Sunshine of My Life

Episode 29

I win.

Look at you.

Since we were little, you've never improved.

Xiaoyu, can't you let me win a bit?

You're playing so badly. How can I let you win?

My goodness, look at you girls.

Girls?

Who else?

It's late.

You must rest.

I have to go.

Xiaoyu.

Don't change the subject.

Are you in love?

Who told you that I was in love?

Yourself.

Did I mention that?

Why don't I remember?

You're obviously feeling guilty.

Is it that girl you drew?

Tell me about her.

You obviously have a girlfriend.

Why won't you let me meet her?

Her?

She might never forgive me.

Wh... Why?

Why won't she forgive you?

Nothing.

She has a boyfriend now.

Go to bed.

Have a good rest. Don't catch a cold. I'll get going.

Xiaoyu.

I want to drink orange juice.

It's the middle of the night. Why drink orange juice?

I just want to.

You're always so impulsive.

Go and buy it for me.

Fine, wait for me.

Do you still remember

if they said Qianqian was in room 316 or 318?

Let me ask.

Excuse me.

Which room is Ms. Fang in?

318, over there.

Okay, thank you.

Dad.

Dad, why did you come to Shanghai?

Dad.

I... I finally see you again.

You scared me.

I'm sorry.

I thought... I thought you were gone.

I'm sorry.

Where... Where exactly did you go?

You didn't even call home.

Dad, I'm sorry.

I became a liaison officer for World Without Borders.

That place has no communication facility in place.

So I wasn't intentionally hiding from you.

You haven't told me,

why did you come to Shanghai?

I flew over once I receive the news.

Does... Does it hurt?

Does it feel uncomfortable? Sit down.

Baby, tell me.

Does... Does it hurt?

Does it feel uncomfortable?

It doesn't hurt at all.

Sit down, Dad.

They said that you were sick.

Tell... Tell me, where does it hurt?

No, Dad. I'm great.

Did you take good care of yourself?

Your blood pressure is so high.

Oh, right.

You haven't told me yet.

Where... Where does it hurt?

I know how to measure blood pressure now, Dad.

Come on.

You came here so hurriedly.

Your blood pressure must be very high.

Don't move.

They say daughters are the sweetest.

Qianqian is sick herself,

yet she's still worried about you.

Relax.

Don't move.

Okay.

Don't move.

Okay.

Dad, don't move. Look.

You didn't take good care of yourself again.

-What did you promise me? -I'm fine.

I'm fine.

As for you,

you...

It's so good to see you.

I'm sorry.

All right.

It's good that you're back.

Braised beef noodles,

tomato and orange juice. Are you sure you don't want anything else?

That's all.

Fei, get me a bag of potato chips.

Why are you here?

Answer him.

Why are you here?

I couldn't sleep, so I came to visit you.

I'm going to the supermarket. Do you want to come with me?

If it's this way,

we can walk like this.

But if it's the same direction, it will be strange.

As long as you like it.

Your brother is quite immature.

It's so late, and he let you go out to buy stuff yourself.

Because I'm on duty tonight.

On duty?

Our family has duty schedules in doing household chores.

I happen to be on duty today.

Since I was little, my mom would never take care of me more

just because I'm a girl.

She also wouldn't favor my brother

just because he's younger than me.

Your mom is quite wise.

At our home, because my cousin

is a girl and she's younger than me,

she can do

whatever she wants at home now.

So since you were little,

you have never favored her more because of that, right?

That's why she's not that close to me.

But she quite likes Fang Xiaoyu.

Because he always spoils her.

Didn't we agree that we wouldn't mention him anymore?

Time really flies.

In the blink of an eye, my holiday is half gone already.

Have you confirmed when you're returning to Paris yet?

Not yet.

But why don't you feel sad at all?

Why would I be sad?

Because

if everything goes smoothly,

I'll often visit you in France in the future.

Really?

Yes.

There's hope for the acquisition?

Now, it looks promising.

Because Mia already agreed

to come to Shanghai and attend

the Iridescent Clouds and Mist Product Launch.

That's great.

Anything I can help you with?

As a talented designer,

you must showcase your talent as much as you can.

As my girlfriend,

there are many areas

that you can help me with.

What... What are you thinking about?

You don't understand?

I don't.

I don't understand.

You don't understand?

Do you think I should do a design

with Chinese cuisine as the theme

and use xiaolongbao to make a wedding dress?

Duoduo surely won't wear it.

No, think about it.

If Duoduo wears xiaolongbao,

won't that be very interesting?

It will be interesting,

but you won't be able to find a wife in this lifetime.

You girls don't know the romanticness of guys.

You guys don't know what girls are thinking.

Xiaolongbao as a wedding dress?

I'm going to Suzhou this afternoon.

You're going this afternoon?

Remember to confirm the design sketch,

and discuss it with the embroiderers well.

Thank you.

For what?

If not for you, I would have gotten wet earlier, right?

That's how it is.

Are you going to Suzhou?

Yes.

Why?

I'm going to check the construction site

and visit your teacher as well.

What about you?

I'm also going to Suzhou to find my teacher.

I keep feeling that Water Color is lacking that charm.

That's why I want to go to my teacher and discuss it with her.

Of course,

if I have time, I can collect local materials too.

What do you think Water Color is lacking now?

I think

that it lacks something eye-catching

and a sense of movement.

So you want to use Suzhou embroidery to do that.

How long can you stay this time?

Not long.

After my vacation is over, I'm going back to class.

Look at you, you've grown thinner.

Are you having a hard time with your studies?

Ms. Li, my face is so round now.

You

always complain that you're fat no matter how thin you are.

Are you used to eating French food?

I cook my own food, Ms. Li.

You know that.

I know. I know that you're capable.

Right, look whose student I am?

My student

is a sweet talker. I know that.

Ms. Li, you know what?

I even used Suzhou embroidery in France once

and showed off.

Is that so?

Those international designers

love all sorts of Chinese embroidery.

They love it so much.

Of course.

The treasures

that our ancestors passed on from generations to generations

are incredible, of course.

Ms. Li, you want these two colors?

Yes, that's right.

Add one more stitch here.

I'll pour some tea for you, Ms. Li.

Have some tea, Ms. Li.

Thank you.

I came this time

to seek some advice

on how I can

use such a great thing even better.

And you said that you came to visit me.

Isn't it because of Mr. Tang's company?

You're also aware

that I'm a temporary assistant in his company now.

At work,

I always encounter some problems.

What's the problem? Tell me about it.

The theme of this season's designs for Songtang

is Water Color.

I'm planning

to use Suzhou embroidery to make a few unique accessories

to pair them with the clothing.

My current idea

is that aside from the belt and accessory,

the entire clothing will use plain colors.

You can't find a place to start, right?

I found many drawings.

I think these flowers and plants are too tacky.

The twelve zodiac signs aren't appropriate either.

Fortune, prosperity and longevity are too old-fashioned.

Ms. Li, what do you think about carp?

Carp?

That will work.

Don't you youngsters

love forwarding carps to seek good luck?

That's a good idea.

But even if the carp is quite simple,

making it look lively

is very hard.

It's not easy indeed.

However,

you can use the stitching method of Kelin stitch.

Based on the width of the scale pattern,

make a horizontal stitch,

then

use a short stitch to make a triangle on the horizontal stitch.

Then use a short stitch

with symmetrical and equal distance

to make the scale pattern.

For the eyes,

use the knot stitch.

That will look more three-dimensional.

Use the back stitch for the aquatic plant embellishments.

This way, you can tuck in the stitch

and extend it as you please.

Ms. Li, you're so incredible.

You immediately enlightened me.

The scales embroidered this way will be glossy.

It will surely reflect light.

Thank you, Ms. Li.

I'll try it at once later.

Sure, try it later.

Ms. Li, there's another thing I want to tell you.

Go ahead.

Mr. Tang is waiting for you at the office.

Mr. Tang?

Why didn't you tell me sooner?

I just wanted to chat longer with you.

Come on.

From now on, you can just call me

regarding any concerns in the embroidery workshop, Mr. Tang.

I'll surely pay attention

to Mingyuan's business.

I mainly wanted to come and visit you.

The work

might get harder and harder on you.

That's nothing.

If I can make more youngsters see

and like these things,

that will be meaningful.

For the first batch of sketches that Ms. Xia sent,

I've already made a few embroidery items.

Since you're here,

want to see how they look?

Sure.

I just noticed that your sandals today

are as cute as you.

Ms. Li is here.

Come on.

Take a look.

It's very nice.

I was even worried before

that it would be hard to present the fluidity that Ms. Xia was requesting.

We spent a lot of time and effort on this indeed.

In the end, among the similar colors,

we added a lighter color thread.

That was how it achieved its glossy feel.

Very nice. Thank you for your hard work.

You're being too shy.

This is what I like to do.

No matter what problem you encounter in the future,

just tell me at once. I'll resolve it.

Thank you.

Why are you sweating again?

Ms. Li is here.

Ms. Li is an experienced person. What are you afraid of?

It's embarrassing.

Do you want to look at another one?

In this pavilion,

I'm planning to replace the chairs with more comfortable ones.

Receiving Pavilion When the embroiderers become tired from work,

they can sit and get some air here.

Also, I'm planning to build

three exhibition halls here.

One of them

is Ms. Li's personal embroidery exhibit.

The other one

will contain all the embroidery items

in her collection.

And the other one can be

your teacher's classroom.

Do you think anything else is missing?

I think

that you're very thoughtful.

Do you feel very happy then?

So-so.

Why can't you feel contented?

You... You poked me again.

Thank you.

For what?

By the way, how's your collection of materials going? I'll go with you.

Aren't you here to supervise the construction?

Iridescent Clouds and Mist

is a very important project in the company.

And you're one of the designers.

So helping you collect materials is part of my job.

Besides,

I must supervise you.

It's surely not a good thing to be supervised by you.

It's a very romantic thing.

I walked around with you for so long.

Did you get any inspiration?

Are you planning to just slack off and have a date with me?

You've accompanied me

for so long and didn't complain about being tired.

Are you planning to let me treat you to some hairy crabs?

Will you buy me some then?

It depends on your performance.

What do you want me to do?

You must think about that yourself.

Inspiration

isn't something that you can get when you want it.

Innovation

is the process of constantly having personal breakthroughs.

In the process of innovation,

there's no absolute satisfaction.

If you feel that,

it's just for a moment or a period of time.

What do you think

your biggest problem is now?

This time, Water Color uses

the two minimalist colors of black and white as the main colors.

Then through the splash ink technique,

we let those two colors blend together.

But I keep feeling

that it's lacking a bit of charm.

My instinct tells me that the problem lies

in the white color.

Because the white color can pair itself

to any item.

For example,

light feathers,

white snow,

soft clouds.

Those give people the visual of the white color.

I remember that a scholar once thought

that the white color in Oracle bone script and ancient bone inscriptions

was like the sun, which is very hot.

The reeds by the river are green, the white dew turns to frost.

Green reeds and frosted dew

reflect the scenery in the water.

The stream water runs clear.

The surging river keeps beating

on the rocks in the water.

The color of the rocks becomes translucent.

White color is the color of light.

It's power, it accumulates much and releases little.

It's the power that makes constant dripping water break rocks.

Thank you. Thank you for giving me inspiration.

I finally know what Water Color lacks.

Thank you.

I want to write it down.

How can you just say thank you?

Then... Then I'll treat you to hairy crabs.

I've already eaten some last night.

Then... What do you want me to do?

Any other ways to thank me?

Other ways?

Let me think.

I'm innovating.

We've walked around too long. I'm so exhausted.

I don't even get a reward.

I'm so sad.

I'm so down.

What are you doing?

You're not even showing me your appreciation.

Did you see Ms. Xia this morning?

No. What's the matter?

She came here wearing such high heels,

Who?

Who else other than Mo Fei?

Didn't Mo Fei go to Suzhou?

I heard Mr. Tang went there too.

Really?

Yes.

Shen Jiaxi saw them herself.

She got into Mr. Tang's car.

They went together.

And she said she went to collect materials.

She pretended to be decent,

but she was using her job for personal gain.

Ms. Xia has met a strong rival.

I thought

you'd be staying in Suzhou longer.

I came back after doing what I needed to do.

By the way, let me show you.

I took a photo of this splash ink painting

from the Suzhou Museum.

What do you think?

I haven't seen this kind of splash ink before.

Interesting.

That's right.

So I think that for the dye,

we can use less.

And for the tailoring at the waist,

we can make it simpler.

Let's leave the main focus

on this belt

and the Suzhou embroidery.

We can leave more white space on the clothing.

That will make the clothing look lighter.

Aren't Chinese aesthetics particular about leaving white space?

Leave more space,

so that the water color's beauty can be appreciated.
