There you are.
What's with that cheeky grin of yours?

Thank you.

You're looking gorgeous.
CARMEN: Well, you look pretty dapper yourself.
Oh thanks.

Honey, you okay today?
Bored I think.
What is it?
Maybe I should paint?
Now you're talking.
I mean, it has been a while.
It's a great idea,
I mean, if not only for your benefit,
but if you win another award,
then we can always use the cash, right?
Kidding.
Well, you're doing alright
with all your bloody castings and whatnot.
True.
You know when I was younger,
when I was first starting out as an artist.
Sorry, yes, darling.
I said when I was younger,
whatever I used to paint would come true.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
What do you mean?
I mean, if I sat and concentrated hard enough
and then put paint to canvas,
whatever I used to paint would eventually come true.
What like a seer or something
where you actually painted future events?
Something like that.
So hang on a second let me get this straight.
You sat down.
You painted.
I would blindfold myself.
For real?
Yes, I would sit blindfolded,
and whatever I'd paint would eventually come true.
Honey, that's crazy.
Have you kept some of these pictures?
Perhaps, I'll have to check.
I didn't know that about you.
Something I don't share often.
Well, come on let's get you painting.
I wanna see if you've still got some of these skills.
Tell you what.
You go and get the art stuff ready.
I'll go and try and find a blindfold.

Nice.
Honey, do you know where I put the blank canvas?
What?
Hang on.
Aha, gotcha.
Oh, I just found it.
What?
(GASPING) Where did you find that?
I found it in one of your draws.
I think it's from one of your old nightgowns.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Okay, I'm ready.
So I just blindfold you, right?
Yep.
And then what?

(CARMEN BREATHING HEAVILY)
(THUNDER RUMBLING)
Today we welcome Carmen McKenna, an artist from Australia.
Could you please introduce yourself and tell us your story?
Hi, thank you for having me.
I'm a passionate artist.
My cultural background is of British
and Slavic eccentricity coming from my parents.
But I am a true Australian;
in that, I love finding absurdity in every day life.
I also have a sensual
and spiritual approach to every day life.
My outlook is very much like that.
So tell us how did you fall into your style?
Some think surrealists are perhaps a little weird.
How do you feel about that?
I fell into my style primarily through my imagination.
I'd start out just painting,
randomly onto a canvas whether it's just brush strokes
of whichever colour that inspires me.
However, through that painting,
I would sometimes find an object,
which to me would look like something.
That would spur me on to painting,
something within that canvas or on that canvas.
So I can't predict how my art work would come out.
It's surreal in the way that sometimes
you wouldn't expect to see that object on to that canvas.
And often it will symbolise something else.
So it is surreal in that sense,
and if that makes me weird, then I'm happy to take that
because I would hate to be ordinary and predictable.
So how did your parents feel when you told them
you were going to be an artist for a living?
Naturally they were worried.
As we all know artist aren't...
Well, their future isn't predictable.
Again, the word.
However, they knew that I was my most happiest
when I'm creating.
And plus it helped that I did achieve some awards.
Great, and what about your tools of the trade so to speak,
and do you have a preferred medium?
Okay, my tools of the trade are typical acrylic brush.
Also it depends on what inspires me at the moment
and what my mood is drawn to.
Often though I will just use what's around me.
It depends on the effect as well that I'm trying to achieve.
Sometimes I might use a tissue,
but look I always put 100% of myself into the artwork.
Could you describe for us your typical start to finish
work flow when working on a new piece of artwork?
Sure, so depending on who the artwork is for,
if it's for a client, then I will sketch
as much as I can and onto a canvas.
Then I will just to provide some structure,
and then I will apply paint to achieve
the idea that we've agreed on.
However, if it's for myself,
well, then I'm more relaxed and I'm more spontaneous.
I don't need to sketch as much.
Well, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.
It really depends but I'm more liberal and spontaneous.
Lovely, and lastly have any famous artists influenced you?
If so, who and how.
No artists have influenced me
because my artwork I consider it as quite organic.
I can't really even describe my artwork.
As you can see, it is surreal.
So I haven't really been influenced by anyone.
However, I do admire Salvador Dali
for being the iconic surrealistic painter that he is.
I love Matisse for his bold style.
I love Renoir for his romance
and his fluid brush strokes,
and I love Ken Done because he's that iconic
Australian artist who's great with colour.
Great, thank you so much for your time today, Ms. McKenna.
It's been a true honour to speak with you,
and we look forward to seeing more
of your work in the future.
It's my pleasure.
Well you heard it first folks,

The thought of death used to scare me.
I'd lay awake in bed for hours just
thinking about the pointlessness of it all.
My chest would start tightening up,
and I'd start jumping from one thought to the next
and suddenly I felt like my head was gonna explode.
When you used to lie awake at night thinking about
how pointless life is, your chest would tighten up.
You felt you couldn't breathe and death scared you.
Does the idea of death still frighten you?
I actually find it rather calming.
Now you find it calming.
Do you find yourself thinking about death a lot?
I mean, we all think about it, right?
I'm sure at one point or another everyone's had the fantasy.
A fantasy?
Fantasy.
How would it affect the world if I ended it all.
You build up this idea in your head that
it would touch the lives of everyone you've ever known.
Those who have done the wrong thing by you
would blame themselves.
The people who love you would avenge you.
That's what you imagine.
You certainly could tell people how you feel
about them now while you're alive.
I don't like confrontation.
Do you believe in God?
I hear you say you don't believe in confrontation,
and then you confront me with a question about God.
We always talk about me.
Yes, but isn't that what we're here for, Stephanie?
We both know why I'm here.
I mean don't get me wrong
I really do cherish the time we spend together.
But lets not delude ourselves into thinking
I had a choice in the matter.
You really cherish it.
You cherish your time here
even though you had no choice.
You've started to open up a lot
over the last couple of sessions.
I think we're really making some progress.
Wow, I bet you say that to all the girls.
What ultimately are you wanting
to achieve out of these sessions?
You didn't answer my question.
Stephanie, this is your time.
We're here to talk about you.
Seriously, what you can't give me one straight answer
to the only question I've ever asked you.
I'm wondering whether you asked me about my beliefs
because religion is important to you somehow.
STEPHANIE: Fuck it.
Would it help you to know I believe
it's really important to hold onto hope.
Hope?
Now sit down.
Seriously, hope?
Hope for what?
That's there's a second life better than this one,
or that life will eventually be less shit
because it's all over.
Doesn't that kind of contradict the whole
anti-suicide ideals of your profession?
Would you like to sit down?
(DOOR CREAKING)
She's still here.
What?
I can't take this anymore.
It's an invasion of privacy.
But you did tell her to leave, right?
Maybe she's still packing up her stuff.
She knows this.
She should've been gone by now.
Look at the time.
It's been hours.
I told her to leave by the time we'd get back.
God you really don't like her being here anymore do you.
No, and I don't like the way
she's been looking at you either.
(CELLPHONE RINGING) God, what now?
It's Kelly.
Hey, Kell, what's up?
KELLY: Hey, how are you?
Good well, Julian and I just got home.
KELLY: Okay, look I don't mean to keep you,
but I just have to ask you something.
CARMEN: Shoot, what is it?
KELLY: Well, it's kind of embarrassing.
I'm actually really uncomfortable telling you this.
It's okay we're practically family.
Just tell me I can handle it.
KELLY: You know when I came over the other day,
I left my bag on the kitchen table.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Go on.
KELLY: Well, it's just that my purse has gone missing.
What?
KELLY: Yeah, I know it sounds awful,
and I would never accuse you guys of anything like that.
It's just that I've checked everywhere,
and I still can't find it.
The last place I took it was to your house,
and as soon as I got back to mine I couldn't find it.
Jesus, Honey, no it's okay.
You have a right to ask.
Let me have a proper look for you.
KELLY: Thanks so sorry to stress you out.
Oh, Jesus.
No, no, of course, of course let me see.
KELLY: And Carmen.
Yes?
KELLY: You might wanna check with that Stephanie girl too
while you're at it.
Roger that.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
That little bitch.
(CELLPHONE RINGING)
Honey, it's Rick I better take this.
When it rains it pours.
It won't be anything more than a minute, I promise.
That's okay I'll deal with her myself.
Ricky what's going on brother?
RICK: Mate you got a sec?
Yeah, of course man for you, what's up?
RICK: Remember when you were telling me about the
Stephanie girl staying at your house
I said the name sounded familiar?
Yeah, as a matter of fact I do.
RICK: Well here's the thing.
You said her name is Stephanie Mitchell is that right?
Yeah man that's right.
RICK: Bingo, dude I photographed her she's a model.
Well, at least she used to be.
What?
RICK: Yeah, true story.
She went by another name then, Stephanie Stevens.
The reason I remembered is because
at the time I felt sorry for her.
For real?
Jesus man, what happened?
RICK: She had potential, real potential,
but just got in with the wrong crowd,
the casting couch if you know what I mean.
Christ, not another one.
RICK: Last I heard she moved back to the country
with her tail between her legs.
Sound like our girl?
If I had to bet, yeah, it does make sense to me.
RICK: Yeah, well as a mate
I had to tell you just in case.
Thanks man I appreciate that.
Good work, Sherlock Homey.
(FOOTSTEPS STOMPING)
Stephanie!
Stephanie, you said you'd be cleared out by now!
come on this is getting silly!
(SIGHING) Over this.
Steph, can you hear me?
Are you okay?
Can you speak?
(OMINOUS MUSIC)
So I know you wanted me to go, but.
But what?
I'm not sure your husband feels the same way.
Julian what's he got to do with this?
Maybe you should ask him.
What the hell does that mean?
We don't hide any secrets.
He's my man.
Why don't you start looking for one of your own.
Well, let me ask you this.
Just between us girls,
when's the last time you sucked his cock?
You and him, no way.
Get your bags and leave my house now.
Witch, I've seen your secret smiles.
Honey, you okay?
I've gotta tell you what Rick just said on the phone.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC)
CARMEN: Babe, watch out!
(GLASS SHATTERING)
Well if I can't have him, you can't either.
You crazy bitch.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC)
You have no idea who you're fucking with.
I will kick your ass from yesterday to tomorrow.
Julian.
Julian.
Did she suck your?
She tricked me.
I thought it was you.
I'm sorry it was a mistake.
I love you, Carmen.
Come on bitch show me what you got.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
(WOMEN GASPING)
Hey, babe, did I ever tell you I learned Karate?
Winner by knockout Stephanie Stevens!
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Now don't you go anywhere.
I'll be right back.
Carmen.
Honey, get the crowbar.
Use it.
Knock her out.
Show-and-tell time family.
What do we have here?
It's a portrait of...
It kind of looks like me, doesn't it?
And this.
Well, this is a picture of you, Julian.
Carmen said you were my soulmate.
CARMEN: Don't listen babe.
He's a big boy.
He can handle himself.
See we were meant to be together.
But then she stole you away from me.
CARMEN: Don't listen to her, Julian.
You see I came looking for you, Julian.
I wanted you to represent me.
But I got that other fucking prick instead.
He did things.
So I went home.
Why?
To look after my fucking retarded brother?
She stole my fucking life, Julian.
Carmen took everything from me.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC)
(CROWBAR THUDS)
Okay, this is enough.
Stop it, Steph, it's over.
(STEPHANIE BREATHING DEEPLY)
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC)
(STEPHANIE PANTING)
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
