- [Narrator] One morning, Little Nutbrown Hare

and his father Big Nutbrown Hare,

were out discovering the sweet smelling spring flowers.

- Ahh. What a lovely smell.

Look at this feather, Little Nutbrown hare.

- It's beautiful!

It's so soft! And so many colors!

This is my special feather.

- I'm going to show it to Little Field Mouse.

- Now, you have to hop to that tree and back!

- The bird can't hear you Little Nutbrown Hare,

its too high up!

- My special feather is gone.

and ask for your feather back,

- Its very special!

- Oh, there are lots of feathers.

I wonder if Little Nutbrown Hare's

Its big, soft, colorful, and spotted!

- Hello?

Little Red Bird!

Anybody home? Hmm.

- Little Nutbrown Hare's special feather can fly!

- And it can float!

- And it can draw!

- Oh!

- And it can tickle!

[giggles]

- It sounds like a very special feather!

[giggling]

- Little Gray Squirrel!

- Where's my feather?

- Well there were quite a lot of feathers up there.

- Including yours.

- I knew it was yours because it was big,

and soft, and colorful.

- And spotty! Yes! Yes!

- But I don't have it.

- You see, the Little Red Bird wasn't there.

I couldn't take the feather when no one was home!

- Of course, you couldn't do that!

- But will I ever see my special feather again?

[sighs]

- Did you say there were other feathers up there?

- Yes!

- Then I have an idea!

- If Little Red Bird loves feathers,

she's sure to come and take this one!

- Oh!

- And when she does, you ask her for

Little Nutbrown Hare's very special feather back.

- That's a great idea!

Where's Little Red Bird?

- She'll be along soon, we must sit and wait.

- And we must be quiet.

- I'm building my nest with it.

We make nests to lay our eggs in

and feathers make the nest so soft and warm!

- Like a soft, warm bed for the eggs?

- Cozy and comfy!

- Eggs need to be look after!

- There's a bird that's just finished building her nest!

[excited music]

- That's where my special feather is,

in Little Red Bird's nest.

- She made a bed for her little eggs!

- And when the eggs hatch

it'll be a warm bed for her chicks

- That's wonderful!

- What a lovely bed! - Soft and warm!

- But, did you say it was your special feather?

- Oh yes!

Its big, soft, colorful, and spotty!

- Then I'll go up and ask the Little Red Bird for it back.

I'm sure she won't mind.

- No, please don't!

Little Red Bird can keep my special feather.

It's for her and her family, I don't need it back.

- Oh, that's very kind of you.

I must get busy now, goodbye everyone!

- Bye! - Thank you Bluebird!

- [Narrator] That afternoon,

Little Nutbrown Hare was feeling as happy,

and proud, and excited, as could be.

- Ah! Here's a big hug, and I don't need it back!

[chuckles]

- Why?

[laughing]

- Remember my special feather?

The one that could fly, and float, and draw!

- Don't forget tickle! [chuckles]

[laughs]

- Well, this Little Red Bird

took it and used it to build her nest.

- And you let her keep it?

- Yes! And now its even more special,

because it can make baby birds feel

soft, and cozy, and warm.

- That is special.

- Guess how much I love you!

- Hmm. As much as the special feather?

- As much as all the feathers in all the nests in the woods,

and all the chicks they keep warm.

[sighs] - Oh look!
