- [Narrator] It was a windy Autumn morning.

And brightly colored leaves and butterflies fluttered

about together in the breeze.

- [gasps] Look at this one.

Look at those colors.

- [Narrator] But it was the butterflies especially

that caught Little Nutbrown Hare's eye.

- Wow.

[chuckles]

And here's an even prettier one.

[gasps] It's so beautiful.

- Isn't it amazing how somethingthat was once a caterpillar

now looks completely different as a butterfly.

- Yes, it's a bit like the way

leaves change color in Autumn.

- That's right.

Oh [puffs air out]

- I wonder what it's like to change into something else.

- Yes. Sometimes I wonder that too.

[gasps] Shall we change into frogs

and hop off to look for food?

[croaks]

[laughs]

- No thank you, I think I'll follow that butterfly.

- Goodbye.

[playful music]

[panting]

- Hey. Hey butterfly.

Don't go away, come back.

[panting]

[screams] [mud splats]

- Oh [grunts]

I look like a

Mud Creature.

[laughs]

Well, now I've changed into something else.

I am a Mud Creature.

[chuckles]

Wait till Little Gray Squirrel sees me like this.

[chuckles] Clomp, clomp.

[squelching footsteps]

- Hey, Little Gray Squirrel. - Huh?

[screams]

[pants]

- I didn't mean to startle you.

It's me [giggles]

Little Nutbrown Hare.

- Huh?

[laughs]

What a surprise and what a great disguise.

[laughs]

I want a disguise too.

[mud splashes]

[laughs]

What's the matter?

Doesn't the Mud Creature like mud?

- Oh. Hey, you're right.

[grunts]

mud.

- And me like leaves

from trees.

I'm a Leaf Creature.

And I'm light and floaty.

- And I am a Mud Creature.

And I'm sticky and stompy.

- Leaf Creatures like to float in the wind.

- Mud Creatures like to eat mud.

Yum, yum, yummy mud.

- Oh yuk.

[laughing]

- I didn't really eat it.

That would be yukky.

- This is great fun.

Who can we show our disguises to now?

- Oh.

[munching apple]

[grass rustling]

- Surprise. - Surprise.

- Wow.

- I am a Mud Creature.

- And I'm light and floaty Leaf Creature.

- Huh?

[laughs]

What a brilliant surprise.

[laughs]

And what great disguises.

I want a disguise too [giggles]

- You look great, Little Redwood Fox.

- Yes, you do.

[laughs]

- But, what are you?

- Can't you tell?

[sigh]

I'm a Twig Creature.

- Oh. - I like to eat twigs.

[laughs]

I won't really eat one.

Ha hum. Yum.

Twigs.

[makes eating sounds]

- Mud.

Must have mud.

- Swish, swish, floating in the breeze.

Whee.

- Twiggy, twiggy. - Whee.

- Twiggies. - Must have mud

[talking over each other]

[laughing]

- Now, who else can we surprise?

- Delicious.

Yum.

- Little Field Mouse is going to love this.

[giggling]

- Surprise. - Surprise.

- Oh.

[squeaks]

[laughing]

- Oh. - That was

the best surprise yet.

- Now let's go and tell her

who we really are. - Oh, oh.

Wait a minute Little Nutbrown Hare.

Some twigs fell off my disguise.

- And I need some more leaves.

- Oh, those little tricksters [giggles]

[pants]

- Hurry up. Let's go and show Little Field Mouse.

Mud.

- Twiggy, twiggy, twiggy.

- Whee.

Whee.

- Wow.

Where is she?

- Little Field Mouse.

- I hope we didn't scare her off.

It was just supposed to be a fun surprise.

- Little Field Mouse.

- It's just us.

- Your friends.

[plant rustling]

[creature noises]

[gasps] Huh?

[sighs]

[creature noises]

- Huh? [giggling]

[sighs]

[screams]

- I'm being followed by a bush.

[creature noises]

- Wow, a walking bush. - Wow, a walking bush.

- Surprise [giggles]

[laughing]

- Well done, Little Field Mouse.

- That was a terrific disguise.

[laughs]

- The best surprise yet.

I am a Mud Creature.

I eat mud.

- I'm a light and floaty Leaf Creature.

- And I'm a Twig Creature.

I love to eat twigs.

- Then I'll be a Bush Creature.

Whee, ah.

And, Bush Creatures like to eat

berries.

Let's all look for food.

Berries.

I want berries.

- Mud Creature hungry.

I want mud.

- [growls] Twig Creature hungry too.

- Leave Creature too.

- Oh

I am pretty hungry.

- So am I.

I was about to eat some acorns

when we started playing disguises.

- And I had a juicy apple.

- And I had some yummy grasses.

Oh, but I've lost them.

- [sighs] It would be nice to have some food right now.

[humming]

- [gasps] What's this?

[gasps] Oh, what are these fierce looking creatures?

Oh I do hope I'm safe.

- No one is safe with the Mud Creature around [growls]

- Or the Bush Creature.

Chomp, chomp, chomp.

[growling] - Oh dear.

I wonder if I can tame them

with this

food?

[animals cheer]

- [chewing] Just as well I foundall these strange creatures

to help share my food.

[munching]

- And it was even better than mud.

- But how are we going to get our disguises off?

Ow, this mud has dried hard.

[groaning]

- Maybe another creature can help.

[grunts] A Tree Creature.

[laughs]

[roars]

[laughing]

[laughs] Now jump in the river and wash all the mud off

before the Tree Creature gets you [growls]

[laughing]

[water splashes]

[laughs]

- [Narrator] And as the four friends splashed and washed

the mud off, the strangecreatures soon all melted away.

- [laughs] I had fun pretending to change

into something else today.

- Yes, pretending is fun, isn't it?

Especially being a Mud Creature [growls]

[laughing]

- Guess how much this Mud Creature loves you.

- Oh

more than mud?

- Yes, more than all the mud in the sloppiest mud puddle

on a very muddy day. [giggles]

And here comes a big lump of sloppy mud

right now.

Ah

splat.

- Oh. [laughing]
