(Dancing Angel)

(Dancing Angel)

(Phra That Kham Kaen)

(Khon Kaen, 1998)

(Annual Religious Ceremony) at Phra That Kham Kaen)

Ten fingers interlocked, raised above my head,

along with offerings.

Allow me to tell this story

in traditional mor lam.

It's the origin

of our old custom.

Let me tell the story

the way it's been passed down.

The Legend of Khon Kaen or Khon City

begins when Lord Lhang Kiaw built this city.

He brought Buddha's relics

in hopes of keeping them at Phra That Phanom.

On the way, he stopped to take a rest.

He spotted a tamarind tree in the middle of the forest

and found it suitable for sheltering under.

There was a dead tamarind tree with only the stump left.

It was perfect for placing the relics.

He left them on the tree stump.

The story then cuts to the right part.

When he arrived at Phra That Phanom,

he saw that it was nicely built

and flawlessly completed.

There was nothing else he could add to it.

He unwillingly went back the same path

and saw that the dead tamarind tree stump

had become a healthy tree.

Lord Lhang Kiaw asked his friends

to build a pagoda over the tamarind tree,

and stored Buddha's relics there.

(Phra That Kham Kaen)

He settled at that place.

People gathered here from all over the place

and called Phra That Kham Kaen,

the historical landmark

of Khon Kaen.

Today I bring my wife and daughter

to pray for protection from Phra That Kham Kaen.

May you

protect

my wife, my daughter, and myself

from all danger and harm

and bestow upon us a happy and peaceful life.

Sathu.

(Annual Religious Ceremony) at Phra That Kham Kaen)

It seems like

it's about to rain.

I must bid you farewell.

We will come back and perform for you next time.

Thank you very much.

I think we should head back to our place, Pimpa.

The baby might get sick from the rain.

- That's true. - Let's go.

(Annual Religious Ceremony) at Phra That Kham Kaen)

Let's go.

How is it? Is it done?

Almost.

Hey! Hey!

Hey!

What are you doing?

Who are you? Hey!

Hey! Come out!

What are you doing?

What are you doing to my car? Come out now!

Come out!

Come out now!

Are you done?

It's done.

Drag him away.

Yes, sir.

Where is Wittaya?

Wittaya?

- Dear, - Wittaya?

- give her to me. - Oh, okay.

Wittaya?

Oh?

What's this?

Where are you?

Wittaya!

Wittaya!

Mister.

You're Mr. Kasem, right?

Yes. What's the matter?

A man asked me to bring you this key.

Do you know where he went?

He said he's going to see his friends.

You can leave without him.

What is this?

Why is he so irresponsible?

It's okay.

There's no point getting angry over this.

Let's hurry back.

It'll rain soon.

- Let's go. - All right.

What is this?

He didn't even tell us before he left.

Take a seat.

Unbelievable.

Hurry up and follow them. You can leave him here.

Yes, sir.

Overtake them!

What?

- Pim. - Yes?

What? What's going on?

Hold on to the baby. Don't let her go no matter what.

Cut them off!

No!

No!

Ouch!

Pull over!

Where's my daughter?

Where's my daughter?

Watch out!

Somebody's coming! We have to go!

Phra That Kham Kaen,

please...

save my daughter. Please keep her safe.

Oh, my.

You're here.

Help!

Please help!

Ah!

Pull over!

Pull over! Go check it out!

Is that a person?

- Buala, be careful. - Let's go.

Take care of Buala.

Buala.

Go and have a look.

Mister?

Is he still breathing?

Yes, he is.

Let's take him to the hospital.

Come on. Let's go.

Come on.

Steady, steady.

Let's go. Carry him to the car.

Do you think there are frogs and toads around here?

Don't worry about it.

- I can find anything to eat. - Is that so?

I just want enough frogs and fish for the curry.

- Right, that would be nice. - My goodness.

What's that?

A body!

My goodness.

Come on.

Let's go take a look.

Oh, my.

- Who is she? - Where did she come from?

Oh, gosh.

Be careful.

It's blood!

Baby...

My goodness.

She's still alive.

Ma'am?

Ma'am?

Can you hear me?

Ma'am?

A baby?

What?

Whose baby is this?

What is she doing here?

Oh dear.

(House of Mor Lam Buala Srisalai)

Regarding the accident of Mr. Kasem Pattanapongsan,

the owner of Ruang Khao Company,

who swerved off the road in Khon Kaen Province.

He has now been transferred to a hospital in Bangkok.

However, he has not regained consciousness.

Ms. Pimpa, his wife

and his infant daughter

who fell into River Phong

are still missing.

Buala,

was it the person who we saved last night?

Dear God,

I hope they find his wife and daughter.

They won't find them.

It rained so heavily last night.

River Phong was also raging.

They both fell into the river. I bet they're dead.

Gosh.

Ramphueng! Watch your mouth!

Your baby is around the same age as his.

Have some sympathy.

I do feel sorry for them, Buala.

But think about it.

They fell into River Phong.

If there's anything left of them,

it'll probably be corpses.

If they aren't dead, you can step on my mouth.

May Phra That Kham Kaen

protect Mr. Kasem, his wife and child

from any harm.

So I can step on her foul mouth.

You forced me to do this.

I've sent people to search for Pimpa and the child.

Make sure you find their dead bodies.

Oh, dear.

Are you really that sad

that you couldn't get up and go save your wife and daughter?

If you're sad,

you can follow them to hell.

That way, your money will be mine and my child's.

Who's the father?

You and I haven't slept together for years.

The baby inside you is definitely not mine!

Who's the father?

Who are you having an affair with?

Before asking me who I'm having an affair with,

why don't you ask yourself

- who made me become like this? - Don't you blame me, Duen.

What you did is adultery.

Then, what would you call a man with two wives?

Don't you turn this around on me.

I've always been in love with Pimpa.

What happened between us was a mistake.

That day you deliberately got me drunk,

so I would sleep with you.

You should be thankful Pimpa didn't want to go after you.

She was the one who told me to make you my wife.

Enough!

Stop praising her in front of me!

What you're doing is also adultery.

There is no difference.

Get my lawyer to come see me immediately tomorrow.

I'm breaking up with Duen.

What happened?

You don't have to know.

Just get me my lawyer.

Even if she's not my lawfully wedded wife,

she's always helped me with work.

I'll give her a share of my wealth.

Then, I'll have her resign from the company.

I will finally be able to register my marriage with Pimpa.

Is Ms. Duen going to accept that?

She has to.

But, don't tell anyone yet.

I don't want people to talk about this.

Understood, sir.

You think I'll go without putting up a fight?

You're wrong.

(Khon Kaen Regional Hospital)

Calm down.

Please calm down.

Easy there.

No! Bring me my baby!

Where's my baby?

My baby!

My baby, my baby.

My baby... baby...

Baby...

I feel sorry for her.

Her face is full of deep gashes

to the point that she's unrecognizable.

She's also hysterical.

Our duty is to treat her injuries so they'll heal as soon as possible.

Then, she can be transferred to a psychiatric hospital.

By the way, has there been any contact from her relatives?

Not yet, Doctor.

We've already informed the police.

Good.

I'm coming.

You're so impatient.

There, there.

Whose daughter are you?

You're so lovely.

Have some milk.

Regarding the accident of Mr. Kasem Pattanapongsan,

the owner of Ruang Khao Company, who swerved off the road,

causing two other people to go missing in the Phong river.

Those two are Ms. Pimpa and their one-week-old daughter.

The baby is wearing a gold necklace

with a lotus-shaped pendant.

Baby?

Oh, my.

Gold necklace with a lotus pendant.

If you have seen them, please call

01-146-

5619

Yes, I can confirm.

There's a gold necklace with a lotus pendant around the baby's neck.

Thank you.

I'll go pick up the baby as soon as I can tomorrow.

Can you tell me your address?

Okay.

A woman from Nam Phong District has found Pimpa's daughter.

Is the baby dead?

No, she isn't

What?

She's still alive after falling into the river?

Should I just handle this myself?

There, there.

Don't cry, sweetie.

Someone's going to come pick you up.

All right. Here's your necklace.

Hello. My name is Uthai.

You called me yesterday.

Oh, right.

The thing is

I don't know what's up with her.

She won't stop crying.

Give the baby to us.

Please, bring my niece to me. I'll take her to the doctor.

What's wrong, sweetie?

Oh!

Let go.

Thank you. This is for all your help.

Please accept it.

Uthai, pull over before the bridge.

Stop right here.

Fate has saved your life.

But I'll be the one to destroy it.

Hello?

Okay. I'll be there.

What is it, Uthai?

My people reported that a woman similar to Pimpa

was transferred to Khon Kaen Hospital.

That means both the mother and daughter survived.

I'll get rid of them with my own hands.

Come on, Uthai.

Let's go to the hospital.

We must get rid of that bitch, Pimpa.

Come!

Sweetie!

You're going to be all right.

Oh no, you're barely breathing.

What should I do?

I can't take you to the hospital.

If those evil people see you,

they'll try to kill you again.

What should I do?

Buala.

Look!

Who's that?

It's Thongbai.

It's really her.

Thongbai!

What are you doing here?

I'm here to see...

- No! - No!

Let go. Why are you stopping me?

She's holding a child. Look!

I'll chase her away.

- Gosh. - Go back to where you came from.

Rampueng! Rampueng!

What's going on?

Stop right now!

Stop, stop!

- What's wrong? - Stop!

- Stop! Stop! Stop! - I said stop!

Buala,

I'm here to ask for your help.

Thongbai!

You brazen hussy!

You broke the rule of mor lam.

How dare you come here and ask for her help?

Go away!

Rampueng, stop!

Shut your mouth!

What's the matter with you?

Thongbai!

Thongbai, let's talk inside.

Yes, ma'am.

Thongbai!

Don't touch me!

Let me go!

- I hate her! - What's your problem?

What's up with her?

And who is she?

Why does Rampueng hate her so much?

Rampueng and Thongbai were

Buala's students in the same year.

Thongbai was much better at mor lam. Everybody loved her.

I see.

But, she eloped with a guy and got pregnant.

The guy ended up tricking her into getting an abortion

and broke the rule of mor lam.

So Buala forbade her from performing on stage again.

Now I get it.

Now that she's back, Rampueng is scared she'll take her position.

You're right.

- Gosh. - For goodness' sake.

What are you guys talking here for?

Let's go take a look if Buala can help Thongbai.

Come on, hurry.

Let's go.

(House of Mor Lam Buala Srisalai)

How do you want me to help, Thongbai?

The thing is, this baby...

I mean, my daughter.

She's unwell.

If she's unwell, why don't you take her to the hospital?

I already did.

But, no matter how hard the doctor tried, she wouldn't get better.

If the doctor couldn't do it,

how can Buala help, Thongbai?

Buala,

please find a way to help her.

I feel so sorry for her.

If you're not going to do it for me, please do it for the baby.

Buala,

don't listen to her.

She hurt your feelings once.

If you help her,

she's going to hurt you agian.

My ears are bleeding!

Shut your trap!

I feel sorry for her.

Please help her.

Don't listen to her.

Buala.

(Khon Kaen Regional Hospital)

The police reported that

some locals found an unconscious woman on the bank of Phong River.

They took her to Nam Phong Hospital.

Then, they transferred her to Khon Kaen Hospital.

I think it's definitely Pimpa.

My goodness.

No.

Ms. Duen.

Watch where you're going!

- Let go. Let go of her! - Help! Help!

- Let her go now! - Help me!

Help me! Help me!

Help me!

Please hold the patient!

Please hold her!

I'm okay.

Are you all right?

I'm okay.

Let's go.

Excuse me,

I'm here to see the patient with no relative,

who was transferred from Nam Phong Hospital.

I'm terribly sorry.

The patient became hysterical

and ran out of the room just now.

Our people are searching for her now.

My goodness.

Help me! Help me!

Doctor,

have you seen her face?

Was it her?

There's a big, deep gash on her face.

I can't tell

if she's this woman or not.

(House of Mor Lam Buala Srisalai)

Rampueng, what is he doing?

His name is Song.

If there's someone sick at our place

they'll call Mor Lam Song over

to communicate with the spirits

and find out which spirit that person offended.

Farm spirit,

ancestor spirits,

water spirit,

or field spirit.

When we know which spirit it is,

they can ask for forgiveness

and repent for their mistakes.

- I see. - Right.

See?

Sathu.

Please,

I'd like to invite

the angels of Phi Fa from the far away land.

Ride your black horse.

Hold its reins and visit the land of humans.

When you arrive, feel her body.

The baby is sick and feverish.

It's not the farm spirit,

not the field spirit,

and not the sibling spirits.

The sibling spirits cannot touch her.

Phi Fa said to use him as the symbolic image.

He'll support her, protect her from bad things.

Please forgive her.

Thongbai's daughter

is staying so still.

Will he be able to help her?

I don't think she will survive.

Thongbai is a bad person.

No angel can help her.

How could you say that?

Hey.

Forgive her.

Please.

Who are you?

You didn't tell me what you've done.

You didn't even call me when you were feasting.

It can't be forgiven.

Huh?

Sathu.

Come on. Let's have some fun.

Right. That's it.

Yes.

Let's have some fun.

Buala!

She's awake!

She's awake.

She's awake.

Come on. Faster.

Right.

Let's go.

That's it.

There. She's smiling ear to ear.

From now on,

only make merits.

Follow the Five Precepts.

Don't commit any sin.

Okay?

There.

The more I look,

the more I see that

she has a great destiny

and a great fortune.

But,

she will face a severe hardship

when she's 22 years old.

I name you Boonraksa, my daughter.

Oh, my goodness.

- My child. - Let go.

- Let go. - Give her to me.
