Court Lady

Ep14

General Lu

has a dutiful daughter.

Right.

Time for the imperial meeting.

Go home.

Your father and brother

are guilty of misconduct and greed.

What you're doing won't work.

Suit yourself.

General of Pacification Sheng Chumu

is loyal to the country

and courageous on the battlefield

with brilliant achievements in war.

You will be promoted to General of Dominance.

I am grateful for Your Majesty's kindness.

Sheng Chumu,

are you still willing to fight wars in the future?

I'm willing to fight for Your Majesty

and the Tang dynasty anytime.

Good.

What a fearless young man!

However,

you've just escaped death.

Your father doesn't want you to go,

I also won't let you go.

Stay in Chang'an.

Guard the city for me.

I won't let Your Majesty down.

Father has truly recovered.

He had six bowls of rice

and almost a whole dish of steamed bacon.

No wonder Father is so happy.

Our brother is promoted so high up when so young.

Only generals valued by His Majesty

have the opportunity to guard Chang'an.

Others can only dream about it.

I'd rather let His Majesty make me a guard in the Palace.

You want to be a guard instead of a general?

I see. You are like Chuling.

You all choose girls over careers.

You want to be with your girl in the Palace.

Chuling,

can you

bring Rou out to meet me?

No, I can't.

I'm just a guard.

And my only job is to patrol.

Besides, I only cover a small area.

Even I have to

make plans to meet her,

let alone getting her out.

It's driving him crazy

not being able to see Fu Rou.

As a matter of fact,

you and Princess Xinnan are much happier than them.

Sheng Chujun, I am warning you.

Don't tell others about Xinnan and me.

If the Empress finds out about it,

I'll be dead.

Your Highness, slow down.

That's enough.

The imperial physician said I should move around more.

Your dance was radiant

that day at King Han's Mansion.

Now you look so haggard.

Don't do this anymore. Get up.

You can't change His Majesty's mind,

why stay here and suffer?

My father and brother are all in prison.

If I can't even take pains like this

for them,

my family will be ashamed of me.

Why is His Highness talking to her?

His Highness is softhearted.

She grabs every chance to look pitiable.

She really knows how to

grab His Highness's attention.

Greetings, mother.

Quick, get up.

I've told you.

Now that you're pregnant,

you don't need to greet me every day.

Keeping the baby safe is the top priority.

Thank you, mother.

Sit down.

Has the Crown Prince still been busy lately?

Yes.

But still, he has told the kitchen

to cater to my taste

so that I can eat more.

He should be considerate of you.

However,

it's not convenient

for you to serve the Prince now.

You can leave some things to others.

As a wife,

you should be generous.

I will ask the concubines

to serve His Highness well.

You are so sensible.

I have nothing to worry about.

Your Majesty.

Is Lu Yingying still on her knees?

Yes.

She's wearing an armor weighing tens of kilos under the sun.

At this rate,

I'm afraid she won't survive.

She's obviously doing this to His Majesty look bad.

It's outrageous.

His Majesty has his plan

for the Lu family.

I am tired.

You can go back and rest.

Yes, Mother.

I'll leave now.

Sun Tan failed at educating his daughter.

Among all virtues, filial piety comes first.

In terms of filial piety,

what Lu Yingying is doing for her father is exemplary.

Drink it up.

It helps you last longer.

I have done what you asked.

Thank you.

Are you on good terms with the Lu family?

I hate Lu Yunji.

Nonetheless,

I truly admire her.

Your Highness,

His Highness will spend the night at Concubine Lin's place.

He won't come over.

Her Highness is not feeling well.

Call an imperial physician.

Also, tell His Highness.

Yes.

How is she?

Your Highness,

there is nothing wrong

with Her Highness.

Nonsense.

Her Highness was feeling sick just now.

She's just felt better.

You can all leave now.

-Yes, Your Highness. -Yes, Your Highness.

Feeling better?

You felt better as soon as I left

Concubine Lin's room, right?

Your Highness.

It's okay.

I don't blame you.

But in the future,

don't lie to me.

You just

scared me to death.

I won't do it again.

I know what you think.

I promise you.

These days, I won't be intimate with you

nor with other women.

Are you happy now?

-Really? -Really.

Directress Fu,

first, you embroidered a pouch,

then a fan cover,

and then a fan pendant.

Now you're making clothes.

There are so many things.

Who are these for?

I've got some spare time.

It's just for practice.

You even sacrifice

your sleep for practice?

Shu.

Okay, I'll stop.

Eat.

Wait a minute.

Can't you smell it?

The food is spoiled. Bring me a fresh meal.

Lower your voice.

Do you still see yourself as a general?

You bastard.

Give me that.

Father.

Give me that.

Before today,

we had good meals

because Hanxing

bribed them.

Now he has also been arrested.

With no one helping us,

who will care about you?

Father,

do you think we can still get out?

It depends on His Majesty.

If not for old times' sake,

I'm afraid we won't even have spoiled meals.

No way.

We helped His Majesty gain sovereignty over this country.

I...

Qi.

You have to remember.

You have to remember it well.

Monarchs are cruel.

I've worked so hard

for so many years,

and I've been loyal to His Majesty

every day for decades.

But in his mind,

we are just

dogs locked in the corner

waiting to die

when he is angry.

Your Majesty,

Lu Yunji has indeed made mistakes.

But he's also made contributions to the country.

I know he has merits.

But commoners of a whole city have suffered greatly

due to his greediness.

Right.

If Lu Yunji were under my lead,

I would behead him

without hesitation.

Your Majesty,

if Lu Yunji is spared,

it'll hurt our military prestige.

Your Majesty,

but Lu Yunji saved Your Majesty before.

I did, too.

But I'm not so shameless

as Lu Yunji.

Duke of Lu.

-You! -Enough.

I asked you to follow me and look around.

But all you've been doing

is arguing with each other.

Your Majesty,

now that Lu Yunji broke the law,

should we remove

his portrait?

It's not right.

Not right?

Not right.

Look at the man in the painting.

A full head of black hair.

However,

When I saw Yunji a few days ago,

his hair

was greying on the sides.

Your Majesty,

Lu Yunji has followed Your Majesty's lead in countless battles.

Now,

he is getting old.

Right.

Is Yingying

still on her knees out there?

Yes.

She's fainted a few times

but is still on her knees.

What a stubborn child!

What a good child!

She's so dutiful.

She is a dutiful child.

Go.

Tell her

I want to see her.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Why are you wearing this heavy armor?

This belongs to my father.

It's scarred by swords and knives.

Several places

have already cracked.

But Father asked others

to sew them up with iron wires.

You're demonstrating Lu Yunji's contributions to me, aren't you?

I dare not.

Mencius has said that

humans and animals

are different because

humans are born with four seeds.

Sense of shame.

Sense of humility.

Sense of right and wrong.

And...

Compassion for others.

Everyone has compassion for others,

let alone a sage monarch.

I don't know how to repay my parents for raising me,

I can only beg Your Majesty for mercy.

Please execute me instead of my father.

Everyone has compassion for others.

Lu Yunji is guilty.

However,

he has been by my side for decades and made tremendous contributions.

You are a pure and dutiful child.

I don't

have the heart to execute you.

Send my order.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Release Lu Yunji and Lu Qi.

I won't reward him

for quelling the rebels.

Nor will I execute him

for destroying a city.

Yes, Your Majesty.

I am grateful to Your Majesty.

Yingying.

My lord,

my lady had been on her knees for several days

to beg His Majesty for mercy.

Her knees hurt so much

that she can't stand up straight.

Look,

she just fell asleep.

Looking back,

I've fought so many battles for my country.

However,

now my daughter has to beg

to save my life.

What are you carrying?

Embroideries for Princess Xinnan.

Did you make all these?

Yes.

Directress Fu,

you play favorites.

The embroideries for Princess Xinnan

are much more delicate than mine.

Why are these all red peonies?

Why is there a man's outfit?

It...

It...

It's Her Highness's reward to others.

I'll take it.

No, you can't.

Princess...

Today is my birthday.

I just want a piece of clothing as my birthday gift.

Can't I?

But...

Look, it fits perfectly.

For Your Highness's birthday,

the Sewing Office should make new clothes to celebrate.

I'll make one at once when I go back.

But this one is reserved.

Please give it back to me.

I am already wearing it.

If you have to have it,

you can take it off for me.

You!

No?

You're done?

Then it's mine.

It looks great.

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

Hey.

You frightened me.

If you scare me like that again,

I'll ask your brother to punish you.

Well,

guards can't chat with court ladies.

I was afraid someone might see us.

Oh right,

why did you ask for me?

Right,

send these

to your big brother.

What are these?

So much good stuff!

Don't touch it.

My big brother is so lucky.

Sheng Chuling!

I'm going.

Who is that woman?

What? Are you jealous?

Are you telling me or not? I'm asking you.

I wanted to tell you.

But with your attitude,

I won't.

What are you carrying?

It's not for you.

Let me have a look.

No.

Come on.

Are you okay?

Don't mind me.

Just give it to me!

-No. -Sheng Chuling, you're hiding things from me.

Give me that.

Stop grabbing.

Give it to me.

Sheng Chuling,

who gave you this?

A perfume satchel?

You smudged it.

You're blowing on that?

You can't blow on it.

I can.

No, you can't.

Can't you be reasonable?

Everything I do is reasonable.

I order you

to throw all of these in the water.

I won't.

What did you say?

I said, "I won't."

I won't.

This is

very important.

Sheng Chuling, you are a jerk.

What's more important than me?

What is?

Your Highness.

What are you doing?

What's wrong?

What is this?

I'm pissed.

Is there anything wrong with Directress Fu's work?

Who?

Directress Fu.

No one except her can make these

in the royal court.

What a bitch!

I went through a lot of trouble

to get it out of the court.

Give me that.

Go away.

You are so ungrateful.

Get out.

She misses me so much

that she can't even sleep.

I am the same.

She's visited my grave.

Oh right.

I haven't been there myself yet.

She'll love me forever.

I know.

Me too.

She loves me more and more.

Me too.

I'm so happy.

She wants to see me soon.

How can I get Rou out of the royal court?

Apologize.

Why?

What did you say?

I said, "why".

You should be the one apologizing.

Those things were made with a lot of effort,

but you threw them away without asking.

Is that acceptable?

How dare you talk back to me! I'm a princess!

We're the only ones here.

Stop using the princess card.

So arrogant.

I don't like it.

Whether you like it or not,

I'm a princess.

I was born a princess.

Am I wrong?

Stop yelling.

I...

Stop yelling.

No.

You're with someone else now.

You don't like me anymore, Sheng Chuling.

Stop yelling.

No. I'm gonna hit you.

You're so bad.

You're being unreasonable.

Where is the Xinnan who was by my side

caring for me when I was heartbroken?

Where is she?

It was because we thought your brother was dead.

If it happens again, of course I'll be by your side.

Say that again.

Say that again, I dare you!

Anything can happen on the battlefield.

If your brother is on the battlefield,

isn't that a possibility?

You!

Your Highness,

Directress Fu is here with embroideries.

It's all because of her! Make her go away!

Yes, Your Highness.

Wait a minute.

Send her in.

Your Highness.

Your...

What is this?

Go back and make a new one!

Morning.

Morning.

My lord.

Morning.

Duke of Lu, good morning.

-Morning. -Morning.

His Majesty is softhearted.

They got off easy.

-Duke of Cai. -Duke of Cai.

Duke of Cai.

Duke of Chang.

Thank you for your kindness.

I won't forget it.

It's alright.

I was just sticking to the facts.

Chumu,

don't be a bad guy.

Or, others will get the goods on you

and put you in prison.

Look, when some people are out of prison,

they can't even ride horses.

They can only sit on a carriage.

So sad.

Duke of Lu,

not anyone can sit in this carriage.

Lu Qi.

Father.

Do you remember?

I was injured in the war against the Tuyuhun army.

His Majesty bestowed this carriage upon me

and allowed me to sit during meetings.

It's been years.

This is the first time that I've used it.

Please don't laugh at me.

I wonder if the Tuyuhun Empire

was ransacked or not.

What did you say?

The gate opened.

After you, Duke of Cai.

After you.

After you.

After you, my lord.

After you.

After you.

Are you getting better?

Thank you for caring, Your Majesty.

I'm much better.

His Majesty spared my father and my brother.

I'll always remember

His Majesty's great kindness.

What a grateful child!

Even His Majesty praised that

Duke of Cai has a good daughter

by his side.

It's a pity that you're not married to the Crown Prince.

In the future, come to the Court more often

to spend more time with me.

Yes, Your Majesty.

I know that Princess Xinnan is picky,

so I didn't let others do it.

I embroidered it personally.

Even if the Princess doesn't like it,

did she have to cut it to pieces?

Maybe it's because

she was in a bad mood.

If she orders us to redo it,

let's just redo it.

But this time, we have to make it more delicate.

Yes, ma'am.

Directress Fu.

This is for Consort Xi.

I'll take it.

The water from the attendant.

I know it was from you.

It's nothing.

Don't worry about it.

I owe you one.

When there's an opportunity,

I'll pay you back.

The Empress once

wanted to make you Lady of Excellence.

It was my words

that made the Empress give it up.

Lady of Excellence

is in fact just the Crown Prince's concubine.

I'd rather be a commoner's wife than the Crown Prince's concubine.

I should thank you for it.

Your Majesty,

Fang Ziyan, head of the Four Seas Sect,

once saved my life.

He wants to pledge allegiance to the court

and asked me to report this to Your Majesty.

He's willing to patrol the sea for Your Majesty

to ensure peace on the sea.

He hopes the Court can forgive him for his past sins.

Your Majesty,

you can't do this.

Fang Ziyan has done all kinds of bad things.

He will never pledge allegiance to Your Majesty sincerely.

Duke of Cai detests Fang Ziyan so much.

Your Majesty,

I detest

all kinds of robbers.

Including those who robbed commoners

in the name of searching for rebels?

Sheng Chumu,

I have forgiven Duke of Cai.

Don't bring it up anymore.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty,

I'm familiar with the situation in Guangdong.

And I know a lot about the Four Seas Sect.

Fang Ziyan

is extremely brutal.

Whether it's a merchant ship

or a royal ship loading tributes,

he robs them all.

This man is lawless

and does all kinds of evil.

If we don't wipe him out,

it will hurt our country's reputation, Your Majesty.

Looks like Duke of Cai's ship was once robbed by Fang Ziyan.

He must've got lots of treasures.

Indeed.

Even a duke's ship

was robbed by him,

let alone

a merchant's ship.

Your Majesty, Fang Ziyan is not...

Sheng Chumu.

Yes, Your Majesty.

A pirate chief

saved your life,

and now you're defending him at the Court,

ignoring my dominance.

Are you aware of your misbehavior?

Please don't be mad, Your Majesty.

Sheng Chumu just returned from the battlefield.

It's his first time in the Court since then.

Your Majesty's dominance

is as bright as the sun.

He was intimidated by it.

Chumu,

apologize.

I won't apologize.

Admit you're wrong.

I'm not wrong.

Sheng Chumu,

have you

no respect for me?

Your Majesty, I'm not wrong.

Stop talking.

Let him talk.

It's true Fang Ziyan saved my life.

I've never hidden it from anyone.

What I said today

is not about personal gains but public interests.

I saw with my own eyes that

Fang Ziyan wiped other pirates out

and restored peace on the sea.

It's a good thing for merchant ships,

royal ships, and the Court.

If I'm convicted

for telling the truth,

then it's Your Majesty that fails me,

not the other way around.

How dare you, Sheng Chumu!

How dare you

say things like that in the Court!

Your Majesty.

Duke of Cai,

don't stop him. Let him talk.

I want to hear

what he has to say.

Confucius took in disciples without discrimination.

Gongye Chang was a criminal,

but Confucius still made him his disciple

and married his daughter to him.

With both integrity and competence,

He was among the 72 famous disciples of Confucius.

Your Majesty's virtues enlighten the whole world.

Even the pirates want to pledge allegiance

and render services to Your Majesty.

Doesn't that prove Your Majesty's kindness?

Besides...

Besides what?

A monarch once spent a fortune

on the bones of a horse to show the world

how he valued swift horses.

Thus, others sent him many swift horses.

Today, if Your Majesty

can give Fang Ziyan a chance,

then wrongdoers in the world

will know how generous Your Majesty is.

They will all pledge allegiance like Fang.

In this way,

our country can reduce lots of casualties

and people can live and work in peace.

I am loyal to Your Majesty.

I am not on Fang Ziyan's side.

I only do what's best for the country.

Sheng Chumu,

archery and riding are not your only strengths.

Looks like you are also

an eloquent speaker.

I don't need to be eloquent.

I'm just stating the facts.

What I have is loyalty

that forbids me from hiding anything from Your Majesty.

Loyalty, great.

Your Majesty, Fang Ziyan made a promise

to wipe out all of the pirates in Guangdong.

He also asked me to present Your Majesty with a gift.

This is The Splendid Landscape embroidered by Lady Hui.

The Splendid Landscape?

I may have heard of it somewhere.

Lady Hui is known for her embroidery skills.

Her father was also a sophisticated man.

It is said that

when Lady Hui was grieving over her father's death,

she hid a huge secret

left by her father in this work.

Throughout history, many have fought over this work

and many lives were lost.

Unfortunately,

this huge secret

remains a mystery.

Fang Ziyan destroyed four groups of pirates

and got this work.

He dedicates it to Your Majesty,

wishing that the Tang dynasty

also enjoys a splendid landscape.

Present it to me.

Yes, Your Majesty.

About the Four Seas Sect,

allow me to think about it.

Sheng Chumu is so bold.

He's not afraid to say anything in the Court.

Who does he think he is?

Sheng Chumu inherited

his father's temperament.

Back then at King Jin's Mansion,

Sheng Xiaojing offended

Your Majesty several times

and made Your Majesty speechless.

I thought Your Majesty was going to execute him.

However,

after reprimanding him for a whole night,

you rewarded him the next day.

After that, Sheng Xiaojing fought more bravely

and never gave in even when he was badly hurt.

A stubborn father

has a stubborn son.

Makes sense.

Oh right,

did that pirate chief

really offer you The Splendid Landscape?

Yes, he did.

But I don't know if it's authentic.

This work is so famous. There are lots of counterfeits.

My father told me this when I was young.

Before Emperor Qin

conquered the six states,

in order to have a chance to return to power in the future,

the six states

had lots of treasures hidden away

before they were destroyed.

However, with all those wars going on,

the number of people who knew about it grew smaller.

Somehow,

Lady Hui's father learned about it.

Before his death,

he told the secret to Lady Hui.

So,

it's not only an embroidery

but also a treasure map.

The whole country is already mine.

Do I care about some kind of treasure?

Right.

But people say that

the one who gets the treasure will be the king of the world.

Isn't Your Majesty the king of the world?

If Your Majesty can have the treasure,

isn't that a good omen?

You are quite right.

How about this?

I'll have this embroidery

sent to your place

tomorrow.

Let's see

if you can bring me

a good omen.

Now that I have to do the tricky work,

what if I can't figure it out?

It doesn't matter.

It's also good as a decoration.

Is Your Majesty going somewhere else?

Consort Yan isn't feeling well.

I want to check up on her.

Take care, Your Majesty.

It is said that this is Lady Hui's work, The Splendid Landscape.

But we don't know it for sure.

This is indeed Lady Hui's work.

Are you sure?

My family has

one of Lady Hui's works passed on from my ancestors.

I have studied it since I was little.

Lady Hui's way of embroidering is unique.

That's why I am sure that

this is indeed Lady Hui's work.

Looks like I have found the right person.

Check what's hidden in this work?

What's hidden?

People say that it's a treasure map.

I can't figure it out even though I tried hard.

Let's see what you can find out.

It has mountains,

clouds, and waterfalls.

Is the treasure

hidden in a mountain?

There are countless mountains

with waterfalls and clouds.

Who knows which one it is?

Directress Fu,

you are in charge of embroideries in the royal court,

and you know Lady Hui's work well.

I'll assign this task to you.

To me?

What are you looking at?

Look at the red flowers on that mountain.

Red is the Crown Princess's favorite color.

Then pick some for her.

Bearing a child is not easy. You should make her happy.

Too much work. Never mind.

Chen Ji,

come down.

I'm the best at climbing.

Be careful.

Look, it's easy.

Be careful.

Chen Ji!

Chen Ji.

Are you okay?

Where is the treasure hidden?
