but this is our history new holland has

survived winter storms

floods droughts all because our people

learned a long time ago

so how did you get into it

uh i had a neighbor when i was growing

up

she was like family to me and she

trained

in paris in the 70s and taught me

everything she knew about cooking

she was the one who inspired me to go to

culinary school

so when i got out we decided to open up

winnie's together

winnie's it's a combination of our names

winona and annie i like that

yeah man those first few years were

they were so hard

and then just as everything was starting

to take off

she passed away

it was so unexpected

i'm sorry yeah

after that i felt like i had to work

hard enough for both of us

i understand wanting to keep your wife's

memory alive

it can get pretty lonely you have

yeah i don't know what i'd do without

her she's

she's all i've got but sometimes it

feels like

like something's missing nor

someone i know what you mean

i feel like i just work and

work some more and then work some more

and i just feels like i don't have time

for anything else

and it grew year by year and that is how

flower fest was born

that is quite a story but how did you

become involved a coincidence really

my car broke down and they were already

down a chef and in dire straits

you see if the food doesn't sell then

they can't afford to pay for the

festival the following year

and a lot of these local businesses they

depend on the inflow of tourists just to

survive

how do you say no to that exactly i was

happy to help

and the amazing thing about a place like

new holland is that people show up in

ways you wouldn't expect

i mean without joe we wouldn't have the

venison bourguignon

and without dora i might not have ever

stuck around

and without adam well without adam i

don't know if any of this would have

come together

but you've had an impact too well

i'm known for my resourcefulness you

just need to think outside the box to

make something like this happen

but this was really a community effort

i mean it's so great to work with such

amazing people

is a sleepy pennsylvania community

some call it a ghost town its one

redeeming feature

is its annual flora festival drawing

people from all over the county

until one benevolent chef

stepped in to save the day they were
