[The King's Woman]

[Episode 39]

I did it for the future of Great Qin.

I'd even risk my life to kill her child!

Before Consort Li became pregnant she left the palace for days!

Your Grace knows it too!

She spent the night out in the wilderness with her senior.

Your Grace, how can you be sure that it was your child she was carrying?

What did you say, Madam Min?

Do you even know what you're talking about?

I was carrying His Grace's child.

How can you prove it?

Consort Li, do you dare to swear it?

Do you dare to swear that Tian Ming is His Grace's son?

You don't dare to, do you?

You don't even dare to swear it.

How am I to believe in you?

Shut up!

- Qing. - Present.

- Take Madam back to her quarters. - Yes!

Madam.

You know I can kill you at anytime.

But I think I should let you live.

I want you to personally witness

Qin's army charging into your Handan.

That will be the worst punishment for you.

Madam.

Madam!

Madam!

Madam...

Madam!

[Prince Jia's Manor, Handan of Zhao State]

Master Lu, I heard that Ying Zheng plans to appoint Wang Jian as commander

and Yang Duan He and Xin Shen as deputy commanders.

They will lead an army of 200,000 men to attack Zhao State again.

Master Lu, if we do nothing about it...

Great Zhao will be vanquished by Qin State

before I can even reclaim my throne.

As long as we have General Li Mu

how can Yang Duan He and Xin Sheng even tackle the army of Zhao State?

Guo Kai has been playing tricks lately.

He's very friendly with Dun Ruo.

He often badmouths others to his underlings.

Back then, General Li Mu objected to my father's decision

to anoint Zhao Qian as Crown Prince.

Queen Chang and Guo Kai still hold grudges against him.

Don't let those treacherous officials to manipulate the king

into wavering on General Li Mu's current post.

I suddenly recall...

Prince Jia, has Madam Min written you any letters lately?

She seems to be in some sort of predicament in Qin Palace.

I sent my men to get some information.

But Ying Zheng has her under house arrest.

I'm afraid...

She's been found out.

Madam, don't be upset anymore.

Everything will get better with time.

This is all my fault.

Miscarriage is no trivial matter.

If I had been more cautious, this wouldn't have happened. I--

Qing...

Have I done something wrong?

Madam, you've done nothing wrong.

Madam, you're the kindest, cleverest, and most beautiful person I've ever met.

Madam, you can't be in the wrong.

I fell in love with His Grace.

Am I wrong to have fallen for him?

Madam, you mustn't think so.

His Grace was just too angry.

He was also confused by Madam Min's vicious words.

His Grace loves you too much, so he misunderstood you in his panic.

It's Madam Min's fault.

How are you at fault?

Ying Zheng and I...

Our relationship can easily be damaged by a few accusations.

Isn't that too pathetic?

Madam, you shouldn't brood over it.

Here, have a bit more medicine.

Qing.

You're dismissed now.

I'd like to get some rest alone.

Madam, get some rest.

I'll be standing by right outside.

Li, tell me.

Do you think we'll have a son or a daughter?

If you give birth to a prince, we'll name him Yang.

If it's a princess, we'll name her Yue (moon).

Don't you like looking at the moon?

How's that? Yang and Yue.

Doesn't that sound lovely?

I'm jealous of Han Shen.

I'm jealous of every man around you.

I swear to you that I'll never treat you so badly again.

Thank you for coming back to me.

Li Zhong.

Your Grace.

Tell me.

Do you think what Madam Min said is true?

I'm in no place to comment on Your Grace's and Madam's relationship.

It's all right.

I'd just like to know... if you weren't my subject

but just Madam Li's friend, or an onlooker...

In your opinion, would Madam Li betray me?

Your Grace, forgive me for being blunt.

Madam Li is honorable and compassionate.

She's also very righteous.

I think that someone like her, who is bound by her principles

will stay faithful to the person that she has chosen.

Actually...

I do know that...

Madam Li is by no means a frivolous woman.

If she had rekindled her affection for her senior...

How could she share the news of her pregnancy with me so happily?

It's just that whenever I think about the night she spent with that man...

And what they shared in the past...

As a man...

As a common person...

It really bothers me.

Your Grace, as an outsider, I really cannot say more.

Your Grace is wise.

I believe that in time, you will make the right decision.

Slowly.

Report!

Madam Li, Lady Chu is here.

What's she doing here at this time?

Madam, don't let her in.

I'll go and drive her away.

Invite her in.

Yes!

Greetings, Lady Chu.

- You're dismissed. - Yes.

I heard that you were feeling unwell.

I came especially to visit you.

These are Chu State's renowned Yunmeng oranges.

Since coming to Qin State, I've rarely had the chance to eat some.

Whenever it's in season

my parents have them delivered to Qin State.

I've brought some especially for you today.

Try some.

They were just sent from Chu State.

They're so fresh and juicy.

Quick, try some.

This orange is so sweet.

If you like them, I'll bring some to you more often.

I'm actually quite envious of you.

You're always dressed in pretty clothes.

You just live your life, so naively and simply.

It must be quite nice.

I admit that when I was back home I was the apple of my parents' eyes.

When I married into Qin State, Grand Empress Dowager doted on me.

I even did some terrible things to you.

I hope that you can forgive me.

Not to mention, I owe it to you that I was proven innocent

in the case of Mister Han Fei's death.

I don't actually know why you've come to see me today.

You must be here to ask me for a favor.

Now that Madam Min is no longer in power

You can be proven innocent for all that she framed you for.

Lady Chu, you must be here to ask me to put in a good word to His Grace

so that you can be promoted from Virtuous Lady

and return to Zhaode Palace?

You want to become Madam Chu again?

Seriously...

You can read my mind.

Of course, if you could put in a good word for me with His Grace

I'd be very grateful.

I'll thank you in advance.

Report!

Your Ladyship, bad news!

Grand Empress Dowager has passed away!

What?

Grand Empress Dowager has passed away!

- Your Ladyship! - Lady Chu!

Grand Empress Dowager...

I've been unfilial.

I haven't even served you well...

But you're already gone.

I haven't even made you proud!

I'll be all alone in the palace now.

What should I do?

You've left me all alone in the palace! What should I do?

No... I have to go and see Grand Empress Dowager.

Your Ladyship!

Your Ladyship!

Lady Chu!

[South Palace]

Empress Dowager... I'm sorry.

I wasn't well for a while, so I couldn't visit you.

Please forgive me.

It's so cold in here...

I'm so lonely in here...

I'm all alone...

Empress Dowager, you're frail.

It's also quiet and cold in South Palace.

It's really not the best place for you to recuperate.

When I head back, I'll speak to His Grace.

I'll get him to relocate you to a warmer and more comfortable palace.

No.

I don't want to go anywhere.

I don't want to die in Xianyang.

Empress Dowager...

I can empathize with how much you have missed home.

It's a long journey from Xianyang to Handan.

It will take months of traveling.

You're too frail right now.

It really isn't ideal to travel so far.

I don't care...

- Empress Dowager! - I don't care...

I want to return to Handan.

That is my home.

If I am to die, I want to die in Zhao State.

Go and tell Zheng.

Tell him to let me return to Handan?

If he won't allow it...

I'll risk my life... to crawl...

I'll crawl my way back home.

Li...

Help me.

Please?

Empress Dowager, lie back down first.

Here.

Greetings, Your Grace.

Madam, what is it?

I'd like Your Grace to grant a request.

It's rare that you'd ask for my consent.

From what I know of you, you wouldn't ask a favor for yourself.

It's always for someone else.

Am I right?

Your Grace guessed correctly.

I'd like to ask Your Grace to allow Empress Dowager to return to Zhao State.

Empress Dowager?

Did Empress Dowager tell you that she wants to return to Zhao State?

Your Grace...

Empress Dowager is very ill.

She hasn't been able to stay conscious for too long these days.

She's always so frail.

She keeps developing minor and major illnesses here and there.

I'm worried that Empress Dowager might not have much time left.

She also mentioned to me once

that when she dies, she wants to die in Handan.

So I'd like to ask Your Grace for this favor.

I hope that you can fulfill Empress Dowager's last wish.

I see.

I've neglected Empress Dowager.

It's kind of you to be so filial to her.

It's just that...

Under the circumstances

I can't let you travel to Zhao State with Empress Dowager.

Is Great Qin going to attack Zhao State?

Exactly.

Since Great Qin has already taken Han State

our strategy to take Wei works well now.

Among the three states of the original Jin Kingdom

only Zhao State remains.

But Zhao State is strong and powerful.

I'm afraid it will be a tough battle.

I'm worried that if you two travel to Zhao State now...

I don't want you to take such a risk amidst the chaos of war.

So there's going to be another war.

It can't be avoided if we are to unify the states as one empire.

If I let you and Empress Dowager travel to Zhao State now...

Once your identities are exposed...

If the soldiers of Zhao find out that

you two are Empress Dowager and concubine of Great Qin

not only the soldiers, but also the people of Zhao will go against you.

Madam...

Although you're trained in martial arts

I'm worried that if you act out of a moment's compassion

you might end up getting hurt.

It seems that nothing I say can stop Your Grace from attacking Zhao State.

Your Grace...

I can understand why you're unforgiving towards Empress Dowager.

It's just that...

You've kept her grounded in her palace all these years.

At times, you don't even visit her once a year.

She's endured the passing of her loved ones.

This is enough to revenge and torture the Empress Dowager.

If Your Grace would allow me to take Empress Dowager out of the palace

I'll be sure to keep our identities concealed.

Your Grace, I beg you to agree to it.

Allow me to take Empress Dowager back to Handan?

All right.

When you're so persistent

wouldn't I be too cruel to Empress Dowager if I didn't agree?

I'll send troops from Tiger Valor Army to protect you along the way.

The Black Army led by Meng Wu and me will follow suit.

Should anything happen, send me a message immediately.

Thank you, Your Grace.

I'll take my leave now.

Sure.

Zhao Gao.

Present.

Assign Madam Li's security to Li Zhong.

Yes, I understand.

[Beyond Qin State's border]

Empress Dowager, are you cold?

I'm not.

Li, you must not know that I used to dance every day

be it winter or summer, dressed in the lightest clothes.

I never feel cold.

This is nothing.

Empress Dowager, my fox fur cape is very warm.

Why don't you wear it?

No, I already told you I'm not cold.

I know that you aren't.

It's just that Qing dressed me too warm this morning.

I'm now feeling too warm and the fox fur cape keeps the heat in.

Empress Dowager, put this on for my sake.

Please forgive me for being so willful.

I'll just have to wear this fox fur cape for you then.

Otherwise, you'll be too warm.

Thank you, Empress Dowager.

Li...

Are we really going to Handan now?

Of course.

This is wonderful.

I've really missed Zhao State.

I've always wanted to go back and see it.

Who knew that Zheng would actually let me go home?

Empress Dowager, the journey to Handan is so long.

You should get some rest.

When we get to Handan, we'll have a good look around.

You have to stay true to your word.

Of course.

I'll get some rest then.

The king has arrived!

Greetings, Your Grace.

Get up.

Madam, why do you look so pale?

Could it be that since you've taken quite a few lives in the palace

you were haunted by those innocent souls and unable to sleep?

A woman dresses prettily for the one she loves.

Since Your Grace no longer wishes to look at me

why would I bother to doll myself up?

Fine.

Then I'll take you somewhere.

A place where you can see your beloved.

I'll be attacking Zhao State in a few days.

Min Dai... Why don't you come along?

Your Grace is attacking Zhao State...

And you want to take me, knowing I'm from Zhao State?

Is Your Grace testing my loyalty?

Or would Your Grace like to know

if I'll be in deep sorrow and anger... when the army of Qin tramples my people?

Would I cry out in agony?

Or when you set the lands of Zhao State on fire...

Would I be in tears?

Could I bear to watch?

Anyway, you have to come with me.

This is a command.

You're not to defy it.

Dress up nicely.

I believe King Qian of Zhao is looking forward to seeing you.

I...

Yes, Your Grace.

Madam!

Madam!

Madam...

Madam...

[Prince Jia's Manor, Handan, Zhao State]

You mean that Zheng will arrive in Handan soon?

Yes.

Three days after Empress Dowager Zhao set out

the Qin Army also started from Xianyang.

Now, they are almost at Chunliu.

Since Zheng is going to be here

the moment I've waited for is here.

Master Lu, you intend to let His Grace know that you're alive?

I've waited all these years.

Isn't this the moment I've been waiting for?

Master Lu, you mustn't do it.

If your identity is exposed, wouldn't His Grace--

How can a dead person die again?

But your ambition is yet to be fulfilled!

Don't you wish to pacify the world and support the one supreme leader

the one and only emperor?

Indeed... After all these years, have you not noticed?

No other king but Zheng can do it.

I was wrong, and now I'm old.

Zhao State is like a lamb awaiting slaughter.

Be it Zhao Qian or Zhao Jia, they will both go up in smoke one day.

Only Ying Zheng can dominate the world.

We're still residing in the prince's manor.

Master Lu, what are you plans?

I'm going to meet up with Consort Zhao.

Minister Ma, the meeting is crucial.

I have to make Consort Zhao change her mind.

If His Grace brings her to Handan with him

it will be my only chance.

You're a new maid?

Lift up your head.

You're a man?

Why have you come to Empress Dowager's tent dressed as a woman?

Why have you sneaked into Empress Dowager's tent?

Guards!

Madam!

Madam! Please spare me!

Speak. What are you doing in Empress Dowager's tent?

I... I sneaked in to... deliver a letter to Empress Dowager.

Deliver a letter to Empress Dowager?

Where is the letter?

It's... It's tucked in my bosom.

[Empress Dowager, I'd like to invite you to the place we first met in Handan.]

[Lu Bu Wei]

Empress Dowager, is this Lu Bu Wei's handwriting?

Is he still alive?

Yes... It's him.

This is his handwriting.

The place we met is only known to the both of us.

Empress Dowager, I find this matter quite suspicious.

We'll decide on it after discussing this with His Grace.

No...

Report back to Master Lu.

Tell him that I'll definitely be there!

Empress Dowager.

Li, let him head back now!

Lu Bu Wei is waiting for me!

Your Highness, Qin State and Zhao State are currently at war.

I find it very inappropriate for you to meet up with him.

I don't care who is at war.

I'm going to see him.

If you won't let me see him, I'll just kill myself!

Empress Dowager!

We'll decide after discussing it with His Grace first.

No! I have to see him!

- Empress Dowager, calm down-- - I have to see Lu Bu Wei!

- Empress Dowager! - I have to see Lu--

Empress Dowager, lie down first.

Madam Li.

Greetings, Madam Li.

I didn't know you were here and failed to welcome you.

Please forgive me, Madam.

Do rise, Master Li.

Where is His Grace?

His Grace has left the camp with General Wang Jian.

They are inspecting the paths to draw up new routes.

When will His Grace return?

A round trip should take four to five days.

What is it? Does Madam need to see His Grace about some matter?

Empress Dowager has been throwing quite a fit these days.

She keeps asking when we will arrive in Handan.

I think that I'll take Empress Dowager for a walk with a few attendants.

Lately, she hasn't been feeling too well either.

I'm worried that we might slow down the army.

Why don't I take her to Handan first and wait there?

We could meet up later.

Handan is the capital of Zhao State. It's a crucial military basecamp.

I'm worried that if Madam's and Empress Dowager's identities are exposed

you will be in danger.

We certainly won't let anyone know that we're from Qin State.

Besides, Empress Dowager is originally from Handan

so she speaks with a local accent.

I'll be serving by her side as her daughter-in-law.

No one will doubt us.

Moreover, with my martial arts skills, and all that I've been through

can't you trust me on this, Master Li?

I wouldn't dare.

It seems that Madam has already considered all the factors.

I shouldn't hold you back.

Why don't I pick out some personal guards to accompany Madam and Empress Dowager?

Madam, please do be cautious.

Thank you, Master Li.

I'll take my leave then.

Sister Li, you're dressed in armor.

Are you going to trample Zhao State along with His Grace?

Madam Min, did you come here with His Grace?

His Grace knew very well that the best way to get back at me

is to destroy Zhao State.

He's attacking Zhao State right before my eyes.

Don't you feel elated?

I have nothing against Zhao State.

I never thought of destroying anything in Zhao State.

I'm only accompanying Empress Dowager.

Stop pretending!

Consort Li, I killed your child.

Don't you hate me?

Of course I do.

How I wish I could kill you in the middle of the night

to pay for my child's death.

Apart from the child I lost, I still have Tian Ming.

As for you...

You will have your child.

I just worry that your hatred will be passed on.

Then another person as pitiful and pathetic as His Grace will be born.

Pitiful?

You say that His Grace is pitiful?

Yes.

His Grace is pitiful.

That's why he seeks revenge from this world.

Stop pretending to be better than others!

So virtuous and haughty!

It's absolutely disgusting.

Madam Min.

We were once the closest of sisters.

But your foolishness has gotten you nowhere.

You're on your own.

[Guo Kai's Manor, Handan, Zhao State] Your Grace, you're finally here.

I failed to welcome you in.

Please forgive me.

Don't be so polite.

Who doesn't know that Master Guo hosts the best banquets in Handan?

How could I not come and take a look?

Please have a seat, Your Highness.

Here, here.

- Drink. - Drink.

There's actually a guest here that I don't recognize?

Fill up the cup, here.

- Yes. - Please.

Shouldn't you introduce me to him?

Prince Jia, he's a merchant who

does business along the border of Zhao and Wei.

He's called Dun Ruo.

But he has quite a strange personality.

He doesn't interact much with people he just met.

Your Highness, I hope you won't mind.

I heard that Master Guo has been interacting frequently with Dun Ruo.

You've profited quite a lot from it.

No...

I've actually befriended him for another purpose.

What do you mean by that?

To be honest, I actually suspect

that Dun Ruo could be a spy sent from Qin State.

Good.

A spy?

Master Guo, you have long known that Dun Ruo is working for Qin State

yet you still interact with him so frequently?

Why is that so?

It's precisely because I know he's a spy from Qin State

that I must keep him close to monitor his actions.

As for today's banquet, it's my way of drawing him in

to find information on Qin State.

How do you plan to do so?

Your Highness, don't worry.

I've made all the arrangements.

You can just drink and eat tonight.

Look.

I think this is no trifling matter.

We must act quickly.

We have to give this letter to Master.

Let's go.

Empress Dowager.

Here, be careful.

Empress Dowager!

Master Lu?

[Preview] Let go of me!

- Empress Dowager! - Let go of me!

What are you doing?

Lu Bu Wei, what are you doing? Let go of her!

Tell Zheng that I want to see him!

If he refuses, I'll kill his mother!

You've deceived me all these years!

Do you want my throne so much?

Zheng...

You must believe in me.

Today...

All of those who once offended me...

Be it my biological father...

Or my mother...

And even the Heavens!

I, Ying Zheng...

Today...

I will kill you all!
