- [Narrator] It was a beautifulSpring day in the meadow

and Little Nutbrown Hare was enjoying every minute of it.

[Little Nutbrown Hare playful sing-song]

- I love Spring! I love Spring.

It makes me want to dance and sing.

I love the sunshine.

[sniffs] And the flowers. Aaahh.

I could play in them for hours and hours!

Warm ground!

[Little Field Mouse gasp]

- Whoa!

- Oops! Sorry, Little Field Mouse.

I was enjoying the things of Spring!

- Me, too! Do you know what my favorite Spring-thing is?

The colors!

In Winter, everything is white and gray, but in Spring...

Look around you! How many different colors can you see?

- Mmm.

Oh, green grass!

- Yellow flowers!

- And blue flowers!

- And green leaves!

- [gasp] Blue sky!

- Blue Bird. [giggles]

[Blue Bird giggles]

- Hello, Little Field Mouse. Hello, Little Nutbrown Hare.

What a lovely day.

- [Both] Hello, Blue Bird! [giggle]

- Oh. Orange butterfly!

- Nutbrown Hare! [laughs]

[Little Nutbrown Hare giggles]

- Brown field mouse!

[Brown Field Mouse laughs]

[Little Nutbrown Hare laughs]

- [Both] Oh-ooh.

- There goes the yellow sun.

- But there's another color, gray clouds!

- [Both] Oooh.

- Oh. And wet rain!

- I don't think wet is a color.

- No, but it's still very wet! [gasp]

Quick! Over there!

- Wait! Bring the flowers.

- Okay.

[both giggle]

[Big Nutbrown Hare giggles]

- Hello, Big Nutbrown Hare.

- Hello, Little Field Mouse.

You two seemed to be having a lot of fun in the meadow.

- We were! [Little Field Mouse giggles]

- We were enjoying our favorite spring-things!

The sunshine, and the smells, and the warm ground.

- And the colors! You've never seen so many colors.

Come and see.

[Big Nutbrown Hare giggles]

- Look.

- Aah.

- Oh, it's all a bit gray now.

- And it's too wet to roll around in.

- [sigh] We can't enjoy our favorite

Spring-things, any more.

- Why does it have to rain and spoil everything?

Spring would be so much better without rain!

- But rain makes the flowers and the grass grow,

which brings the insects and the birds,

all the things you like about Spring,

so you've got to have some rain.

- But it's no fun when it's raining!

- Are you sure?

There is fun to be had when it rains,

but sometimes it's hidden and hard to find.

- Huh!?

- How do you find fun?

- I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find it.

- [Both] Where?

- Ooh, fun could be anywhere.

- [Both] Oh!

- I don't see any fun over here!

- And I don't think it's in here!

- Could the fun be hiding underneath the leaves?

- Mm, could be.

- [gasp] Then let's look!

- There's some sticks and acorns and leaves, but no fun.

- Maybe it's underground!

[Little Nutbrown Hare panting]

- Found anything?

[Little Field Mouse panting]

- No, unless fun looks a lot like dirt.

- I don't think so.

- Mm. Where else can we look for fun?

We've looked behind the tree, in a log,

under the leaves, under the ground.

- Look! Our holes are filling with water.

The rain has turned them into little ponds!

- And ponds need ducks!

- I can help with that.

Quack, quack, quack! Quack, quack!

- Oh, what a great idea.

Aah.

And trees!

- Quack, quack, quack! Nice weather for ducks.

- Quack! You're right, Little Yellow Duck.

[both giggles]

- Ooh.

- Quack! Quack! Quack!

- Hello. - Oh.

- [Both] Hello. [giggle]

- What are you doing?

- We're looking for fun.

- We haven't found it yet, but we've made this pond,

with ducks and trees.

- [gasp] If it's got trees, they need a squirrel!

I'll make one. [panting]

- [giggles] Aah.

[both cheering]

- And squirrels need nuts.

- I'll make some, too!

- Oohhh. It's really raining out there!

- Hello, Little Redwood Fox.

- Hello, Little Nutbrown Hare. What are you doing?

- Looking for fun.

- But we haven't found it, yet.

- I'll help you, but first I'd better dry myself.

- [All] Whoa! Little Redwood Fox!

You're wetting us!

- Now we'll have to dry ourselves!

- Hey!

- [All] Whoa.

[all laugh]

- You know, I think we're finally dry.

- But let's do it once more,

just to make sure we really are.

[all laugh]

- Oh, dear. Look!

The pond's overflowing and the ducks are getting away!

Uh-oh!

[Little Field Mouse panting]

- Just in time.

- Mm.

That gives me an idea!

Why don't we have a duck race on the pond?

- Yeah!

- But I don't have a duck.

- Neither do I.

- That's all right. I'll show you how to make one.

- And I'll turn the pond into a river

that's just right for racing!

- First you get a lily,

then you peel back a petal

and it turns into a duck. [giggles]

- Wow!

- Hey! It does too.

[Little Nutbrown Hare grunts]

- This is going to be the fastest river, ever! [grunts]

[Big Nutbrown Hare giggles]

- The ducks are ready!

- The river is, too!

- Ready,

set,

go!

- Go, Little Yellow Duck! - Faster! Faster!

- Come on!

- This will speed them up.

- [gasp] Mine is going so fast.

- Faster!

- Come on!

- And here's the finish line.

- Come on! Come on!

[both cheering]

- And the winner is--

- [both cheering] Come on! Come on!

- That duck!

[cheering]

- Whose duck is it?

- I don't know, but it was such fun, let's do it again!

[all cheering]

- Yes, it was fun!

Digging the hole, making the pond,

shaking the water off [giggles] having a race.

- You were mistaken, Big Nutbrown Hare!

- I was?

- Yes! You said it was hard to find fun in the rain.

But it wasn't hard, at all.

It was easy!

- Well, how about that?

- Hey, look, everybody!

- It's stopped raining! We can all play the color game now!

[all cheering]

- It looks like they found fun over there.

[Little Nutbrown Hare panting]

- Wait for me!

- Oh, look!

- I can see red!

- I can see orange!

- I can see purple!

- I can see pink!

- And yellow.

- And I can see another fine Spring Day, tomorrow.

[all gasp]

- [Narrator] Later, after the sun had gone to bed,

and all of the colors had all faded away,

it was time for Little Nutbrown Hare and his father

to go to bed, too.

- I had fun today.

- Even though it was raining?

- Because it was raining!

- [whispers] Guess how much I love you.

- [whispers] How much?

- More than all the raindrops in a spring shower. [grunts]

- Ooh.

[Little Nutbrown Hare laughs]

- Hey! [giggles]

Then guess how much I love you.

- How much?

- The same! [shakes water off]

[Little Nutbrown Hare laughs]
