that he cares about in favour

and it's glorified.

He's made out to be a hero

But for me, that's what
I've always loved

this imaginary character

named Danny Boyd.

I have no idea where
the name came from,

it just sort of wrote itself.

I wrote all this back story and
wrote down every last detail.

Yeah, I guess that's
where it all started.

Been creating characters
ever since.

Why mystery?

Oh, well.
That's an easy one.

Jigsaw puzzles, I love 'em.

Mystery novels are just
characters solving problems.

And when you do it right...
it all falls into place.

It took me a year and a half and
I only got past chapter four,

to do with the spotlight.

Wasn't what she signed up
for, so, um, so we broke up.

I'm sorry.

And then you left New York when?

Not long thereafter.

I agreed to let a journalist

And when the article came out,

I didn't even recognize myself.

that I helped write
