say first of all like i haven't said

of season one of the chosen if you've

seen it already don't give it too many

or say spoiler alert before you say

something um and if you haven't

just want to let you know yes this is a

jesus show but when you don't see jesus

for a little while on episode 1 don't

get too scared

don't think i thought this was a jesus

show okay yes this is a jesus show

but jesus doesn't show up until near the

end of episode one and when he does i

promise you it's gonna be worth it it's

gonna be great

but episode one of this show is designed

to be a setup and you have to kind of

see some of the

struggles that people are going through

if you don't go through some of the

struggles with them then the victories

uh don't mean as much they're not as

impactful if you don't

identify with their questions you're not

going to identify with the answer

if you don't identify with and connect

with their problems you're not going to

identify with a solution

so watch this episode like you would the

episode the first episode of any other

show

okay when you sit down to watch the

first episode of a new show you don't

always know who the characters are yet

you don't understand all the settings or

the story lines yet

together and i hope that

if you stuck with it through that

episode and some stuck

through some of the pain and some of the

you know i mean i mean we've got a

character who's suicidal a woman who's

been uh you know hiding her identity and

changing her identity because she wants

to rid herself of her past

and jesus calls her by name and uh

and and claims her and says you are mine

and uh

you know it's it i've seen it so many

times it gets me every single time

the performance um the beauty of what

what it says

it just really it really hits me and um

so

i hope that you were able to identify

with at least one of the characters

um and you know whether it's simon who's

struggling with deep debt

and confused about what he's supposed to

do and desperate to do whatever it takes

even if it's

sin he's going to protect his family and

his livelihood

and um nicodemus who's knows the bible

but is struggling

with how it's being executed and how

people are acting with it

and uh is interested in potentially

knowing more and is confused by his own

struggles with it

and um you know there's of course uh

lilith

you know who is at the lowest point

possible

and maybe you identify with her maybe

you identify with matthew the tax

collector who's an outsider no one likes

him

possibly because you know partially for

partially for good reason

you know he's betrayed his people um but

anyway

uh hopefully you'll you identified with

them so you can also identify with

the answer that jesus provided with mary

all right so before we get into episode

two episode two is coming

in just a few moments i wanted to tell

you about this bible study okay

so the reason that i want to tell you

about it is because

if you've if you just saw episode one

for the first time or if you've seen

season one

before you want to dig deeper

this this is really the perfect

item because it's called what what does

it mean to be chosen

it was written by my wife and me and dr

doug huffman who is

our uh official you know bible

scholar consultant we've got a couple

others too that help us out but he's

our evangelical uh primarily specializes

in the new testament but as you'll see

in this book

it's the weaving of the old testament

with the new testament and the reason

i'm mentioning to you now

is because it's rooted in isaiah 43

which is what is quoted at the end

um and the beginning of episode one um

where

uh he quotes isaiah 43 and so we talk

about

isaiah 43 and so this bible study has

maps and timelines you're gonna get a

whole it says even

you know meet the mains talking about

the main character so we introduce you

to

uh the backstory of those people so this

is this this is where if you want to dig

deeper if you want to learn more about

the gospel stories

if you want to dig deeper than just the

stories in the show

this is this includes quotes from the

show it just really allows you to do

deeper it's an interactive bible study

you can do it by yourself

or the best way is to do it with groups

so you watch the show together and then

you answer questions you dig in deep

it even you know look we've got these

things this is it's called the sin cycle

and it talks about

the pattern of the israelites in the old

testament and how that matches with us

today

and uh so what it really does is it

allows you to interpret

what we're talking about in the show

even more than just the show can

so uh what does it mean to be chosen

you're going to get it at the chosen

a cliffhanger

this is when we start to become a real

at the the beautiful place and this is

where the big the rich

the high and the mighty show up um and

uh which one does jesus go to he goes to

mary's

and then of course we're now seeing

matthew at his low point

uh eating shabbat dinner with a dog not

but what am i wearing my favorite line

in the whole show

we're now into season two and i'm still

this is my favorite line so far

fish going this way and now i'm

completely different

teal fish going the other way and the

thing that happened in between was him

and it's in the shape of a cross of
