- [Narrator] One fine morning Little Nutbrown Hare

and his father, Big Nutbrown Hare were out

discovering the joys of spring.

- Mm, these flowers smell beautiful!

- They're called honeysuckle.

- Honeysuckle? [sniffs]

- [Narrator] But theycertainly weren't the only ones

out and about enjoying the meadow that morning.

[sniffing]

- Do you see that little brown finch?

- Where?

Yes!

Hello, Little Brown Finch!

[chirping]

Aw, he's gone.

- Oh, nevermind.

There are other creatures to spot, like this one.

- Oh look!

A little blue butterfly.

Come back little blue butterfly!

[panting]

[sighs] He's gone too.

- Maybe he needed to go somewhere quieter.

- Maybe.

[gasps] Look a lizard!

Hmm...

Come out little stripey lizard!

He's hiding.

- Yes he is hiding.

In fact, that reminds me of a game.

it's called Hide and Seek.

Do you want to play?

- Oh yes!

Is that like Hide and Boo,

where we hide behind a tree and,

when somebody comes, we jump out and shout boo?

- [giggles] It is a bit like that,

but, with Hide and Seek you hide

and then you stay still and quiet until someone finds you.

Lets play!

- Yes! Lets play.

- I'm going to count to 10

while you run and hide, then I'll try to find you.

Ready?

- Ready!

- One honeysuckle, two honeysuckle,

three honeysuckle.

- I could hide here.

[gasps]

[panting]

Or here.

Hmm...

[gasps]

Or there!

[grunts]

This is a perfect hiding spot.

[giggles]

- 10 honeysuckle.

Here I come, ready or not!

Hmm...

[playful music]

[giggles]

- Look!

Look, over here, Big Nutbrown Hare!

- Oh.

Isn't this a great hiding spot?

- [laughs] Yes, its a wonderful hiding spot

but when you hide you need to be quiet,

so I won't know where to find you.

- Oh, yes.

I forgot to be quiet.

- [giggles] Lets try again.

Are you ready?

- Ready!

- One honeysuckle, two honeysuckle,

three honeysuckle.

[playful music]

- Where will I hide this time?

- Hello, Little Nutbrown Hare.

Eek.

Whoo!

- Hello, Little Field Mouse/

- [Big Nutbrown Hare] 10 honeysuckle.

- Shh! Quickly!

[both giggling]

Let's hide here!

- Here I come, ready or not!

- Why are we hiding?

- Big Nutbrown Hare is teaching me

how to play Hide and Seek.

You start off by hiding and then...

- I know! I know!

Is it the game when we hide

and when someone comes near

we jump out and say...

- [Both] Boo!

[exclaims]

[laughs]

- [gasps] Oh no!

I forgot to be quiet again!

- Well, you did manage to be quiet for a little while.

- Yes, I did!

We both did!

- But you'll need to be still,

as well as quiet, so I don't see you.

- Still as well as quiet.

- Let's try again.

Are you ready?

- [Both] Ready!

- I'll count slowly to give you plenty of time to hide.

One honeysuckle, two honeysuckle,

three honeysuckle...

[panting]

- We're near Little Grey Squirrel's tree.

Let's hide behind that!

- Good idea!

[ppanting]

- Huh?

- Hello Little Grey Squirrel!

- Hello!

[panting]

What are you two up to?

- Eh, we're hiding behind your tree!

- Oh.

Don't hide there!

I know a much better hiding place!

This way!

[panting]

- Huh, was it this way?

Hmm...

No. That way!

[panting]

- [Big Nutbrown Hare] Here I come!

Ready or not!

- Oh no!

- Keep going!

Not far now!

- No, Little Grey Squirrel!

We need to be quiet.

And still!

We need to be still!

- Yes! Still!

- Now?

- Right now!

- Everybody freeze!

- Here I come.

Aha.

Oh, there you all are!

I see you!

Hello, Little Grey Squirrel.

- [Little Grey Squirrel] Hello.

- Aw, but we were very still.

- And quiet, weren't we?

- Yes, you were very still and very quiet.

[laughing]

But you weren't hiding.

- I know.

This game is harder to play than I thought.

- Let's try again.

Practice makes perfect.

It'll be worth it!

- It will?

- It will.

- Then let's try again! [giggles]

- And let's try not to forget anything, this time.

- [giggles] Especially not hiding!

- Or being quiet!

- Or still.

[laughing]

- Okay.

One honeysuckle, two honeysuckle,

[giggling]

- We did it!

These are good hiding places!

- [Big Nutbrown Hare] Here I come!

Ready or not!

- Remember to be still.

- And quiet.

- Hmm...

Oh! [giggles]

[sighs]

- [Little Grey Squirrel] Ah!

[gasps]

- Hmm...

[giggling]

Hmm...

Well they're not here.

Maybe they're over this way.

[giggling]

- Hide and seek is fun!

[giggling]

[exclaiming]

Shh.

[gasps] That was amazing!

- I give up!

I can't find you!

- Woo-hoo! - Didn't find us.

- [Little Grey Squirrel] We're here!

- I saw a little brown bird!

- I saw a little blue butterfly!

- I saw a little stripy lizard!

- You saw all that?

- Yes, and we saw some big birds with long lovely tails!

- And one had a red face.

- And brown spotty wings.

- Oo, they sound like pheasants.

- Yes, and because we were still and quiet

they didn't see us!

- And they didn't run away!

- We're really good at hiding now!

- I love being quiet and still!

- [Narrator] On their way home,

Little Nutbrown Hare was full of wonder.

What a wonderful meadow

with so many wonderful creatures in it.

But there was something else he wondered about.

- If you had found us today

we wouldn't have seen so many creatures.

- Hmm, that's true.

- I wonder why you didn't find us.

You looked everywhere else.

- I wonder...

[grunts]

[giggles]

Guess how much I love you!

- Um, more than all the creatures we saw today?

- [giggles] Exactly!

- And I love you

more than all the creatures in the whole meadow!

Even the ones that are hiding.

[both exclaiming]

- That is a lot.
