Episode 5

Hello, Xiaohui.

Hello, Brother Yuan, are you done with work yet?

Not yet, I've still got a bunch of stuff here. What's up?

I'm also finishing up work.

How come you're working so late?

I'm new here, so I have more things to learn and have to do more overtime.

I miss you.

It's so late.

Wait up for me. I'll go pick you up and send you home.

You're coming to pick me up? It won't be inconvenient for you?

How can it be inconvenient? Wait for me.

You must be tired.

Aren't your overtime hours a bit too long?

You just started at this company. You don't have to work so hard, right?

It's quite stressful working at this company.

Think about it. The client's money is so valuable.

I can't afford to make even the tiniest of mistakes.

There's an experienced senior who said,

"Either don't do it; otherwise, you should give it your best effort."

Right now, I feel like I'm messing up even the basics.

You are not only clever but also perceptive.

You just need more time. Take it slow.

Who's that experienced senior?

Mr. Hao Xiaoqiang.

Hao Xiaoqiang from the stock evaluation program you always watch?

You know him?

You watch him on TV every day. How can I not recognize him?

Doesn't he speak really well?

I truly think he is really amazing.

He takes his work very seriously every day,

and he puts in a lot of effort.

Even now he's still working.

- You must really look up to him, right? - Yup.

- You're interested in him? - Yup!

Fine.

Do you feel like you just ate an entire lemon? (T/N: feeling jealous)

Where are you taking us?

I'm taking you back to see your senior!

You actually took me seriously?

If I told you that I'm into Jay Chou, would you also get so upset?

I'm warning you now...

In the future, don't joke with me about romantic feelings.

You're the one who joked with me first!

It's like this. No matter if this happens now or in the future,

even when we're eighty years old, with all our teeth gone;

if one day, as we're walking down the street,

some old guy even takes one look at you,

I'll probably fight him.

Would you even be able to fight at that age?

I've got a cane!

I don't want to be seen in public with you using a cane!

Whatever. Anyway, I'm clinging onto you.

If not me, who else would you cling to?

Bro! Bro! Bro!

The 50 million yuan from Ma Jianshe has arrived.

There are 2 minutes until markets open. Let's prepare.

Let's go.

Bro, the markets just opened.

700082 at 11.2 yuan, buy 90,000 shares.

Okay.

700082 at 11.2 yuan, buy 90,000 shares.

Bought.

It's going up! It's going up!

Bro, the price is rising.

Should we wait a little more?

Don't wait. Buy 50,000 shares at 11.3 yuan.

What are you doing? Go!

Okay.

Buy 50,000 shares at 11.3 yuan.

Bought.

Bro, do we have to be this hasty?

How many more accounts do we have?

There are only 10 left.

How is there only 10? Didn't I tell you to open loads and loads!

I used the IDs from all my family members.

I'm worried that we will have cash flow problems at this rate.

You do not need to worry about the cash flow, okay?

Chairman Wang.

Teacher Hao is here.

- Okay. - Go ahead.

- Come in. - Sit here.

Mr. Wang, you're very relaxed.

It's because you're in charge,

so I don't need to worry.

How is the situation over there?

Well, currently...

I received funds of 50 million yuan from Ma Jianshe and it's all been invested.

But recent stock prices have differed from our predictions,

so I'm short on funds.

Ma Jianshe will not give us any more money.

He said if he gives us more, he will be in a precarious position.

There is no time for us to raise more funds from elsewhere.

I really need your help.

I remember you were initially very confident.

How have you run into trouble so quickly?

With stocks, you need the unexpected to bring you rewards.

Yes,

there's a bit of an issue

and now I need your help,

but I know

you also need to raise funds from elsewhere,

so I will make sure you don't lose out.

As per usual, I will return an additional 15% of whatever you give me.

Teacher Hao, I don't need that,

but you need to agree to a condition.

Okay, please say.

Previously, I agreed to give you 8% of the shares.

Now, I can only give you 6%.

That's tens of millions of yuan less...

Okay, deal.

I'm back.

Hubby,

- a guest has arrived. - Who? - Director Tang from Kerui Pharmaceutical.

He brought ginseng for Mom and Dad. I checked it.

It's worth over ¥10,000. What should we do?

Where is he?

Inside, playing with Chen Chen.

Some day, I will take you to see Africa. Okay?

Chen Chen.

- President - Dad!

This uncle gifted me a remote-controlled train set!

It's just a small gift.

Haven't I told you to not blindly accept gifts from other people?

Chen Chen is too adorable.

Your wife is beautiful and virtuous. You are very lucky.

Wanyi, can you look after Chen Chen for a bit?

I need to speak with Director Tang.

All right, you two take your time.

Bye-bye, Chen Chen!

Chen Chen, I will play with you. Okay?

What are you doing here?

I'm here to check in on your child, your wife,

and you on behalf of Chairman Wang.

There's nothing to see here.

Please don't come to my house anymore.

Are you ordering me to leave?

Fine. If you really want to stay for dinner,

I'll invite you out to a restaurant.

I don't have other reasons for visiting.

Last time you did a good job.

Chairman Wang asked me to come and thank you on his behalf.

You can ask us for any favor,

regardless of how big or small.

The most helpful thing you can do for me is to not show up at my door!

President Sun, you are too serious.

Last time, we had a good partnership,

so Chairman Wang thinks very highly of you.

Actually, I came today with tasks from Chairman Wang.

Kerui Pharmaceutical needs to obtain a loan using shares as collateral.

We just need sixty million yuan.

You want sixty million again?

Have you guys gone crazy?

For business-related matters,

it is better to discuss it at the bank.

Why can't we discuss it at your house?

At the bank, there are lots of people, many random characters.

It's more unsuitable to discuss these matters at the bank.

What more do you want from me? Haven't you harmed me enough?

That's an exaggeration. What do you mean "harmed"?

President Sun, you also hold responsibility here.

Forgive me for being direct, but I really regret loaning the money

to people like you.

You have two months of overdue payments on the previous 20 million yuan loan.

Kerui Pharmaceutical's credit rating is now reduced,

so I will not loan you any more money.

Your company is listed on the stock exchange. Your reputation is important.

Even now, you are very formal with business.

How come you still believe the old idiom,

"Return what you borrow, so the next time you can easily borrow again."

This is a basic principle in life.

Chairman Wang is the chairman of such a large

corporation. He should understand this.

Okay, okay. I can't win against you.

You have more ink in your stomach than anyone

else. (T/N: means more highly educated)

Just think about it. I won't disturb you any longer.

I'll take my leave.

Haiqing, we need to talk.

President,

you've picked such a strange location.

Tang Hong came looking for me again.

How did we manage to get mixed up with those guys in the first place?

What did he say? Is he still going on about that loan?

You give him an inch, he is taking a mile.

He wants another 60 million yuan.

That's not a small sum of money.

How did we manage

to get entangled with Kerui Pharmaceuticals?

My reputation will be destroyed by this.

President Sun, I think you are overthinking this.

I think Kerui Pharmaceuticals is a legitimate enterprise.

They're also a listed company. And look at the chairman.

Even though I haven't encountered Chairman Wang much, he seems very well mannered

and will listen to reason.

He's also a businessman. What do businessmen value? Their profit.

We don't have a conflict of interest with him.

We also haven't done anything illegal.

Look at all the other banks with their numerous bad debtors,

and we don't have any.

That's because you're overseeing it.

Otherwise, how could we avoid those disasters?

That's what I was talking about.

My previous senior advised me that

even though our bank didn't have many achievements,

we are very stable and haven't had blunders.

Right.

If it wasn't for you...

If not for you and your "friend," how would I have signed it off?

I am so regretful! I...

Why did I trust you so much!

A 20 million yuan loan! That was money from the national treasury.

Yes.

About this matter,

I do bear undeniable responsibility.

But we don't have foresight.

What do you plan to do?

I'm going to clear this up.

Yep, I'm going to clarify it.

At the worst, I'll be admitting to misconduct.

That year, the paperwork wasn't complete for the loan and I authorized it.

I will shoulder the responsibility,

and receive whatever disciplinary action is required.

No, you can't.

If there is any disciplinary action,

it should be on me, not you.

I think with this issue,

we can't let the old bank president know.

Your dad hired me, and I know his temper.

He will see what we have done as unlawful.

If he finds out now, he won't forgive you.

I feel ashamed towards him.

But right now,

I have a sense of foreboding.

I think Wang Bolin is not a simple character.

Look at Wanmahui Investment's accounts for example.

He discussed it with me with such ease,

saying that he would ease any pressure on me, and refer big clients to us.

But I have many years of banking experience.

I have examined the turnover in Wanmahui Investment accounts and it's suspicious.

There will be problems sooner or later.

I need to clear this up.

Otherwise, this mishap will become more disastrous.

President...

Get out!

Drive safely.

Chairman Wang, the 20 million yuan from Ma Shicai

has been redistributed and is currently being

transferred back in separate transactions.

Thanks for your hard work.

You don't have to transfer all of it over. Ten percent of the money is yours to keep.

What are you saying, Chairman Wang?

You've earned it.

We are both in the same boat.

Rest assured. I won't let you suffer any hardship,

and I believe that you won't let me down.

- Master. - Yes?

I checked the dates. After Ma Shiyuan's death,

his cellphone was still being used by someone else.

Furthermore, there's been constant contact

using this number with a woman named Wei Lin.

Have you found where this woman lives yet?

Yes, she lives on Xiwai Street.

Let's go.

Wei Lin?

It's your landlord, Old Liu.

What time does your tenant typically return home?

It's hard to say. If she has the night shift, she would return at daybreak.

If it's the day shift, then she'd return around 6:00 or 7:00 p.m.

What's her job?

She's a part-timer at the city zoo.

She's quite good-natured.

These past few days, has she brought any strangers back here?

I bumped into someone once.

That person was male, not very tall, wearing a hat.

Is it this person?

I'm not certain.

It was already dark that day.

His hat was pulled down low, so I couldn't get a good glimpse of his face.

Thank you. We'd like to take a bit more time here; take a look around.

All right, I understand. I'm going to head down

first. If you need anything else, just let me know.

Sure.

Master, Ma Shicai must be with Wei Lin.

Let's do this. You stay here and keep watch.

I'll take some men to search the zoo.

Master, you should keep watch here. I'll go over to the zoo with Lei.

Little Liu, stay here with Captain Yang.

Lei, with me.

Director Tang!

How many times do I have to tell you,

you're an employee at a big company, so be more steady in your actions. What happened?

Ma Shicai has been found.

We're the police.

Wei Lin works here, right?

Wei Lin does work here.

Can you take us to her?

Wei Lin just went out to pick up some food. She should

be back soon. How about you two wait for her inside?

No need. We'll wait here.

Brother Yuan.

Are you Wei Lin?

Yes, it's me.

Do you know Ma Shicai?

Who are you?

Police.

I don't know him. We haven't talked in a long time.

Who did you buy the food for then?

It's for me.

Do you eat so much food all by yourself?

I'm pregnant, so I eat a lot.

Wei Lin, you need to think clearly.

Harboring a suspect is also a crime.

Even if you don't care about yourself, you should still care for your unborn child.

He is at the lion and tiger mountain.

Take us there.

A piece for you.

Fight for it!

If you don't fight, you won't eat.

They're so much calmer after eating something.

You're the King of animals.

You're being caged here, like playthings.

And yet I am mocking you,

even though I am the same.

Old Ma!

Old Ma! Old Ma!

Old Ma!

Don't fire. Quickly, find the zoo supervisor.

Okay!

Ma Shicai has been fed to the tigers.

It was clean, no traces.

Master.

Yes.

You've been up all night. Get something to eat. I'll keep an eye out here.

This is too much of a coincidence. It can't be an accident.

How would he have just randomly fallen?

Let's wait for the evaluation to be released.

I think someone wanted to ensure Ma Shicai did not talk by killing him.

Hello? Who is this?

Hello, is this Police Officer Xia?

I am Sun Ming. Is it convenient to talk?

What is it?

I... I want to make a report.

I want to report Wang Bolin and Kerui Pharmaceuticals.

President Sun, where are you?

I am at home.

Okay, I will send some team members over.

Don't open your door for anyone in the meantime.

When my team has arrived, I will call you.

- Okay, I will wait at home. - Okay.

Ask Lei to go there.

Now, Sun Ming has named Wang Bolin. Since Ma Shicai just died,

I think we must be on our guard.

I want to bring Wang Bolin over first.

Okay, go ahead.

- Lei. - Brother Yuan.

Take this. Eat it while we walk.

Hubby, we are leaving.

I just warmed the milk, let Chen Chen have some.

Chen Chen overslept! Say bye to Dad.

- Bye, Dad. - Okay, I'm off. - But...

- Haiqing. - President, something big has happened.

What's going on. Why are you so agitated so early in the morning?

Do you remember Ma Shicai?

The chairman at Wanmahui Investments?

Yeah, I know him. What happened?

Has he... been found?

No. He's dead.

Dead?

I heard he fell into the lion and tiger mountain at the zoo

and was eaten by tigers.

Hello? Hello?

- Wanyi, is it you? - Hello?

I'm Beijiang PSB Criminal Investigation Division's Zhang Xiaolei.

Could you please open the door?

Okay, coming.

This is my ID.

Are you President Sun?

Yes, I am.

Director Xia.

Let's go.

President Sun, can you tell us in detail about what you know?

It's like this. Last time,

you asked me to pay attention to Wanmahui Investment's accounts.

I found the destination for the redistributed cash.

President Sun, didn't you say you wanted to report Wang Bolin?

Police Officer Xia, I'm not sure what you mean.

I just discovered the destination

of a transaction worth 100,000 yuan.

I remember last time you specifically asked me

to update you straight away if I had information

about this.

But, President Sun, this is not what you said on the phone.

On the phone, you said you wanted to report Wang Bolin.

Did you forget?

President Sun, do you have some concerns?

No, no.

- Director Yang? - Yes?

Did Ma Shicai really die?

This has nothing to do with you or with what you wanted to report.

Just tell us what you know.

Okay.

Police Officer Xia, please don't make this difficult for me.

I really don't know anything.

I'm just a president of a small bank branch.

Every piece of business conducted in the bank is lawful.

I can't make up things that don't exist, right?

I just wanted to discuss Wanmahui's cashflow destinations today.

Are you playing with us?

You called us. Did you forget?

Yes, Director Yang asked you to give me your contact details.

I just called the number you gave me.

But I didn't say I was going to report someone.

I am an honest person who abides by my duties. Who would I report?

Sun Ming, let me tell you something.

Wang Bolin is next door.

Today, we brought him to the bureau to investigate him.

If this has anything to do with you, I suggest you speak up.

There are consequences if you know something and do not report it.

- You can leave. - Okay, Director Yang.

Director Yang, who did you want me to see?

Have some tea first.

This is a misunderstanding. It's fine now.

Misunderstanding?

You brought me to the bureau to drink tea?

Police officers and lawful citizens don't always meet up.

Today, you can drink tea here.

That's pretty good. We don't know what tomorrow will bring.

Director Yang, I was in the middle of lunch when you dragged me here.

And all you're going to do is offer me is tea?

Of course not. I've asked someone to bring you a meal.

They'll be here shortly.

- Director Yang. - Yes?

Here it is! Come in.

Just put it here.

I never thought I would be enjoying a meal here in the bureau.

- Try our catering. - Sure.

- Master. - Yes?

Please enjoy the food.

- How is it? - Ma Shicai was mauled to death by a tiger.

Currently, there is no further evidence.

Our luck is so poor today.

Hey, police officer, don't just hang outside!

Do you want to come and eat some?

Chairman Wang, please eat,

but I want to remind you that

if you have committed a crime,

I will invite you back, regardless of where you are.

At that time, I hope you will still retain your appetite.

Is this all you usually eat at the bureau?

It's really salty.

No wonder you have energy to waste.

Do all you police officers think you can detain anyone as you please?

I will remember what you have said.

Arrest me after you have found evidence.

Isn't that the right way?

I'm leaving.

Chairman Wang, is it?

I am Mr. Zhou, the director of the Beijiang PSB.

Oh, Director Zhou.

There's truly been a misunderstanding today.

I'm glad you have cleared it up.

However, why don't you police officers

investigate properly before bringing me over?

Do you know how much tax Kerui Pharmaceuticals

pays to the government annually?

It pays the salaries for many civil servants in Beijiang.

If there are any more incidents that impact my

personal or Kerui Pharmaceutical's reputation,

who will take responsibility?

You may leave.

Xia Yuan, please show Chairman Wang out.

No need.

I dare not accept that.

Goodbye.

Why is he here?

Why is Wang Bolin here?

Beijiang Development Bank's Sun Ming called to report,

and said that Wang Bolin and Ma Shicai were in communication with one another.

Where's the evidence?

We have yet to receive any.

So you do know that we don't have any?

Do you know that Kerui Pharmaceutical Company

is considered a major company here in Beijiang?

Now that its stock price has fallen,

the entire company is half dead.

If today the news that we issued a subpoena to Wang Bolin

was released to the public,

the stock price of their company would continue to fall. Then what would happen?

It will impact stockholders.

It will result in panic among the stockholders.

No one knew that once Sun Ming came into the station, he would deny everything.

Who made the decision on this?

It was me, it was me. I will take full responsibility.

Old Comrade Yang,

you've been a criminal investigator for more than twenty years now.

Is this your first day on a case?

Director Zhou, it was me.

It was me. I wasn't considerate enough in making this decision

and acted too rashly.

So this master-apprentice bond really is strong, huh?

Fighting for it.

As if this was credit over something successful.

Look at Wang Bolin! The way he triumphantly flaunts around the Public Security Bureau.

Even if you don't find it embarrassing, I do.

If news of this spreads, the city government will investigate it, for sure.

How am I supposed to explain this?

How about this? I will write a five thousand

word self-examination piece right away

and put it on your desk tomorrow.

I'll take full responsibility for everything.

This...

Let's go. Let's go.

- Is everything sorted? - Yes

What should we do about Sun Ming?

Currently, we won't be able to control him.

What if he tries this again?

Sun Ming isn't Ma Shicai.

He is a banker.

He is very familiar with this business,

and is also very talented.

We need him.

What do you think we should do?

Go and find out

if there is anything he and his family need help with.

This is an important friendship to develop.

Okay, come on.

Let's have another glass.

I don't feel like drinking. The taste is off.

That's because you're feeling off.

You still need to eat and drink. Life will go on.

Come on!

I'll drink with you.

I don't feel wronged.

I feel I've embarrassed you

and caused you to be chastised by the bureau director.

Tomorrow, first thing, I'll go and explain to

Director Zhou that this has nothing to do with you.

I'm your teacher.

How does it not involve me?

How come only you were chastised?

I should be, too.

Okay, leave it. We don't need to queue up to be reprimanded.

You've given up so easily?

Where is all your energy?

The energy is still here, but I have the energy and nowhere to expend it.

Do you still remember when you first entered the

division, and I brought you to go capture drug dealers?

The drug dealers were so desperate

that they kidnapped a few kids in a residential building.

I had just positioned my sniper,

but your only thought was on charging into the building.

Master, stop reminding me of that.

How can I not remember it?

All these years, you've always been teaching me to not act impulsively.

But I still messed it all up today.

Yuan, I don't blame you at all.

That time, you were impulsive because you were thinking about the safety of the kids.

This time you were afraid that Wang Bolin would run away, so you acted first.

I don't think you did anything wrong.

- Really? - Yes.

Look.

The most important thing for a criminal

investigator is their senses and inspiration.

These two things, you must make sure you never lose.

Even though you didn't capture them today, they still have made some slipups.

It will happen soon.

What?

It's just... Master, ever since I met you,

I have never seen you talk so much.

I won't say anymore. It is all in the toast.

No, no, keep talking. I enjoy listening.

After I listen to you talk, I feel better.

Stop humoring me. Finish your drink, then go home and get some sleep.

There are so many things waiting for you to get done tomorrow.

Remember, never let anything push you down.

Always stand up straight and tall.

I will listen to what you say, Master.

Okay, the onboarding process is complete.

You can come report here for work tomorrow.

Our adjustment period is three months, and if you

have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

If there's anything I can help you with, I'll do the best I can.

Thank you so much, Sister Ren.

It is my pleasure. Feel free to come to me at any time.

Sure, sure.

- Work hard! - I will work hard, for sure!

- Supervisor Ren! - I have to go now, see you later.

Director, you are looking for me?

Let's go.

This is the one that Secretary Li brought in?

Yes, her name is Yang Jianqiu. She just reported for work today.

Originally, with her abilities,

she would not be able to receive an offer.

However, Secretary Li said her older brother

is the Public Security Bureau's Director Yang.

She's considered the mayor's relative, so I didn't dare to not take her.

Okay, which department is she in?

She'll be working at the front desk. She couldn't do anything else, anyway.

- Okay, you can go back to work now. - Okay.

Sales Department Director's Office

Hello?

Chairman Wang, Yang Jianqun's younger sister is working in my office now.

Her name is Yang Jianqiu.

Who put her into your office? Do you know?

The Mayor's Secretary Li arranged it.

It should be the doing of the mayor.

What am I supposed to do with such a person?

Yang Jianqun is one of the 10 Outstanding Youth of the City of Beijiang.

He's also the Vice-Mayor's son-in-law.

You know all of this, right?

I know.

Then spend some time and effort to train and educate her.

As far as I know, Yang Jianqun only has this one younger sister.

He wouldn't try and investigate his own younger sister, right?

Do you understand what I am saying?

Understood. Don't worry.
