[Beyond the Realm of Conscience]

Episode Eighteen

If he did steal from me and rob the people, there must be traces to follow.

I'll conduct an investigation right away.

Although the assassin has escaped, I know where he is. I know his name too.

I'll conduct an examination to see who's broken the law.

General Ma, the wound you are looking for is here.

My dad's already bleeding so much.

Why do you want to aggravate his wound, General Ma?

Ko Yiu On is a chess master. He's addicted to playing chess.

His conduct was improper, but it's forgivable. This is my decision.

Ko Yiu On has broken the rules. He'll be dismissed from the post of chess master.

He'll become a commoner.

Your Majesty, Ko Yiu On has broken the rules in the palace.

He shouldn't be punished lightly. He shows no respect for the law.

He must be punished severely.

He should be executed right away to serve as a warning to others.

Ko Yiu On's indulged in chess playing.

He sneaked into Internal Services to see the tribute.

The Internal Services hasn't suffered any loss.

If he's sentenced to death, it will be too harsh.

Your Majesty, if the law isn't enforced, people won't obey you.

Ko Hin Yeung shows great justice turning his father in.

Your Majesty should sentence him according to the law.

Please do so, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, the ancient saints said before that justice is selfless.

Filial piety must be shown.

I turned my father in in the hope that

Your Majesty would have mercy on him and forgive him.

I'm willing to accept the punishment. Please spare my life, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, Ko Yiu On did break the law. He should be punished accordingly.

But Guard Ko is selfless. He turned his father in.

This can be used to set off the guilt.

Your Majesty can pass a lenient sentence on him.

As General Man has pleaded for Ko Yiu On, I'll spare his life then.

Lock him up in the imperial jail. He'll be exiled to the border after Fall.

Much obliged, Your Majesty.

It was so close just now.

I've failed to get the job done. I was discovered by them.

I even left my jade pendant there and gave Ma Yuen Chi the chance.

Don't be so harsh on yourself. You've already done your best.

I just want to know how you could figure out turning your father in.

Last night I went home wounded.

When I was putting on the bandage, my dad came in.

How come you're injured?

Ma Yuen Chi has embezzled the money for the drought victims.

I went to the Internal Services to look for the evidence for His Majesty.

But I was discovered and wounded.

Did anyone see you?

I masked myself. They couldn't tell it's me...

- Where's my jade pendant? - Did you drop it in Internal Services?

You and Ma Yuen Chi are the only people who have this jade pendant.

He will find out you did it for sure. He won't let you go.

I can't allow anything bad to happen to you.

I'll take up the responsibility for you.

I'm wounded. Ma Yuen Chi can easily find out by conducting an examination.

Dad.

This time your dad wounded himself to stop Ma Yuen Chi for the time being.

For my sake, not only you're wounded, so did your father. I feel uneasy.

Don't blame yourself for this, Your Majesty.

The root cause is actually that villain, Ma Yuen Chi.

He isn't just greedy, he's collected a whole lot of gold and silver.

He's even stolen from the imperial vault. He's pocketed the tributes.

The Cold and Warm Jade Chess is only one of them.

Ma Yuen Chi must be eliminated.

Your dad is in jail. We must save him too.

I'll figure out a way to deal with Ma Yuen Chi as soon as possible.

I'll eliminate him and restore peace in the country.

Then we can deliver your father from jail.

But given your current military power, it's really hard to fight him.

Even if we've got the evidence

I'm afraid he will turn against you immediately if he's exposed.

He will team up with his accomplices to fight you.

We are really in a difficult position.

Just now Man Kim Fung pleaded for your dad.

Although he's Ma Yuen Chi's student, he's a righteous person.

We need to find out his stand. I believe I can use him.

If we get this able assistant of Ma Yuen Chi to help us

your chance of winning will be greatly increased.

At this stage, I can't ask Ma Yuen Chi to surrender his military command.

But I can make him return the money and the tributes.

What's your plan, Your Majesty?

Right now the crops have failed in Cizhou and Xizhou. People are in misery.

The government should help the victims right away.

His Majesty doesn't come to the meetings.

How will he understand the people's plight?

Amazing... Amazing.

Come on.

Your Majesty is really amazing.

Hey General Ma, General Man, come over here.

Your Majesty.

It's good you two have come. Play with me. I hit the target every time.

See who of you can defeat me. Give them the arrows.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, I want to report something.

Go ahead, General Man.

The crops in Cizhou and Xizhou have failed due to the drought. People are in misery.

I hope Your Majesty will use the reserve to help them.

Some officials have already filed a report earlier.

They said there's a drought in Guanzhong.

I've already given them some money for the relief work.

Tang is a big country. There isn't just one place that's affected by the calamity.

People's lives are in danger.

I implore Your Majesty to open the vault to help the victims.

The drought is serious this year. It's never happened before.

Maybe God is unhappy with your administration. He's giving you a warning.

Your Majesty had better go to Mount Tai

to make an offering to God and pray for his blessing.

To make an offering to God?

It's so faraway. It will waste a lot of money.

General Ma, why do you make such a proposal at this juncture?

His Majesty fools around everyday.

Making an offering to God will help to stop people from criticizing His Majesty.

The trip will be tough. I'm afraid I can't manage.

If Your Majesty doesn't want to make an offering to God

you should still open the vault to help the victims.

Right. The treasure in the vault actually came from the people.

Let's use them to help the victims. It's from the people and for the people.

But no stocktaking has been done for the vault over the years.

We don't know how much money there is.

Why don't we take this opportunity to take an inventory.

There's much treasure in the vault.

I'm afraid it can't be done within a short period.

I'm willing to assist Your Majesty

in taking stock of the treasure as soon as possible.

Good. Then General Man and Guard Ko will assess the inventory.

Then we'll use the money to help the victims.

Yes, Your Majesty.

The people will be saved. I'm grateful to Your Majesty.

I suddenly remember a Japanese envoy has given me a set of Cold and Warm Jade Chess.

It's kept in the vault too.

When you two are taking the stock, please get it for me.

I want to play with it.

Yes, Your Majesty.

General, His Majesty wants to open the vault to take stock.

Shall I return the treasure to the vault first?

You do that. It's the fault of Man Kim Fung.

He's too honest.

He asked His Majesty to open the vault.

He gave a chance to Ko Hin Yeung to make the request for stocktaking.

Now I've got no choice but to return the treasure.

Actually if General Man can't accommodate your wishes

why do you still entertain him?

This student is good at fighting and tactics. He's gifted as a general.

Besides, he's in command of the military. I need him to strengthen my position.

Why don't you tell General Man what you want?

Then you two can work hand in hand against His Majesty.

I know his character very well. He's honest and righteous.

He won't do anything unfaithful or immoral. I can never tell him what's on my mind.

So you'll return all the treasure...

so they will be used to help the drought victims?

The delivery takes a long route.

There may be landslides. The bridges may collapse.

There may be a detour. Who knows?

The escort team will be our people. You can tell them where to go.

I don't care whether the money is for Cizhou or Xizhou.

In the end, most of them will only be delivered to my hometown, Xunzhou.

Your Majesty, General Man and I have taken stock of the vault.

Everything is recorded.

There's so much treasure in the vault over the years.

They include the Warm and Cold Jade Chess

the Gold Unicorn Ball, the Eight-Treasure Pot

the Five Phoenix, and the Sun picture.

There's also Ten Lucky Gold Animal figures.

As to the cash, there's a total of five million taels.

There's so much treasure and money in the imperial vault.

There are really so many tributes over the years.

Your Majesty has promised to use the money in the vault to help the victims.

I did say so. But we don't need to spend so much money on helping the victims.

You're showing hesitation, Your Majesty. Do you want to break your promise?

I just have some worries.

Earlier there's a report saying that the money for the victims

were pocketed by a lot of corrupt officials on the way.

The actual amount the victims got after the deductions was less than ten percent.

It isn't the case that His Majesty doesn't want to use the money.

He's afraid the money will end up in the wrong hands.

The corrupt officials rob the people for their personal gain.

They should be executed.

I'm a man who swears his words to heaven.

I guarantee with my head that I'll distribute every penny among the victims.

There won't be a penny less.

If I pocket any of it, I'm willing to be torn apart by five horses.

As you've given me your guarantee, General Man.

I won't worry about it anymore.

- Let's open the vault right away. - Yes, Your Majesty.

I want to go with General Man to escort the money as service to Your Majesty.

As Guard Ko has made such a kind offer, I'll make the decision as follows.

General Man and Guard Ko will work together to help the victims.

Yes, Your Majesty.

It's the Cold and Warm Jade Chess.

His Majesty told me to bring it to you.

Thanks to His Majesty. It's really warm in my hands. It's so amazing.

This time His Majesty is so clever to make Ma Yuen Chi return the money

to help the victims.

My imprisonment is worth it.

Although there's concrete evidence to prove that Ma Yuen Chi is corrupt.

His Majesty dare not make a move yet

when his military strength is still inferior to Ma's.

He needs to be patient. He mustn't make a reckless move.

Don't worry, dad.

His Majesty will figure out a way to save you before you're exiled to the border.

I have absolute confidence in both of you.

Cousin, you must really help Po Yin.

Last time she slapped Lady Lai. His Majesty is still mad at her.

He hasn't been to Fairy Chamber for a long time.

I notice His Majesty has ignored Po Yin, but it's only been five day.

It isn't too long.

Now it's five days. Who can tell what's going to happen in the days to come.

Maybe ten days or twenty days.

If this goes on, Po Yin will be sent to the remote chamber.

Cousin, you want her to grow old and die lonely in the palace?

How will she end up in the remote chamber?

I love Po Yin so much. Will I just sit back?

Will I allow her to suffer?

Cousin, what's your plan then?

Po Yin will become the queen. It's a matter of time.

Once I've made a decision, no one can stop it from happening.

You sound as if you've got a plan.

I got the news today that after a long period of drought in Cizhou and Xizhou

it rained suddenly.

Raining and Po Yin losing His Majesty's favor are two different matters.

Why do you mention it?

Who says they aren't related? The rain is something happy for Po Yin.

Look. It's a magic stone over there.

A magic stone? It's an ordinary stone.

If I call it a magic stone, then it is a magic stone.

This is the magic stone you want to give me, General Ma?

Yes, Your Majesty.

Where did it come from?

I found it on the bridge of the Heavenly Gate this morning.

There's a word on it. It's something natural. It's a sign of good luck.

There's a word on the stone?

It looks ordinary. But when I asked someone to copy the pattern.

I found a word carved on the stone.

It's the word Yin?

When the stone was found.

there's rain in Cizhou and Xizhou after a long period of drought.

When the stone appeared, there was rain. The stone brings good luck.

The word Yin suggests that there's a kind emperor on the throne.

It's a blessing for the people.

General Ma is right. If you look carefully at the stone, there's really the word Yin.

It's really a good sign.

The word Yin also suggests Lady Yin is a lucky person.

She's the only person qualified to become the queen.

If she carries a child for Your Majesty, you will get a successor.

You don't need to worry anymore.

So there is so much to learn about this word Yin?

Your Majesty should follow Heaven's will and make Lady Yin the queen.

Then you should build a Lady Yin Temple for people to worship the magic stone.

This will ensure that Tang's rule will carry on for thousands of years.

General Ma, you are so intelligent.

You can figure out so many things from just one word.

Thank you for your compliment, Your Majesty.

But I think the word Yin on the stone refers to something else.

The word Yin reminds one of the word Chai. There's the word Yin on the stone.

When I see it, I think of the word Chai.

Chai is on the east of Mount Tai Hang.

It's in Henan. Mount Tai is situated there.

You go to the peak of Mount Tai. The whole world is under you.

In ancient times, the emperors made offerings on Mount Tai in Chai.

I've received a report just now. It says there's very good harvest in Chai.

I feel so glad. Therefore, the word Yin actually reminds me of Chai.

I don't agree, Your Majesty.

The Analects said when you meet a virtuous man, you want to copy him.

When you see a vicious man, you will think about your own mistakes.

It means when you see someone virtuous you should learn from him.

You model on him.

This morning when I saw mom she told me she had a dream last night.

She saw an old man holding a bunch of grains in his hand.

He's giving them out to the people from morning till night.

But there isn't any grain less in his hand.

The old man the Empress saw in her dream must be the God of Grains.

He's handing out grains to the people. It suggests there will be good harvests.

People will get enough food. There won't be any drought again.

People get enough food as a blessing of God.

Therefore, the word Chai means I must go to Chai

and make an offering to God in Mount Tai.

This is God's will. Now General Ma has given me this magic stone too.

I finally understood what it means.

I've decided to send the magic stone to the temple in Mount Tai.

It will give its blessing to the people.

But Your Majesty said before that it's a waste of money to make offering to God.

Now you've changed your mind?

You're right. I don't want to give people so much trouble.

I want to send someone there on my behalf.

Right now the only person who can represent me is you, General Ma.

So I would ask you to escort the magic stone to Mount Tai on my behalf.

You do the offering for me. This is God's will. It's so important.

You must hit the road right away. Do you have any objection to it?

Will do, Your Majesty.

My lady, is this place faraway enough?

Let's go farther away.

There's more open space ahead. The wind's stronger there.

The kite can fly higher and farther.

Right. Put all the unhappy things on the kite and let it fly away.

I don't mean the unhappy things. I mean the things I treasure.

I just hope His Majesty would treasure me more.

Right. Recently His Majesty seldom came to Fairy Chamber...

I've talked too much. Please forgive me, my lady.

I'm found guilty already. I want someone to forgive me too. Forget it.

I don't want to drive you away too.

Come on out.

What are you two doing?

- Lady Yin. - Lady Yin.

What's going on?

A rabbit went inside. It can't come out.

We've done everything we could. We still can't help it.

The rabbit I'm carrying is wounded too. I wanted to take it back for treatment.

But it kept struggling as if it didn't want to leave.

Are these two rabbits together?

I don't know. But their legs and eyes suggest that they probably are.

If they are, this one wouldn't leave when the other one is inside.

If the one inside dies, this one won't live for long.

Now what?

To rescue the rabbit inside we need to break the stone.

No, my lady. This stone was placed here by Emperor Tai Chung.

People say he killed a monster here.

Then he wrote on this stone to commemorate this event.

We mustn't damage it. This is a serious offense.

The stone is dead. The rabbit is alive. What is more important than a life?

The priority is so obvious. Go get an axe from the guards.

Yes, my lady.

I've got a headache reading this book. Is His Majesty coming or not?

I've already given a red packet to Master Bao as you instructed.

He said His Majesty would be free today.

There's a very good chance he would come to Joy Chamber.

He's taken my red packet. He must make some contribution.

Even if His Majesty doesn't come today

he hasn't been to Fairy Chamber for half a month either according to Master Bao.

You should feel happy to hear this.

I didn't slap Lady Yin enough the other day.

I should have slapped her a few times more.

Here comes His Majesty.

- Your Majesty. - At ease.

Much obliged, Your Majesty.

Have I interrupted your writing practice?

Your Majesty can teach me how to write. How will you interrupt me?

Her ladyship works so hard.

She practices writing once she gets the time.

She said it's the duty of a lady to do so.

Fei Yin.

You are so hardworking, Lady Lai, I feel so glad.

It's the collection of Kuk Kong and the collection of To Yuen Ming?

The poem I love the most was written by Cheung Kau Ling.

Which poem is it?

'There's the moon over the sea. We are far apart at this hour.'

'The lovers miss each other at night.'

'They think of each other for the whole night.'

You just started? What are the words that you want to write?

I want to write the words prudence and care.

Why these two words?

Recently, I read a lot about what the saints said before.

One of them said if you are prudent and careful, you won't get into trouble.

I felt enlightened when I read it.

If I had learned that before, I wouldn't have come into conflict with sis Yin.

I wouldn't have put Your Majesty in a difficult position.

This is already over. You and Lady Yin go to see my mom everyday as usual.

I hope Your Majesty will treat sis as you did before, then I'll feel relieved.

You are so generous. The words prudence and care are really meaningful.

But I can't even hold the brush properly.

I'm afraid it would take a long time before I can write the words neatly.

Let me teach you.

You just need to practice more. Then you can write neatly.

Your Majesty, Lady Yin ordered the guards to

break the stone set by Emperor Tai Chung.

You mean Emperor Tai Chung's Stone of Monster Slayer?

Yes, Your Majesty.

How dare she!

Please don't get mad, Your Majesty. Mind your health.

His Majesty is so mad. Lady Yin is in deep trouble this time.

Here comes His Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Why did you break Emperor Tai Chung's Stone of Monster Slayer?

Your Majesty, it's because...

Do you know Emperor Tai Chung wrote on it personally

to commemorate his killing of the monster?

I know that.

You ordered someone to break it? How dare you!

I didn't do so recklessly, I have a cause in doing so.

The cause is you are spoiled. You are untamed.

Maybe you think I'm untamed and spoiled

but will you please listen to me first this time.

Don't be prejudiced against me.

Your track record is bad. You think you've got someone to back you up.

You are so arrogant. Your conduct is bad. You don't follow the rules.

Your Majesty, you've got her ladyship wrong.

Your Majesty, Lady Yin.

Are they alright now?

I've already given them some medicine.

I'm afraid you might worry about them so I've taken them here.

I thank your ladyship for saving the lives of these two rabbits.

What about saving lives?

This rabbit was trapped in the crack of the stone today. It couldn't move.

It's going to die. The other one was slightly injured.

But it wouldn't leave its companion. It refused to leave.

Her ladyship made the decision to break the stone and rescue the rabbits.

I know the late emperor wrote on the stone before.

But it can be fixed even though it's broken.

But if a life ends, you can't bring it back.

Her ladyship said the two rabbits should be together.

If the male rabbit died, the female rabbit wouldn't survive either.

Therefore, breaking the stone could save two lives.

As a woman, I do understand this feeling well.

It takes a companion to form a couple.

Without a companion, one will be so lonely.

I acted recklessly and upset Your Majesty.

Please punish me, Your Majesty.

Her ladyship was moved by the love between the rabbits.

So she took the risk to help them. She could tell right from wrong.

She's decisive. I'm far from her match.

Back then Emperor Tai Chung killed the monster

to keep the people and animals safe from it.

Today her ladyship broke the stone and saved the lives of the rabbits.

Both of them did so to help others.

I hope Your Majesty will therefore forgive her ladyship.

Get up.

Lady Yin did good deeds and showed good will.

I'll order someone to fix the stone. I won't pursue this further.

Thank you for your grace, Your Majesty.

Much obliged, Your Majesty.

Lady Lai.

Hey you, it's just the two of us. You still call me lady?

I haven't used these for so long. I'm not used to holding it in my hand now.

This should be the case. Now you are a lady.

You don't need to care about what you did before as a maid.

Shall I forget my good sister before too?

If your ladyship really want to forget me, there's nothing I can do.

You are so mean. I come to see you since I'm unhappy. You still tease me?

What's the matter?

His Majesty went to Fairy Chamber more often in the past couple of days.

He's got the company of Lady Yin. He doesn't need my company now.

Thanks to you for talking Lady Yin up before His Majesty.

I just spoke my mind. I told the truth.

I'm just kidding with you. You're so nervous.

I was afraid you would get me wrong.

We're sisters, I know your character well.

You aren't like Ma Yuen Chi. He's so tricky.

He thought he could use a fake magic stone to make His Majesty

change his mind about Lady Yin.

His plan didn't work out.

What you said carried much more weight. You've changed His Majesty's mind.

Lady Yin is spoiled, but her nature isn't bad.

This time she rescued the rabbits out of kindness.

That's why His Majesty has changed his view about her.

If you get along with Lady Yin

then His Majesty can focus on national affairs.

Fine, fine. I know what I should do. My name is Yiu Sam Fun, right?

I must make concession, make allowance, and make way, right?

Your ladyship told me to pick the flowers so early in the morning.

Do you want to use them to make aromatic powder?

I want to use them to make cakes. Different flowers have different meanings.

Lotus means being together. Pomegranate means a lot of blessings and sons.

I bet you want to be with His Majesty

and carry a lot of sons for him after eating the cakes.

I don't make the cakes for myself. I want to give them to sis.

They are for Lady Yin?

Master Bao said recently His Majesty stayed in her place very often.

Why do you still want to help her?

Sis gets His Majesty's favor. I should feel happy for her.

Such an untamed Lady Yin could become so kind and gentle.

I'm always so generous and friendly. How can I be defeated?

Sis is so happy with His Majesty.

Apart from giving her the cakes, I want to give her some flowers too.

You are so generous.

His Majesty must think that you are virtuous and that you have a large heart.

In comparison, you are better than Lady Yin.

Tonight, I'll send them over for you then.

The flowers and the cakes are the prelude.

I want to give her another surprise to show how sincere I am.

Good.

- Your Majesty, Lady Yin. - Your Majesty, Lady Yin.

Lady Lai told me to deliver the cakes to Lady Yin.

Lady Lai personally ordered the Food Department to make the cakes.

This is lotus cake. She wishes Your Majesty and Lady Yin happily together.

This is cinnamon cake with dates.

She wishes Your Majesty and your ladyship so sweet. This is chrysanthemum cake.

She wishes you two a nice couple.

Good. I like the magic.

Lady Lai also ordered me to deliver you the flowers... Where are they? Where?

Peach makes the dreams come true.

Camellia preserves the memory.

Last but not least... She wishes Your Majesty good luck.

Good. Very good.

Lady Lai wishes Your Majesty and Lady Yin a lot of blessings and everlasting love.

She wishes you two happy forever.

Lady Lai is really thoughtful.

I'm so happy tonight.

Lady Lai said if she can make

Your Majesty and Lady Yin drink happily that's her greatest wish.

Lady Lai is so considerate and thoughtful. You need to model on her.

Yes, Your Majesty.

I'll give Lady Lai two rolls of gold cloth and two pots of fine wine from Liangzhou.

Yes, Your Majesty.

I'll say thanks to Your Majesty on behalf of Lady Lai.

Siu Shun, your magic is really amazing.

In future, when I get the mood, I'll summon you to perform for me again.

Grateful for your grace, Your Majesty.

Isn't it amazing? I only had one silk handkerchief.

But there are so many on the floor.

Not really. You've become so thin within a short while.

That's even more amazing. I know how you did it.

You hid the handkerchiefs around your waist.

Your sleeve is so loose.

You can pull the handkerchiefs out from there.

Even Master Po couldn't tell how I did it. But I can't fool you.

You shouldn't be so aggressive.

I wouldn't notice it if you didn't put so many there.

Fine. After Master Po has returned, I'll perform for you again.

He's promised to buy me some silk handkerchiefs from Suzhou.

They are so small and thin.

I know what's on your mind.

Sam Ho has promised you to come. She will come for sure.

You don't need to keep checking the door.

She's seldom late.

You are leaving with General Man soon to help the drought victims.

Why wouldn't she grab the chance to see you? Be patient.

Actually you are so agile. You are gifted in learning magic.

I can't calm down. I need to take a walk outside.

See if I can come across her.

Oh, if Sam Ho comes here later, you ask her to wait for me.

He's so impatient. It seems that he isn't the material for learning magic.

Emperor Tai Chung's Stone of Monster Slayer has been fixed.

If you are still unhappy with it, I'll ask them to do it again.

Sam Ho?

Sam Ho, you look so pale. What happened?

Your Majesty, I'm bitten by a snake.

- Get the imperial doctor. - Yes, Your Majesty.

Don't move. The poison will move along your blood stream to your internal organs.

You'll be in danger then.

Sam Ho, I won't let anything bad happen to you.

No, Your Majesty. It's poisonous.

You're fine now.

I feel so cold. So cold.

Don't worry. I won't let anything bad happen to you.

What are you holding?

It's Officer Ko's jade pendant.

It's his family treasure. I've found it at last.

Sam Ho.

She's bitten by a poisonous snake. The imperial doctor is on the way.

Don't worry. She'll be fine.

Thank God the poison was removed in time.

Now you're fine.

His Majesty told you to rest for a few days in this chamber.

Let the poison be cleared first before you return to the Jewels Department.

I owe it to His Majesty for saving my life. He sucked the poison out for me.

He didn't care about his own safety to save you.

He's a kind emperor. He wouldn't watch me die like that.

Besides, he treats us as his good friends. I can never forget his grace.

Later when I get well, let's go together to see His Majesty.

I want to thank him for saving my life.

Alright. You get some rest.

Guard Ko.

Master Bao, is His Majesty in the imperial study?

I want to see him for something.

What a coincidence.

His Majesty also told me to inform you that he's holding a banquet

at Wild Chinese Viburnum Terrace in the imperial garden.

He wants you to go there to drink with him.

Your Majesty.

You've come?

I'm holding a banquet in the pavilion. Let's drink together tonight.

Much obliged, Your Majesty.

How's Sam Ho doing?

The imperial doctor has treated her. She's fine now.

She said when she's recovered

she would come with me to thank Your Majesty for saving her life.

It's good that she's fine now.

The wind in spring is ruthless. The flowers fall without making any sound.

I remember meeting Sam Ho for the first time

under this wild Chinese viburnum tree.

She was only six years old, and I was ten.

I met her much earlier than you did.

Your Majesty, I have a bold request. I hope you would grant me your permission.

Tell me what it is first. I'll consider it.

I've promised Sam Ho that when Your Majesty is in control of the administration again

I'll ask for your permission to allow her

to leave the palace and return to Yangzhou for good.

I even promised her to plant a lot of wild Chinese viburnum trees

outside our new home.

Sam Ho is such a nice girl. Every man in the world will fall for her.

To be honest, I wish Sam Ho could stay with me forever. I'm the emperor.

I own everything. I have the power to make a person stay for sure.

But to drive away a brother for the sake of a girl, I will never do that.

I'm stupid. I don't get it.

Today when Sam Ho was bitten by the poisonous snake

she's holding a jade pendant.

What are you holding?

It's Officer Ko's jade pendant. It's his family treasure.

If my conjecture is correct

you gave this jade pendant to Sam Ho as an engagement gift, right?

I've fallen in love with Sam Ho in breach of the rules.

I beg for your forgiveness, Your Majesty.

Of all the girls I've ever met, Sam Ho's character is the best.

To win her favor, every man including me will risk their lives for her.

Your Majesty.

It's fate that puts you and Sam Ho together.

I remember when I was running for my life

you and Sam Ho risked your lives to save me.

The three of us go a long way back.

Without the help of you two

I would have died long ago, not to mention becoming the emperor.

How will I forget the grace of you two?

We just did what a servant should do. Please don't mention it, Your Majesty.

No one can take your place in Sam Ho's heart.

No one can take your place in my heart either.

It's my blessing to get Your Majesty's trust.

I've promised you two that I'll be a righteous emperor.

If the emperor is virtuous, the people under his rule would be kind.

I always remind myself that the country and the people should always come first.

I want to rule the country with kindness and justice.

My happiness depends on the happiness of the people.

Therefore, it's my wish to see you and Sam Ho happy.

It's a blessing for the people to have such a kind emperor.

It's my blessing to have such a true friend.

As friends, we understand the mind of each other.

As brothers, we are ready to give our lives for each other. Trust me.

If you or Sam Ho is in trouble, I'll do my best to help you for sure.

I'll even give my life for you two.

Your Majesty is heroic. I do admire you.

I hope I can help Your Majesty eliminate evil and restore the administration.

I promise you when the administration is restored.

I'll allow Sam Ho to leave the palace.

I'll give you two the permission to return to your hometown and get married.

I won't break my promise.

I'm grateful for your grace.

Hey, as emperor and officer and as brothers and true friends

let's drink happily today until we are drunk.
