My dad and I recorded a song, "Mi Familia."

My name's Aaron Konzelman. I'm 39 years old.

I am from Waco, Texas.

My parents in the '60s and '70s were one of the first

contemporary Christian praise and worship writing groups.

They would pack us in the back of the RV

and head out across the country, and we would sit in our cribs

and watch while they played on the stage.

When they were tired from traveling,

they bought a few hundred acres right on the river,

and my dad built his recording studio.

I literally got to grow up like Huck Finn,

running through the woods

and shooting bows and arrows and playing music.

Lean in and kiss.

I met my wife in college.

She wandered into a music class.

We dated for about 11 months and then got engaged,

and we just immediately started doing music

at bars and clubs and festivals.

Probably about two or three years in, we have kids.

Being a dad and trying to be a professional musician

is really difficult, and so, over the years,

I have had a lot of jobs.

I've worked for a lot of churches

doing sound and music.

I owned a leather company making wallets and bags.

I have taught karate.

I definitely am a jack of all trades

and a master of none of them.

It's blowing my mind that I'm even here.

My kids are really, really psyched,

my daughter in particular, because she loves "The Voice."

She has posters in her room.

I see them as life changers.

It's just incredible.

He's an actor and a pop star.

He's had amazing success with the Jonas Brothers

and as a solo artist.

Kelly Clarkson has one of the best voices in music.

I mean, she has an Emmy‐winning talk show.

And I love that she continues to work with the artists

even after the show.

Woman #John Legend ‐‐ he's a phenomenal songwriter...

Yeah! ...social justice advocate.

Man #He's at the top of my list of guys I look to

and draw inspiration from.

These are people I've looked up to my whole life.

Just getting the chance to sing in front of them

in general is incredible.

My name is Carolina Rial.

I'm 17 years old, and I'm from Ridgefield, New Jersey.

I was constantly surrounded by music

ever since I was really young.

And when I was around 10 or 11,

I started to realize I loved to sing.

When I was 14, I posted a cover on Instagram.

♪ When I lay this burden down... ♪

Jennifer Hudson ended up reposting it,

and the video reached 200,000 views in a week.

That definitely gave me confidence.

In real life, I'm just, like, this normal high‐school girl,

and then I step onstage and I become this artist

that I've always wanted to be.

I'm a first‐generation American.

My mom is from Bolivia, and my dad came here from Spain.

He came on a boat, he was only 17,

and he had $17 in his pocket.

I never really got to have a conversation with my dad,

but my mom told me

that he's always been really musically inclined.

Growing up, the hardest part for me

was learning at such a young age

that I'm gonna grow up without my dad.

When I was 3, my dad was diagnosed with cancer,

and he passed away.

My mom was left behind with three kids.

I could still see it in her eyes till this day

how much she went through.

It just makes me so proud to call her my mom.

This is a big thing for her.

I want her to do what, really, she would love to do.

I would support that 100%.

Till this day, everything that I do

has been for my family.

That's my number‐one goal here.

And I want to do this for people who've always supported me

from the beginning.

Growing up wasn't always easy.

We lived paycheck to paycheck in a trailer.

Not having a whole lot, I learned if you want something,

you got to work hard for it, you got to earn it yourself.

So I work two jobs.

One of them's at the dog groomer's.

I make sure that the dogs are clean enough

to get a haircut, pretty much.

I also work on a farm.

I help feed the horses and take care of the chickens

and help stack the hay.

I sing at fall festivals and talent shows,

but I'm hoping that after I finish out high school,

I can get a third job on the list

of playing and singing everywhere for people.

I've never flew in a big plane.

I've never been that far away from home, either.

Never in my life did I think I'd make it on a TV show.

I love expressing myself.

I've always been painting and drawing and making music.

My name is Yellsmiles.

I'm 30 years old, and I grew up in New Jersey.

As a kid, I was always super smiley.

And my real name is Danielle Escobar,

so the "Yell" is the end of my name.

So Yellsmiles.

My first time singing in public, I was like 7 years old.

I instantly was like, "I need to be on stage all the time."

To get myself ready to be a singer,

I started writing poetry.

I would write my own weird little songs that no one

is ever going to hear.

For the past five years,

I've been really developing my sound,

and I've been working on an album.

I know who I am as an artist now.

Being here today means that all of this work

that I've been putting in, it's really paying off.

I'm gonna sing "Midnight Sky" by Miley Cyrus.

It's about embracing your femininity and your independence

and knowing that you are good enough.

I'm Yellsmiles, and I'm from Sussex County, New Jersey.

What a name. That's so cool.

First of all, I feel like that could be my name.

No jokes, Blake. She's got the "yell" part right.

I felt this edge and this coolness in your voice,

but it was hard for me to narrow in

on what exactly your voice sounded like.

And so maybe do a song that breathes a little more

so you can showcase your voice

in a way that's a little more full.

I became more determined.

When I think back on me as a child,

I am so proud of myself for coming this far.

Finish it out. I've never had an opportunity like this.

Regardless of what happens,

it's the best experience of my life.

My name is Zae Romeo.

I am 21 years old, and I am from McKinney, Texas.

When I was 3 years old, I was placed into

the foster care system with my siblings.

It was a sad experience,

but that is just the foster care system.

It's not the best place to grow up in.

Some of the homes were great.

In a few of them, there was no love.

It's hard to grow up and be like,

"Am I going to eat tonight?"

Luckily, my siblings and I were kept together,

and when I was 6 years old,

we were adopted by the most amazing family ever.

We had three wonderful kids, and Shelly had said,

"Well, we need to help somebody else."

We looked on the computer,

and there was this picture

of all four of them.

It's okay.

And Jim said, "That's our kids," and that was it.

Our adoption day was fun. We had a little party.

They took each one of us back into this room,

and it was filled with just stuffed animals.

I had, like, this little monkey that had Velcro on the hands,

which I still have.

It was a big moment in my life and my siblings' life.

My family showed me so much love,

but I struggled bouncing around from house to house.

It all had an effect on me.

In high school, I hit the point where my self‐esteem was so low,

and even though my parents were super loving,

I just couldn't trust it, and so, middle of the night,

I just packed my bags and I just started walking.

The moment I realized he had left, I panicked.

We put up posters everywhere, and it was awful for 10 days.

I saw this poster, and I just remember

just dropping to the floor,

and I was just, like, sobbing.

I dialed my mom's number, and I was like, "Mom, it's me."

And she just broke down.

We were just so happy.

I do want to clarify that we did love you,

every inch of you, from the beginning.

And I know that now. You're one of the biggest joys in our life.

We love you a lot. Love you guys, too.

For my blind audition, I will be singing

"Falling" by Harry Styles.

I have known some dark times,

and so those words really speak to me.

To some little kid out there

who thinks that no one cares,

who you are is beautiful

and where you come from is beautiful.

Become stronger and better because of it.

Zae, I was born in Texas. I lived there for a long time.

He's also a Jersey boy, just throwing it out there.

But you came to Los Angeles to get away from home.

What a unique voice you have.

Such an awesome, endearing vibrato

that allows your voice to be as tender as you want it to be.

I don't know really what I can say here to convince you.

I think my best chances are to listen

to what the other three are gonna say

and then tear those pitches apart.

He's more of a negative campaigner.

Your performance, it had, like, interesting twists and turns.

I like the way the vibrato kind of fluttered down

at the lower part of your range.

And then when you went for the piercing notes,

that was different from the lower notes.

who have a real beautiful gift and an artistic flair.

What you did kind of embodied

I listen to that song so much,

I'd rather hear a person that didn't sing it perfectly,

but it was emotional and I believed it.

There were just a couple parts that were a little shaky,

and I think it was just because of lack of air.

Your quick vibrato, he was noting on the low notes,

but on the high notes, too, it's so pretty.

I don't even know a word ‐‐ it just does that at the top. Flutters.

and then let all these boys to what they should do.
