[cheerful music]
*
- Oh. - [laughing]
- * Dancing through springtime flowers *
* And rays of summer sun
* Catching white snowflakes on your nose *
* Running through autumn leaves *
* That float from trees on high *
* With our love that is bigger than the sky *
* Guess how much I love you
* Guess how much I love you *
* Guess how much I love you
* Guess how much I love you *
* Guess how much I love you
* Guess how much I love you *
* Guess how much I love you
female narrator: It was a spring morning in the meadow.
The sun rose over the horizon,
sunbeams warming and waking
a sleeping Little Nutbrown Hare.
- [yawning, sighing]
[panting, giggling]
- Hello, flowers.
Hello, green grass.
Hello, big, old, oak tree!
Hello, clouds!
- [chuckles] And hello, you.
- Do you think the clouds heard me?
- Hmm, I don't know, my Little Nutbrown Hare.
They may have if your voice went far enough.
- How will I know how far my voice can go?
I've only ever heard it up close.
- And that's just the way I like it,
up close. - [giggling]
But I really do want to know.
- Well, why don't you find out?
- Hmm.
All right, I will.
Stay there.
Can you hear me?
- Loud and clear.
- How about now?
- Only just!
- How about now?
[sighs]
You couldn't hear me from over there?
- I heard something,
but it was so far away,
I couldn't tell what you said.
- [sighs]
Then the clouds must not have heard me.
They are much further away than the old oak tree.
- Hmm, you may be right, Little Nutbrown Hare,
but I know a special place
where you can make your voice go
further than you ever thought possible.
- Further than the tree?
- Much further.
- Then what are we waiting for?
- Well, all right.
Follow me!
- [gasps]
Something's coming.
- [giggling]
It's me!
- [chuckles] Hello, Little Field Mouse.
- Hello, Little Nutbrown Hare.
Where are you going?
- Big Nutbrown Hare is taking me
to a special place
where my voice can go very, very far.
- I've never thought about how far my voice can go.
Probably quite a long way!
- Definitely further than
most creatures in the meadow,
but if you want to hear it go even further,
you should come with us.
- Yay!
- [chuckling] We've got a bit of
a journey ahead of us yet.
- Let's go.
narrator: It was a long journey to the special place
Big Nutbrown Hare was taking them to.
By the time they got there,
it was already getting quite late in the day.
- Here we are.
both: Wow.
- It's beautiful.
- And that's not all.
Listen to this.
[echoing] Hello!
both: Wow.
- There must be at least
three Big Nutbrown Hares down there.
- We should go and say hello.
They sound very friendly.
- It does sound like that, doesn't it?
But there isn't anybody down there.
What you're hearing is actually just my voice.
- But you're standing here
and those other voices
are coming from all the way down there.
- That's right.
The sound of my voice is bouncing off the rocky walls.
It's called an "echo."
[echoing] An echo!
- Oh. - Wow.
- Try it yourselves.
- Hello!
[echoing] Hello!
[both chuckle]
Is anyone down there?
[echoing] Down there?
- Just us.
[echoing] Echo!
[both laughing]
- I never thought my voice could go so far.
- Maybe even as far as the clouds.
- Wow.
- Speaking of far away things,
we still have a long journey home.
We should set off before it starts getting dark.
- Oh, but can't we make more echoes?
- Now that you know the way,
you can come back here any time you like.
- Yes!
We can come back tomorrow
and show our friends how to make an echo.
- [echoing] Yes!
narrator: The next day,
Little Nutbrown Hare led his friends
through the woods to the special place
Big Nutbrown Hare had shown them.
- Where are you taking us, Little Nutbrown Hare?
- We are taking you to a very special place
where your voice-- - Wait!
Let's make it a surprise.
- Exactly what I was thinking.
Come on!
[all gasp, sigh]
- It is very pretty.
- And that's not all!
[inhaling deeply] - Wait!
I've got a better idea.
How would you like to play a game?
- Ooh, which game?
- It's called...
um...
Try To Find Me.
Little Field Mouse and I
will hide down in the woods
and you two have to find us before...
before...
before the sun goes below the top of these cliffs.
- Doesn't sound too hard.
- We'll see.
Close your eyes and count to ten,
and then you can start.
Both: One acorn, two acorns--
- Come on, Little Field Mouse.
Hurry.
- [panting] They must've finished counting.
We have to find a hiding place.
How's this?
- Pretty good,
but we don't have to hide at all.
- But if we don't hide,
then they will win the game.
- Only if they know which way to go.
- Oh?
- We're over here!
[echoing] Here!
- That was Little Nutbrown Hare.
- Lots of Little Nutbrown Hares.
- Are there other Little Nutbrown Hares?
- If there are, I've never met them.
- Come on, we can ask him when we find him.
Do you see them?
- Not yet.
- Getting closer!
[echoing] Closer!
- Which way?
- Um, every way.
- Let's split up.
We can follow the voices one by one.
[both laughing]
- Come and find us!
[echoing] Find us!
- I thought this game was two versus two.
It's not fair that they brought more friends.
- [giggling]
[echoing] We're not up there!
- Ugh, this game is much trickier than I thought.
- [echoing] We're over here!
- Huh?
- [echoing] No, this way!
[both grunt]
[grunts echoing]
- Did you hear what I just heard?
- I think I did.
[both laughing]
- Hello!
[echoing] Hello!
- [laughs]
So that's how they tricked us.
Well played!
[echoing] Well played!
- [laughs]
We worked out their trick,
but not quick enough to win the game.
- Oh, we lost.
- Maybe,
but you found something
even more special.
[echoing] Your echo!
Hooray! [giggles, cheers echoing]
narrator: After having lots of fun
making echoes, they all journeyed home.
Later that day, Little Nutbrown Hare
enjoyed a lovely sunset with his father.
- After a whole day of echoes,
it feels funny having just one voice.
- [chuckles] Speak for yourself.
[imitates echo] Self, self.
- [giggles]
Guess how much I love you.
You, you.
- Hmm, as much as all the voices
echoing across the whole
meadow, meadow, meadow.
- No.
Only as much as your voice.
- Oh?
- Because that's the voice
I love hearing
most of all, all, all.
- And I yours, my Little Nutbrown Hare.
And I yours,
yours, yours.
female narrator: It was the type of shiny,
autumn day where everything looks brighter
and more colorful than usual,
and the meadow was bubbling with possibilities
for a Little Nutbrown Hare.
- Everything is so pretty.
- [yawning, sighing]
- Hmm.
Has the sky always been that blue?
- You know, I think it is a little extra blue today.
[rustling]
- [giggling]
- [laughs]
Do daisies usually giggle?
- No!
It's me, Little Nutbrown Hare.
- Hello, Little Field Mouse.
- What shall we do today?
Do you want to chase leaves?
- We did that yesterday.
A day like this needs more than just our usual games.
Why don't we go up to the high meadow?
- It looks a long way away.
- It'll be worth it
because there are blackberry bushes up there.
- Yum!
I love blackberries. Yum.
- [laughs] Then that sounds like
a perfect adventure for an awesome day.
- [panting]
This is a long way to go.
- We'll get there, Little Field Mouse.
One step at a time.
- Okay.
One, two, three,
four, five, six,
seven, eight...
104, 105...
[Little Nutbrown Hare exclaiming]
- Wait for me.
- You can do it.
- [grunting]
Who--whoa!
I made it.
- [grunting, groaning]
- Come on, slow coach.
One step at a time.
- Ugh, I'm coming.
My legs just aren't as young as yours.
[grunting, groaning]
[playful music]
*
- We're here!
- [sighing] It's beautiful.
- Oh, look, the rocks are orange.
- Yes, they're covered in lichen.
- The blackberry bushes!
- Oh, goody!
- Last one there is a spotty mushroom!
- All right! - [chuckles]
[both panting, giggling]
- We're both winners
because we've got blackberries.
- Mmm, and lots of them.
- Oh. - Yum.
- Mmm.
- Mmm.
[sighs]
What a feast.
- Mmm-mmm.
- What shall we do now?
- Maybe we need to go back now.
- We've got time to play a game of chasings first.
Come on, can't catch me!
- Yes, I can!
- Whoa! [chuckles]
- Have fun.
Hmm.
- Ha--oh!
- I'm going to get you!
Ah!
Oops.
Sorry, Little Blue Beetle.
- [laughing]
Can't catch me!
Whoa... [chuckles]
- Yes, I can!
[panting]
[groans, sighs]
It started to feel cold all of a sudden.
The meadow is disappearing.
Where are you, Little Nutbrown Hare?
- [chuckles] You're supposed to catch me yourself.
- I can't see you!
It's getting too misty.
- Oh, yes, it is.
- I'm a little bit frightened, Little Nutbrown Hare.
- It's all right, Little Field Mouse.
Stay where you are and keep talking.
I'll follow the sound of your voice.
- What should I say?
- Anything.
Just keep talking.
- Uh, it's misty in the meadow.
The flowers have gone away.
It's misty in the meadow.
Which makes it hard to play.
It's misty in the meadow.
I can hardly see at all.
It's misty in the meadow.
This mist makes me feel small.
- Got you!
- I'm so glad to see you.
- Hold my hand.
We'll find Big Nutbrown Hare.
- What's that?
- It's only me.
[both laughing]
Ooh, this is quite a mist, isn't it?
- I've never seen a mist like this before.
Not from the inside, anyway.
- Everything looks so different,
and it's so quiet.
- How are we going to get home
if we can't see?
- We can't stay here all night.
- [chuckles] Don't worry.
The mist will lift soon.
We'll be fine.
Oh--ah.
I'm sure it won't be that long.
- Will it be as long as it takes
for an autumn leaf to flutter to the ground?
- Maybe a little longer than that.
- Oh, oh!
As long as it takes
for the green tree shoots
to come in the spring?
- No, definitely not that long,
and you know what?
The time will pass even quicker
if we play a game.
- But what can we play?
It's too misty for our usual games.
- [laughs] Yes.
Hide-and-seek would be very easy for the hider.
- And hard for the seeker.
- [chuckles] Very true.
- And I Spy With My Little Eye definitely wouldn't work.
We can't spy anything.
- [gasps] I know.
How about we play
I Don't Spy With My Little Eye.
- Hmm, I've never played that before.
- That's because I just made it up.
- [chuckles] Okay.
How does it work?
- We take it in turns
thinking of something that we can't see
but we know will be there when the mist rises.
- That sounds like fun.
- I'll start.
I don't spy with my little eye...
something blue.
- Hmm.
Is it the sky?
- No.
- The water in the stream?
- No.
A little, blue beetle.
- Oh. [giggles]
My turn.
I don't spy with my little eye
something orange.
- Orange?
A dahlia flower?
- No.
- A maple leaf?
- No.
A boulder covered in orange lichen.
- Oh, that's a good one.
My turn now.
Hmm, I spy with my little eye
something brown.
- Hmm.
Brown.
- Something Nutbrown.
both: A hare!
- Oh, you got it.
You were both very quick with that one.
- Hey, it's getting warmer.
- And lighter.
- Ah, the mist is lifting.
- Look, I can see the holly bush I hid behind.
I couldn't see that a minute ago.
- And there's the boulder
covered in orange lichen.
Hooray!
- And here's the little blue beetle again.
- Hello, Little Blue Beetle.
I hope the mist didn't frighten you.
- Well, we certainly had an adventure
but I think we'd better head home now,
while we can see.
- Coming. - Okay.
[gasps] Wait!
- What is it?
- Look at that.
The sun is shining
with all the colors of the rainbow!
- In a perfect circle.
- Oh, it's beautiful.
- It certainly is.
- That's the best thing about going on an adventure.
You set out looking for blackberries
and end up finding a rainbow.
- You never know what amazing things you'll see.
- Or not see when it's misty.
[all laughing]
narrator: And so, the Nutbrown Hares
and Little Field Mouse made their way back home
just before it got dark.
After a long day of adventure,
they were ready for sleep.
- I wonder what we'll dream about tonight.
- I'm going to dream about a beautiful circle rainbow.
- I'm going to dream about running through the flowers.
- [sighing]
Mmm, blackberries.
- I think Little Field Mouse is already dreaming.
[chuckles]
- Guess how much I love you.
- Hmm, as much as a meadow on high?
- As much as I love seeing the blue in the sky,
the green in the grass, and all the colors
of the awesome flowers when the mist rises.
- Oh, I could've guessed that after all
because that's just how much I love you too.
- [barks, yips]
