[The Wolf]

[Episode 33] I've got proof.

This woman is...

This is indeed

the portrait that I once saw

Chu Zhen drawing.

But the woman in the portrait

is clearly Ma Zhai Xing.

They do look similar.

However, she's not Ma Zhai Xing,

but Princess Ping Yuan who was

only 18 years old at that time.

The woman in the portrait

is General Ma Ying's second wife.

Princess Ping Yuan?

But why

does she look exactly like my mother?

Back then,

General Ma Ying felt sorry for her.

So, he took the risk and rescued the pregnant princess

of previous dynasty.

The baby girl born afterward

is you.

This is utter nonsense.

There're many similar-looking people

in this world.

It's just a coincidence.

Bring the man here!

Princess Ping Yuan?

You...

Your Majesty,

do you still remember

the court painter, Chu Zhen?

Lord Bo

asked Mo Xiao to bring him here

but I intercepted them in the midway.

It's impossible that he can be an impostor.

Although Chu Zhen once drew a portrait

for Princess Ping Yuan,

he has never met

Princess's daughter.

Even if you brought him here

to appear before me,

it won't make any difference.

While I was in the imperial court,

I heard that General Ma Ying

owed his entire career to Lord Wen.

Even though they served different masters,

they were still in contact.

After Chu Kui massacred the royalties,

he couldn't find Princess's dead body.

It's highly likely that General Ma Ying

had given shelter to

Princess Ping Yuan.

These are pure conjectures.

It can be a pure coincidence that they look similar.

It can be another coincidence

that both of them like cypress vine.

However, if Ma Zhai Xing

has the relic of previous dynasty,

the tricolor clapper stone,

it can't be mere coincidence, right?

In order to manifest

the status of royalties, the late emperor of the previous dynasty

ordered a sophisticated hermit

to craft a unique

Water Moon Jade.

The jade has three colors - green, white and black.

They look unattractive from the outside.

But when they're thrown into the water,

they'll shine in all their splendor.

Ma Zhai Xing,

if you have the pledge of previous dynasty,

Water Moon Jade,

I'll

acknowledge your identity

as Princess Ping Yuan's daughter.

Zhai Xing, take it out.

I

don't have it!

Your Majesty, Zhai Xing surely has it.

Where is your bronze bell?

Isn't that the only thing

left by your Mother?

Bronze bell?

Princess Ping Yuan's tricolor bracelet

in the portrait

looks exactly like the

black clapper stone you gave me.

So, I guess

your mother must've put the Water Moon Jade

in the bronze bell

to protect you.

Hurry! Go fetch some water!

Go.

It appears that

Sister Zhai Xing is really a princess.

You're really...

You're really my benefactor,

Princess Ping Yuan's daughter!

I almost made a grave mistake just now!

Forgive me, Your Highness!

I, Ji Chong, pay respect to Princess.

I pay respect to Princess.

Your Majesty, Your Highness,

please get up!

It's too burdensome for me.

Sister Zhai Xing,

this is so amazing!

In such a short time,

you've turned from prisoner to Princess.

Ji Chong, you're really something!

Ji Chong,

if it wasn't because of you,

perhaps I

would never know

the truth of my identity.

Thank you.

Brother,

you must not

set yourself against Princess!

Or else,

you would've wronged your benefactor!

Lord Bo,

Ma Zhai Xing

is the daughter of my benefactor.

She has sought refugee with Jin,

but now you want to borrow troops

to make war with Jin.

This...

I can't

bite the hand that feeds me.

Your Majesty has acknowledged

the identity of Princess

from previous dynasty in front of me.

All in all,

Your Majesty and I

will be going along different paths from each other.

The alliance treaty has become a piece of waste paper.

Even if I can't borrow your troops,

it's just a matter of time before I defeat Jin.

Lord Bo,

I'm wrong for breaking the treaty.

I promise,

if there's a day

where Jin and you are at war,

I won't assist any one of you.

I hope you can keep your promise.

You finally have the right

to fight neck and neck with me.

I am

the royal princess of previous dynasty.

But you

are just an unidentified wolf

raised by the villain, Chu Kui.

What gives you the right

to fight neck and neck with me?

You assassinated Ma Mansion where I was raised

while Chu Kui massacred the country where I was born.

These unfair behaviors

are despised by the world.

Heaven's watching.

The last descendant of the previous dynasty is still alive.

Now that I've survived,

I'll no longer be the

softhearted Ma Zhai Xing I used to be.

I hope the new Ma Zhai Xing

is more than just a paper tiger.

You're the princess of previous dynasty

who shouldn't even exist,

I'll definitely take away your life

on the battlefield.

Darn it!

Ji Chong is so lucky!

He actually revealed

Ma Zhai Xing's true identity

as the princess of previous dynasty!

This is truly unexpected!

At this rate,

it'll surely raise the morale of the Jin Troop!

Master,

I've an idea.

Let's kill

Ma Zhai Xing on their way

back to Jin!

Do not act rashly!

Why?

The King has said that

he'll escort Ma Zhai Xing safely back to Jin.

Then, he won't assist any one of us.

If you hastily assassinate her now,

they might gang up

on us.

By that time...

Do we have to let her go?

We must look at the big picture!

How did I...

What Hai Die said is true.

The main concern now

is You Zhen's well-being.

Your Highness,

Fourth Prince's arrow wound

isn't serious.

I've diagnosed him

and his pulse is relatively stable.

The wound isn't life-threatening.

You can rest assured, Your Highness.

If there's nothing serious,

why there's no indication that

that he'll wake up?

Your Highness,

the poor blood circulation

in Fourth Prince's body has resulted in

slow blood flow to all parts of body.

He'll only wake up after a few days.

I suggest

to return to the palace as soon as possible

as blood flows well in warm temperature

and coagulates in low temperature.

The current weather in our country

is warmer and much pleasant than here.

Do what the imperial physician said.

Hai Die, pass on my order.

We'll return to the palace immediately.

Sister Zhai Xing, are you okay?

How is You Zhen doing?

He's fine.

They already departed.

You should stop blaming yourself.

Although I hate Lord Bo to the core,

I regret that I've accidentally injured

the innocent You Zhen.

I hope he'll recover soon.

Bao Na,

do you blame me for not telling you

about Liu Xin?

I forgot that I should be mad at you.

If you had let me know earlier

that Princess Ping Yuan was a fake,

I wouldn't have been

so panicky in front of my brother.

Do you not blame me at all?

If I were you,

I would do whatever is necessary

to bring down Lord Bo too.

I still have the chance

to ask for your forgiveness,

but it's too late for me to

apologize to Liu Xin

and tell her that

the elder princess that she'd been thinking about

is actually my mother.

I never got a chance to ask her

about my biological father

and my identity.

Don't be afraid.

When the sky gets dark, follow the plan

and everything will go smoothly.

Princess, it's all my fault.

If it wasn't because of my mistakes,

Lord Bo wouldn't have suspected anything.

Just like Elder Princess,

my mother can play pipa too.

When I was young,

she taught me how to play it.

But I wonder

if it's because I've got no talent

or that I'm all thumbs,

I just couldn't learn it no matter how hard I tried.

But Mother

never got mad at me.

I asked her if she ever blamed me.

Guess what she said.

What did she say?

She said that I had tried my best

and that I wasn't doing it on purpose.

Besides,

it made her heart ache

to see me blaming myself

thousands of times.

So, she didn't blame me at all.

It seems like

your mother and Elder Princess

have similar temperaments and act in a similar manner.

There're so many coincidences.

Elder Princess

was pregnant at that time.

I wonder if she'd given birth to a prince or a princess.

If the baby had the chance to grow up,

both of you will be of the same age.

Although I've never met

Princess Ping Yuan,

somehow I feel an odd sense

of familiarity

as I listened to what you said.

I was told that

they didn't find

the dead body of

Elder Princess in the Wen Mansion.

So, I sought shelter from the King of Jin

and requested him to locate

Elder Princess's whereabouts.

But in all these years,

there had never been any news of her.

Later on, the King of Jin asked me

to pretend to be Elder Princess

so that they would

stop asking him to make himself king.

It wasn't what he wanted.

Princess,

please don't misunderstand the King of Jin.

I know.

Princess,

I'm not afraid of death,

but I cannot die in peace before

I've found Elder Princess.

Liu Xin,

forgive me, I'm not going to

bring you back to Taiyuan.

There's no hatred

and resentment here.

You'll have nothing but radiant sunlight

with you.

Rest in peace.

If she didn't act hastily

and run away,

perhaps

these would not have happened.

It's all my fault.

If I had come back earlier,

Liu Xin might not die.

I'm the one to blame.

I shouldn't have let her go.

None of you are at fault.

I'm the one who's wrong.

My biological and foster fathers

were both murdered by Chu Kui,

and yet I still pledged loyalty to

Chu Kui, that brigand.

I even foolishly fell in love with Lord Bo.

Sister Zhai Xing, that's enough!

Just drop it!

This isn't your fault.

Stop blaming yourself!

Castellan had always treated you like his own daughter.

As he watched you from Heaven,

he wouldn't want you

to be so hard on yourself.

Now only I understand

what Mother said to

Father before she died.

She wanted Father to take an oath that

no matter what happens,

he would never let me leave the Ma Mansion.

She wanted me

to live my life like an ordinary girl.

Mother,

forgive me for my ignorance.

I knew nothing about

the sorrow in your heart.

You chose to live in degradation

to protect Imperial Father's bloodline.

You watched Chu Kui as he

seated merrily upon the throne.

It must've

teared your heart to pieces.

Now,

I finally understand

Father's unfinished words.

The daughter of a king.

He was talking about my identity.

-Sister Zhai Xing... -Bao Na.

Lord Bo,

some day

I'll see you on the battlefield.

[Taiyuan, Jin]

You must've known what was happening

and had a round of discussion.

According to the letter I received from the army,

we're going to greet the return of

the princess of previous dynasty.

We shall swear allegiance to Ma Zhai Xing.

Father, with all due respect,

I refuse to obey.

I believe

the civil officials, military officials and Six Armies

refuse to obey as well.

Ma Zhai Xing

is the descendant of previous dynasty.

Our family owes a debt of gratitude

to the previous dynasty for centuries.

Besides,

Chu Kui's alliance treaty has failed

all because of her.

She has rendered great service to us.

Indeed.

Even though she's of royal bloodline,

let's put aside the doubt about

her capability to rule Jin

and talk about this trip.

If Ju Yao didn't prove

her identity as Princess of previous dynasty,

she would've been

killed by Lord Bo long ago.

To put it bluntly,

she's just lucky enough

to reap where she has not sown.

That's right.

The full credit

[Zhou Hai]

[Assistant General of Jin's Six Armies] shall go to

Lord Chuan instead.

We refuse to obey Ma Zhai Xing!

That's right! We refuse to obey!

We refuse to obey!

How could we entrust her with such important errands?

Yes.

Have some water.

We've 20 miles to go

before we reach Taiyuan.

Princess,

when we return,

the King of Jin

will surely make a grand gesture

to welcome Princess of previous dynasty.

It's not necessarily a good thing

to return to Jin

as the princess of previous dynasty.

Then...

What do you mean?

Do you really think

a mere woman

can make the officials and generals of the Six Armies in Jin

willingly swear allegiance

to the princess of previous dynasty

who popped up

out of nowhere?

After all,

the King of Jin is indebted to previous dynasty

and not me, Ma Zhai Xing.

The old man might truly be

loyal before,

but now his loyalty

might be swallowed up in power.

Ma Zhai Xing,

as the princess of previous dynasty,

you've such a bleak future.

Don't worry,

I've got a solution.

What's that?

You'll know later.

I counted the days.

Lord Bo

should've reached our enemy country now.

The Emperor must be

so infuriated after hearing

the bad news of the failure to borrow troops.

I pay respect to Your Majesty.

Imperial Father,

I...

Shut up!

I don't want to see you right now!

You Zhen!

My own son!

You Zhen!

You Zhen!

Imperial physician!

Hurry up! Diagnose my son!

Third Prince, don't take it personally.

Once His Majesty knew that the Fourth Prince was injured,

he ordered everyone in the Imperial Hospital

to stand by since morning.

Third Prince,

please have regard to

His Majesty's feelings of worry.

It's my fault.

I failed to protect Fourth Brother.

How's he doing?

Tell me!

Your Majesty,

we're incompetent.

We couldn't find the cause.

Please forgive us, Your Majesty.

Get lost!

Zhen Er.

Imperial Father,

I know someone

who can save Fourth Brother.

What are you waiting for? Get him here!

I need your Majesty's oral decree

to bring that person here.

Go!

Tell him I want him here!

Yes.

You Zhen!

You Zhen!

Master, Lord Bo has returned to palace.

I've heard that

Fourth Prince was severely injured

and His Majesty is infuriated.

Fourth Prince was injured?

What about Lord Bo?

Did he get hurt too?

Master, do you want Lord Bo to get hurt

or not?

Of course I want him to get hurt!

I'll be so happy if Lord Bo gets hurt.

I've disappointed you.

You're Lord Bo,

yet you condescended to come to the dungeon.

I believe the imperial physicians

must be helpless in the face of Fourth Prince's injury.

I'm begging you

to put aside our

old scores.

Can you save my fourth brother?

This is my first time seeing

Lord Bo groveling and begging.

It seems like you

truly put Fourth Prince's life

before yourself.

If you can cure Fourth Brother,

I'll let you

have whatever you want.

It sounds familiar.

Now I remember.

When you wanted me to

save Ma Zhai Xing before,

you said the exact same thing.

What do you want me to do?

You've to kneel down to my master,

apologize,

beg and plead with her.

My master was imprisoned

twice in this

loathsome dungeon because of you.

Shouldn't Lord Bo

at least show some sincerity?

Never mind.

If I can't

cure Fourth Prince later,

I'm afraid Lord Bo might blame me for that.

At that time,

His Majesty won't be punishing

Lord Bo,

but me instead.

I'll go with you.

Master,

Fourth Prince is awake.

Imperial Father,

didn't Fourth Brother wake up already?

Take a look yourself.

Is he awake?

Or is he more dead than alive?

He didn't respond at all!

Yao Ji,

take a look at him.

Yes.

How is it?

When will Zhen Er wake up?

Your Majesty,

Fourth Prince's breath and blood circulation

are working well,

but he won't wake up.

I'm afraid

he's suffering from a rare disease

known as stupor.

What's stupor?

I've seen a schizophrenia case before,

are they similar?

It's possible to cure schizophrenia

by relying on external stimuli.

However, stupor is different.

Stuporose patients are like rigid wood.

They're mute and insensible.

They cannot hear people talking.

They have to rely on others

to move around and feed themselves.

A few days ago,

he was still unconscious.

But now, he can open his eyes.

Does that mean

he's getting better?

It seems like he has opened his eyes,

but it's totally meaningless

for a stuporose patient.

Stuporose patients

are unresponsive to stimulation

and remain insensible forever.

You've found the root cause,

can you prescribe the right medicine for the illness?

Stuporose patients are incurable.

They have to wake up on their own.

But it's uncertain how long it'll take.

It could be 10 days,

one month

or...

Some people

never ever regain consciousness.

Imperial Father.

Why did I even raise you?

It's all your fault

that my own son

has become a living dead!

Why aren't you the one lying

half dead here?

Why?

Your Majesty, it's what it is now.

Lord Bo couldn't have

foreseen what happened.

It's my fault.

Your guilt is far greater than this!

You failed to borrow the troops

and offered a chance for Ma Zhai Xing

to hurt Zhen Er!

I'm asking you,

why

didn't you kill Ma Zhai Xing

and avenge Zhen Er?

Or else,

she wouldn't have revealed

her identity as Princess of previous dynasty!

Do you still have feelings

for Ma Zhai Xing?

Did you intend to cover up for her?

I've no such intentions.

Please believe me, Imperial Father.

Your Majesty,

Lord Bo had already succeeded

and it wasn't long before we could catch Ma Zhai Xing alive.

But...

But the King of Qitan

suddenly found out

Ma Zhai Xing's identity

and saved her.

That was why Lord Bo

missed

the opportunity to take Ma Zhai Xing into custody.

At that time,

if we did

take down Ma Zhai Xing,

Lord Bo and Fourth Prince

might not even be able to return.

Even if you didn't betray me,

you've failed me anyway.

I'm willing to receive punishment.

Punishment?

You were raised by a wolf!

For you,

suffering in flesh

won't cause you any pain at all!

It can't ease the hatred in my heart!

If the whip is soaked in the Wolfbone Flower

before flagellation,

will it soothe your anger?

Your Majesty, you mustn't do that!

Please think twice about it!

Shut up!

Whoever pleading for Lord Bo

will be punished together!

Lord Bo,

I want you to remember that

your mistake has resulted in

this catastrophe.

Yao Ji,

prepare the whip.

You'll execute the sanction.

I'll do as instructed.

Guards,

take down Lord Bo!

Get lost!

Yes.

You Zhen.

You Zhen.

You...

Tables have turned in an instant.

I was still held up in the dungeon a moment ago,

but now it's your turn.

Kings and bears often worry about their keepers.

Even if you're a prince,

you're nothing compared

to his own son.

You're just the same as me.

Our lives mean nothing.

I've made a mistake.

His Majesty must remain impartial

and handle the matter fairly.

Lord Bo, you're really

a good son of His Majesty.

Perhaps I should've listened to you.

Then, you might not be held up in the dungeon

and I wouldn't have been punished now.

Do you mean killing Hong Er and her father?

Didn't you say that

it's a curse that Zhai Xing and I were in love?

If I had killed her earlier,

Fourth Brother wouldn't have to suffer

and become a living dead.

Why did you ask for the flagellation?

You hate the flagellation and the Wolfbone Flower the most.

You hate that these things

will trample on your pride

and turn you into a beast

despised by others.

Because it'll make me remember

that my love for Ma Zhai Xing is wrong

and it has made me pay dearly.

If only you knew then

what you know now.

Be ready

for my whip.

That's what keeps me going.

Master, the whip

has been soaked repeatedly

in the juice of Wolfbone Flower.

I can assure that the whip

is thoroughly soaked.

You're really dedicated.

This show is even better than

just seeing Lord Bo kneel down,

how can I miss it?

Master, why are you giving me this look?

What look?

You seem

unwilling to hit Lord Bo.

Nonsense!

Even His Majesty is okay with it,

why would I be unwilling?

His Majesty has arrived.

Greetings, Your Majesty.

Get up.

Execute the punishment.

Pass on my order.

Lord Bo is grounded in his mansion.

Nobody can see him

without my permission!

Your Majesty, with all due respect,

the news of failure to borrow the troops

and Ma Ying harboring Princess of the previous dynasty

have spread through the court.

I fear

the news of Lord Bo being grounded

will result in panic

among the officials.

Ma Zhai Xing

is just a dreg

that I've yet exterminated.

She's hardly worth mentioning.

Indeed, Your Majesty.

I'm simply being paranoid.

However, I do need

a victorious battle to

inflict heavy losses on Jin

before they enhance their prestige

by introducing the princess of the previous dynasty

to the world.

Colonel Yang.

Yes.

Pass on my military order immediately.

Summon the marquis from all the states

to appear before me with their troops.

I want Lord Bo

to personally command the army

and strike

a death blow to Jin.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Also,

Wang Rong from Zhenzhou

and Han Qing from Luzhou

are near to Taiyuan.

They know the topography very well.

I want them to

enter the palace and discuss with me as soon as they can.

I understand.

I'll instantly send messengers to

inform the marquis from all the states.

I'd excuse myself.

Hurry up!

Yes.

Your Majesty,

Lord Bo's badly wounded now.

What shall we do?

Yao Ji will help heal his wounds.

He'll be fine.

I want to teach him a lesson

so that he'll know that

I'm the one who grants him his life.

I once defeated the previous dynasty,

now

I'll continue to

defeat Jin even if they have Princess of the previous dynasty.

The princess has arrived.

I, together with my son

and the generals of Six Armies,

have been expecting Princess to return.

Your Highness, you've had a long journey.

That must be tiring.

King of Jin, please forgo formality.

After this,

I hope you'll call me Zhai Xing,

just like before.

I really couldn't get used to

being called Princess or Your Highness.

It's fine if Princess is not used to it,

but someone else has to get used to it.

Ji Chong.

Since Your Highness has ordered so,

I'll do as instructed.

I've had the throne

ready for Your Highness.

Suit yourself.

As expected,

the chair doesn't suit me.

Although

I managed to return safely,

thanks to God and Lord Chuan for his help,

I've let you down, King of Jin.

I know

I'm not competent enough

to be the chief marshal of the Ma Troop.

Hence, I'll hand over

the military seal and power of the Ma Troop.

Your Highness,

why so sudden?

As the princess of previous dynasty,

I shall look at the big picture.

I'm not good in leading army into battle

and so it's best for me to rely on the King of Jin.

From now on,

the Ma Troop will be under the King of Jin's command.

If you insist.

Ju Qi,

take the seal.

Yes.

Pass on my order,

assign all the soldiers in the Ma Troop

to each army group of the Jin Troop.

I'll do as instructed.

Your Majesty, I'll let you handle your affairs.

I'd excuse myself now.

Grand Supervisor.

I'm here.

Escort Princess to the Tangxing Garden.

Yes.

Your Highness, let's go.

Princess, you're finally back!

You're actually the princess of the previous dynasty.

This is so amazing!

Ma Zhai Xing,

how foolish are you?

It's not a solution to hand over your military power.

You're at your wit's end now!
