- [Narrator] It was a hot summer day.

There was no breeze at all,

just the sound of insects buzzing about noisily.

Little Nutbrown Hare and his father, Big Nutbrown Hare,

were lying lazily in the cool shade of a tree.

- [sighs] I'm going to lie here all day.

- [sighs] It is nice here in the cool shade.

Oh, but I think we might get hungry soon.

[giggles]

- [giggles] That tickles.

- So, I'm going to go and find us a treat!

[grunts]

Oh but here comes Little Redwood Fox.

- Want to play, Little Nutbrown Hare?

- [sighs] It's too hot to do anything Little Redwood Fox!

That's a lovely cool breeze!

[laughs]

[grunts]

- I want to make a cool breeze too!

[grunts]

Can you feel anything?

- Like a cool breeze?

- Oh.

- Try this leaf.

- Hmm that works, but it's not quite the same

as having a special tail that can keep you cool in summer.

- My tail does something special in winter too.

- On cold days, it keeps me snuggly and warm.

that could do special things too.

to cool me down.

Where did Little Field Mouse go?

- [Little Field Mouse] I've got it!

[group exclaims]

This piece of ivy will make you a lovely long tail,

it'll be just like mine!

- It's just like yours Little Field Mouse!

That will be fun!

[grunts]

[exclaiming]

- Whoops. [giggles]

It's a bit longer than your tail Little Field Mouse!

- A little bit too long!

[sighs]

- I know where to find a shorter tail.

A shorter tail?

I like the sound of that!

- This bark will make a wonderful tail.

- Let's tie it on with the ivy!

- Great idea!

[grunts]

[giggles]

It's perfect!

Try to swish it!

[grunts]

It's a nice tail.

But it doesn't swish very well!

It's a bit, flappy.

- I think you need a softer, bushier tail.

- Softer and bushier.

[grunts]

much luck with finding a new tail.

- We can't give up yet!

- Hmm, I guess I can look in here.

- [Narrator] Meanwhile, across the meadow,

Big Nutbrown Hare had found a treat:

some fresh, juicy grass shoots.

He was looking for Little Nutbrown Hare

so he could share them.

He had looked just about everywhere in the meadow

when he finally spotted

something very familiar bobbing around.

- [gasps] Ah!

Hello! [giggles]

Here you are!

- Big Nutbrown Hare!

- Look.

- I found this.

- These will be perfect!

- [laughs] You have been busy.

But what are these for?

- For making me a long tail.

- [giggles] A long tail?

- Show him all the special things your long tails can do!

Little Field Mouse, you first.

- Okay. [exclaims]

- [laughs] That looks like fun Little Field Mouse.

I can see your tail is very special too.

What a great thing to be able to do!

[giggles]

- I see what you mean,

your friends have very special long tails.

[giggles] But your tail is special too!

I don't see how.

- Do you see that bush over there?

- [Group] Yes!

- Little Field Mouse would you mind running over there

and waiting for a moment?

- Sure! [giggles]

- Where did she go?

- I can't see her?

- We can't see her anymore.

- Okay maybe you could go and find her

and ask her to come back now.

- All right, and then can we see how special my tail is?

- That's exactly what we'll do. [giggles]

- Little Nutbrown Hare is easy to see

because of his special white tail!

But we can't see Little Field Mouse at all!

- His tail always helps me find him.

[panting]

[hares sighing]

- It was nice of my friends to make us a special swishy fan.

- Mm, very nice.

- As much as my little white tail is easy to see?

[grunts]

[both giggling]

- Yes, and as much as your floppy ears

are good at hearing. [giggles]

and your bendy legs are clever at hopping.

- And as much as my long arms are perfect for cuddling!
