in the early part of the last century
small groups of determined men and women
set forth from their homes to build a
new nation
these pioneers travel long distances
overcoming great obstacles
when they grew weary a place was chosen
and their covered wagons were drawn into
a circle
here they settled for a short time and
there was much song
spirited dance some love and a good
feeling
this temporary home was called the
stamping gram

from the mountain he watches her
fighting his time and his eyes are the
eyes of an ego

at the fall of the day the man
of the mountain is nearing the end of
his travel
on the fences down on the westland barns
on a football ponds and the grabber
[Music]
comes and knocks three times on viegra
still as he steps inside
from the sudden chill and the moment
is caught in the match of the night
for the coming of dawn to unravel
on sarah she flies as the morning dies
with the broken wings of a seagull
from a window he watches her
a man in his time but his eyes

i feel less uptight here than i've ever
felt anywhere
do people have a beautiful country all
right
we're going to bring alan up here with
this mississippi saxophone
we're going to play a little down home
music for you so if you got somebody
sitting next to you you dig put your
hands on it and make them feel good
we want to do one for you now brand new
and most of the things we're going to do
for you today are all going to be kind
of new
so you'll get to hear what can't heat
sounds like rather than all those oldies
but goodies we play all the time

[Music]
freedom
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
lord and go home to my lord
[Music]
before
[Music]
and be free
[Music]
my music comes from you know comes from
very much inside of me
and like i mean some people
some people just are as craftsmen as
writers and performers you know and they
perform other people's material in a
very good way you know
they're acting out things you know but a
lot of what i do is is i i'm not acting
out
the part of anyone else i'm acting at
the part of myself you know and so if
i'm
going through some changes then it
just comes out that way to be a bit more
specific about those changes
change as well like from going from a
group situation
to going to just being by myself
to going from uh a pose of
see a pose of being very serious
to i'm trying to break through that pose
i don't particularly like that pose
that much i've done that for a long time
and i'm trying to make the music reflect
that
and so a lot of the music that i'm
performing now
reflects uh part of my personality that
i'm trying to get rid of
so it's kind of a schizophrenic
performance there was a time when i
wrote serious music and no one else was
serious you know
but now everybody's getting so serious
that i want to tell a joke or something
i want to you know relax or something
i think
[Music]
uh
[Music]
oh
[Music]
[Music]
so
[Music]
as we come down
[Music]
we hope everybody
[Music]
uh
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
okay
all about them
[Music]
so
[Music]
and now we're all going down
[Music]
yes
[Music]
oh
[Music]
where we are
[Music]
[Music]
away
[Music]
[Music]
um
[Music]
the time
passes
[Music]
when you're in a dream
[Music]

buying anything you want fire stones if
you like
anything and special for you
antics tomorrow this you will pay for
this same one the double
price with three uh teams as you see
you can use it to catch some fish and
the price is only 10 cents it's very
cheap as you know
because they almost don't break and
if you think 10 cents is too much then
you look yourself in the garbage because
they're laying around but you can really
eat with them if you like
coca-cola
[Music]
[Music]
baby
[Applause]
[Music]

[Music]
of here
without you
[Music]
[Music]
is
[Music]
oh
[Music]
the airplane uh almost always since the
beginning
always demanded certain things before
they would play you know and
unfortunately they were very good
as a matter of fact there's a lot of
festivals right now and they're very
careful we've turned down
a lot of very high prices on festivals
because there's been so many bad ones i
think this
this festival here in rotterdam is a
very very excellent festival
but there have been so many festivals
where the promoters have not cared about
the people
who have come you know they make them
said endured or something uh
they don't give them any food to eat
they don't give them any drink they
don't provide hospital things
all of these things are covered very
well at this festival but a lot of
promoters are only interested in
making money you know they don't care
about the music they don't care about
the people they don't care about
anything
are you managing those groups just to
make sure they get their money
or because you want to keep this kind of
music
coming to the people well i really enjoy
it yeah
i really do enjoy it i really enjoy the
music and
i really do maybe i'm corny but i really
do believe that
the bands of today are like spreading
the
a lot of truce and bands like you know
the airplane
and santana and the grateful dead our
friends you know
we go around we play all over the united
states
you know we play over here and i think
that we're communicating
you know ideas that are very universal
among the youth and i can see these
changing all over and the youth is like
starting to take over the world and i
think the rules going to be a better
place
don't you think that the music coming
from the states which
i suppose a good side of all this trash
you're in has a lot more guts than
coming from most other countries it's
always true of any art
if a country is persecuted and bummed
out you usually get really uh
electric artistic endeavors
it's like the country's very peaceful i
mean like how much great art comes from
switzerland
you know all the stuff comes from from
like where there's turmoil where people
are upset and they react their
whatever their emotions are good or bad
it's a peaceful world might be very
boring
no not necessarily it depends on what
you do when you're peaceable
yeah i mean we're peaceable as much as
we can and we don't find it boring at
all
yeah but you're fighting you're also
still uh got a lot of stuff to look at
right let me just say i don't even
object to killing
as long as the two parties are both
interested in it in other words if
if two countries uh say now the only way
we can settle this
because we're so stupid is by uh uh
killing each other then okay now we're
gonna have a little sign
up here uh all you guys
that want to fight to the death and
there are plenty of men who
actually enjoy doing that kind of stuff
sign up here
and you get maybe stadium sure any
battle between china and the united
states and then you don't have to hurt
other people
if if they have to have wars uh then
they ought to do it by
uh signing up a certain like 500 people
from
russia and 500 people from the united
states and take them down to australia
and let those 500 guys hassle it out and
howard johnson's could have a big hotel
and you could go down there and watch it
for the people like to watch that kind
of stuff
then they wouldn't be killing other men
women and children who don't want to be
in a war
that's the only thing i object to if two
guys mutually want to kill each other
great let them kill each other get rid
of all the jerks
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
when she's completed
[Music]
smoking caterpillar has
