"Science is an edged tool,

with which men play like children

and cut their own fingers."

SIR ARTHUR EDDINGTON

Jin-gyeom.

One day,

if you

see me again,

you should never

approach me.

You must

avoid me.

Mom.

Gosh. Hey.

Are you okay? Hey.

-What do we do? -Oh no.

-Call 911. Please somebody call. -Are you okay?

-Are you okay? -Help him.

My goodness.

Hurry up and call 911!

Hello?

Is this 911?

Someone was hit by a truck.

Are you sure you're a detective?

What kind of policeman doesn't obey traffic laws and runs into the road?

Raise your hand before you cross the road from now. Okay?

You have a cracked rib.

Stay down.

What are you doing?

Park Jin-gyeom.

Hey!

What's the matter?

I saw Mom.

Whose mom?

My mom.

I'll check the security cameras and find her.

You must've hurt your head too.

Go lie on the bed right now.

It was really her.

I said, lie down!

Do you think…

I wouldn't recognize my mom?

Fine, go ahead and look for her.

I guess the living can't beat the dead.

I love drinking,

but when I have a hangover, just looking at a soju bottle makes me feel sick.

I don't want to see you for a while, so don't call me.

HONG EUN-SU, AGE: 7 RETURNED HOME ON SEPTEMBER 22

HAN SUN-HUI: EUN-SU'S MOTHER AGE: 36

Let's think about it rationally.

On the day of the incident, the mom was abroad on a business trip.

You idiot! You're distracting us.

Sorry, I've been losing my muscles.

I have to work out. Look at my arm.

Focus.

Yes, sir.

Did Eun-su really say "time machine"?

-Yes. -It must be her defense mechanism.

They say kids act in two ways when they experience something shocking.

Either they shut their mouth or they deny what happened to them.

Then did she imagine the kidnapper as her mom from the future?

Have you checked the security cameras from the places Eun-su went to

while she was kidnapped?

I think she was lying about that.

I checked everything. The child wasn't seen anywhere.

Where are you going?

Jeez.

Take care of your husband. I think he's cheating on you these days.

Chief.

I wouldn't ask this if it wasn't so bad.

Can I hit Lt. Park just once?

I'll knock him out, so he won't even remember it.

SEOUL NAMBU POLICE STATION

Are you going to Eun-su?

Don't offend the kid or her parents.

She's still the victim, and it's her family.

Can you at least pretend you're listening?

You may be higher in rank, but I'm still older than you.

Eun-su, let me take this call.

Okay.

Yes, sir.

Eun-su.

Mom, did you get changed?

I have to go now.

I wanted to see you one last time.

Where are you going?

On a business trip?

Somewhere far away.

Somewhere you're not around.

Don't go.

Can you process my resignation?

I think I should be with Eun-su.

You didn't forget our promise, right?

Don't go to the US.

You must remember that.

Okay.

Don't forget it.

Okay, thank you.

Okay.

I'll visit you sometime soon.

Eun-su.

Ma'am.

I'm sorry. I thought you were someone I know.

Yes. Can you run a license plate?

124 RA 5025.

Thank you.

Why did your mom visit you? What did she say?

She told me not to forget our promise.

What promise?

I promised not to go to the US.

The US?

She told me I'll be going to the US

to study when I turn 17.

Ten years from now?

Yes.

She said that I must never go and that I'll get very sick if I do.

Eun-su…

Eun-su.

10 YEARS LATER, YEAR 2030

Eun-su, Mom's here.

Why are you so cold, my dear?

I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Can you hear me?

I admit I shouldn't have done that earlier.

Still, there was no reason for you

to throw me.

Let's apologize

to each other like men.

What are you looking at?

Do you know

anything about drones?

Drones?

I used to play Zerg. My specialty was the 4-pool drone rush.

What's his problem?

The drones we normally talk about are RC multi-copters.

They have multiple propellers.

There are also single-rotors.

But I haven't seen one without any.

Maybe you were mistaken because the propeller was spinning too fast.

Then, were they as popular as they are now in 2010?

No.

RC multi-copters became popular

in 2015.

THE UGLY TRUTH BEHIND A FAMOUS ANCHOR

-Darn it. -Hey.

Doing this won't make a dent on them.

Declaring war on them won't make them change the commander.

If you want a big fire, you have to start with a spark.

But the wind will blow in your direction.

If you write this, you'll burn to the ground.

They said they would internally discipline him

so just wait.

I didn't know

you thought of this world as a place full of hopes and dreams.

They're trying to cover it up.

The stew is overflowing, so let's lower the heat a little.

I'll give you this instead. Chew on this while you wait.

What is it?

A seven-year-old girl was kidnapped. Who do you think is the culprit?

You.

Why did you do it?

Darn it.

It was the girl's mom.

Isn't it shocking?

But it doesn't really make sense.

When the child was kidnapped,

she was in Europe on a business trip.

Well?

Doesn't it interest you?

Yes.

She did leave the country.

Okay.

Gosh.

My daughter-in-law is here.

I told you not to call me that.

So just tell him how you feel already. Why are you wasting your youth?

You're the only woman who can handle Jin-gyeom.

I already know that.

Are you here to see him?

No.

I came to see you, Father.

That feels good.

You must be tired from investigating the Hong Eun-su kidnapping case.

Why are you doing this, Ms. Kim?

Come on, Father.

I'm not your father.

I can't help you this time. I have nothing to share anyway.

We're also lost.

If you're lost, you ask around to find the way.

We can look for it together. I'll even carry your load.

Don't you trust me?

How can I trust you?

You promised to support me last time and stabbed me in the back.

Please leave.

When did you get here?

PARK JIN-GYEOM

PLEASE TRY AGAIN

You have a password on your computer.

Because you kept spying on it.

I see.

I was so heartbroken that I almost broke the computer.

-About yesterday-- -Forget it.

-What's your password? -Just ask me. I'll tell you.

The Hong Eun-su kidnapping case.

I can't tell you yet.

Nothing is impossible in this world.

Have you never heard this saying?

"No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars,

or sailed an uncharted land,

or opened a new doorway for the human spirit."

Be positive, Jin-gyeom.

Only then will a new path open.

Got it?

You didn't get any more beer.

You're out of beer.

You know I don't drink.

But I do. Hurry up and get some.

Can you just go home tonight? I'm tired.

If you answer three questions honestly,

I'll leave quietly.

Number one.

Where Eun-su was for the three days she was kidnapped.

Number two.

If you've secured the security footage of her mom at the hotel during her trip.

Lastly,

tell me if Eun-su saw any drones.

Why a drone?

Did she?

Are these reliable?

What do you take me for?

I'm not the Kim Do-yeon who threw rocks at your window.

Since last year, there have been strange cases in Korea.

They all don't make sense just like this kidnapping case.

But they all have one thing in common.

Drones were spotted near the scene of the crime.

Isn't it strange?

GEUMCHEON-DONG BURGLARY CASE

Email this file to me.

Tell me what you think is the most important clue for this kidnapping case.

Then I'll send it to you.

Eun-su's statement.

What did she say?

She said her kidnapper

was her mom who traveled through time.

What?

Please spare me.

Please don't kill me.

What is this?

Are you surrendering already?

You beat me up every day.

When did I beat you?

Don't you recognize me?

Look at my face.

I said, look!

Do you really not know who I am?

I don't know.

I'm your little brother.

But right now, you're younger than me.

Chapter one.

"The Door of Time" opens,

and the hands of those who seek revenge

are covered in blood.

DO NOT CROSS

Have you identified him?

We're checking.

Was he here alone? Who made the reservation?

It was reserved online, so it's unclear.

Then how did Lt. Park find him?

Darn it.

I don't get it either.

None of the cameras at the halls and the elevators worked.

Has this ever happened before?

No, never.

We even had our cameras inspected this week.

-What on earth happened? -Gosh.

My goodness.

-Gosh, did a student die? -Yes.

Gosh.

-How did a murder happen? -How shocking.

My gosh.

Really?

-Is it really a student? -Yes, it's a student.

Is this the recorded footage?

No.

A - BUILDING 102

I'm a police officer.

Is this your car?

Why do I have to answer your question?

I'll ask you for the last time. Is this your car?

No. It belongs to my guide.

He must have gone up to find me. He'll come back soon.

Can I see your ID?

I don't have one.

What's your name and resident number?

Yang Hong-seop.

160614-3017447.

-Do you find this funny? -Why?

Do I not look like a five-year-old? I look older than my age, don't I?

Tell me the truth. Who are you?

You're dead once my guide comes back.

What guide are you talking about?

Please get in the car.

Let go!

I told you you'd die when my guide came.

Does it hurt?

Does it?

Does it?

Let go!

Client 1012 is being chased by the police. We need backup.

Target confirmed. Seung-pyo and Hye-su, please dispatch.

Confirmed.

Where are you?

We're right behind you.

Hurry!

Yes, sir.

Case closed.

Restore the signal system. Control Team, keep monitoring.

-Yes, ma'am. -Yes, ma'am.

Let's go inside.

124 RA 5025

Client 1012 has returned. Please take him to his room.

Yes, sir.

Are you all right?

Do I look all right to you?

Damn it.

What will you do about the cop?

He was only doing his job. He did nothing wrong.

He beat up your client, and he's done nothing wrong?

That savage from the past beat me up.

You broke the rule first, sir.

What rule?

Murder is not allowed in any case.

I believe it was made clear.

I didn't mean to kill him! It was a mistake.

It's not a big deal, is it?

It didn't affect the future, so you can just cover it--

The terms say if you break the laws of time travel,

you will be fined, deported, and banned from further time traveling.

We made this clear.

I will be requesting your deportation.

Fine.

I get it.

Just deal with that cop for me.

It shouldn't be hard for you, right?

Shut up and listen.

Alice was formed to heal the wounds of the past.

All the staff work with a sense of purpose and pride.

We are not working for a man like you.

So stop talking rubbish

and get lost.

Damn it!

Have a seat.

You did a good job today.

Cheol-am.

Isn't the time travel permit too lax?

You shouldn't accept the traveler prone to cause trouble.

I already mentioned it to the head office, so it will get better soon.

Mentioning it isn't enough. It needs to be properly changed.

Some of us gave up a lot for Alice.

Are you talking about yourself?

Did you give up Tae-i for Alice?

Let's not talk about that.

If that's not it, why don't you look for her?

Didn't Ms. Oh tell you?

I heard. I know she's married and well.

So?

You two parted in 1992. To Tae-i, it happened 29 years ago.

But it was just a year ago for you.

Besides,

your child is…

One year is long enough.

Min-hyuk.

I now have another heart inside me.

It's smaller and weaker than mine,

but I can feel

my baby's heartbeat.

Just like how you chose Alice,

I chose the future of my baby.

I'll raise the baby well.

Because I'm a mom.

Tae-i.

Min-seong!

My poor boy…

Min-seong!

What time did your son leave the house?

As usual, he left at 7:30 a.m.

We realized that he didn't go to school only when his teacher called.

Does his close friend live at the studio?

No.

He never told us about such a friend.

Hey!

Excuse me.

She's not his real mom.

She married him a year ago.

She's got a son of her own.

-Min-seong! -Gosh.

But he's still her son. She should at least pretend to be sad.

Hong-seop.

We will go home soon. All right?

Okay.

Eat.

Yang Hong-seop.

160614-3017447.

Why?

Do I not look like a five-year-old? I look older than my age, don't I?

The youngest son's name is Yang Hong-seop.

His resident number is

160614.

160614-3017447.

3017447.

DECEASED YANG MIN-SEONG

Who did this to you?

I'm a policeman, so you can tell me.

My brother did.

Your dead brother?

Yes. I'm happy that he died.

All right, ma'am.

What about Yang Hong-seop's deportation?

It's been approved.

Then proceed with it.

What is it? Do you have something to say?

I'm not sure if this is necessary.

It won't be good if people find out that our client got deported.

It would be better than neglecting a client who committed a murder.

It's better for Alice.

All right, sir.

You're ready to depart.

Where does Park Jin-gyeom belong?

I'll meet him when I go back.

Seoul Nambu Police Station, Team Two.

Let's go.

All right.

Are you all right?

You got into an accident. Are you hurt?

Why didn't you tell me?

Why would I tell you such a thing?

Because we are friends.

And why did you not answer my calls?

If you do that again, I will put a bug on you.

I'm not joking. I'm serious.

Where are you going?

I have something to investigate.

Isn't your car out of action? I'll give you a ride.

I'm good.

Gosh.

My goodness, Jin-gyeom.

When did he buy the beer?

What is it? Did you forget something?

Who are you?

KIM DO-YEON

Hello?

Did you meet the five-year-old me?

Hey!

So why did you have to provoke me?

You can't beat me whatever you do!

Do you know why?

Because no matter what you do, you can never catch up with us.

Nothing is fairer yet unfairer than time.

Stop talking nonsense. What did you do to Do-yeon?

I killed her.

How dare you shoot me?

I still can't quite figure out who you are.

But if you came to kill me, you should've done more research.

I don't treat just anyone like a human.

You lunatic!

I just knocked her out. That's all.

She's at your place.

It's true.

Please spare me.

I don't care who you are or where you are from.

If you hurt Do-yeon even the tiniest bit,

I will be the one to end you.

Do-yeon!

Do-yeon? Do-yeon!

Hey, it's me.

Please send an ambulance to my place.

And I arrested the suspect.

I heard a police officer's family sometimes gets threatened.

So these things really happen.

Why are you smiling?

What?

It's nothing.

I'm just fascinated.

Weren't you scared?

If I were scared of these things,

I wouldn't have become your friend.

Are you all right?

I'm fine. It's just a small cut.

By the way, why did he say that he was five?

I guess…

he's crazy.

I know he was holding a knife. But how could you shoot him twice?

What if he died?

Was it because of Ms. Kim?

You like her, don't you?

It's not like that. We're just friends.

Why are you laughing?

Why are you laughing?

Can't I laugh?

Gosh.

When can we talk to him?

Tomorrow at the earliest.

Do you want a drink?

I'm fine. You go ahead.

I want this Coke, but it keeps giving me the rice punch.

I drank three cans of rice punch.

Press the button for the rice punch.

Then you will get Coke.

I didn't think of that.

RICE PUNCH

Let's see.

RICE PUNCH

Do you want a rice punch?

No.

Gosh, it's my fourth can.

This belongs to the suspect.

There's a lot of cash and some cards. Nothing special.

What is it?

Have you seen it before?

Hey.

Where are you going?

I'm going in.

Get the car ready.

Yes, sir.

-I have to go. -Have one more glass.

Gosh, just one more.

Jin-gyeom!

Jin-gyeom!

My goodness.

Where have you been all this time?

I'm sorry. Have you been well?

Of course. Have you eaten?

-I already ate. -You should come more often.

She's been pestering me since you moved out.

You should at least call her.

See?

Why are you here?

I heard you caught him.

Yes.

I came to get something.

Why go through your mom's things?

Yes.

What?

Why would Dong-ho get shot?

You didn't have to shoot him.

You shouldn't have. He's a policeman.

Cheol-am.

If I set a bad precedent, it will just make things harder for an agent like me.

You could just go back to the highest place in the head office though.

I made the best choice

for Alice.

The client's time card went missing.

I think the police have it.

The police? Who?

Park Jin-gyeom. He's a detective at the police station here.

We have to settle this quietly.

People from the past are just like us.

I will do it my way.

Listen carefully.

Find out everything about Park Jin-gyeom.

We are already on it. We will hand it over once we're done.

Good.

Hye-su, bring Yang Hong-seop back.

Yes, sir.

My goodness.

Are you okay?

Of course I'm okay.

My nickname is Unbreakable.

It suits you well.

Did you see his face?

I didn't see his face.

My eyes suddenly got blinded.

I think it's the same guy.

The same guy?

Yes.

You check the security cameras?

We did,

but nothing's been recorded.

Again?

You didn't see the gun either?

According to the doctor,

it's no ordinary gun.

What does that mean?

The bullet is too small to see with the naked eye.

Are you shooting a movie or what?

You shot a gun to catch him then got shot and missed him?

That's enough.

Do you think we feel good about it?

So you should catch him quickly. What the hell's his deal?

We don't know.

The suspect was in the hospital.

You didn't even check his identity?

We can't identify his fingerprints.

What?

We are clueless as to where he's from.

Give us a few more days.

We will do everything to figure it out.

2020, THE YEAR OF POLICE INNOVATION

INVESTIGATION REPORT

CRIME SCENE PHOTO

I heard it was a gunshot.

It's not an ordinary gun.

Both the entry and exit wounds

are too small to see with the naked eye.

THE PARK SEON-YEONG MURDER CASE

PARK JIN-GYEOM

Where are you?

I think he's pretending to be sick.

You didn't get shot, did you?

It hurts like crazy!

Gosh.

Hi.

When you get shot, they buy you meat.

-One more soju shot glass, please. -Okay.

-Are you all right? -Yes. I'm all right.

He didn't get shot.

-Gosh. -He's faking it.

Let's make a toast.

Well done, everyone.

I don't expect Jin-gyeom to join us.

Why aren't you drinking?

Preventing muscle loss.

You can lose some. This is not a human's body, is it?

What's wrong? He looks great.

Cheers!

MOLMOKJI BARBECUE

I think it's the same gun

that killed your mother.

I think so too.

What are you going to do?

I am going to catch him.

You got any leads?

Don't you have anything to do? I said I will call you.

Did you find anything?

I analyzed it. But there's nothing unusual about it.

Right.

Both of them are just ordinary cards. Perhaps you were mistaken.

Then is there any expert in Korea who I can consult about it?

I'm not sure. I don't know much about that field.

I'll look into it myself, then. Thank you.

The time card is not here.

Where is Park Jin-gyeom right now?

He's at a university.

But I'm not sure why he's here.

Let me see.

There's one person, but she's giving a lecture now.

Where's the lecture hall?

Guys. Do you really not get it?

How can you major in physics when you don't even understand this?

Are you all idiots?

What is it?

What do you want?

What's your problem?

Prof. Yoon Tae-i has nothing to do with your mom.

Did you mistake me for someone else?

Are you a time traveler?

Why do you keep asking me about time travel?

-There's someone I must catch. -What is it this time?

I just have a few questions.

Get lost. This is my place.

Can you look into what this card is for? It belonged to my mother.

You think she had something to do with time travel?

Let's retrieve the time card tonight.

Where's Park Jin-gyeom now?

So it's called a time card.

I don't think I should let you live.

Who are you people?
