It's been

seven years since I was last here on tour.

A few months ago,

I thought I would never sing again.

And if I am here today,

in front of you all,

it's because of you.

It's nice to be back.

There is alarming news for all Shakira fans.

She is postponing the remainder of her European shows

due to vocal cord damage.

"These past few days have been some

of the hardest of my career."

If she doesn't recover from this, her career is in danger.

Shakira will need the best surgeon in the world to help recover her voice.

Voice and emotion are connected in the human being in such a way

that you can't understand until you can't use it.

It was very difficult for me to recover without an operation,

and an operation was very risky.

Surgery meant being away from my children for some time

because after the surgery, you can't even sneeze.

Sasha, I remember in December when I said,

"What are you going to ask Santa Claus for?"

And he said, "I am going to ask God

and the Virgin Mary for mom to get her voice back."

Do you know what it's like to have two children

of two and a half and four and a half

and not be able to see them?

To have to speak to them through signs and gestures.

So, you can't speak for a few weeks.

And then you have to do therapy and rehabilitation.

And, well, wait and see how it goes, right?

I met with five doctors in three days.

Four of them told me that it was impossible to

recover my voice without surgery.

I had to do complete vocal rest on various occasions.

Days and days and weeks of not being able to speak.

I thought I would lose my voice forever.

Yeah, because I got sick in October,

then November and December passed...

and I was having problems with my voice

until just before rehearsals started again.

Look, I never fought with Gerard as

much as when I couldn't speak.

He would say, "Please, I need you to speak."

Because I was so angry.

I said, "Never again, I'll never be able to sing again."

I went to Lourdes and brought back holy water.

I tried everything.

I meditated.

I chanted, "Ommm."

I did everything.

Suddenly, magically, it all started to flow.

I was back.

It was like being born again.

Being able to sing, being on stage.

There were moments where

I thought that wasn't going to happen.

The doctors couldn't believe it.

I think I am a better singer now.

I value having a voice and I appreciate it a lot more,

because I give thanks for this gift.

Every time I am on stage

and I see people singing with me,

with the lights from their phones on...

and we are one in that moment.

I look at the horizon of the stadium

and I give thanks to God for healing my voice.

It brings me great joy to be on stage making them happy.

Whenever my children go to a concert of mine,

I ask them,

"Did you see all the people, how they sang and danced?"

Because sometimes we all

have problems and difficult situations,

but in that moment, we forget it all, we dance, we sing,

and we smile.

That's the nicest part of my job.

Looking back on my Protools sessions,

She is very meticulous.

One of the greatest pleasures I have had on this tour

has been going over my repertoire.

There are well-known songs that were left out,

out of respect to the public and so

they don't throw me off stage.

I think two hours of a concert is enough.

It's the longest concert I have ever done in my life.

doing concerts for an hour and 15 minutes.

I remember when my brother had to carry me out.

And now, after two hours dancing and singing,

who would have thought that I would have this endurance.

I feed off the energy of the people.

The concert ends, and I am still dancing.

No one can put me to bed until 4 in the morning.

Starting with "I am here", a song I wrote when I was 17.

to collect funds for a foundation

for which I have recently set up in my country.

It's called "Bare Feet".

We were born and have grown up in a country like this,

where there is so much social injustice,

children born into poverty,

who are condemned to live with it.

We are going to the Colombian jungle

and we are going to visit the first Bare Feet

school which we set up in this place.

I am very excited.

The school goes beyond education.

It's the space where kids can grow in a healthy environment.

The only form of getting...

equality or cementing the way for peace

is through quality education.
