For the concern about Chu Chu,

Chu He let go of Xu Rugui without permission.

The Chu family are all kind.

But Chu Chu has a complicated background.

It’s challenging for them to defend her.

Tan Gui brought about the old problem of the previous dynasty

and Senior Jing.

The situation is getting more complicated.

Deputy Magistrate Tan.

Since you work for Senior Jing,

you should know why I came to the Southwest this time.

Senior Jing wants you to kill Chu Chu

to avenge my father.

But if my father wants you to let her go,

are you willing to put off killing Chu Chu

and tell Senior Jing about the situation first?

You mean Prince Consort is still...?

Since I came to Guanling County,

I’ve had a confusion.

Chu Chu’s family background is doubtful.

My father stayed with her for years.

How could he not figure it out?

But he treated Chu Chu as his own daughter.

So, I guess

there’s something fishy.

You mean the Witch Doctor

who contacted the Chu Family...?

But he’s been missing, since five years ago.

I guess

he’s still here.

I’ll go look for my father in a couple of days.

After I find him,

the truth will be known.

Now that you want to avenge him,

shouldn’t you ask him if he wants it?

Your Highness,

are you serious?

How about this?

You can go with us.

Yes,

Your Highness.

I’m sorry, Jing Yi.

I was too impulsive.

It was my fault.

I should have told you earlier.

The Imperial Coroner

Episode 20

Are you alright?

Yes.

Xiao Jinli was so rude.

He shouldn’t have hit you so hard.

Let me check on you.

We’re on the street.

So what?

No one else is around.

Let me check on you.

I’m alright.

Let me check.

I’m really alright.

I’m glad you’re alright.

If Xiao Jinli dares to hurt you again,

I’ll skin him!

Thank you.

We’re friends.

You’re welcome.

Brother!

Chu Chu, why did you come?

Brother, what happened?

I’m alright.

I was... I was just flogged.

Flogged?

Why were you flogged?

Let me check on you. Which part?

Don’t. Don’t check on me.

Why can’t I?

I’m a man,

but you’re a girl.

Why do you think?

My job is to inspect wounded or dead bodies.

I checked on a lot of men.

Besides,

you also checked on a lot of women.

Why can’t I check on you?

Let me have a look.

Don’t. Don’t.

My good sister, don’t worry.

I’m alright.

Don’t check on me.

Brother,

tell me about it.

What mistake did you make?

Why were you flogged?

Grandfather and Father worked for years,

but they never got flogged.

What a big mistake you made

that Magistrate Zheng flogged you?

No wonder you don’t dare to go home.

It wasn’t Magistrate Zheng.

Then... His Highness punished you?

No, no.

I did something terrible

and I thought it was a huge mistake.

Then I asked to be flogged

so that I could feel better

and then learn a lesson.

I’m telling you.

No matter what happens to you

and when it happens,

you must tell me.

Don’t keep it bottled up in your heart.

When you were little,

you told us everything.

But since you came back from Chang’an,

you’ve kept everything in your mind,

instead of telling me.

You only tell that Commandery Prince.

Brother.

I know!

I’m not as good as him.

He’s handsome and virtuous.

Looks like he knows everything

and he can handle any problem.

He’s a powerful official.

If I were a girl,

I would like him, too.

But Chu Chu, I promise you.

I will help you

with whatever I can!

If he bullies you,

I’ll punish him for you…

even at the risk of my life!

Brother, you’re always my good brother.

I’m always your brother.

Rest assured.

You heard Chu He say

he wanted to marry Chu Chu?

How dared I talk nonsense about it?

At least he knows

how to be nice to her.

What?

Nothing.

What? Having a stomach ache again?

Did you not have meal regularly?

I told you not to do this!

It doesn’t matter.

It matters! Take it.

Brother, what are you doing?

Brother!

Brother!

Lie down.

Brother, I’ll be alright soon.

You won’t.

You don’t eat or sleep.

Look how pale your face is!

Tell me. What’s on your mind?

Since you were little,

you’ve kept everything bottled up.

You don’t tell us until you figure it out.

But there’re countless things in the world.

Can you figure out all of them alone?

I don’t mean to keep it from you.

But my mind is still in a mess.

I don’t know how to explain to you.

Then tell me the mess.

It doesn’t matter if it’s right or wrong.

You can even complain to me.

Better than holding it to yourself.

Jinyu, remember.

No matter what happens,

you have me.

Brother, you never owe me.

You’re not having a fever.

What nonsense are you talking about?

I know

you’ve been feeling guilty

for many years,

only because I saved you from water

when we were little.

So, you always defend me, make concessions to me

and aggrieve yourself.

You even let me claim father’s title

and be the Commandery Prince.

But,

we’re brothers.

We should help each other.

If it were me who fell into the water,

you would have saved me, too,

right?

Jinyu, it’s my first time

to see you think stupidly.

You saved me from water when you couldn’t swim.

Now you care for me and trust me,

because I’m your elder brother

and your family, right?

Then why do I protect you, make concessions to you

and care for you?

Also because I’m your elder brother.

It’s nothing about guilt.

But Brother...

Jinyu, I let you be the Commandery Prince,

because it suits you more.

I always love martial arts.

You know that.

We’re General Leng’s relatives.

If I were the Commandery Prince,

would His Majesty allow me

to join the army or become a general?

You’re different.

You take charge of

Three Judicial Offices at such a young age.

When you’re the Commandery Prince,

other officials will be fearful.

And you’ll be safer.

We shouldn’t waste the title of nobility

Father left us, should we?

It’s generous of you, Brother. I was narrow-minded.

That’s right, then.

Be gentle, Brother.

You needn’t have been so hard.

Well, you’ve grown up

and you don’t even let me hug you.

All right, I’ll save my strength

to punch Xu Rugui.

Xu Rugui has confessed that

he worked for Qin Luan.

His families were kept in the capital as hostages.

He failed his mission and escaped.

Considering Qin Luan’s temper,

he’ll kill Xu Rugui’s families.

I asked Wu Jiang to keep a close eye in the capital.

If someone tries to kill them,

Wu Jiang will save them secretly.

Can Wu Jiang do that?

One can make great progress in a short period of time.

You haven’t seen Wu Jiang for quite a lot of periods.

Three Judicial Offices Zhou Han took four men out,

heading for Pingkang Residence.

Just like what His Highness predicted.

Guys, go catch them with me!

Yes!

Two Merits Hall

Romance Brothel

General Zhou, it’s been a long time.

Have you been weak?

-I’ve been too busy. Shut up. -Welcome next time.

General Zhou,

you haven’t come for days.

I’ve been busy.

I was just off duty

and I’m coming to relax with my men.

You had a long day, generals.

Come in, please.

Guard at the door. Go.

-Rest assured. -Come in, please.

-Be quick. -This way.

-Don’t worry. Everything’s alright. -I was too busy. Or I’d come earlier.

Are Xu Rugui’s families all here?

Yes.

Don’t worry, General Zhou.

His wife, a concubine, two sons and a daughter

are locked up.

All are here.

Find a chance to feed them this.

It’s...?

Having not worked for days,

you can’t even recognize it?

I can. I can.

General Zhou, may I ask for a favor?

Xu Rugui’s concubine looks quite pretty.

It’s a pity if she dies like that.

May I...?

Come on.

Are you out of your mind?

Are you addicted to being a procuress?

Feed it to her or to yourself!

Shall I make you a night-soil woman next time?

Don’t. Don’t!

Don’t get angry, General Zhou.

I didn’t mean it.

Don’t worry.

I’ll handle them efficiently.

Do I need to teach you how to handle the corpses?

No. No.

I would claim girls and waiters of our brothel

died of disease

and take them to unmarked common graves.

Don’t worry.

Nothing will go wrong.

That’s more like it.

By the way, is Chunxiang in?

Yes.

When you didn’t come,

she was missing you.

Get her to me.

Please wait.

I’ll ask girls to serve you.

Go. Be quick!

My girls are waiting for me.

Come and get me, sir.

General Wu, shall we take action now?

Eunuch Qin, taste this.

It’s a new dish the Imperial Cook invented,

Luck & Joy Soup.

It’s made of ingredients

just offered from Yangzhou.

His Majesty hasn’t tasted it yet.

Let me have a try.

Master.

It doesn’t matter. He’s one of us.

Zhou Han sent a message that

Xu Rugui’s families were all killed.

He finally fulfilled a mission.

You haven’t had dinner yet?

Come on. Have it with us.

Jinbao, get him a bowl of Joy & Luck Soup.

All right, Eunuch Qin.

Eunuch Qin, it’s not Joy & Luck Soup.

It’s Luck & Joy Soup.

All right. Luck and joy.

Thank you, Master.

Jinbao,

I have something to ask you.

What did His Majesty say about the marriage

between Xiao Jinli and Leng Yue?

His Majesty complained today.

Then he mentioned that

Princess Xiping wanted

to divine the birthdays of Xiao Jinli and Leng Yue,

but she didn’t reply yet.

She’s obviously stalling for time.

But His Majesty didn’t say much,

because he thought I was around.

His Majesty cares so much about their marriage.

I’m afraid

he’ll use it to deal with Leng Peishan.

Leng Peishan must have done something

in the Southwest.

Capital Liaison Representative of Qianzhou.

Director of the Ministry of Revenue.

Minister of War.

Who’s behind it?

Mingde.

Yes.

Shen Yu, the new Capital Liaison Representative.

Where does he come from?

Shen...

Qianzhou.

He’s from Wuhou County, Qianzhou.

It’s where Duke Chang used to live.

Master, why do you ask?

Jinbao,

His Majesty needs you.

I understand.

Enjoy your meal, Eunuch Qin. I’ll leave you alone.

What’s wrong, Master?

I’m telling you.

Something big may happen in the Southwest.

Keep a close eye on Antique Store.

Now that a spy is put in the court,

I’ll find out

who’s behind him.

Speaking of it,

Miss Chu is so poor.

She nearly died before she was born.

She hasn’t even seen her father.

So far,

she hasn’t even eaten or drunk anything

from the Yun Family.

In the end,

she’s involved in her father’s case.

You’re quite different to Chu Chu.

She annoyed me many times,

but you’ve never complained about her.

If someone else annoyed me,

you would have kept punching him

and never stopped.

I’m not blind.

I see clearly

who annoys you deliberately and who’s nice to you.

And I see clearly

if you’re really angry

or only complaining.

Apart from anything else,

Miss Chu has been really nice

to you.

Speaking of that,

I don’t even do as well as her.

If I were you,

I wouldn’t want to arrest her, either.

I can’t execute Chu Chu now.

There’s another reason,

besides what I told Tan Gui.

What is it?

Before I left the capital,

Mother urged me to look out for eunuchs.

She said Father

would also remind me that.

At first, I thought Mother worried

I might be involved in the conflict between ministers and eunuchs.

But I found a eunuch’s corpse

in Father’s house.

Xu Rugui confessed that he worked for Qin Luan.

Mother must have reminded me for a reason.

And Father’s chess game.

I haven’t figured it out,

but I feel that

there’s something secret

about what Father suffered in the Southwest,

besides the official records.

So, even if Chu Chu is really the daughter of a rebel,

I can’t execute her casually.

Brother,

please don’t tell Chu Chu what happened tonight.

She was quite scared

by what Xu Rugui did.

If she knows someone wants to kill her,

she’ll be freaked out.

You can’t execute her

or you don’t want to?

I believe you won’t act according to sentiment.

I just don’t want anyone to bully you.

I’m the first-rank Commandery Prince,

taking charge of Three Judicial Offices.

And I’m your younger brother.

Since I was little,

whoever wanted to bully me was punched by you.

Who dares to bully me?

You’re bullying yourself.

I hear they’re families

of the former manager of Rugui House.

Ask no questions. Just go.

Go.

Be quick.

Three Judicial Offices

How long has it been since you fed them the antidote?

General Wu,

they’re about to wake up.

You’re in Three Judicial Offices.

General Xiao, may I ask you something?

About Tan Gui?

I told Jinyu already. Don’t worry.

Not about him.

I want to ask something

about His Highness.

He was in a fit of anger yesterday.

He wouldn’t kick you out of Three Judicial Offices.

When you see him,

say something sweet.

He’ll be nice to you

as usual.

No, General Xiao.

I don’t mean this.

Then what do you want to ask?

I want to ask…

If someone who works for His Highness

committed a crime,

will His Highness be in trouble?

Of course!

Well, not of course.

It’s quite complicated.

I’m not sure.

Go ask Jinyu.

If His Highness sees someone

who has a blood feud

with him,

will he be angry and sad?

He will,

when he sees a normal foe.

But this is also very complicated.

I can’t explain clearly.

You’d better ask him.

I understand.

Thank you, General Xiao.

when he coaxes people.
