Welcome, on this lesson I'm gonna walk you through some virtual box helpful utilities.

On this lesson I'm gonna teach you some virtual box functionalities you might need along this course

First lets learn how to share a folder between your virtual and host machine.

right click on your virtual machine, configuration and share folders.

add a share folder

Choose a location in your host machine

I'll choose this folder audacity audios

and make sure to check auto mont and make it permanent,

accept this, and now we need to go to our windows virtual machine

here we are

lets open the file explorer, network and virtual box

and here we have the share folder audacity audios

I remind you that if you have your windows connected to Inetsim you are off line,

then an alternative is access internet in your host machine,

save your downloads in the share folder making them available in your virtual machine

another virtual box feature very useful is that allow us use the clipboard to make copy and paste between you host and virtual machines

this may not work for files but always works for strings.

so, right click on virtual machine, configuration, general, advanced

make sure that share clipboard is set in bidirectional, drag and drop not always work but worth the shot so bidirectional it is.

lets do the same for our windows virtual machine

Another very important feature of Virtual Box is that allow us to take snapshots.

Let say your are in your Windows virtual machine about to execute a dangerous malware,

in order to recover for possible malfunctioning you should first take a snapshot.

so select windows virtual machine and press button take snapshot

Lets write down some description, I say “before execute malware that could change regedit”.

and accept

ok then, when this is ready, you'll see next to this green arrow, puts Actual state modified

so now you can go back windows and execute the malware.

after the malware does a mess in your system, you can restore it to its original state

lets shut down windows virtual machine

and lets restore it from our backup

right click on snapshot one, restore

and it says you are about to restore snapshot one, we uncheck this because we don't want to save the actual state

click restore, and that would be all.
