[Weaving a Tale of Love]

[Episode 38]

[The Fifth Year of Yonghui Era, Wan Nian Palace]

[Wan Nian Palace]

Meiniang!

Meiniang!

Meiniang!

Replying to His Majesty, Lady of Bright Deportment Wu woke up early in the morning, saying she had to take care of Bao'er.

She ordered us to not disturb you from your deep sleep.

It has been raining for so long.

You can't go and frolic on the mountain.

You must be very depressed!

Lady of Bright Deportment Wu...

What's the matter, so early in the morning, Eunuch Wang?

Reporting to Lady of Bright Deportment Wu,

Lord Magistrate Pei returned.

He is now waiting outside.

asking to see His Majesty.

This Wan Niang Palace is administered by Wan Niang Prefecture.

Lord Magistrate Pei is the County Magistrate of Chang'An. He turned up uninvited.

He must have heard that Attire Expert Kudi

has come along the imperial procession to escape the summer heat in Wan Niang Palace.

What is Shou Yue suffering this time for?

Even though he might find a reason to show before His Majesty,

Liu Li is here.

How could His Majesty not be aware of the real reason he wants to come here for?

Why haven't you convinced him already?

I tried to...I have tried to use reasoning with him.

But this time, Lord Magistrate Pei is so determined to see His Majesty.

I am afraid he doesn't even try to make up an excuse anymore!

As if he wants to speak bluntly.

In fact, Lord Magistrate Pei returned yesterday.

I didn't even dare to report this to His Majesty.

But who would have even imagined that he would have been waiting in the rain, for the entire night?

I did not have the heart to leave him hanging like that,

so I promised I would report.

By no means you can let His Majesty know that Lord Magistrate Pei showed up here.

Yes.

His Majesty should also be awake already. Go attend him.

I will also show up there later.

Yes.

Yu Liu...help me run some errands.

Attire Expert Kudi knows that Your Majesty can't withstand the summer heat,

They specially changed the leather for scripts to create a coat.

When worn, it is calm and cool.

It's been already five years.

Liu Li still doesn't want to accept my heart.

I can't bear forcing her.

I am unwilling to let her go, for her to be with Pei Xingjian.

I am afraid she is bored in the palace,

that's why I especially brought her to Wan Nian Palace to escape the summer heat.

I didn't actually want her to do this laborious work of crafting clothes for me.

A'Sheng, you don't have to attend me.

When you have time, accompany Liu Li in her strolls.

I tried to convince her to move around a little bit,

come have a chat with Your Majesty and Lady of Bright Deportment Wu.

What did she say?

She said she did not like lively environments.

Yesterday, she even speciallyl moved into the highest elevated Dressing Tower.

Attire Expert Kudi said that even though Dress Tower is far from the main hall,

But the ground is high, the view is nice, and there is no one to interrupt.

She wants to draw a landscape image there,

make it into a screen as a birthday present for Your Majesty.

Your Majesty!

- What happened Meiniang? - I can't see my precious dove.

I have been looking for it all over. I don't know where it flew to.

How is this a good sign?

Could it be that it missed the palace and returned to it by itself?

Don't be alarmed, Meiniang!

Wait a while. I will send people to look for it.

A'Sheng, go!

Yes.

This is something Lady of Bright Deportment Wu ordered me to hand out to you.

She said that when you saw this,

you would know what you have to do.

[Dressing Tower]

It has already been raining for seven days, without any break.

Moreover, it has been raining even more.

I actually like rain.

The rain hinders the journey on the mountain path.

No people have come lately because of it.

Attire Expert Kudi!

Attire Expert Kudi?

How comes you are here, during such a big storm!

I have heard that you wanted coal and oil.

I have prepared it and asked people to bring it.

I have asked people to put it at the back storage.

Attire Expert Kudi, you can use it whenever you like.

These small matters, you don't need to bring it, Eunuch Wang.

Look at you, you are all soaked!

His Majesty heard you needed charcoal for the stove.

Afraid it is cold here and you would get chilly.

If it is so,

let me drive you down the mountain.

I need charcoal so I could brew some gelatin.

Once the gelatin is brewed, dilute it with alum water,

use brush to brush layer by layer on the silk fabric.

Once the silk is brushed and dried, then I can draw on it.

Those oils have other purposes.

They can warm the plates when I dissolve the paints.

Before you even pick up the drawing brush, there are already so many steps in order to make the screen.

My brain hurts by just listening to it.

This is you being crafty,

and you have this much patience.

Eunuch Wang, Magistrate Pei Xingjian of Chang'An came.

He said there is an urgent matter he needs to report to His Majesty.

I have understood.

Attire Expert Kudi, I still have other affairs, I will leave now.

If you still need anything, ask someone to tell me.

Thank you, Eunuch Wang, the floors are slippery with rain.

Take care on your way, Eunuch Wang!

Yes.

It is not time, you cannot be in a rush.

If you can see Liuli, it is your good fortune.

If you overstep even a bit, beware that you will hurt yourself and hurt other people.

Look, Your Majesty.

This really is Bao'Er.

Shouyue, where did you find Bao'er?

I heard that His Majesty has asked people to look for Bao'Er.

I remembered that Bao'er used to fly between Ganye Temple and Tai Ji Palace

to pass messages many times between Your Majesty and Lady of Bright Deportment Wu.

It is as long as 2 years.

I didn't think I really found Bao'Er.

How did I not think of Ganye Temple?

It looks like Bao'Er regards friendship highly.

It still remembered the road to Ganye Temple, in a rainy day, it still flew so far.

Meiniang, now you can be at ease.

Bao'Er is mine and Your Majesty's bird.

In my most hardest times,

it saw my friendship with Your Majesty.

If you have gone missing, I would be thinking of you deeply.

This time is all thanks to Pei Mingfu.

Shouyue,

Thank you.

I will be taking my leave.

It is a rainy night tonight, the road is hard,

Your Majesty, the night road is not easy to go.

How about...

you should stay here at Wan Nian Palace tonight.

When the weather gets better tomorrow, then go back.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Eunuch Wang ordered the kitch to make cold noodles for you, Lord Magistrate Pei.

Please use, Pei Mingfu.

-Thank you. -Yes.

This guest room is really elegant, it does not look like a temporary stay.

I wonder who lived here before?

This room's location is well and the sight is nice,

it was for Attire Expert Kudi to live in.

I don't know why but Attire Expert Kudi has insisted on moving to Dressing Tower at the mountain top.

Mountain top?

Then isn't it far from the stay? Isn't it not convenient?

That's right. The mountain trail is winding, and there's been rain storms for days.

It's extremely difficult to go through, so few people go there.

Attire Expert Kudi prefers quiet. Even when His Majesty holds a feast and invites her,

She is drawing peacefully up the mountain.

Look, that high place where it's lit, that's Dressing Tower.

Tonight's rain is heavy, so you cannot see clearly.

♫ As long as I close my eyes ♫

♫ I can see you back ♫

♫ as you rush forward without a care ♫

♫ as you rush forward without a care ♫

♫ You pass by the wind if the flowers are like falling ♫

♫ I think it's all my fault ♫

♫ I can’t see you smiling while sad ♫

♫ I can’t see you smiling while sad ♫

It is late, outside is full of lightning.

Sitting in front of the opened window, be careful to catch a cold.

Everyone down the mountain has already slept, you should also sleep early.

♫ Turn around and walk out of the wind and rain for us ♫

♫ But I love you more than all this ♫

Why is the room you used to stay in lit up?

Is it Pei Mingfu?

♫ To guard with my back ♫

♫ Be the flower on your temple ♫

♫ Flowers that can’t be blown by the wind ♫

Tonight's road is hard to go on,

I think His Majesty must have had him stay for a night.

It is him. It must be him.

Look, Pei Mingfu has also closed his light and gone to sleep.

You should also sleep early.

Mountain torrent. It is mountain torrent!

Liuli.

What's wrong?

The mountain torrent has come! Everyone hurry up and beat your metal pans!

Report to the people down the mountain, hurry!

Hurry!

Liuli! Liuli!

Liuli! Stop!

Where are you going? It is so late and there is mountain torrent!

Are you looking for death?!

I have to go down the mountain to save people. Pei Xingjian is still there!

Liuli, don't go! Come back!

Liuli!

It is you.

It really is you.

Sorry.

I have come late.

Pei Mingfu, hurry up and take Liuli to leave!

The world is big, go wherever you want!

Today, this rain will cause many deaths.

Hurry up and leave! No one will know the truth!

The chance is hard and it won't come again.

Hurry up and leave!

Hurry up and leave!

Mountain torrent! Mountain torrent!

Hurry up and leave! Mountain torrent!

Hurry up and leave!

Leave! Leave!

Mountain torrent! Hurry up and leave!

Mountain torrent! Hurry up and leave!

Mountain torrent! Hurry up and leave!

Your Majesty, why is there so much water?

Your Majesty, outside is about to be flooded!

Replying to Your Majesty and Lady of Bright Deportment Wu, it's completely dark in the mountain.

You cannot see the mountain road clearly,

many people who have escaped up the mountain have also been flushed away.

This is more ominous than propitious, what should we do?

-Where's Pei Xingjian? -How did I forget about Pei Mingfu?

Shulan, hurry up and find Pei Mingfu!

I have already looked for him, he is not in the room.

-Look again! -Don't look!

This is fate and people's thoughts.

He probably has already took Liuli to leave faraway.

This is also good, they used this time to make it good.

Your Majesty, it is urgent, let's hurry up and leave.

Forgive me for coming late to save Your Majesty. Please come with Lady of Bright Deportment Wu to follow me quickly out of here.

Shouyue?

Your Majesty, you should not stay here long.

I will take Your Majesty and Lady of Bright Deportment Wu to go up the mountain.

The mountain road is winding and muddy, and the rain storm is huge.

You cannot see the road clearly, how can you go up the mountain?

Liuli has already thought of a plan.

Please come outside, you will know once you see.

Hurry up and look there is fire light up the mountain! We can see the road!

We have hope!

Hurry up and go!

We have hope! Everyone let's go!

Your Majesty, let's hurry up and go.

[Hall of Magnificent Sky]

Isn't that Dressing Tower?

Liuli, Liuli is still up there!

Your Majesty and Wu Zhaoyi rest assure.

Liuli is fine. She set fire to Dressing Tower to light the way for Your Highness and Lady of Bright Deportment Wu.

This is what Liuli came up with.

In order to make painting, Attire Expert Kudi asked for coal and oil,

I can't believe it has been used for this!

Shouyue!

I thank you.

And I represent everyone else who is rescued tonight,

to thank you guys.

You're welcome, Your Majesty.

Please follow me, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty. The mountain torrent is dangerous. Please hold onto my arm.

I'll take you up the mountain.

Your Majesty, Attire Expert Kudi has arrived.

Greetings, Your Majesty.

No need to be so formal.

The thunderstorm a few days ago,

you and Shouyue save me and Meiniang, and everyone else.

I have asked you to come to reward you.

As to what to reward, I have thought hard a few days.

I am in Your Majesty's service, so I'm just doing my duty.

I don't dare to ask for any rewards.

At Bureau of Imperial Attire, everything is well.

You have already given more than enough, there is nothing missing.

So Your Majesty, you really don't need to give anything.

Your answer really is as expected.

Ever since I have become emperor,

You and me, Shouyue and me,

You guys have all been really formal.

Only greetings, there is less friendship.

I really miss the days before becoming emperor,

the moments at East Palace.

That was when I was young and naive.

Liuli. You don't need to be so careful in front of me.

Liuli. You say you have nothing to ask for, you don't need anything.

But I have thought of a reward.

It must be what you want most.

It is just that I am hesitant.

I really am not willing to reward it to you.

Have you thought clearly?

If you reject now, don't regret it later on.

How about I retreat the reward thought now?

Your Majesty, you still have not said what you will reward me.

Why- Why have you retreated it?

You just said you didn't want rewards, why are you changing your mind now?

It has been 5 years.

You have been doing what you should in the palace all this time.

You've live d a life that asks not and wants no, plain as water.

Only in the moment just now,

in that moment,

I saw that active Liuli.

The Liuli with hope in her eyes.

I shouldn't trap you in this palace.

As you wish,

I reward you to leave the palace.

For you to live the life you want.

See the person you want to see.

Is what Your Majesty speaking of real?

There is no false.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Thank you, Your Majesty for the reward.

This time you have done great things, the reward cannot be no less.

The jewelry behind me are used by the royal harem.

I especially reward it to you.

If there is a day where we see each other again,

I hope the person standing in front of me,

is still this beautiful Liuli.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Stand up.

After you leave the palace, without my protection,

you have to be safe and happy.

Whatever is yours, will be yours in the end.

It is returning to it's rightful owner.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Have a look.

All these years, I've been fortunate to have Sister Wu take care of me.

I dare not say a simple thank-you for such benevolence.

This time I am leaving the palace, I am not sure when we will meet again.

I hope you will have good health.

You and Shouyue have mutual affection.

Loved ones can be together, I am happy for you.

Liuli, you are sensitive more than men,

to speak frankly, I really don't want you to leave.

But, everyone has one's own aspiration.

I can only hope you will do as you want.

But after you leave this palace gate,

His Majesty and I cannot protect you no longer.

You have to be well.

Thank you Attire Expert Kudi for saving our lives.

We three can never return back to the very beginning.

Your highness, regrets it?

For those two to be happy, it's better than for the three of us to stay in pain.

Letting Liu Li leave the palace to be together with Shou Yue,

is something I am perfectly happy with.

[Dragon Riding Pavilion]

Liu Li! I have been waiting for you!

Liu Li! Do you know how scared I have been these days?

I was scared I would miss the only chance to take you with me!

If His Highness hadn't let you leave the palace,

I would have regretted it my whole life.

With no way to forgive myself.

Your explanations sound beautiful.

I don't believe you would have disregarded all those people's lives

and taken me away.

I never regretted risking my life to go down the mountain to save people

What I regret...

was that I didn't take you away.

I, once known as Attire Expert Kudi, I have lost my official position.

I have also become a poor and humble Hu woman.

I don't know how Lord Magistrate Pei will find a suitable place for me.

Liu Li

I want to make you my wife.

We will never be separated, from life until death. We will do well.

I do.

In case you don't know,

I am the famous disaster star in Chang'an City.

When we are together, we are fated to have turbulence.

Are you afraid?

Having you by my side

there's nothing I will fear.

[Su Residence]

[Hall of Great Ideals]

Master, Madam,

This is Attire Expert Kudi, the one I want to get married to.

Greetings General Su, greetings Madam.

Alright. Alright.

Shou Yue has talked about the problems you have faced.

Shou Yue's mother and father have passed away long time ago.

Besides the clan members, he has no other family members.

Ah, right! Regarding your wedding, either my wife or me

will arrange it for you.

There's a separate yard to Shou Yue's residence.

We have already discussed it over with Shou Yue.

Before getting married, you may spend a few days in our mansion.

When the big day arrives, you should return to you father's house.

And wait for Shou Yue to help you cross the threshold with the big sedan.

Thank you for your good intentions, General Su, Madam.

But in fact, Liu Li doesn't want to return to her father's house.

She also doesn't want to bother General Su.

How about Shou Yue sends me to my uncle's house, for a short period?

He has opened up a silk fabric shop in the West Market.

My uncle's family really dotes on me.

If they are to know I will live there, they will for sure be very excited!

Liu Li, we want you to live here for your own good.

Also for your family's safety.

Liu Li, you must know, that getting married to Shou Yue overnight

you will become the thorn in the eyes of

Duke of Hedong's household and the the Zhongjuan branch of the Pei clan.

You must know that Shou Yue's first wife, Lu Qiniang,

has been hounded to death by them.

Shou Yue, so you have been married before.

Liu Li, at that time I came to Chang'an to take the Imperial Civil Examination.

and to marry, that's why I accidentally met you.

The reason I did not tell you about Qiniang...

First of all, I could not find the appropriate timing.

Secondly, Qiniang's death...

has always been a thorn deep hidden in my heart.

Years ago, Shouyue's father and older brother planned to surrender to Great Tang,

they were executed along with three generations by Wang Shichong. (Wang tried to reign after the fall of Sui dynasty)

At that time, the Xijuan Pei branch of Pei family's patriarch, Sir Pei, was respected.

Shouyue's mother entrusted him to Sir Pei.

Emperor Gaozu and Shouyue's father were old friends.

Later, the emperor posthumously promoted Shouyue's father, and after Sir Pei's persuasion,

also returned the estate.

Sir Pei promised that

when Shouyue is married, the estate will be returned to him.

How much is this estate?

It's not important how big this estate is, I don't really care.

It's just that Father and Older Brother's failed revolt

dragged down the Zhongjuan branch of Pei clan. Some were stripped of their properties, and others were executed.

As the heir of Zhongjuan Pei, I am obligated to take care of them.

Therefore my mother arranged for my marriage with Qiniang early on,

So I could get the assets and be the owner of Pei.

If I remember correctly, the Duke of Hedong, son Minister Pei,

married Grand Princess Linhai, who is the current emperor's aunt.

Princess Mother-in-Law, you told me to pay attention to Pei Shouyue's marriage situation.

This daughter-in-law dare not slack.

So I have something to report to Princess Mother-in-Law.

That Lu Qiniang has died for many years.

Pei Shouyue has stayed single all this time.

Could it be that he plans to remarry?
