disagree?

Really? Let's go.

Let's talk to your supervisor.

- Director Yang. - Come in.

Yuan, I think

you should have Wu Jiaqi work with you...

on this case...

together.

Why?

See this.

You see it, right?

Master, how can I understand this?

Oh, you can't? Let me explain it to you.

This is Kerui's share price chart.

Since they account that

their new medicine, Gankejing, was made successfully,

their stock price has been going up. Almost doubled.

But at that point,

the person who was responsible for the new product, Meng Wei, died.

Yes, I know that. What's wrong about it?

What are you talking about?

If Meng Wei's death has anything to do with Kerui's stock,

it won't be just a criminal offense.

It might be a financial crime.

That's why I had Wu Jiaqi

get in to know the case.

Master, you know her.

She is irrational and reckless. I am afraid she will mess up.

Yes, she is a newbie.

Right? Sometimes she has a short temper

and doesn't think about the consequences.

But she has her own strengths.

She majored in Economics.

She knows better about the stock market than us.

You are an experienced officer in the Crime Offense area.

It's undeniable.

But you don't know

about financial crimes.

So she could

make up for that.

Working together, you two will be unbeatable.

You understand that, don't you?

All right. Let's all agree on that.

Get out. Get to know each other.

I shall leave now.

Come in.

Professor Hao.

I bought some desserts for you.

They say dessert can provide fuel for your brains.

The better your brains work, the better my sales performance will be.

- You don't have to do this. - Sit.

I am here to thank you on behalf of the elders that day.

The Kerui stock you recommended was going so well. They gained a lot lately.

They have been talking about buying me dinner lately.

That's good for you. When are you going to buy me dinner?

No problem! Any time as long as you are available.

Please sit.

They are happy that they got money coming in, right?

You should see what's going on out there.

That's good, but it's time for you to tell them to sell.

They wouldn't sell it now that it's still going up.

You don't think they would sell it, right?

That's human nature.

That's greed.

Do you remember

- the guy in a red shirt? - Mr.Wang?

He invested all his money including his wife's medical expense money.

He wanted to buy an apartment for his son.

I told him to sell and he didn't listen.

Not just him.

Everyone out there

thinks the same as him.

They want to keep gaining.

But they never think about what would happen if they failed.

Being satisfied leads to happiness.

It's a short phrase.

But not many people can do it.

- Professor Hao. - Sister Liu.

I need to talk to Xiaohui.

Come out.

Yu Xiaohui, how dare you?

Who authorized you to open 30 accounts?

Explain it.

Are you purchasing for yourself?

- No. - No?

So you opened for other people.

For whom?

You are breaking the rules. Do you understand it?

How much money did you take? Tell me.

You are not going to tell me? Who is it for?

All right, I will take this to Director Wang now.

You will be fired.

- Sister Liu. - Professor Hao.

She opened those for me.

For you?

Come here.

I am sorry I didn't tell you earlier.

Xiaohui, I will let this slide. It can't happen again.

All right, there are many customers waiting.

I have to entertain them. I shall go now.

That's it?

It's solved.

May I ask how you solved it?

Don't talk like that. I am not that old.

Sister Liu has been working in the industry for years.

She knows what to say and what not to say.

She is aware of what she will gain by not saying it.

All right. Go back to work.

Brother, how was it?

Go get ¥20,000 cash and give it to Sister Liu after work.

Be discrete.

Okay, I understand.

Back to work.

Let's do a briefing.

Lei and I went to Kerui.

We met Liang Xiaohu, the one who is taking over Meng Wei's position.

Nothing odd.

The body examination report came out.

The cause of death is confirmed to be carbon monoxide poisoning,

but it's possible that he was drugged before he died.

Lei, tell them what you found.

Based on what Yuan said,

I have sent out our people to investigate.

There is no evidence to prove there were strangers entering his place.

Also, his neighbors were at home all day.

They didn't hear anything unusual.

What about you, Little Liu?

The lock wasn't destroyed. No suspicious fingerprints were found.

Suicide?

Have you checked the handwriting?

What a well educated professional!

The handwriting of the death note is confirmed to be Meng Wei's.

But these two numbers of the date don't match his handwriting.

We don't have enough documents to compare.

So we cannot confirm that.

Is it possible that the date was altered?

Meng Wei had serious depression.

He did attempt to commit suicide several times.

It is possible that

the death note was written before

and was altered this time.

Ms. Meng mentioned that Meng Wei had written it.

Liu, any update from the technical team?

Nothing. He was a nerd.

He only went on those websites of professional knowledge.

He didn't even have a QQ account.

What about his email?

We found one, but there were only a few emails. Nothing suspicious.

Keep on. It's a tough case. We must find the evidence as soon as possible.

Also, keep protecting the scene.

Families are not allowed to get in.

Yes.

Hey, Brother Yuan.

Xiaohui, I was at a meeting so I didn't pick up.

What's wrong? You called several times.

I am just in a bad mood.

I almost got punished today.

Can you review it and sign off?

Wait for a second, Xiaohui.

Come back.

I made marks here. Check this.

I got it.

Xiaohui, I am sorry.

What did you say? Getting punished? What's going on?

It's all right. Go back to your work.

It's just some work stuff. It's being handled.

All right.

I am busy now. Let's talk later.

Okay,. Talk to you later, bye.

Brother, let's go to the canteen.

I am not going. Pack some for me.

You must eat.

It takes a few minutes.

Same dishes every day.

Every day.

Brother Yuan.

What's the stuffing today?

Thank you.

Where's the vinegar?

Get some vinegar. We can't have dumplings without vinegar.

Here.

Can't have dumplings without the vinegar, right?

It's just like solving cases.

I can help you when you are making no progress.

One plus one is greater than two.

You sound very confident.

Helping me? What can you do?

As an officer of financial crimes, have you done any related investigations?

Helping me?

Stop repeating what Master said. It's not going to work.

Brother Yuan is so impressive.

Eat your dumplings.

Director Liang, hello.

Hello.

I am from Beijiang Public Security Bureau. Where are you heading to?

I am attending a meeting.

Can I ask you a few questions?

Officer, your people have asked everything they needed.

I have told them everything I know.

What else do you need?

They are investigating Meng Wei's case. I am not.

I want to ask about the new product's development process.

How about this? You can talk to the Information Department.

I have read all your articles.

Really. They are really good.

Especially the one about Hepatitis and Inheritance.

I think it's really good. It was published in foreign journals.

Miss...

Officer, I didn't know you were so serious.

That was written a long time ago.

It seems a little bit immature now.

You are being humble.

Actually, I have a little question.

I have been reading the article that Meng Wei

wrote, about turning HBeAg into Hepatitis B.

It has a good social review. I want to know your opinion.

Turning HBeAg into Hepatitis B doesn't mean it's cured.

It doesn't mean it's not contagious

or you are free of liver cancer for good.

He didn't solve the basic problem.

Whoever solves it

will be the winner of the Nobel Prize.

In that case,

his project is not feasible.

I didn't say that.

I am sorry. I must go to my meeting.

Thank you.

You again.

Chief Wang.

I should call you Officer Wu now.

Why don't you go inside if you need to talk to my people?

Or take him to your bureau.

People will think we are in trouble

if you get filmed

by the reporters.

We are a listed company.

Will you be able to take responsibility

if you make our share price drop?

I want to remind you.

There's no perfect crime in the world.

There will be traces

if you have done it.

That's right. Based on facts.

You should know better than me

about facts and laws.

Chief Liang said

Meng Wei's project has no chance to succeed.

If it does, Meng Wei could get a Nobel Prize for it.

Can that prove that your previous claim that

Gankejing is close to success was not a lie?

Did I say that?

People were saying it. Some people believed it.

Some people

are slandering others in public.

Chief Wang!

I once heard that

those who commit crimes like to hide in the shadows.

I am too young to tell if it's true. What do you think?

What's wrong with her? She won't let go.

How come she became a cop?

- Hello? - Wang Bolin.

I heard that Meng Wei is dead.

Yes.

He just passed away. Our company is in great sorrow.

I am afraid it's not that simple.

What do you mean?

Let's not talk about it.

I called you to talk about something else.

I remember you said that

you can send Rui Rui overseas.

Does it still count?

I am not able to provide him with a good environment.

So I wish...

you can keep your promise.

Rest assured, Xiao Rong.

I will do what I promised.

Not to mention that Qian Cheng was my close friend.

Tell me.

Where do you want to go?

I will cover all the expenses.

I recommend America.

Ailin is there. Bai Jie is with her.

You can look after each other there.

Sound good?

Yes.

America, it is.

Also, the video you mentioned,

I want to see it if possible.

Don't worry.

I will let you see it.

All right.

Wait for my call.

Still here?

I am leaving in a minute.

Are you still worried about those accounts?

All right, I have time today to give you another lecture.

Answer me first. Why didn't you tell Sister Liu that you did it for me?

I wasn't sure how it would impact you.

Have you thought about how it would impact you?

I will own what I did.

It was my own intension.

I was supposed to take responsibility.

You are very brave, Xiaohui.

Thank you.

Professor Hao, can I ask you something?

Yes.

What did you do to make Sister Liu agree to drop it?

I gave her ¥20,000.

Xiao Liang must have given it to her by now.

I told you it's not that complicated.

A little treat and a little favor.

That's the unspoken rule in this business.

I could have given you ¥20,000, too, when you opened those accounts for me,

but I didn't.

I know you are different from others.

You have your own thoughts.

You have your own dreams.

Anything that can be measured by money

means nothing.

I can show you if you are still worried.

This is what those 30 accounts look like now.

You gained so much.

I know Kerui is going up,

but I didn't know you gained so much.

All the money in these accounts

is only the foundation of our dreams.

When the right time comes,

I will put them into the best places.

What you need to do next

is to watch and have no doubts.

Time is a good thing.

It will give you answers.

Class dismissed.

The camera is on now. This is newly brought from America.

You can't buy it in China.

How much is it?

You are being too nice.

Old Qian, say Hi.

Say Hi.

This is fun.

Hello, which one of you is ordering?

- Where to order? - The first floor.

I shall go.

Please go this way.

You said you got it.

Give it to me.

Beijiang Dahua Factory Stock Reorganisation Plan

That's right.

All right, everything is good now.

We can control Dahua now, right?

Yes.

I still feel guilty towards Teacher.

She is very sick now.

Let me tell you...

That's how the world operates.

Right? You must pay the cost for the greater good.

Also,

no one will know besides you and me.

No one else will know. What are you afraid of?

I still feel insecure.

All right, I will handle the rest.

Wait to get rich.

Cheer up.

Don't let your wife notice.

Wang Bolin, have you seen it?

Xiao Rong, you know this can't do anything to me.

Whether these things will work or not,

I think you know.

Jiaqi.

I went to Kerui and ran into Wang Bolin today.

- What did you find out? - Nothing, yet.

What about you?

Brother Yuan, Ms. Meng is here.

Ms. Meng.

Officer Xia, I am sorry.

I have been working all day. I came after work.

It's all right.

We brought you here to pick up Mr. Meng's stuff.

How could he abandon us?

I am sorry for your loss.

This way, please.

Please count it.

Ms. Meng, this is the list. Do you need to...

This computer

was a gift from me

three years ago for his birthday.

Did you get the wrong one?

How is that possible?

Ms. Meng, I saw it being put into the evidence bag.

This is not his computer. It's not.

Why not?

Meng Wei has been down.

So our kid made a smiley face for Daddy.

Meng Wei stuck it on here.

But it's not here.

Did he rip it off?

No way.

For two years,

no matter how upset he was,

he has never ripped it off.

Was it switched?

Officer Xia, are you saying that

my husband was murdered?

We can't confirm yet.

But if the computer was switched,

it means that there is important evidence on Meng Wei's computer.

Ms. Meng, is there any other computer at your place?

There's a PC in our kid's room.

It's an old one. Meng Wei didn't really use it.
