[The emperor was stricken with a bizarre illness,]

[causing him to age a year every day.]

[His aging body was about to perish.]

[His third daughter, Princess Chang Ping,]

[Princess Cheng An died under mysterious circumstances.]

[Princess Sheng Ning, a famed beauty,]

[was luckily rescued by her cousin and childhood sweetheart, Prince Rui,]

Sheng Ning!

[The palace was filled with fear.]

His Majesty has ordered

General Bai Yi, the Dragon Slayer to return to the capital immediately.

That is all.

General.

The palace is in chaos,

and His Majesty is

summoning you back to the capital now.

[Sheng Ning, the third princess of Yun Sheng]

Announcing the arrival of General Bai Yi, the Dragon Slayer!

Read.

His Majesty has decreed

that the commander's seal be bestowed upon General Bai Yi

who will now lead the military

and have his title changed to Protector of the Kingdom.

Princess Sheng Ning shall also be wed to General Bai Yi

with immediate effect.

The crown prince shall succeed the throne at the age of 16.

Should the Crown Prince or Princess Sheng Ning pass during this period,

the surviving one shall succeed the throne.

That is all.

Dated on the 53rd reigning year of Yun Sheng Dynasty.

Your Majesty.

Father.

-Your Majesty! -Father!

-Your Majesty! -Father!

Your Majesty!

Father!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

[Double-Faced Fox]

Release me!

How brazen you are!

To think you'd dare to tie me up!

Release me, traitors!

Hurry up!

Prince Rui.

Pacing around like this won't help.

You can just defy the imperial decree, save the princess

and elope with her,

or else you can give her your blessings,

forget about the princess

and find another one.

There are many pretty ladies around.

Hey.

See, that one looks good.

Hey, this one too.

Look, she's my type.

You can't just hang up on someone forever.

Shut up, I need peace.

Who's Peace?

Announcing the arrival of General Bai Yi!

Oh dear,

he has even brought his minions.

I think it's game over for you.

Time to let go.

Protect the princess!

So you're the murderer!

General.

Your Highness, you...

Huh?

Cousin.

Letting go of a nice guy like him

is such a waste.

If you don't want him,

I'm keeping him.

Your Highness, you...

It's all your fault.

You should've requested my hand in marriage sooner.

You're a skilful warrior, General.

Are you okay? Are you hurt?

My cousin was just pulling a prank

to entertain herself,

please don't take it to heart.

Why would he be injured?

He's the one who injured everyone here!

Can you even call yourselves imperial guards?

If I waited for you to save me,

I'd be dead by now!

Are you here, Vice General Zuo?

Present.

Fall back.

Noted.

Fall back?

What does that mean?

Oh, perhaps he feels that you're too spoiled and boisterous,

so he's not marrying you.

Thank you.

Handle it with care.

Thank you, General.

-Here. -Thank you.

Yours.

Thank you, General.

Are you really recalling all the imperial guards from the princess's quarters?

Hold on, Princess.

Relax.

If you recall them all,

who will protect the princess?

Relax.

Go there, the rest will follow me!

Yes!

Princess!

Who gave you permission to change my guards?

Are your guards better than my imperial guards?

From today onward,

report the princess's every move to me.

Without my permission,

the princess must not leave her quarters.

-Transgressors will be prosecuted. -You!

Aye!

Relax, relax.

Don't come near me.

I have no inappropriate intentions towards you.

Tomorrow is the late emperor's post-mortem.

You can decide

whether you want to sleep or not.

Shut up, don't try to fool me.

Cousin, what's wrong?

Nothing, I'm just shading my face from the sun.

Let me see.

What's going on?

Cousin!

I stayed up all night.

There's no need to explain.

I understand.

Your Highness.

Please switch your carriage with Prince Rui's.

We shall depart now.

This way, Your Highness.

Go!

Come up with an idea for me.

Otherwise, even if no one killed me,

I'd still die from frustration.

Your Highness,

General Bai is concerned about your safety.

Be it brains or brawn, he's more professional than the rest.

Just put up with him, Your Highness.

Pass the ball!

I'm here, pass it to me!

-Catch! -It's here.

I got it!

Stop horsing around, kids!

Are you okay, son?

Mom.

Are you hurt?

Don't cry.

Mom.

What's going on in front?

Your Highness, you cannot go down.

Attention, soldiers!

Aye!

Move!

Aye!

Stand back!

The Princess is here.

Whoever obstructs her way will be prosecuted!

Aye!

Stand back!

Stand back!

Stand back!

Oh, it's the princess.

I heard two princesses have died,

and Princess Sheng Ning is the only one left.

If something happens to her...

Come on, let's go.

When can you finally act?

Your Highness.

General Bai has been guarding the princess.

There's no room for us to act.

What a useless bunch!

Pardon my incompetence, please calm down, Your Highness!

I shall leave now.

Your Highness, don't fret.

How can I not fret?

As long as the princess is still here,

how can my son rule over the kingdom?

Your Highness, there's no point in worrying.

I shall handle this.

Your Royal Highness.

How is it?

The late emperor didn't die from external forces or poison.

It's just that his health had rapidly deteriorated.

As for the reason behind this,

please pardon my incompetence.

I have neither heard

nor met a case like this.

Impossible.

Have you checked properly?

We have checked numerous times.

Princess, are you satisfied now?

Father, I'm a useless daughter.

I couldn't find your murderer,

causing you to die wrongfully.

I miss you so much.

I really do.

I thought you were capable.

Aren't you the Dragon Slayer,

Protector of the Kingdom?

Why aren't you stepping in

to search for my father's murderer?

Enough, my cousin.

Don't cry.

All you do is bully me.

Your Royal Highness, I have a request.

I hope to seek your approval.

No need for formalities, General Bai, please speak.

It's been seven days since the late emperor passed away.

The demons are still running amok.

May I bring the princess back to my house

to protect her?

What kind of timing is this?

Why are you even thinking about this?

I'm not following you back.

The late emperor had bestowed Princess Sheng Ning to you before he died.

She is now part of your family.

Your request is reasonable,

I approve it.

Thank you for your approval.

Grandmother.

You're throwing me into the fire pit.

Ning,

your father has passed away,

and you are an adult now.

You must prioritize the kingdom all the time

so you won't disappoint your father.

Grandmother.

Go, trust your father's judgment.

Cousin, don't worry.

I'll keep you company.

Will you let me follow, General Bai?

You may.

Thank you, General.

Escort the princess to the general's quarters.

Yes, General.

Go.

[General's Mansion]

This way, Your Highness.

The general has ordered

for this room to be arranged exactly like your original room.

Cousin.

It looks like the late emperor had made a wise choice.

He also said that

you can plan your daily routine

all by yourself.

No one will hinder you,

and no servant will be punished for this.

General, Prince Rui wishes to meet you.

Tell him I'll be there soon.

Yes, General.

General, I know it's late,

pardon my visit.

For you to come at this hour,

I'm sure it must be something crucial.

[If you want to protect Sheng Ning, you must kill Bai Yi]

When did you get this?

Two days ago.

What do you intend to do, Prince Rui?

General, you probably don't know this.

My mother was entrusted by the late emperor

to look after the princess since she was young.

My sister, Bie Jin and the princess

have always lived together.

The princess and I have been childhood sweethearts,

inseparable since childhood.

We thought we could get married,

but the heavens decided otherwise.

The palace is in chaos, and the emperor died.

However, the fact that the princess is married to you now

makes my heart break in agony

and costs me sleepless nights.

Still, what transpired is Heaven's will.

I just hope that you can improve yourself

and protect the princess

so you won't disappoint the late emperor

as well as my feelings towards the princess.

Prince Rui.

What is your impression of Prince Chen Liu?

I met him in a royal banquet when I was young.

I do not know much about him.

Thank you for your information, Prince Rui.

I shall protect the princess.

I'm counting on you.

Your Highness!

Why are you here?

Prince Rui told me to guard you here secretly.

You came at the right time.

Come, let's get out of here.

What? This...

What if General Bai hears about this?

Why are you such a worrywart?

What's with all those what-ifs?

Hurry, let's get out.

-Hurry. -I've heard you're free to come and go.

No need to climb over the wall.

Besides, there's a doggy hole here.

You can use the doggy hole.

Do you actually believe them?

Why would that maniac allow me to come and go as I like?

You are such a fool. Hurry up!

Okay.

Higher.

It's high enough.

Do you need help?

That would be great.

General Bai!

Well, the moon is bright tonight,

so I wanted to admire it up close.

Admire the moon?

Yeah, admire the moon.

This isn't a good spot.

Where else, then?

This is a better spot to look at the moon.

Wow.

Now that's a true expert.

Your Highness.

Thank goodness, I'm fine.

Cousin.

Cousin.

Did you sleep well last night?

Not at all.

I had a nightmare.

I dreamed that he brought me to the rooftop to see the moon.

How is that a nightmare?

Last night, General Bai and you

spent the whole night admiring the moon at the rooftop.

What are you talking about, cousin?

General Bai has also said that

you may move around the quarters freely,

so you don't have to climb over walls.

To think this is for real.

Of course it's real, it's the real deal.

Cousin, haven't you noticed that General Bai

looks rough but acts delicately, acts delicately but remains stern,

remains stern but still gentle, a perfect combination?

He can sure drive a lady crazy.

Since you like him, you can have him.

If I could, I'd take him a long time ago.

I can see that General Bai really cares for you.

Stop that.

I'm frustrated enough.

Fine, I'll stop.

There's a lantern festival tonight.

Let me bring you out to have fun.

That's a wonderful idea!

This place is boring me to death.

It'll be fun.

Your Highness.

What brings you here?

General Bai heard that you're going to the lantern festival,

so he asked me to follow and protect you.

It's so crowded here!

Of course it is.

Where did all these people come from?

Cousin, look!

Over there.

Go.

Wow, it's so beautiful.

Cousin, let's go there.

Great!

-How is it? -Awesome!

Cousin!

-Cousin! -Cousin!

Your Highness!

-Cousin! -Cousin!

Cousin!

-Sheng Ning! -Princess!

-Sheng Ning! -Princess!

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Capture all the traitors!

Aye!

[General's Mansion]

Thanks for saving me just now.

Protecting you is part of my duties.

Don't feel bad about it.

I misunderstood you before this,

I'm sorry about that.

You are my wife.

Even I can't bear to hurt you,

how can I let others harm you?

I'll be more mindful next time.

I won't be so careless.

Rest early.

Sleep tight.

Don't touch your wound while you're asleep.

Who's there?

General, over here!

Take him away.

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

Cousin.

Why are you here?

You scared me.

It's stormy outside.

Why aren't you sleeping

and wandering around instead?

Have you seen Bai Yi?

General Bai is on duty now.

He won't be back soon.

Cousin, thank goodness you're here.

Otherwise, I'd be scared to death alone here.

Don't worry, I'm here.

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

What brings you here?

General Bai has an important task to handle,

so he ordered me to protect you.

Are you fine, Your Highness?

I'm fine.

Luckily, my cousin is here with me.

That's good.

The general isn't here, and the storm is getting stronger.

Please be careful.

Noted.

General.

Could this be...

Wei Huo Hu.

Wei Huo Hu?

Do you mean General Wei Huo Hu, the Tiger Slayer?

But ever since he

disappeared from the gallows

after raping and murdering Concubine Yu,

he's been missing for three years.

Why would he suddenly appear here?

The assassin who attacked princess whom I killed that day

was Wei Huo Hu's brother, Ji Shui Bao.

He's here for revenge?

Looks like it's not as simple as revenge.

General.

Go, go!

Go!

Vice General.

General.

Pass my orders down.

Tighten our security within a radius of 500 meters.

Station more secret soldiers.

Aye.

Where did you go last night?

I'm a bit scared of thunder.

There's a military emergency.

I went to handle it.

Well, if there's thunder next time,

can you stay by my side?

Sure.

Thank you for everything you've done for me.

Even this garden is the same as the one in my palace quarters.

Don't let go or else I'd get scared.

[Moonheart Vixen] [A 1000-year old vixen spirit]

General.

I've prepared some top-grade jasmine tea for you.

Thank you.

You may not know this,

but I've been all alone since I was young.

No one cared for me.

Ever since I witnessed your gallantry,

I have found myself swooned.

Would you like to take me in as your concubine

so I can have a place to call home

and serve you?

The princess was bestowed to me by the late emperor.

I dare not harbour other thoughts.

You put it too harshly, General.

The princess is my kin and kith.

We grew up together.

She won't reject this.

As long as you agree,

I can do anything for you.

Ah!

Where's the princess?

Taking a bath.

Ah!

Pardon me.

Why did you scream, Your Highness?

Here.

There's a cockroach here.

Take it away.

Cousin, you...

She's not your cousin.

She's a moonheart vixen.

What's a moonheart vixen?

She's from the 5th mansion of Mansion 7 in the east constellations.

A vixen with a heart of fire.

[Moonheart Vixen] A vixen with a heart of fire.

[Moonheart Vixen]

She possesses a body by consuming its soul.

Your cousin's soul was consumed a long time ago.

What a discerning eye, General.

You always see through us women.

Why did you kill my cousin?

You just wanted to kill me, didn't you?

You've been beside me for so long.

Why didn't you act earlier?

Her target isn't you, it's me.

[If you want to protect Sheng Ning, you must kill Bai Yi] Her target isn't you, it's me.

[If you want to protect Sheng Ning, you must kill Bai Yi]

I knew I loved the right person.

Since you think so highly of me,

let me serve you.

General Bai!

Take her down!

Long time no see, puny general.

You have committed a heinous crime

and should be reflecting on yourself. Why are you harming the kingdom?

The winner takes all, the loser stands small.

I am indebted to Prince Chen Liu for saving me.

I must repay him.

Prince Chen Liu deceived everyone

and had his own army while colluding with the Grand Secretariat.

He worked with the enemy to usurp the throne.

As a general of this kingdom,

how dare you act so brazenly?

I don't care who the emperor is.

I just want to know who's going to pay

for my brother's life!

You?

Or you?

Or her?

Ji Shui Bao was a wicked man

who tried to assassinate the princess.

I have no choice but to kill him.

If someone has to pay, that would be me.

Good, I'll take your life today!

A lovestruck prince, I see.

Are you sacrificing your kingdom for a lady?

I never said I wanted the kingdom.

Prince Rui's biological father

is none other than the rebellious Prince Chen Liu.

You knew who I am?

Back when the princess was almost assassinated,

if it weren't because of

your timely interference,

the princess would probably be dead now.

Meanwhile, the moonheart vixen has been staying beside the princess.

If it weren't for Prince Rui's refusal to work with her,

I'm afraid that before I could get to meet the princess,

she would have been dead.

Looks like

no one can hide anything from you.

So you are Prince Chen Liu's son.

It's not what you think.

It is not what you think.

Prince Rui knew it all along that

the Grand Secretariat and the empress have been colluding with Prince Chen Liu.

First, they killed the late emperor with sorcery.

Then, they'll strip the Crown Prince of his title

and instate Prince Chen Liu as emperor,

while Prince Rui will be the Crown Prince.

But no parents can bear to harm their children.

Why would the empress kill her own son?

The empress is no longer in this world.

The current empress is just a shell.

Her soul was consumed by the moonheart vixen's sister, the ghostly golden ewe.

Your Majesty!

Prince Rui, I told you to listen to me,

but you wouldn't.

Now you're just throwing good money after bad.

Shut up!

You have no right to meddle in my affairs.

It was my father who wanted to be emperor,

not me!

Sigh, another sentimental man.

Oh well,

I guess it's my job to get rid of you.

Why would it be you?

Bai Yi.

Bai Yi.

General Bai!

Bai Yi!

General!

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

Don't frighten me, Bai Yi.

You can't leave me.

You know that

I'm scared of the thunder.

You said you'll stay by my side.

Don't cry.

Dying in your arms

is the best way I could think of to die.

I've always forgotten to tell you this.

Actually, I love your face the most.

When the ginkgo flowers bloom all over the mountain,

we will meet again.

No!

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

♫ Sufferings make us stronger ♫

♫ No need to fear the frost ♫

♫ Not every journey of love ♫

♫ can continue till the end ♫

♫ Why surrender to hold on to the past? ♫

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

Don't leave me!

Bai Yi!

Bai Yi!

[In the 54th year of Yun Sheng Dynasty,]

[with the support of the empress dowager,]

[the Crown Prince ascended the throne early.]

[The officials pledged loyalty to him, and peace returned to the palace.]

[However, Princess Sheng Ning has never appeared in the palace again.]

[It is said that]

[someone has seen the princess at the summit of Mount Long.]

Miss.

Why were you in the water, miss?

Miss.

Miss!
