In this lecture I'm gonna show you 2

how to connect a USB device to a virtual machine. 3

As an example, I'm gonna be connecting 4

a wireless adapter to my Kali machine. 5

But the same method can be used to connect any USB device. 6

Now as mentioned in the course requirements 7

you need a wireless adapter 8

So these are the lectures where we're gonna show 10

you how to crack the passwords for Wi-Fi networks. 11

Other than that you can do everything else 12

in the course without a wireless adapter. 13

What I mean by a wireless adapter is a USB device 14

that connects through your USB to your computer. 15

And allows you to communicate with wireless networks. 16

Now most computers and laptops come 17

with a built-in wireless card. 18

The only problem is first of all 19

you can't access built-in wireless cards 20

from a virtual machine. 21

Also even if you can, so even if you installed Kali 22

as a main machine, the built-in wireless cards 23

are not good for hacking. 24

Because we need a powerful adapter that supports 25

monitor mode and packet injection. 26

And we're gonna go into what each of these mean. 27

But basically the built-in wireless adapter 28

does not support these modes and can't be used for hacking. 29

That's why I recommend powerful wireless adapters. 30

So I already have VirtualBox open 35

and you just want to click the machine 36

that you want to connect the adapter too. 37

We're gonna go to it's settings, 38

we're gonna go to USB and make sure that USB is enabled. 40

And you want to pick the USB option 41

that is used by your adapter. 42

So it's either USB one, two or three. 43

And for the adapter that I have it uses USB two. 44

Then you want to come here to the plus sign and click on it. 45

Now you'll see that I have a number of devices 46

that I can attach to the Kali machine. 47

Now I still haven't connected the adapter. 48

So first of all I'm just gonna 49

have a look on the available devices. 50

Then I'm gonna connect the adapter 51

and I'm gonna list the devices again. 52

I did that because we're assuming that I don't know 53

the name of my adapter because the name 54

that you'll see here is the name of the chipset 55

Now before starting my virtual machine 66

I'm gonna physically disconnect my wireless adapter 67

and then I'm gonna connect 68

the adapter once Kali fully loads. 69

So I'm gonna put my username which is root 71

Okay now Kali is fully loaded, I'm gonna go 73

and physically connect my wireless adapter. 74

Like I said I usually do this just to avoid any conflicts. 75

Now once the adapter is connected you wanna make sure 76

that it's attached to Kali 77

and to do that we're gonna go to the devices menu. 78

So we're gonna go all the way to the top. 79

We're gonna go to devices, we're gonna go on USB 80

that this adapter right here is checked. 82

Now sometimes it might not be checked for you, 83

so click on it to check it, for me it's already checked, 84

And to confirm that the adapter is connected 86

we can just go on terminal right here and type ifconfig. 87

This command lists all the interfaces 88

that's connected to the machine. 89

an adapter called LAN zero, which is the wireless adapter. 91

Some adapters are not compatible with Kali 96

so that could be the issue, 97
