and I lead the team.

Ashley is my sister,
she's also the designer.

Ryan's my brother-in-law.

any job we throw at 'em.

nice calm day to go canoeing.

[Ashley] Chase,
Why do you want to meet us

out here on the windiest day
of the year?

[Chase] I'm meeting Ashley
and Ryan today in Farr's Cove.

We're going to canoe
up to the camp.

I didn't realize it's going
to be so windy.

We can pick our camps,
but we can't pick the weather.

[Ashley] Where you taking us?

[Chase] Going to the Costin camp

to meet Patty and Tim
and their kids,

Tim and Pat.

They have a camp

built in 1897
that needs our help.

1897 would be one of the
oldest camps we worked on.

This area has a lot
of old-old history.

People would come up
to take the trains out

from Boston and New York

and then take trolleys out
to these lakes.

You're going to tip us.

[Ryan] No, I'm not.

- You paddle forward.
- [Ashley] Maybe I should be the driver.

You're fighting me.

[Ashley] If you tell me
what to do,

I'm gonna...
I'm going to splash you.

[Ryan] You know what they say
about testing a marriage in the canoe.

- [Chase] Don't do it?
- [Ryan laughs]

Oh, we're flying now.
We're in unison.

We're jiving, honey.

This is it right here.

Yeah, head to the dock.

[Ashley] Get me off
of this boat.

We'd help you guys tie off,

but he's sleeping and...

You guys look like you got it.

[Tim] Patty and I have been
coming up to Cobbossee

since I started to date her
back in 1980.

We bought this in 2001.

It was a wide open screen porch.

It had a decrepit old wood stove

that we ripped out first
weekend that we bought it.

And it was little cramped with
only, uh, a bedroom and a loft.

[Ryan] She gotta
get her sea legs back.

Such a good day for it.

- How are you doing, guys?
- Hi, guys. Nice to meet you.

- I'm Ryan.
- Nice to meet you, guys.

So tell us about the camp.

We know it's an older one.

[Tim] Built in the 1897.

It's ready for some updating.

[Chase] The deck is fairly new.

[Tim] Yeah, we replaced that,
uh, this past spring.

[Chase] So you live
in Massachusetts?

- We live in Newburyport.
- Okay.

- Originally from Swampscott.
- Okay.

Boys have moved up
to New Hampshire.

What are you looking
to get done to the camp?

As you can see,
our family is growing.

We'd like to add a couple
of bedrooms if possible.

Right now, we only have
one entrance to the camp.

We blocked off
one of the other entrances

to pick up a bedroom,

so we'd love a second means
of egress

and maybe a way in
off the driveway.

[Chase] And you have access
to the loft area?

- [Tim] Yes.
- [Patty] Yeah.

- [Tim] Um...
- Stairs are this big.

Dog can get up but the dog
can't get down.

[laughing]

[Chase] What else
are you looking to get done?

Button up and bug free.

Is there anything
you like about it inside

that you are looking to save
our keep?

[Patty] There's an original
glider on the porch,

which, you know, we
would like to put that back in.

I like the campy feel.

The mooses and the bears

- and you know...
- Yeah, we love that campy, pine look

that these Main Cabin Masters
have done on numerous places.

We just kind of fell
in love with that look,

and we'll like to see 'em
duplicate that here if possible.

[Chase] Update the camp.

Make it more comfortable for the
whole family to stay in this place.

Some jacking and leveling,
an addition of some sort.

- Keep the critters out, keep the bugs out.
- [Patty] Yes.

What do you have
to put into the camp?

[Tim] We were thinking $75,000.

[Chase] Okay. When do you
want the camp back?

[Tim] We don't really have
a timeline.

We'll leave that
up to you folks.

Realistically, there's...
It's uh, you know,

it's a small camp style but
there's quite a bit to be done.

I think 12 weeks
is probably a safe time,

but by then it'll be...
Camp season will be over,

so it will be ready
for you for next year.

We just need a set of keys.

[Tim] We could accommodate
you. There you go.

[Chase] From the back
of the camp, it's gonna look

like a whole new place.

With a large
second floor, new windows,

new siding to the new roof.

From the lakeside or waterside,

the camp won't change that much,

but with a new paint, slide-in
windows, it will look like a new camp.

It will be buttoned up

and bug free,
just as Patty hoped.

Main camp.

- They love their porch.
- [Ashley] It's a cute porch.

Look at this.
I like this glider.

- That's cool.
- That's old, huh?

Yeah.

I feel so tall in here,
I like it.

It's just old, dated.
It's weird.

This is the original camp.

It's got that loft room
up above.

Kitchen over there.

This used to be part
of the screen porch, I guess.

[Ashley] They got a lot
of furnishing that I'm going

to be able to work with,
though, that's cool.

I think we're going to find some
funky stuff behind these walls.

[Ashley] When we canoed up,

it looks a lot bigger
than it does when we went in.

It's really deceiving.

Look at this though.
This is awesome.

The wind coming in off
the lake. This is nice.

[Chase] On the inside, we're
going to redesign the floor space

to make better flow
throughout the main floor.

We'll take it from two bedrooms

and a lot of three bedrooms
and a loft.

We'll leave the screen
and porch intact

but we will update
the windows and panes.

So we got
a little bit of concern

and a lot of confidence.

That's reversed.

What's going on here?

Do they need to come back
and clean it out?

- Before we do anything?
- Yeah.

We'll be a couple weeks.

Yeah, and then we can call
the guys.

Yeah, we can figure out with the
town what addition we can do and...

[Ashley] I don't know if I
want to get back on the canoe.

[Ryan] You want to double up

with the wind.

Today we are at the
Costin camp on Farr's Cove.

It's a really small camp,

so we didn't want
to be stepping on each other.

So it's just
the main five of us today,

just kind of ripping
to the inside.

See what we're working with...

We kind of just want to know
what's going on inside.

- [hitting]

[Jedi] Squirrel.

- [Chase] Squirrel?
- [Ashley] Squirrel?

Stored some nuts over the years.

Stored everywhere.

This wasn't a winter house,
it was their storehouse.

I picked this room because it
looks like it's been remodeled

in the last 25 years so
hopefully what's behind this wall

isn't as bad as what's in there.

Oh, sounds like it's raining.

They has left some tape
on a few things in there

that they want to keep
that are important to them.

[Chase] Patty and Tim
cleared the place out.

They left a few notes
about stuff they want to save.

Ashley found a log book
in the kitchen cabinets.

[Jedi] 1897 that's pretty
wild, someone wrote that.

I don't really want to go
through it too much, but maybe

I should have it rebound,
do you guys know anybody

that does that?

Somebody that reads books.

[Ashley] Oh, my gosh.

All right. Well, I'm going
to check out upstairs.

[Chase] Okay.

So I went upstairs to kind
of check out the furniture.

There's two bureaus
and that big trunk.

Once they get opened up,
we'll be able to take it out

and save it,
use it down the line

but right now,
it just has to stay there.

- [whirring]

Jedi! Why are you doing
this stuff to me?

So I went upstairs to kind
of check out the furniture.

Jedi must have heard me
saying I was going to go up there

because when I opened up
that trunk

to check out
what was in it, out pops Jedi.

[drill whirring]

[nervous chuckle]

Yeah, that's good enough.

You can hear
the acorns out there.

There's stuff coming out
from behind the trim.

We're at the Costin camp

and we are doing some demo.

Of course, it's hot and muggy,

and no air and we're
right in the middle of it.

Look at all those
mud wasp nests.

[Chase] Our goal today was
just start in the main living space.

There's a lot of paneling.

It's really small.

It's old, so we know

there's just going to be probably
layer upon layer of renovation.

Plan is to remove
the back third of the camp,

so there's not much to it
we'll pull everything out we can

in order to make tearing
that piece off that much easier.

[Ryan] Ryan's ten in one show.

Slice, dices, pries,
punches, pokes, cleans up.

And the roof's coming down.

Ah...

Gross.

I'm just looking
at what they framed it with

and surprised
that it's still standing.

These are not even two by fours.

They're like a three by two,

and it's quite a span.

So I'm just kind of surprised

that this place
is still standing.

[Ashley] What's up Chase.

- Oh, look at that.
- [Chase] What's going on?

"Interstate 95." What is this?

It's an old road sign?

Used as wood down here?

We started
peeling into the kitchen,

and at some point they had
done some renovations,

and it looks like they used
old state signs from

when they built Interstate 95.

I bet if we put these together,

it will talk about
the new interstate system.

Yeah.

It was built, what, in the '50s?

I think so.

[Chase] You know,
that's a perfect example

of Yankee ingenuity
and just Maine frugality.

If there's some material
that they can use, you know,

reuse of somewhere else
repurpose it.

Why not? It lasted this long

because we're able to save
enough pieces of it.

We'll try and do something cool

to re incorporate it
into the camp somehow.

Five point three-eight miles
state funds,

ten percent, federal
aid funds, 90%.

So the state had to come up
with 10,

and the federal came up with 90.

Gus, do you want to help me,
Gus what you think

the next words going to be?

State potatoes?

Thought it was kind of cool
that we just found this

old State Police sign.

Went into the main room
of the Costin camp

to take the rest of the bricks
out of that chimney

and crazy enough,
everything came crashing down.

- [thudding]
- [groaning]

[Jedi] So we figured out
the hard way

that these beams right here,

were kind of strengthen up
this floor system.

They were not secured
to anything.

The only thing holding them up is
this three quarter board right here.

This right here
and all these beams

along here are pretty much
just floating.

They're just resting
on the top plate over there.

And it was resting on this three
quarter trim board here, so...

Soon as you remove that,

the end's going to fall

and you're hopefully not going
to be standing there.

Whoo...

"Whoo" is right.

What happened to you? You
look like you got in a brawl.

- Oh, one eye.
- Looks like the sand won.

Look at him. He looks like...

- Hot chocolate lab.
- Gussy, come here.

That sums up today,
we're cleaner but we're dirty.

We're dirty but we're cleaner.

But it was cool to find
those signs.

- We'll do something with them.
- Those signs are neat.

Very cool.

to let's get out of here.

- Okay.

- [Ashley] Come on, Charlie.
- [Ryan] Come on, Charles.

[Jedi] We're at week two
at the Costin camp,

it's windy. Wind's
howling across the lake,

but it's time
to get some stuff done.

Major goal for today is to
get that back third to the camp

all torn off, and then we can jump
on to jacking the original camp.

We could have hooked
the truck on

and rip the whole thing
right off.

But I wanted to just
dismantle step by step.

Start with the roof.

Work my way down.

Nothing comes crashing down.

Nobody gets hurt.

Here it goes.

Chimney down.

Things are going really well.

We got the back
third of the camp

all ripped off, got that stuff
all out of here.

Now we're
just getting underneath.

It's probably
six to eight inches

off from one corner
to the other.

We're just going to start at our
main focal point, the high point,

and we're going to bring
the rest of the cabin up

to that one point.

This is the post
that this camp was sitting on.

So there's a bunch of those
all the way through this camp,

that we're going to
have to go and replace.

[machine whirring]

Slow and steady
is the number one key

to jacking and leveling.

Everything underneath
looks pretty solid.

[machine whirring]

[Jedi] Fall's here.

It's nice, cool, windy day.

We've had some frost already,

so now it's time to start
building our addition.

Got the guys cutting all
the stringers and all the joists

right now. We're going
to get that first deck built.

Get that sheathed over and then
we'll be able to start going upwards.

[Chase] It's our third week
on Farr's Cove

at the Costin camp,

and Jedi and his crew did
a great job

building a new floor system
for the addition.

Today we're getting ready,

to frame of the walls to close,

and sheath in the new room.

[machine whirring]

Right now, we're a
little ahead of schedule,

which is good, because there's
some nasty storms coming

that are definitely
going to slow us down.

[Ashley] I am at my friend,
Ashley's house

in Lowell, Maine.

She makes
beautiful custom lampshades,

and I thought she'd be perfect
for the Costin camp.

You ready to make a lampshade?

I am,
all these different patterns.

Oh, my gosh, I'm overwhelmed.

[chuckling]

It's hard to choose one.

Oh, yeah, so this is the one
that we spoke about, right?

Yes.

[Ashley] Before I came up,
Ashley sent me a bunch

of different fabric choices
to look over.

Instantly I knew that the trees

was what I wanted to use.

Patty and Tim
really like the camp decor,

and I think
that these lampshades

are going to totally
just blend in perfectly.

So we decided to do a
floor lamp and a table lamp?

- Yeah.
- And so...

- With the same fabric...
- Yeah.

...so we're going to start
working on the smaller one.

It's easier to learn
on the smaller ones.

[Ashley] Okay, perfect.

And I've gone head
and I've done the hard part,

which is pre-cutting the paper.

Okay. Something totally different
than anything we've ever done.

It will add to the overall
enjoyment of the camp.

And this one's a great
pattern to start with.

Now, what we're going to do
is we're going to pick an end,

and we're going to
glue this down.

In this end. I'll cut.

So it's nice and straight.

[Ashley] First thing we did,
was we cut out the template

for the actual size
of the shade,

stuck it on to the actual fabric

that we chose to use.

Then we glued down
the herringbone trim

let that dry, and then
took our lampshade rings

and glued the herringbone trim
to the lampshade.

And there you go,
we have a lampshade.

Oh... That's beautiful.

- That's awesome.
- Yeah.

Just like that, we've got
a beautiful lampshade.

It's a really cute touch, and
her work's going to go great

in the cabin, but it also is

going to bring in
some great light.

[Chase] Luckily,
we got all the rafters up.

Then we can finish
doing the lower roofs.

Get those sheathed
over and get the place

closed in weather-tight
soon as possible.

[Chase] We are back
at the Costin camp.

We tore off the back

addition, tore off
most of the roof.

Kind of figured
a good place to go.

We rebuilt that and extended
the camp six feet.

We're able to get a bathroom
over there.

A new back entrance, kitchen
will be right there.

And first bedroom
is on this corner

of the new addition,

and second bedroom
is on this side of the camp.

We're not doing much
to the front of the camp

because they've already built
a new deck.

Today we are working
on getting the roof

rafters up and lofted so we
can start closing in the camp.

We've got one ridge beam

that we're setting
the rafters on

for the front part of the roof.

But then we need to go
up a little higher

to set the back rafters
in order to get enough pitch

on the roof to shed snow
and water.

Beautiful.

Because the original camp
was built in the 1890's,

it wasn't built to last.

So we've struggled

with being able to support
the original structure

without tearing
the whole thing down.

You know,
we ended up creeping further

into the original camp than
we had originally intended.

But once we got it
all stripped back,

we saw how poorly framed up
it was.

And so, in order to get that
second floor

in there and new roof system,
we had to make sure

that everything
was properly supported.

[Dixie] Cutting little mini
studs for our little knee wall

that's going on top of our
ridge pole that we just set up.

What have you got here,
big stud making little studs?

[chuckling]

So we are coming to check up
on the Costin camp.

Um, they're still doing
the build part of it,

but I thought of the fun
to get all dressed up

in our fall colors
and come visit the guys.

Check out the design.

Good. Just needed to come
and check it out.

Get some ideas of, spatially,
what's going on in the camp.

[chuckling]

Whoa.

- This has grown.

- [Ashley] Wow.

There'll be a wall right there.

That back will be walled
all the way off

so that bedroom will be
enclosed in that back "L."

[Ashley] So, just standing
here looking around,

I mean, this is a lot
more open space.

I don't really think that the
camp had that much potential.

They got six more feet
on the backside.

So what this means to me
is I'm going to have to

just find that much more stuff
to decorate with.

[Chase] I mean, our goal today
was to get the rafters on.

There's supposed to be
rain later today.

It doesn't make sense

to start sheathing
if it's gonna start raining.

So, you know, if we can
get the rafters in,

get the walls
kind of figured out,

then sheathing can happen
once the rain stops.

And the rain arrived, but
luckily we got all the rafters up.

We've got the window layout
figured out

so that the gabled end walls
can go up.

Once those walls are up
and sheathed,

then we can finish
doing the lower roofs.

Get those sheathed over
and get the place closed in

and weather tight
as soon as possible.

[Dixie] We're out of here.

Got to cut the day short,

while, you know, it's not
real safe to be up on a roof.

You know, we're supposed
to get some high winds, too.

So better to play it safe
than sorry.

[Jedi] It's week five.

We're here
at the Costin camp today.

A lot of things happening.

We got the roof going on
right now.

Got all our rafters,
our flying rafters

our fascia board,
all our shadow board.

That's all up.
So now we're able to come in

and we're able to roof
all these new roof lines.

Easy enough we'll be able
to tie the old roof line

into the new roof line
out front.

The sides,
we've got stripped back.

Once we get a roof on it, we're
ready for house wrapping windows.

[Chase] So I brought the signs from the
Costin camp over to my workshop today,

and I'm going to work
on a small kids' playhouse.

One of the Costin boys
has a small child,

and, you know,
as they get older,

they'll have a small
playhouse to use.

Thought I'll bring these inside,
de-nail 'em, and start ripping 'em up.

The signs, they weren't
in the greatest condition,

they're a few different
thickness variations.

So to actually build a solid
structure, there probably isn't enough.

So I decided to kind of go
with a lock-together playhouse

that can easily be assembled, disassembled
and be in a few different configurations.

You can just take it like so.

You kind of can make windows.

That's the general idea of it.

You kind of take triangles,
make 'em like that

so that you can then
just put slots across that.

When it's four feet wide,
we'll be able to have

a small opening for the doorway.

But this is just the general,

basic layout how it's
gonna work.

We're into the fifth week
of the Costin camp.

The guys are ready
for Eastern White Pine siding,

and I decided to go with a solid
maroon stain on the clapboards.

Today we are working
on getting the stairs

to the second floor laid out.

You know, stairs are always
a head scratcher.

We've got, you know, certain
parameters and restrictions

in order to get the stairs in,

and we just need
to configure 'em

to make the most use
of the space,

and make it as easy as possible
to get up to the second floor.

[Jedi] Right now we're all inside,
getting all our interior framing done,

getting some walls sheathed,

getting a little bit of insulation
on some of those walls,

and just trying to get as
much buttoned up as we can.

The weather is turning on us,
and supposed to be down to 25.

It was frozen this morning
when we got here.

So hopefully the snow holds off
for another two weeks anyway,

but we'll see what happens.

So today I've brought
the cushions from the glider

from the Costin camp over.

- I've got the cushions.
- [Lori] Hurray. Come on in.

- Move right to the table there.
- Okay, perfect. Thank you.

The one thing
Patty really pointed out

and definitely wanted
to save was this glider.

So I thought, let's re-upholster
it and give it a fresh look.

So Roger and Lori
are the experts.

What they did was,
we took off the old cover

and what we found immediately,

was just this old,
kind of nasty, foam.

[Roger] What we're gonna do is we're
going to repair the broken wood pieces.

- [Ashley] Okay.
- We're going to re-fasten those loose joints we found.

- Yeah.
- Then we're going to cut a new piece of foam...

- Yeah.
- ...that'll fit this side here.

- And we'll glue it to this side.
- Okay.

- We will wrap the whole thing up in a new clean muslin.
- Yeah.

And once that's done, I'll use
the material you just brought in.

- Okay, cool.
- It's just the right amount of heavy.

- Perfect. Yeah.
- It's nice and soft.

The first thing that we had to do was
we took and measured the cushion.

After we measured the cushion,
we got the fabric out

and then we made our cuts.

After we made our cuts,
we took all the pieces,

sewed them together,
added a zipper,

and then we're ready to go.

- [Roger] We got some Dacron.
- [Ashley] Once the cover was made,

we took the cushion, put
the Dacron covering around it.

[Roger] And we'll put
the zipper on this end.

So this is the front, is a nice
smooth wrap in the Dacron.

Most fun part
about the whole thing

was when we got to wrap it
in that silk stuff.

[Roger] And we're gonna wrap
this whole thing in this film,

and we're gonna suck
this foam down really small,

put it in the case,
we take the vacuum off,

and it expands back into place.

- [vacuum whooshing]
- [Ashley laughing]

[Ashley] Get some
of that silk stuff,

get your vacuum cleaner,

put on the reverse cycle.

Boom, shove it in.

Oh, my gosh. This a great
trick I learned today.

- This is...
- There you go.

[fanfare]

So the cushion came out great.

I love the fabric.

So now I'm taking a little
swatch of the fabric

and I'm gonna go
pick out a paint color,

and I'm gonna paint the glider
and we're gonna install it.

It's gonna be comfortable,
and it also is gonna look great.

As soon as, um, it's ready,
give me a call and I can

- meet you out at the camp and we can install this.
- Perfect.

I can't wait to glide in it.

Maybe Ryan will glide in it with
me. [laughs] So that's how you glide.

I can't [laughs] glide.

[Jedi] Assuming these are the
two kitchen and the two upstairs.

But we'll just get 'em in, uh, on
that back wall, get 'em out of the way.

Windows are here today.

It's awesome.
It's a beautiful day outside.

We've got great weather
for the next couple,

so we're gonna get
all our windows in,

we're gonna get
our outside buttoned up,

and that's gonna allow us
to concentrate on the inside

and get that right to where
it needs to be.

Windows will be in today, and
we'll be back to siding tomorrow.

[Ashley] It's our final week.

It's a really freezing day here.

Everyone's got a job and,
yeah, lots of moving parts.

So kitchen cabinets are
getting set in place by Dixie.

We got sink, cabinet, corner.

We'll put the stove there,
fridge there.

And then those will be ready,

ready for the countertop,
ready for a sink.

Ready for Doug.

And then really, last thing
in here will be flooring this

but that's
the last thing we'll do.

By the end of the day, we will
poly ourselves right out of here.

[Ryan] It's below freezing,
the wind's howling.

The inside crew...

It's nice and warm in there,
but you know, it's only November.

So it's too early to get soft.

You got to be out here,
toughening up.

Patty really wanted
to keep this.

So I went and had
it re-upholstered.

[Ashley] This cabin is a lot
larger than it was.

It now has three bedrooms,
plus a nice big seating area

in the upstairs.

So a lot more living space.

So we need to have
a lot of furniture.

And fortunately for us, they had
a lot of really nice stuff already.

Oh, white. As a primer?

No, this is the color.

Then we'll get Jake
to turn that heat back on

and it'll dry right up,
and it'll be ready to go

when they get here
with the cushions.

The glider frame still needed
to get a fresh coat of paint.

And I'm just waiting
for Scott and Lori.

Whoo! It's cold.

It's pretty.

[Chase] We are finishing up
painting on the interior,

getting right to poly
the floors,

getting the kitchen
countertops in place,

finishing the bathroom.

Uh, really, it's the last minute trim
details that need to be wrapped up.

Place is looking good,

[Ashley] It's a really
large cabin.

So fortunately, Patty and Tim had, um, a
bunch of furniture that fit right in great.

So I just came in,
added a few personal touches.

Ashley's team came in here,
did a fantastic job.

You know, just a little bit of clean
up, a few more small things to hang.

Camp is ready to get back.

Hello?

- [Chase] Good morning.
- [Ashley] What's up?

Nothing.

[Chase] It's a chilly
morning here in Farr's Cove.

Ashley and I are getting ready
to hand camp back to the Costins.

We got few last things to finish up
but we should be done fairly quickly.

Last thing we had to do was
assemble the little kids' playhouse

that I'd built using the old
signs that we found in the walls.

I want to be the builder.

You never used to let me play with the
building sets when we were kids either.

Now you just let me
come in and decorate 'em.

So found his old signs that
were part of the renovation

at one point in the camp.

Um, they're old highway signs,

and we decided
to reincorporate them into

almost like a build-your-own,
kids', you know, playset.

So over the last couple
of days, I finished it off.

I made these side roof pieces
and then I put these little

notches right here
to hold the slats on.

I had a little bit
of left over pine

that I stained the same color
as the camp

so that they're easy to,
you know, set in place

but they're also easy to remove.

Their grandson's
a little young right now

but something down the road,
they can play around with.

- Your team did a good job.
- Yours did, too.

- All right, let's go change your hat.
- [Chase laughs]

[Ashley] They had
this old journal,

and I brought it to a specialist,
who rebound it for me.

So now all of the pages
are in here, nice and secure.

So then Nick and I built
this shadow box to display it.

And I've left it open

so if they want to look at it
and flip through the pages

and whatever, they can.

- Did you like those lamp shades? They're cool.
- They are.

The Costins had $75,000.

We were able to get it done
before winter really set in.

- The house looks great. Let's go meet 'em.
- All right. Let's go.

[Ashley] Nothing left to do
but give it back.

Hi, welcome back.

- [Patty] Wow. Look at the color.
- [Tim] Wow.

[Patty] Love it. [giggles]

[Tim] There's a whole
'nother second floor.

- I don't think we're in the right place.
- [Patty] Oh, my God.

- [Ashley laughs]
- [Patty] It's beautiful.

- [Tim] Oh, my.
- [Patty] You are absolutely beautiful.

- [Patty] I love it.
- [Ashley] Great.

[Tim] Excellent. Nicely done.

I love the color. See, to me, that's
rustic with the green, with the red.

It's like a house,
it's not a camp anymore.

- [Tim] You actually have a back door.
- [Patty] I know.

[Chase] Yes, you have
a back door now.

It's jacked and levelled,
got it out of the dirt.

We've got in here
and started tearing it apart.

So we tore off that back third,

and we you know, had to really
be smart about how far we went

because, you know, there
wasn't much originally holding it up.

So we had to, you know,
get creative,

find ways to get some
structure into the place.

But we were able to get it, you
know, rebuilt, get a second floor on it,

rebuilt the bathroom side.

We went with a pine clapboard
siding, new windows throughout.

It is buttoned up and bug-free.

That was the top of the list.

Great. That's all that mattered.

They really listened
to what we wanted,

- and they were able to fulfill our wish list.
- Yes.

- [Tim Jr.] That the original roof?
- [Tim] Wow.

Yeah. You can see where
the original roof line was,

and then brought out
another nine feet there.

Put in solid headers,
we were able to get creative

in order to get enough head
space up on the second floor.

- [Ashley] Tons of head space.
- [Chase] Yeah.

[Tim] Great.

Obviously, the process it
came out of, incredible work.

So thankful at what
we can see now.

It doesn't even look
like the same place.

[Chase] Let's keep going.

- [Patty] Your road sign he talked about, Tim.
- [Chase] So...

[Tim] That's part
of the kitchen.

[Chase] It was under the sink.

It looks like signs from the highway
when they were repairing it or something.

So we decided to build a little
build-your-own playhouse for when he's older.

He can, you know,
build his own little cabin.

- [Patty] Very cool.
- Nice idea. Thank you.

Super cute.
I think it's really cool

that he can take it apart and put it
together, and kind of build his own thing.

[Patty] Awesome.

- And then your glider, we had re-upholstered.
- [Patty] Yes.

- The cushions underneath were in very bad shape.
- So pretty. Yeah, they were.

They've been here
since like 1897.

Now it's extremely comfortable.

[Patty] Wow, What a difference.

[Patty] All the amazing space.
It's just open and light.

It was pretty dark before and
now it's all bright, and it's awesome.

[Chase] The ceiling was so low.

It was barely supported.

So we were able to pull
the floor system out.

But we needed
to re-support everything

so we kind of did, almost did a
timber frame inside the structure.

So we got the carrying beams you
know, posted up, it goes right up through.

And we were able
to raise the floor height,

which allowed us
to put larger windows.

And then we just carried it right
through with you know, the beams

and the floor system,
into your new kitchen area.

[Tim] Wow. Oh, my God,
I love the countertops.

[Patty] Wow. Oh, my gosh.
This is amazing.

- [Patty] Like we bought a whole new camp.
- [Ashley laughs]

It's a real shower, too.

[Ashley] We were fortunate
to have all of your stuff,

and we just kind of added
our own touches to it.

And we found your old journal.

- That's awesome.
- I didn't want to put glass in there

- so you can flip through it and get into it.
- [Patty] Yeah, sure.

But, I mean, that thing
was close to falling apart,

- so I was, hey, let's take the time, get it redone.
- Thank you.

- Yeah, and now you have a new one.
- Oh, good.

- [Ashley chuckles]
- Adorable.

[Ashley] And then we also,
the lampshades,

- I went and made.
- Oh, you did?

[Ashley] Yeah. I thought
they were really cute.

[Ashley] So we have some stairs that
you can actually feel comfortable using.

- [Patty] Tim, look.
- [Tim] I can see that.

- [Patty] Got to hang on.
- [Ashley] Come on up.

I'm not used to this.

Going up and down back then,

- we didn't really mind it too much.
- [Patty] Mmm-hmm.

It's gotten to be
a little tougher lately.

We were a lot skinnier
back then too. [laughs]

- Oh, my God. Wow.
- [Patty] This is amazing.

This is crazy.

[Chase] You know, we had to
get creative about how to get...

- [Patty] You did a great job getting creative.
- [Chase] ...the space up here.

So we kind of did
that bump up there,

you know, to get
those windows up top

to let more light
into this space.

You know, we've got that
bedroom out front with those,

you know, with those sliders
that have the great view.

Let the breeze in here.

- [Patty] I love this. This is our room.
- [Ashley laughs]

[Alexandra] I like
the separate bedrooms

'cause before we were in the bunk
bed with the Pack 'n Play with the baby.

So it'll be kind of nice
to have the space.

definitely was a challenge.

One of the older camps
we've worked on,

but I think we were able
to blend the old with the new.

- We were right on budget and a little bit early, so...

like I hit the lottery

hand off something to the boys now,

that hopefully will last
another 120 years.
