- [Narrator] The autumn moon was shining

brightly over the valley.

And stars were sparking in the night sky.

But Little Nutbrown Hare was not quite ready for sleep.

[rustling]

- Uh. Yoohoo! Moon!

[magical tones]

I can't sleep!

- Surprise!

- Oh! [giggling]

- Me either.

[rustling]

[giggling]

[sighing]

[insects chirping]

- Why is it so quiet?

- Is it?

[wind whistling]

- What's making that sound?

- Listen.

- Oh!

[cheerful music]

Wind and leaves falling.

- That's right, Little Nutbrown Hare.

- I can make that sound. Swish! Swish! [giggles]

- [Little Field Mouse] Look out below! [giggling]

- Oh! Hello Little Field Mouse.

- [giggling] What are you doing, Little Nutbrown Hare?

Let's have a rest here.

- [Little Nutbrown Hare] Listen!

The whooshing sound! It's over here!

Oh! It's the water whooshing!

- [Little Animals] Swish, swish, hoot!

Whoosh, whoosh, wobble, nibble!

- The moon.

- [Little Field Mouse] In the water!

- It's a little green frog!

- Croak, croak! Splash!

- Swish, swish, hoot!

Whoosh, whoosh, wobble! Nibble, croak, splash! Oh!

- What's all that noise?

- We are whooshing like water.

- Swishing like the wind.

- And splashing like an otter!

- Hoot! Do you mind? I don't like getting wet.

- Oops! Sorry Little White Owl.

[giggling]

- Look! The moon! It's back in the water!

- Oh! Yes it is. And up in the sky, too.

- [Little Nutbrown Hare] Two big, lovely, round moons. Wow.

- I know a story about the moon.

[anticipatory music]

- On the first morning of the world,

the noisy sun raised her head and chased

the quiet moon right out of the sky.

And then, on the first evening,

it was the quiet moon's turn to sneak out of hiding

and chase the noisy sun away!

And so it has been ever since

that every night and every day,

the sun and the moon take turns to chase each other

out of the sky!

[gasping]

And so it will be forever.

- Is that story really true, Little White Owl?

- Well it is true that it is my story.

[yawning]

- That sounds like a very sleepy Little Nutbrown Hare.

Ah-ha! Bedtime?

- [sighing]

- Goodnight, all!

- Goodnight, sleep tight.

- See you in the morning light.

- [Nutbrown Hares] Woohoo! [giggling]

Swish, swish, hoot! Whoosh, whoosh, wobble!

Nibble, croak splash! [giggling]

- [Narrator] By now, Little Nutbrown Hare

was ready to nod off to sleep.

[giggling]

Almost.

As he lay in his bed of leaves with his father,

he gazed up at the moon.

[sighing]

- Ah, I love the moon.

So, what sound does the moon make?

- Hm.

- Maybe it sounds like boop, boop.

- [Big Nutbrown Hare] Boop, boop!

Or maybe it's boop, boop ee doop!

- Boop, boop ee doop, faloop!

- [Nutbrown Hares] Boop, boop ee doop, faloop, pop!

- Pop, faloop, boop dee doop!

- What about this sound?

A Little Nutbrown Hare laughing!

[laughing]

- As much as all the sounds in the night.
