That was the most trippiest
turn‐around, blind audition,

freakiest thing I've ever
experienced in my life.

You do not look like
your voice.

And that's what makes it
super cool.

Tonight, we're celebrating
10 years of "The Voice"

by reminiscing about all of the
special moments over the years.

You're the first person
that's ever auditioned

that's giving us an opportunity,
not the other way around.

but I am honored to be a part
of this milestone season

and to be amongst
"The Voice" family.

I'm Carson Daly.

Tonight, we are taking a look
at how our coaches built

their Season 20
live playoff teams,

and we're also celebrating
"The Voice's"

amazing 10‐year anniversary.

Let's take a little walk
down memory lane as our coaches

reminisce about some of
their firsts on the show.

I've been here since Day One,

and I remember our very
first day of blind auditions,

just like it was yesterday.

It has been truly
an incredible ride.

Take a look.

I would have possibly.

I didn't waste my button.

Season 1
of "The Voice" ‐‐

My first impression
of the other three coaches was,

what in the hell did
I get myself into?

Turn back around!

I mean,
here's Christina Aguilera,

one of the biggest stars
on the planet.

Yes!
I didn't even know how to be
around somebody like that.

But, see, Blake, I consider
myself country, too.

I'm from Atlanta, Georgia,
so, you know?

And then here's Cee Lo Green.

The last time I saw the guy
at this point

was on the Grammys,
singing with Muppets.

It's gonna be okay, baby!

And here's this skinny, pale guy
from Maroon 5,

and here I am,
the country guy on the show.

I was so intimidated.

The only reason
they even hit their button ‐‐

they knew that
I would want you on my team.

Come on.
You don't want to be late!

Before my first season,
on "The Voice,"

I'd been friends
with Adam and Kelly,

but I did not know Blake.

One more time, guys!

I've formed really good
friendships

with my fellow coaches.

It's so cool.
They're a part of your life now.

I miss you, Blake.

I miss you, brother.

I knew John.

Had met Kelly once.

Didn't really know Blake
too well.

He lived up to all
my expectations.

Do we think it's
the same outfit every time?

He makes the environment on set
light and enjoyable.

This is stupid!

He's a really good ‐‐
dare I say it ‐‐ ringleader.

Because of
the country connection,

I got to go with Blake.
Yes!

You know, I remember
my very first blind audition,

and I remember thinking
I didn't want it to end.

I remember how much fun
I was having.

I remember my first season.

This is
your first voice.
My first one.

I was very button‐happy.

The first time I hit my button
was for Maelyn Jarmon,

winner of the show.

What a magical first turn.

John Legend,
you've won "The Voice"!

Brynn Cartelli was
my first ever chair turn.
Yes!

It's the first time
I hit my button...

Victory!
...and I picked a winner,

Kelly Clarkson wins it!

First artist I ever got
on my team was Tate.

I went on stage
and coached a little bit...

...which I think helped
seal the deal.

that extra measure.

Let's take a look at who Nick
is bringing to the live playoffs

and how these talented artists
secured their spots on his team.

Being a part of a show
that's been on television

as long as this show has

And I think my live playoff team

has what it takes
to give Team Nick a win

in this very special season.

First up,
his vocal powerhouse,

Dana Monique,
had an emotional journey

before making it
to the "Voice" stage.

I am a single mother
of two children.

And we were put out
of our apartment.

I didn't have anywhere to go.

We slept in our truck.

Wow.

It's tough,
and in those moments,

you don't feel like
you're a good mom.

I had gotten a temp job.

I didn't do
too many singing gigs,

because it was important
for me to be there,

you know, with my children.

It's ‐‐ It's been a journey,

and ‐‐ and they rode this wave
with me.

She found a way

it wasn't easy
to see him get hurt like that.

My biggest outlet was music.

I was writing a lot
of overcoming songs

because that's my story,
is overcoming.

Rachel Mac came out
in the blind auditions

and sang Patty Griffin.

Did not get a chair turn,

Before I went on stage
last season,

my mom had to get rushed
to the hospital.

She was diagnosed with

small cell
lung to brain cancer ‐‐

the type of cancer
you just never know

how long you have.

This season, I said, "Ma, you
gotta see me get a chair‐turn."

"The Voice" has just
been a blessing.

This has brought
an opportunity

for something
my family to celebrate.

and it was so beautifully done.

came from difficult beginnings

but has persevered
through it all.

When I was 3 years old,

I was placed into
the foster care system

with my siblings.

It was a sad experience,

but that is just
the foster care system.

It's not the best place
to grow up in.

My siblings and I were adopted
by the most amazing family ever.

We looked
on the computer,

and there was this picture
of all four of them.

And Jim said,
"That's our kids,"

and that was it.

When I think back
on me as a child,

I am so proud of myself
for coming this far.

Growing up,

I feel like music was
a really good outlet for me.

Being gay and knowing
that I was different,

I've struggled with anxiety
and depression.

After I came out,
I lost a lot of friends.

Everybody turning against you,

obviously, that is awful
for your mental health.

If I could tell myself
one thing,
