technus is a serious disease caused by a

bacterial toxin that affects your

nervous system

leading to painful muscle contractions

particularly of your jaw

and neck muscles tetanus can interfere

with your ability to breathe and can

threaten your life

tetanus is commonly known as lobster

diphtheria is a serious infection caused

by strains of bacteria called coron

bacterium diphtheria that make toxin

poison

it can lead to difficulty breathing

heart failure

paralysis and even death

whooping cough also known as pertussis

or the 100-day cough

is a highly contagious bacterial disease

initial symptoms are usually similar to

those of the common cold with a runny

nose

fever and mild cough but these are

followed by weeks of severe coughing

fits

tetanus and diphtheria toxoid and a

cellular pertussis vaccine

tdap minimum age

10 years for boostrix and 11 years for

adicell

boostrix is indicated for active booster

immunization against tetanus diphtheria

and pertussis in individuals aged 10

years and older

adicelle is immunization for prevention

of tetanus

diphtheria and pertussis as a single

dose in persons 10 through

64 years of age

1. administer at age 11 or 12 years for

those who have completed the

recommended childhood dtp dtap

vaccination series and have not

received a tetanus and diphtheria toxoid

booster dose 2.

persons aged 13 through 18 years who

have not received tdap

should receive a dose

free recommended interval from the last

td dose is 5 years when tdap

is used as a booster dose

however a shorter interval may be used

if

pertussis immunity is needed
