Much of it remains unexplored.

Hey guys. Welcome to my channel: Dare Kelly.

-Say hi. -Hi.

Today I have Will Stone with us in studio

and Will has very graciously agreed to give us some of his time

to play the wildly popular internet game: Truth or Bullshit.

You ready?

-I am ready. -Okay, and…

Your first novel was rejected by over fifty publishers?

Bullshit! Bullshit!

It was over a hundred.

Er, ouch, that sucks. Okay, question two.

The first spirit you saw was your grandmother?

-We don’t need this-- -Hey!

-True. -[huffs]

When she appeared to you, she didn’t know she was dead?

True.

That’s creepy.

[laughs]

Uh, she still appears to you sometimes?

Bullshit.

In your books, you dramatize and exaggerate your experiences.

-Bullshit. -Are you sure?

-Bullshit. -No, I’m joking. He really doesn’t.

Okay. You’re an only child?

Bullshit and true.

[clicks tongue] Okay. We’ll circle back to that.

I read on the Internet that you can read minds?

-True. -Really?

Think of a number between one and a thousand.

-Yeah. -Not 15 is it.

-No. -There you go.

[laughs]

Okay. Do you have any more dad jokes?

Actually, I have a joke.

There were two muffins sitting in an oven and the one muffin goes:

"Oh, my god, it’s hot in here."

And the other muffin goes, "Oh, my god, it’s a talking muffin!''

[phone vibrating]

[woman] Could you pass on a message?

I don’t particularly want to, but I can.

Could you tell him my dad’s agreed to the meeting?

And, please, can you tell him not to be late.

Yeah, sure. I’ll make sure he gets the message.

So I’m your secretary now, huh?

[phone alert pings]

People love your video.

It’s got nothing to do with me. It’s you they love.

[laughs] You think so? Listen to this:

"If Will likes dark places so much, I’ve got just the spot for him."

Classy.

-[Kelly laughs] -[phone alert pings]

Oh, what about this one? "Will, please come and help me.

There’s a ghost in my house."

"And by house, I mean bed, and by ghost, I mean me."

-What does she look like? -I didn’t say it was a she.

[Kelly laughs]

Oh man, just admit it. You had fun.

-I wouldn’t go that far. It was alright. -[Kelly laughs]

[Kelly sighs]

I didn’t know you had a sibling.

I don’t.

Well, not anymore. I used to have a sister.

She died when we were children.

I’m so sorry.

It’s fine.

You would’ve liked her.

She had a thing for cameras too. A lot like you.

You two remind me of each other.

She wasn’t sick.

We were... playing down this water canal.

It got flooded.

[sad music playing]

[Joe] So am I the only one who feels like this is a complete waste of time?

[Will] Yes.

[Kelly] Wait until you hear the rest of the story.

Guys, once I did a dare on a farm just like this

and long story short, they were a cult and--

[Will] Ivy.

Hi.

Thank you for having us.

I’m Will. This is Joe and that’s Kelly.

Listen, there’s something you’ve got to understand.

He’s only doing it for the money. He’s not going to make it easy for you.

Understood.

Come in.

[donkey braying]

Huh!

Dad. This is Will, Kelly and uh…

Joe.

Thanks for seeing us.

I don’t have much time so ask your questions.

Okay.

You alright with the camera?

I don’t care.

How do you know it’s real?

[low monotonous music playing]

She let you live?

She doesn’t let anyone live.

-[loud screeching] -[man groans]

She ran out of time, that’s all.

I got lucky.

What does that even mean?

According to folklore, the witch sleeps for 12 years.

Feeds for a week.

Then returns to the cave. Right?

Why 12 years?

It’s not the why you should be concerned with.

It’s the when.

Do you know what these are?

[somber music playing]

[Joe] I don’t know. I’m going to take a chance and say...

plants?

Psychedelics?

It’s an alarm clock.

They flower only every 12 years.

Imbali iletha... ukufa.

"The Flower of Death", the locals call them.

Any day now these buds are going to open their eyes

and when they do, so will she.

So assuming this, uh, this fairy tale is actually true right,

why don’t you just er, hunt her down,

and kill her in her sleep?

Problem solved, right?

I’ve been down those caves for years.

Months at a time.

The caves run for miles.

And where the caves end, the mines begin.

And to make things just a little easier for you...

she controls everything you think you see down there.

So you think you can find her?

Be my guest.

Please.

Take us up there.

[tense music playing]

[Kelly] So... what do you think? Do you believe him?

[Will] I’m getting there.

[Kelly] I don’t know.

Most folklores are just stories.

-What makes this different? -The facts.

In 1996, eight people went missing in this area.

2008: fourteen. Exactly twelve years apart.

None of the bodies were ever found.

So, either the witch is real...

or our host is a delusional serial killer,

taking us to the mountains for his 12-year itch.

Shit.

Hey so, er, your dad. Is he okay?

What do you mean?

I mean, does the lift go all the way to the top? No offence.

Joe, there’s nothing wrong with his mind.

Trust me, I wish he was crazy, it would be easier to deal with.

So you believe him?

I don’t have to. I know the witch is real.

How do you know that?

Because I’ve seen her.

The day she came into our house and took my mother away.

Come. We need to keep moving.

You don’t want to be stuck up here alone.

[sinister music playing]

[Robert] Right there.

There are a lot of other ways into the cave...

but this here is the main entrance.

[sniffs]

[Kelly] Alright.

How do we get down?

[Robert] We don’t. We’ve run out of time.

What do you mean?

There’s still sunlight.

You’re not from these parts.

When the sun sets, the mist rolls out of the caves,

and it’s not safe.

Is this where she hurt you?

Yes.

What if she can’t be killed?

She bleeds... she can die.

And how do we know that she, bleeds?

[sinister music continues]

What’s this?

Yeah, so what? It’s a finger.

It’s hers.

-[screeching] -[squelching]

I took it off her.

That doesn’t mean she’s mortal, at least not in the way you think.

Part of the basis of witchcraft is reanimation.

What are you trying to say?

She’s not human. So the rules don’t apply.

And all those weapons are going to do, is slow her down.

Then what do you suggest?

Back at the house I saw a distiller. Does it work?

Yes. I use it all the time.

And the plants?

They grow down there?

Yes. Why?

I might have an idea.

[low monotonous music playing]

[Joe] There is something, seriously wrong with this place.

Like there's some sort of witch-worshipping cult?

They have llamas.

Who keeps llamas?

And have you seen these donkeys?

They’ve got blue eyes.

That is not normal.

What’s a normal donkey eye color?

I don’t know. Just not blue!

It’s like they’re running some weird,

sick, twisted Nazi experiment on these animals. It’s not right.

[scoffs]

[Ivy] Here you go, guys.

[Kelly] Ah, thanks, hun.

-[Ivy] Cheers. -Cheers.

Okay, okay. I’ve got it.

So if the witch is connected to these plants,

why don’t we just burn them?

'Cause then we’d just have three dead plants.

I’m sorry Joe, that’s not the way it works.

Why not?

The plants are rare. Yes.

But there are more of them on the mountain.

It wouldn’t make a difference.

It was just an idea.

I’ve got to say, it feels good having you guys here.

It’s normally just me and my dad and it can get pretty intense.

I can imagine. Must be tough.

I just…

I don’t want to lose him as well.

You won’t.

Will really knows what he’s doing.

Does he?

I mean, he’s never dealt with a witch before.

Just saying.

[baboon barks]

[sinister music playing]

[birds chirping]

[dog barks in background]

[music grows louder and ends]

[cow moos]

[Robert] Well I’m taking her down, and this ends with me.

Robert, listen to me. We can help you.

I don’t need your help.

You can’t do this on your own.

You said it yourself.

-You got lucky the last time. -I know how she works now.

-I won’t let her get away again. -You sure about that?

You’re twelve years older. You are obsessed.

And that... doesn’t help you.

Who do you think you are?

You think you know everything.

Tell me, how long has she been in your head? A day?

A week?

She’s the only thing I’ve been thinking of, for the last twelve years.

And you? You’re just a little writer.

-What about your daughter? -Why do you think I’m doing this?

You willing to leave her without a father?

It came into my house.

It killed her mother and my wife.

[somber music playing]

I’m putting her down, and this ends with me.

I know...

what it’s like to lose someone you love.

But if I had one, last, chance at retribution,

I’d throw everything at it.

And I’d take all the help I could get.

Robert.

Come on, man.

Let’s take her down together.

[sinister music playing]

[Will] So, we’re going to try my idea.

There’s no guarantee it’s going to work,

but I think it’s our best chance.

So what’s the plan? [sighs]

We’re going to need the distiller.

[big inhale] Oh, so we’re getting drunk?

[scoffs]

Joe.

There are a lot of reasons why flowers die.

Soil composition, temperature variations, etcetera.

Some plants function differently.

Once the flower has served its purpose,

the plant releases an enzyme, it’s like a kind of a kill switch,

which then causes the flower to die.

[Joe mockingly] That is fascinating.

Now why the hell should I care?

Because I think our plant has that enzyme.

And I think it’s poisonous to the witch.

So when it’s released into the atmosphere--

The air becomes toxic and she can’t breathe,

-and she goes back into the cave. -Yeah, but I was going to say--

Why do you know so much about plants?

Oh, I used to work with plants a long time ago.

-It doesn’t really matter-- -You used to grow pot, didn’t you?

-Grow is a very strong word-- -Okay, what do we do?

Okay, so we extract the oil from the plant

and if it goes directly into the witch’s bloodstream, it should be lethal.

And what if it isn’t?

Then I don’t know.

We take our chances.

You know what I think?

I think we should just leave.

What? It’s not like she’s going to hop onto a bus

and come looking for us, right?

Wait...

do witches ride the bus?

[sighs] Should we get to work?

Yeah. Sure.

What?

[tense music playing]

Well, we’ve either done something really smart

or we’re winning a Darwin award.

What’s a Darwin award?

It doesn’t matter.

So what do we do now?

Now we get out there.

And we wait for the alarm to go off.

[eerie music playing]

[tense music playing]

No, that’s fine. That’s good.

[beep]

[phone beeps]

[eerie music playing]

[Robert] Just remember what I said to you.

She controls what you see so, don’t look her in the eyes.

-Got it. -And when she speaks

don’t listen to her words. They’re poison.

Mind if I ask you a question?

What?

Is this also for your book?

What’s it been like?

Waiting, all these years.

Like I’ve been holding my breath,

but instead of oxygen in my lungs… it’s acid.

[eerie music continues]

[long exhale]

[Joe] What the hell is your problem?

[sighs] I just...

-I need to go. -Go where?

-Where do you think? -Oh.

Is it number one or number two?

Shut up, Joe.

I’m just saying, if it’s number one we’re all adults here.

If it’s number two, then…

Kelly, there’s a hill over there. Just go.

Give me your phone. Go.

Okay,

thanks.

[eerie music continues]

[crow caws]

-[Will] Kelly? -What?

-What’s wrong? -Nothing. I need to pee.

What, now?

-Yes. Now! -Okay. Hurry up.

[crow cawing]

[music grown louder and more urgent]

Will! The flower’s open!

What’d she say?

[screams] Dad!

Dad!

Dad!

-[Kelly] Joe! -[Joe groans]

Oh my god! Oh my god!

[Joe screams]

[Robert] Ivy!

-Ivy! -[Kelly] She went that way.

-You okay? -Go, I’ve got this! I’ve got this!

-Go! -[Robert] Ivy!

Joe, breathe. Okay? Breathe?

-She stabbed me. She stabbed me! -It’s okay. You’re okay.

-The bitch stabbed me! -[Robert] Ivy!

It was so dark. I couldn’t see anything.

I’m so sorry.

[echoing] You let me die.

I was scared.

-How could you do that? -I couldn’t move.

You’re my brother.

-Why didn’t you stop me? -Rose, I love you.

I love you.

I’m sorry.

Because we’re family.

[Joe scoffs]

Yeah, some family.

[Will laughs softly]

[man] We’ve waited long enough, Will.

It’s time.

What exactly are you expecting?

[man] I have my theories, but...

I don’t want to share them with you. I don’t want you to be swayed.

Hmm.

Maybe nothing will happen.

Perhaps. But it’s important to find out.

[Will sighs]

Alright.

I’ll do it.

It’s the right decision, Will.

Call me when you get back.

Will do.

[man] Good luck.

[computer beeps]

[somber music playing]

[Will] I hope they’ll be able to start over.

But it won’t be easy.

Not when you’ve been burdened for so long.

The weight may be gone, but the memory of it remains.

After all these years I’ve come to realize an important truth.

We’re not the result of the things we’ve done,

but rather the things we haven’t.

The moments where we lacked courage to act.

It’s our regrets that haunt us,

that slowly pull us down.

Maybe the only way we can heal,

the only way we can ever stand up straight again…

is if we face up to our past.

[young Will] How long do you think we’re going to stay here?

[Rose] I don’t know. Maybe a few weeks. Why?

[young Will] Just wondering.

What is it?

You don’t like the house?

Dad says people die in there.

Grandfather says it’s cursed.

They’re just trying to scare you. They don’t want you playing in there

and getting lost.

There’s nothing to be scared of and I’ll prove it to you. Come on.

Rose, wait.

[sad music playing]

[Rose] You’re going to be in high school in a few years

and if you’re scared of everything the older boys are going to bully you.

You need to start growing up.

No, Rose. What are you doing?

[ball splashes in water]

[echoing] Nothing’s going to happen. There’s no such thing as monsters.

[tense music playing]

[echoing] Rose, please. Let’s just go back.

[Rose] You need to face your fears.

[water flowing]

[young Will] What’s taking so long?

[Rose screams]

[music ends dramatically]

[closing theme music playing]
