own miriam sweet treats bakery and i'm

here with owner and head baker jesse

so jesse you inherited this shot from

your grandmother miriam is that right

i did about five years ago she taught me

everything i know

sounds like a very special lady she was

my best friend

do you want to give us a tour sure

oh so this is actually my grandmother

teaching me how to bake

grandma's apron and that's actually a

photo from opening day

1955 when grandma opened miriam's sweet

treats

she was about the same age as me there

and oh that's actually the very first

bowl and spoon my grandmother ever used

which she inherited from her grandmother

flory baking runs in the family it seems

do you have any plans on changing the

bakery now that it's yours

no no our history is very much a part of

our story and

we're proud of the fact that our bakery

has remained unchanged for 65 years

of course um we're always looking for

ways to expand um have you told them

about the wedding cakes

due to popular demand we now do custom

wedding cakes

uh available for pre-order now shall we

miriam's sweet treats opened in 1955

when grandma was in her 20s

she's what like 10 here and why does the

building look so different

it's not merriam's sweet treats it's the

original bakery your great grandma

opened

florey's bake shop it was across town

florey's bake shop

grandma never mentioned that how did i

florey was the first person in our

family to open a bakery

it was world war ii and the economy

wasn't that great but

she was adored in her neighborhood so

she managed okay

when the war was over the economy boomed

florey's little 1940s bake shop wasn't

doing as well as it should have been

prices went up the neighborhood changed

her regular customers started dying out

she just couldn't keep up so

when your grandma miriam took it over

she knew she had to make some drastic

changes

so she moved it to main street here

because it was up and coming at the time

updated the look renamed it she created

and it thrived how did i not know this
