But really, it was just my
family getting back on track,

which is all I ever wanted.

But you gotta be careful
what you wish for,

take the craziest,

most insane way
to get you there.

Maybe even the greatest
adventure of your life.

[lighthearted music]

Echo Harbor was a
great place to be,

and do everything family.

But Main Street fell
apart, literally.

The population aged, and when
kids went away to college,

they never came back.

So, dad rolled up his
sleeves and ran for Mayor.

It was so exciting.

He was gonna make a difference,

and give everybody
hope and reason to stay

in what I once thought
was the best place

in the world to grow up.

And he won!

It felt like a victory
for our whole family.

Everything that was
wrong in Echo Harbor

would get fixed,
thanks to my dad.

And life would be
even better now.

[lighthearted music]
[clapping]

But the job of being Mayor,

trying to make everyone
happy consumed my dad.

Totally stressed him out,

which then stressed my mom out,

and then even me.

We became like so many
families today, broken.

It really made me sad.

Even sadder than
when my grandma died.

He told me it
wouldn't be forever,

he just had to figure
some things out.

So, dad moved in with grandpa,

which looking back, was probably
a nice thing for grandpa,

because of grandma.

But I was suffering.

Our family was suffering.

And I knew that something
needed to be done.

[dramatic music]

[lighthearted music]

[car beeps]

- Mary, Jess is here!

- Gotta go.

- Okay, great.

I've successfully avoided
for the last four years.

That's what's going

light projection show.

You see, I figured out this way

to beam up our senior class
message into the cosmos.

Nobody goes down there anymore.

We got the last
investor in place

for the mall in Port Byron,

we break ground in January.

- Well, that's lovely
for Port Byron,

meanwhile, Echo harbor is dying.

- Port Byron's on a freeway.

We don't want a mall here,

it would take over downtown.

But guess what?

We're gonna get
all that overflow.

- Wow, that settles it.

Dad gets his mall,
we get the overflow,

gamps looks better bald, and
mom looks fantastic as usual.

- And you are finally 18.

And you know what that means?

- First thing I thought
when I woke up this morning.

I mean, you've
taken this old place

and turned into
something really cool,

so props for that, but in
case you haven't noticed,

we're kinda nobody anymore,
sort of off the radar.

So, going back to
what I just said,

I think I know who I
am, I'm a restorer.

I value history, and
the people and places

that are part of that.

I also see the opportunity
that comes with that.

I like to fix things
up, turn them around.

When I first came here, I
fell in love with Echo Harbor

and this building,

although I suspect both
had seen better days.

- That's being generous.

- But my gut said, "buy
it, give it some love

and a new life."

And voila, here we are.

and I see so much
potential and opportunity,

but it just doesn't
make financial sense.

So now, he's on a list.

He has to fix it or get out.

And that requires money that
he doesn't have anymore,

because he was just doing
what he thought was best.

The same goes for
so many other stores

up and down the street.

I went out on the street

and actually talked
with the people.

You know, there isn't any law

against the mayor
