The Long Ballad

Episode 26

Now my mother is dead,

I want to realize her last wish.

I want to look at this world.

If father has a fit person to take charge of Eagle Division,

please ask him to take good care of Eagle Division.

Sun, on this grassland, apart from Sun,

no one is qualified to be the Tegin of Eagle Division.

No matter where I go, Ashile Tribe would be in my heart forever.

Please let me go, Father!

Sun,

you know, father has cultivated you so hard since you were young,

I placed great hope on you.

Why are you flinching now, Sun?

I have been thinking that as long as I am strong enough,

I could protect everyone.

But now, I can hardly protect my own mother.

Maybe I am not the hero on this grassland.

Please let your son go.

I don't want to compete with anyone.

Why do you improperly belittle yourself?

I have done my best.

If I knew this, I shouldn't have done those things.

Let me leave.

Then I will let you go.

But you have to remember,

no matter where you are, your father loves you forever.

Sun, I don't expect you to forgive me.

I just hope that after I leave, you would get rid of a burden.

Don't suffer from me.

Come on.

This girl is in some kind of trouble.

Everyone has his or her own difficulty.

Since she doesn't want to tell you, why bother to ask her?

That makes sense.

But, grandpa, can we change a horse when we get to the next town?

Look at this donkey, Little Gourd is about to give birth.

How could she drag us three?

It's too slow.

When can we arrive?

The donkey is good enough.

You, young people, have so much time left, why in such a hurry?

Drink tea.

Fine.

Do you know that due to your impulsion, Alir died,

what would the consequence be like?

I was wrong.

Please punish me, Uncle Khan.

Punish?

If I punish you, could Alir come back to life?

Do you know that Alir is the only one Sun cares about in his life?

The biggest advantage of Sun is not his ability to lead troops,

but he got the hearts of all the people in Eagle Division.

But from now on, I can never control Eagle Division.

Now Ashile Tribe is in disorder, and I lost my Eagle Division,

When can I get my strength back and fight the south?

Crap!

Just a bunch of crap!

The root cause of her disease is not just a wound,

but a mental trauma.

According to her pulse condition, she is dispirited,

with no hope for life.

She doesn't want to live, even the god can't help her.

Why are you looking at me?

I can only save her.

I can't heal her.

Nonsense.

Save, save.

You have to bring her back to life, so that it can be called save.

If she can't be brought to life, how can you say you've saved her?

I can just save her, but not cure her.

You have to make her move again now.

Move... move...

Since you two ask for no return, then I would leave now.

No, no!

You can't...

Chase her back.

A patient like her is hard to find.

Not bad, not bad!

Looks like a soft girl,

but act fast and violently when being attacked, A good student!

What are you doing?

Since you don't want to live, then I can slay you.

Why did you save me?

Right, why would I save you?

Then I should slay you.

Grandpa, she... she is moving.

But,

she spitted blood...

Is that serious?

This way to arouse her desire of survival is a strong pill to sooth her depression.

You've found a snap course!

Since it works, then I have something to do on this way.

What?

Grandpa, I...

would be a master soon.

The famous Tegin of Eagle Division is resigning.

You said I was a coward.

I think you are more suitable in this title.

This is the best chance for you to put me to death.

Why did you help me?

Believe it or not, I've never wanted to put you to death.

I see you as my biggest rival, indeed.

But we were also brothers, weren't we?

I didn't hate you at the beginning.

I've tried my best since young.

I really work hard on battlefields, I fought for Uncle Khan,

I tried my best to achieve success and earn the recognition of the whole grassland.

But no matter how hard I tried, and how well I behaved,

you were always ahead of me.

Every time you surpassed me in some aspects.

More and more people are talking behind my back,

they were saying that you were better than me.

It seemed like all my efforts were like a joke.

So the more they supported you, the more I hated you,

the more I wanted to compete with you.

But after all these things, I found out that

actually I didn't hate you,

but myself that was not as good as you.

It was my obsessiveness that led to the situation now.

I admit that it's my fault.

So this is why you saved me?

If I really lost you, how boring would it be?

Don't expect my forgiveness.

I would never forget my mother's death.

Then stay and retaliate against me.

I said that, if it worked, you would have been dead now.

Did you leave Eagle Division for Li Changge?

The whole Eagle Division is no match for Li Changge?

As long as I am the Tegin of Eagle Division,

I will be responsible for it.

But Li Changge,

she is the one who I will protect by my life as Ashile Sun.

As soon as I settle Eagle Division down,

I will find her even if she is at the end of the world.

I think I know why I always lost to you.

Sher!

Where is Changge?

Tell me now!

Where is she?

Mimi...

- Please tell me where she is! - Stand up!

Please!

Tell me where she is.

Stand up.

You were the last one who saw her.

You must know it.

I...

Mimi!

Don't ask him!

He doesn't deserve it!

He won't tell you.

Sher...

I know who you are.

If you have any grudge, just vent it on me!

Changge is innocent.

She was in the south,

and saved by a man seemingly from the Central Plains.

I have no idea if she is alive or not.

Did you lie to me?

I will never lie to you.

This is what she left when she got saved.

Here you are.

This is Changge's wooden hairpin.

Send Su Yishe to search along the way to the south.

Don't miss any man from the Central Plains.

Yes.

Go quickly!

Changge!

Wait for me!

Khatun.

Aunt Alir's remains have been packed up.

How should we deal with it?

Burn it up.

Yes.

Khatun.

Are you missing the Central Plains?

The willows dance in the breeze in spring,

fireflies fly in the summer's night,

red autumnal leaves drifting along the stream,

the white snow covers the lantern and glass.

The central plain in my memories always has four distinctive seasons.

But in the south, even if it's in winter,

green grasses and trees are always on the lush mountains.

Just because of your longings for your homeland,

you gave birth to this trouble-making son.

Your boy is so foolish that he killed Alir!

Fine.

Now no one can keep Sun here, he wants nothing here!

And he is leaving me.

I put Alir in your tent, why didn't you take good care of her?

Now you two are unforgivable for making such a big trouble!

Please calm down, Khan!

Khan... I... I can die for my fault, but Sher...

Sher is always loyal to you, and to the prairie.

Maybe he is not good enough now.

But if you give him some time, and wait till he makes progress,

he could take the important mission of the grassland.

Please give him another chance, Khan.

Another chance?

Don't think that Sun leaves,

so I could pass all the things to your silly son!

A loser can never be the king of the grassland.

The glory of Khan always belongs to a powerful man!

The sad face again!

I hate you being like this!

From now on, you are grounded for a month.

Together with your silly boy, reflect on your faults deeply!

Remember, from now on, no these stuff again!

Tegin, good news.

We found the people from the Central Plains at the boundary of grasslands.

The guard once inquired a donkey cart,

with two men, a young and an old, as well as a young lady in there.

The old man said that they were the doctors going to the south.

It must be Changge.

Su Yishe, find some more details.

Yes.

That's so great!

Mu Jin.

Stay at Eagle Division.

Just as always, report to me as soon as you get news.

Sun.

I want to go with you.

I want to take Mimi with us too.

Many hands make light work.

No.

I need to do it on my own.

The big trouble made by Changge has just been eliminated.

If Khan finds out our action, we will be in trouble.

You and Mimi would be better to stay here.

Sun.

What about your wound?

I'm quite clear how my wound is now.

Mu Jin.

You are the only one I can rely on about Eagle Division.

Fine.

You won't listen to me anyway.

I must owe you something last life.

Find her back quickly.

Take care of yourself.

By the way, Where is Luo Shiba, who was taken here by Changge?

She has left since the day you came back from the court.

She believed that Changge was alive,

and said that she had to find her.

She was right.

Good.

The more concern there is,

the more hope it will be.

Sun.

Are you really into Changge?

If you don't want to say it, forget it.

Yes.

I'm saying,

yes.

I like her.

Then did you tell her?

Does she know it?

Is it necessary to tell her if you like someone?

Is it unnecessary?

What you do matters.

I think she will know it.

What a nice fur!

Leather of excellent quality.

Give me another blanket.

Okay.

Have you seen her?

No.

No.

Have you seen her?

You are so funny!

Have you seen her?

What are you drawing? No.

Have you seen her?

No.

Have you seen her?

No.

Have you seen her?

No.

Please enjoy it.

Okay.

Miss, are you looking for someone?

Let me have a look.

Have you seen her?

Is it a man or a woman?

Woman.

Can't you see it?

Yes, I can.

Your drawing is quite good.

It's a bit familiar.

Could you tell me how old she is?

I don't know.

The same with me, perhaps.

You are not friends?

Then why are you looking for her?

Does she owe you money?

No.

Then are you in a deep relationship?

No.

What's her name?

You should know this.

Then I can't tell you if I know her.

Her name is Li Changge.

Wait... I saw her.

Where is she?

Follow me.

Where is she?

Just ahead of us.

There, we are almost there.

Go ahead.

Just at the front.

Pass that door and we will see her.

Tell me the truth.

Who is your boss?

Who asked you to find Li Changge?

Are you from Chang'an?

Liar!

Lady... no, no...

Swordswoman! Don't be angry.

Just a misunderstanding.

Was she killed by you?

No, no. I am her friend.

How could I kill her?

Friend?

Yes, yes.

We were in the same camp.

What is a friend?

That's it.

Then I don't know what happened next.

I never thought that Young Master would have gone through this.

Young Master had a good luck!

She was captured by Ashile Tribe.

She could even made them such a mess.

Maybe not.

What do you mean?

We don't know if she is alive or not,

so we don't know if she has a good luck.

Believe me, Ms. Luo.

People of Yanxing Sect have been looking for her too.

We would finally find a way out.

Yanxing Sect?

We were the staff of the former governor of Shuozhou, Gongsun Heng.

We are now following your master, and we are called Yanxing Sect.

We pretend to be a trade caravan.

You should believe us.

More people would be of more power.

It'd be hard for you to find her only by this drawing.

Why?

Anyway, we will look for her with you together.

Ms. Luo, since we are for the same goal,

we have to exchange our messages,

so that we can work together to find Young Master.

No matter who get the message first,

we have to contact each other through these codes on this paper.

Is that clear?

Take this too.

Miss, you'll be in danger if you go alone.

Do you need my protection?

Okay. Never mind.

Situ Langlang!

Is that enough?

No! Not enough!

Far away!

Taoist Sun is my creditor.

He asked me to train you to cure you.

I have to listen to him.

Cure?

You call this a cure?

Watch it!

If you get hurt, it won't be good.

Situ!

Your apprentice is quite good!

Stop, stop!

What... what student?

You take a long weapon, bullying a girl with no weapon.

How could you say you are a swordsman?

Bully you?

Since you have to counter with me everyday,

why not give me your weapon?

Of course I can.

So what?

Why you...

Again!

How is it?

Am I superior?

Little girl, would you like to be my apprentice?

We are at the same age.

I won't take you as my master.

Don't say it.

It's been hard for me to find an apprentice.

Think about it.

Yue Maiden's Swordsmanship has to be inherited.

If I learn it, can I conquer all enemies,

and kill all the enemies in the battlefield?

Of course, so easy.

If it's true, if you can help me with my revenge,

then I'd like to take you as my master.

Forget it.

I won't do it.

You didn't hear it.

Wait!

You haven't taught me. How do you know that I can't?

I've heard from what you said.

We are in a different world, you can't learn it.

Don't waste our time.

I don't believe it.

You are so stubborn.

Fine, I'll teach you.

But you know what, you can't learn it.

I'm Li Changge.

Thanks for teaching me swordsmanship, Situ.

Fine.

She just recovered, so don't make her too tired.

Grandpa... I also worked hard, why don't you care about me?

Little girl, I have a student, he was asking me for a diagnosis.

Would you come with us to Luoyang?

Luoyang?

I said you should leave first.

If you didn't have to take care of me,

you would already be in Luoyang.

If I didn't have you, I would already died.

Don't say that.

We will soon arrive in Luoyang.

As soon as we arrive, I will find you a good doctor.

Don't brag.

It's said the doctor in Luoyang is very expensive...

Xiao Wu!

Come on to my back.

Come on.

No, no.

I am a strong man.

How could I let a girl carry me?

Where can I put my dignity as a man?

- Come on. - Help!

No.

Help!

Help! Help!

Don't beat him!

Don't beat him!

You are also the refugees from the north?

Don't be afraid.

He is not a good man.

Just a bad official in the government.

You're lucky to meet us.

Go!

Let's divide our grains!

Go!

Let's go.

Follow them and have a look.

We have food, folks!

We have food!

Mine. mine!

Don't grab mine!

Don't grab mine!

I want it!

Folks!

Look at this bad official!

He was transferring so many grains, but refused to give us any.

How could he do that?

Since he wants to starve us to death,

then it's not wrong for us to grab this!

Yes, we were right!

We did a right thing!

Do you know why did they refuse to give us food?

Why? Why?

Why?

Now the distinguished are in power, we normal folks have no way to go.

Now we are in such a disaster, so many innocent people are in trouble.

Those nobles and officials in Luoyang even feed their dogs with meat,

instead of sharing food with poor people.

So even death would not expiate the crimes of these men.

Yes, yes!

You're wrong!

What's wrong?

We have no food now because of the natural disaster.

It's been desolate soil along the way here.

No food can be produced.

We can't avoid the natural disaster,

while man-made calamity is evitable.

Now you grab these grains,

those who are waiting for it would be starved to death.

If not, we would be starved to death.

Yes, yes!

We would die!

Yes!

It would be us instead.

But you should not kill them.

They just transferred these grains as asked from afar to earn their wages.

He might need to support a whole family.

They are also the friends, families and brothers of others.

They also have families waiting for him to go back.

What a miserable wretch!

She is taking for the government even in this situation.

If you don't want to eat it, then don't!

Piss off!

Get away!

Get away!

Get away! Don't stay here!

Piss off!

Go! Go!

Piss off!

Piss off!

Come on, distribute the grains.

Come on, come on.

Stop.

Grandpa, have you ever seen her?

What happened these days?

Someone asked me with a painting, too.

What a coincidence!

You are looking for the same person.

Where did he go?

Who are you?

It has been a long time since we met.

It's you.

Since you have made it to Yunzhou, please hold on.

I will find you.

It's been a tough time for you.

You haven't even had any water.

Hold on.

We will find the princess.

Your Majesty, Hao Du sent a message,

Princess Yongan once appeared in Yunzhou.

It's said that she went to Luoyang with a refugee.

Okay.

I knew that Yan would be alright.

Mr. Du, please stand up!

Pass my order,

Dispatch more people to find Yan in Yunzhou and Luoyang.

She has to be found quickly!

Send her back safely to me!

No worries, your Majesty!

I had already arranged this as soon as I got the message.

Princess Yongan must can turn ill luck into good.

Don't be too anxious about it, your Majesty.

How can I calm down under such a situation?

The disaster is getting worse and worse.

More and more refugees are coming out.

It's fairly good here in Chang'an,

but Luoyang is full of refugees and starved bodies now.

It's too wretched to hear such a situation.

Now the most important thing is to calm down refugees.

All the people of Tang are my subjects, I am so worried.

But I have no time for them.

Mr. Du,

would it be good to arrange my prince to calm refugees in Luoyang for me?

Your Majesty loves people deeply.

If you dispatch prince to do that,

I believe people in Luoyang would feel your sincerity.

But prince is too mischievous, I can't rely upon him.

I have to dispatch someone to go with him, and take care of him.

Send Mr. Wei to go with him, he is a careful and prudent man.

Prince can't be too outrageous with him by his side.

Yes.

Your Majesty, after I finish my work, I will head to Luoyang too.

What are you going to do in Luoyang?

Although Ashile Tribe has already retreated,

but the peace can't last long.

We would have a fight sooner or later.

I think I am not good enough for this issue,

and I am not feeling good recently.

I want to head to Luoyang and

find someone more suitable for the position of Minister of War.

Who is it?

The abandoned talent of Sui dynasty.

Li Jing, Li Yaoshi.

Sister, have some rest.

No, I'm okay.

You can't even tell lies.

You are already sweatened.

Xiao Wu.

Sister.

Xiao Wu.

Forget it.

You're tired.

Xiao Wu.

Let me walk.

Don't say that.

We are almost there in Luoyang.

Just ahead of...

Xiao Wu!

Xiao Wu, don't sleep, Xiao Wu!

Xiao Wu, don't sleep, Xiao Wu!

Xiao Wu, wake up!

It's my order, don't sleep!

Xiao Wu!

Sister...

You...

Are you really a princess?

Yes, I am.

When we arrive at Luoyang, you can have anything you want.

Think about what you want most now.

Don't sleep!

I...

I want you to reward me a lot of rice.

I haven't eaten rice...

Okay.

I will reward you a cart of rice.

I would let you have as much as you want, okay?

Okay.

If you really are a princess,

you must be the best princess in this world.

Good Xiao Wu, we are arriving at Luoyang, Luoyang is just ahead of us.

Everything will be okay when we arrive.

Come on.

[Eastern Palace]

Wei Shuyu is here to welcome your Highness.

Wei Shuyu!

Which prince in this world is like this on his royal progress?

Look.

Look at this.

No flags, no servants, no vigour.

Isn't it a humiliation for me?

Please calm down, your Highness.

His Majesty always refrains from extravagance strictly.

You are on this inspection tour for your father,

you should also be frugal.

Now the disaster in Luoyang is urgent.

If you could set a good example,

and show your determination of tiding over the difficulties with people,

people would extol your merits and virtues.

But should I be frugal to this extent?

You see.

This carriage is going to fall apart.

Why not ask me to ride to Luoyang?

It can't fall apart, even if it does,

we can change a new one at the courier station.

Please set off quickly.

The earlier you start,

the earlier you can send your father's bounties to refugees.

So that your Highness and his Majesty can show your concern to refugees.

But I am not the Dragon King.

Would it rain as soon as I arrive?

I've already prepared to go traveling.

Now I can't.

What a good timing!

Why was my father in such a hurry?

He drove me away so anxiously.

I even had no time to take my toys!

Prince!

Please!

I must be the poorest crown prince in this world!

I must be!

Sister,

are we in Luoyang now?

Almost there, Xiao Wu.

Luoyang is ahead of us.

Sister.

Did you hear it?

Mom was calling me.

Xiao Wu.

Ask your mother to wait for you.

Don't find your mother now.

I'm taking you to Luoyang.

Xiao Wu.

You see.

See that pass? [Luoyang]

As long as we pass it, we will arrive at Luoyang.

Then I will take you to eat rice.

Sister,

it's so good to have you.

Rice... so delicious!

♫ We get separated ♫

♫ The sand through my fingers ♫

Xiao Wu.

I'll take you there, I'll let you eat rice soon.

♫ Those years ♫

Stop.

Magistrate has an order, the dead people can't come in,

for the prevention of the plague.

No dead man here.

The boy on your back is dead,

you can pass, not him.

He is alive.

Take him off!

What are you doing?

What are you doing?

Let me go!

Xiao Wu!

Xiao Wu!

Leave me alone!

Xiao Wu!

Xiao Wu!

Xiao Wu...

What?

You dare to fight with officials!

Xiao Wu...

Open your eyes!

Piss off!

Yes!

Look at me!

Xiao Wu...

Princess.

I finally find you!

Hao Du.

Go.

I'll take you home.

Why... why?

Why am I so useless?

If I was a bit faster, if I worked harder,

Xiao Wu could have survived.

Why?

Why?

♫ For the rest of the road ♫

♫ keep on with a smile ♫
