[The King's Woman]

[Episode 28]

Mister Tian Guang.

- What happened? - Have a seat.

Since Young Warrior Han came to visit

I'm sure you've realized that I'm Crown Prince of Yan's strategist.

Therefore...

If you need my assistance for anything, please feel free to let me know.

Otherwise, I'd think that I've failed to be the man I ought to become

if Mister Tian Guang can't even trust me.

I do have a favor to ask of you.

Mister Tian Guang, do tell.

Since you have already mastered the renowned Swan Swordsmanship

I'd like to have you rescue someone for me.

I'm deeply indebted to Mister Tian Guang.

It's my duty to help you.

But it won't at all be easy.

It isn't that I doubt your skills in Swan Swordsmanship.

What I mean is that it isn't about the level of skill in martial arts.

Then...

I'd like to ask Young Warrior Jing to go to Xianyang City of Qin

to rescue Crown Prince Dan of Yan, who is held hostage there.

You mean to get past Tiger Valor Army's thousands of soldiers in Xianyang

right under that tyrant, King of Qin's nose

and to rescue Crown Prince Dan without anyone noticing?

Exactly.

But if this is an inconvenience to you

I won't force you to do it.

I'll get to it right now!

I'll come along!

So you'll have someone to look out for you.

Don't, Lan.

You just recovered from a grave injury, if anything goes wrong...

But I...

Miss Lan, you need not worry.

I asked Young Warrior Jing for help.

I wouldn't do so without preparing anything.

There will also be several suicide warriors from Yan State.

I hereby thank Young Warrior Jing on behalf of Crown Prince Dan.

Mister Tian!

I received this letter some time ago.

Mister Tian Guang passed this on to me.

It's said in the letter that Junior Jing is coming to Xianyang.

Has Senior Jing really decided to rescue Crown Prince Dan?

Junior Li, why aren't you surprised to learn of this?

It's because I was the one who informed Mister Tian Guang

of Crown Prince Dan's house arrest.

As I expected, Mister Tian Guang didn't relate this matter to you.

Do you know how dangerous it is for you to do this?

Crown Prince Dan of Yan is my friend.

How can I not help him when he reached out to me?

We both understand that he must return to Yan State.

If Grandfather knew of this, he'd have wanted us to do this.

Why do you have to get yourself into this situation?

If Ying Zheng finds out about this, your life will be at stake.

It's because I know His Grace never meant to keep

Crown Prince Dan under house arrest.

He only resorted to it because he couldn't take a step backward.

Senior Han, give it some thought.

His Grace is the almighty king of Qin State.

Now that Qin State dominates all the seven Warring States

what would everyone think if he let a hostage prince return to his home?

Even so, why would you meddle in such a troublesome matter?

How does Yan State concern you?

It's because I could tell that

His Grace actually regards Crown Prince Dan of Yan as his close friend.

It doesn't actually mean much for His Grace to keep Crown Prince Dan

under house arrest in Qin State.

If I can help Crown Prince Dan of Yan leave Qin State

I'd also be doing His Grace a favor.

I just don't understand if you're doing this for Ying Zheng

or Crown Prince Dan?

Senior Han...

My grandfather often said

that as warriors, we must have our principles.

If we care only for our own safety and refuse to do what we should do

it would be unlike me.

Even if you don't consider your safety, you should consider Tian Ming.

I believe that even if this plan goes wrong

His Grace wouldn't take his frustration out on Tian Ming.

Isn't that just wishful thinking?

In life...

What don't we do just because it's wishful thinking?

All right then.

Stay out of this matter.

- Leave it to me. - That won't do.

Crown Prince Dan asked me for help.

How can I just leave it to you and stay out of it?

We have different statuses.

If anything goes wrong, I can just leave.

But what about you?

You're in the palace, serving by the king's side.

If anything goes wrong, you'd be convicted of treason!

But if I don't see to this matter personally

I'm afraid it will only be more dangerous.

Besides, no matter what happens

at least His Grace wouldn't kill me.

Since you've made up your mind, there's no turning back now.

It's just that I'd be implicating you.

I feel bad about that.

What are you saying?

Who is it?

Qing?

Qing!

Qing--

Madam.

Qing, where have you been?

I wanted to use the bathroom so I just left for a bit.

Madam, please forgive me!

I won't dare do it again.

I was wrong to do so.

All right.

Be sure to keep watch out here.

What happened?

It's all right.

I just think it's best we stay alert.

Mister Tian.

Young Warrior Jing.

You're not even taking your long sword with you?

Mister Tian, there's no need to worry.

I'm confident that I can accomplish the task you've entrusted to me.

Since Young Warrior Jing says so, I certainly feel at ease.

Let's get going.

Brother Jing!

Lan?

Why did you come out here?

It's cold and windy out here.

It's bad for your health.

Head in quickly.

Brother Jing, I...

You...

You must be careful.

If anything happens to you, I would--

Don't worry.

With my skills, I could even make it out of hell completely unscathed

let alone Xianyang.

I know you're extremely skilled in martial arts now.

But accidents happen.

If you overlook anything--

Oversight and accident are both stances in Swan Swordsmanship.

I can take out enemies with oversight and accidents

so I won't be hurt by them.

Don't think too much about it.

I'll definitely come back to you safely.

It's getting late.

We should get going.

Head in and get some rest.

Lan, don't worry.

Be careful!

Senior, I believe you can do it.

Tomorrow is the day.

If I can't return to Yan State successfully

I'll have to die in Qin State.

Your Grace, have some water first.

Li Zhong and Han Shen seek an audience!

- Greetings, Your Grace! - Greetings, Your Grace.

Do rise.

What brings you here?

Your Grace, Ruan Qing of Tiger Valor Army reported back

that Crown Prince Dan has been ill and bedridden since winter.

The live-in physician can't figure out the cause.

He's been in bed for days.

Yan Dan is ill?

Yes, I've come to report it to Your Grace

to see if we should send the imperial physician over.

Li Zhong, have Ruan Qing keep a closer eye on the manor.

Nothing must go wrong at such a time.

Yes, Your Grace!

Your Grace, would you like me to visit Crown Prince on your behalf?

Everyone now knows that

Your Grace refused to send Crown Prince Dan back to Yan State.

Crown Prince is now ill.

Should Your Grace act indifferently

others will surely criticize you for being cold and heartless.

If I were to visit him on your behalf

it would comply with etiquette without being overly polite.

Sure.

- Han Shen. - Present.

Bring a guard prefect to escort Madam Li there.

Yes, Your Grace.

Thank you, Your Grace.

[Crown Prince of Yan's Manor]

Without the king's decree

no one is allowed into Crown Prince Dan's room.

Greetings, Madam Li.

Madam Li is here to visit His Highness on behalf of His Grace.

This is His Grace's decree.

[Occupied with state affairs, I, the royal one, have sent]

[Madam Li to visit Crown Prince Dan in my stead. Ying Zheng.]

Madam Li, please enter.

Crown Prince, Madam Li would like to see you.

Come in.

Crown Prince.

I heard that you've been unwell so I came especially to visit you.

It's just a slight cold.

And I feel drained of energy.

Madam, thank you for visiting.

I feel sorry to have troubled you.

His Grace is busy with state affairs.

He's concerned about your health.

His Grace especially instructed me to visit Your Highness in his stead.

You need not feel bad.

If so, Yan Dan would like to thank Madam Li in advance.

I've actually brought an effective prescription from the imperial physician.

Madam, you're too kind.

May I ask what kind of medicine it is?

Crown Prince, you must miss home dearly when you're ill.

I'd like to sing Your Highness a folk song from Yan State

so as to relieve your homesickness.

If your spirits are lifted, you'll surely get better soon.

Thank you, Madam.

The war drums boom thunder.

Weapons in hand, battle-ready.

Warriors digging foxholes and building walls.

I alone was ordered to join the south-bound march.

General Sun Zi Zhong, conqueror of Chen and Song, led us.

But when the war was over, I was not allowed to return.

Left behind in anger, left behind in pain.

I am a refugee in the south.

And I have lost my horse.

Where can I be found, abandoned deep in the woods?

- Who is it? - We're the forest outlaws.

We heard of the treasures in Crown Prince's manor

and decided to have a look!

How dare you!

This place is reigned by Great Qin!

You must be sick of living!

Attack!

- Guard Huang, quick, take a look! - Yes!

Your Highness, your men should be here by now.

To be honest, I wasn't sure that Madam would assist me.

It's not as though I can't relate to Crown Prince's homesickness

and the constant worries about your motherland.

I can never properly repay your kindness in this lifetime, Madam Li.

Please accept my bow!

Your Highness, please do rise.

Junior Li, time is ticking.

We have to speed up.

Your Highness, pack quickly.

Madam, some bandits have barged into the manor.

Crown Prince, it's chaotic out there.

Please stay here while I go take a look.

Who is it? How dare you trespass into Crown Prince Dan's manor?

Protect Crown Prince!

- Attack! - Yes!

Attack!

Madam, perhaps it's best not to go.

Should anything happen to you, how am I to answer to His Grace?

I'm quite skilled, so you don't have to worry about me.

Besides, even if there are intruders

the troops of Tiger Valor Army should be able fend them off.

Come with me to take a look.

Guard Han will stay in the room to protect Crown Prince Dan.

Madam Li!

Please be very careful.

Madam!

Senior Jing, take me hostage to distract them!

Quickly!

Stop!

Go! Retreat!

- Go after them! - Yes!

Hold on!

I'll go after them. You should guard the manor.

- Inform Commander Li! - Yes!

Your Grace, I was just informed that

a gang of bandits came to rob Crown Prince's manor.

Crown Prince is fine and resting in his room.

However...

Madam Li was held hostage and taken away by the bandits.

What did you say?

How did this happen?

Guard Han has already gone after them.

The bandits may have come for treasure.

But they might have just taken Madam Li hostage

in the spur of the moment, to get away.

Xianyang City has always been known for its low crime rate.

Crown Prince Manor is also guarded by Tiger Valor Army.

Who would dare behave so atrociously on Great Qin's territory?

- Is my Tiger Valor Army so useless? - Please calm down, Your Highness.

The bandits seem to be highly skilled in martial arts.

I wasn't present, so I'll have to investigate further.

- Li Zhong! - Present.

Get my horse ready.

I'm going to rescue Madam Li myself!

Yes!

What were you doing in the Crown Prince's manor?

This entire plan...

Were you behind it all?

That's right. I didn't wish to distract you.

Fortunately, Mister Tian Guang didn't tell you the truth.

Swan Swordsmanship...

You seem to have improved greatly.

If Grandfather could see what you've become now

he'd be so proud.

Junior Li... Are you keeping other matters from me too?

Young Warrior Jing!

Mister Tian Guang.

Young Warrior Jing.

Crown Prince.

Madam Li.

Crown Prince, this is my other senior, Young Warrior Jing Ke.

We owe it all to him.

Young Warrior Jing and I aren't even acquainted.

Yet you risked your life to help me.

I'd like to express my gratitude to Young Warrior Jing.

Crown Prince, you're too kind.

If it weren't for Mister Tian Guang, I'd have died in the desert of Qin.

Since it was Mister Guang who asked for my assistance

I was duty-bound to do so.

I am so honored and fortunate to have your assistance.

If it weren't for Madam Li's assistance and strategy

I'm afraid that I would've had to waste my life away in Qin State.

Madam acted as our hostage today.

I'm worried that should this matter be exposed

you might be implicated.

Crown Prince, you need not worry.

Guard Han will surely come for me.

He is our eldest senior.

He would never betray us.

You can head back to Yan State with your mind at ease.

Junior Li.

Young Warrior Han.

Thank you for what you did today.

Thank you, Young Warrior Han!

Crown Prince, you need not be so polite.

I had Ruan Qing report back to the palace.

Tiger Valor Army will surely come in pursuit very soon.

You must leave this place quickly.

We mustn't linger.

Hangu Pass is only some ten miles away.

That's the last pass guarded by the army of Qin.

Hangu Pass is always heavily guarded, especially the exit of the pass.

Crown Prince, we should get going.

Madam Li, or perhaps you'd rather that I address you as Miss Gongsun?

I can never repay your kindness.

If we meet in the next life I hope I can repay your kindness then.

Come, please get up quickly.

Your Highness, it's a long journey back to Yan State.

May Your Highness stay safe and take care.

Senior Jin, Mister Tian Guang, take care of yourselves.

Miss Gongsun, Young Warrior Han, I bid you both farewell.

Crown Prince, after you.

Now that Lan is looking after Senior Jing

I have nothing to worry about.

Commander Li, I've failed to carry out my duty.

Why couldn't Great Qin's Tiger Valor Army even defeat a gang of bandits?

Sir, the bandits were extremely skilled in martial arts.

Even I wasn't a match for them.

I don't think that they're just common bandits.

However skilled they may be, how could they be defeat you?

Every single one of you were picked out of the very best in the army.

Not to mention you can each fend off ten men at a time

they shouldn't be able to defeat you in military tactics!

It's my incompetence in leading our men.

It has cost us such great casualties.

- Please punish me, sir! - Forget it!

Since our comrades are all wounded, we'll discuss this later.

- His Grace will be the judge of it. - Yes!

I acknowledge my mistake!

This is strange.

Judging from the wounds

it was inflicted by a highly skilled warrior.

How could bandits be so skilled?

Where is Crown Prince Dan?

He's still resting in his room.

Stop!

Your Grace.

Are you all right?

I'm fine.

Where are the bandits?

Your Grace, by the time I went after them

the bandits had left Madam behind and fled.

Madam said she wasn't harmed, so I brought her back first

to set Your Grace's mind at ease.

They already left?

Could it be...

That this is a ploy?

Han Shen! Take Madam back to the palace first.

- Tiger Valor Army, obey my command! - Present!

Head to the Crown Prince's manor at once!

Crown Prince, Commander Li would like to see you.

I still feel unwell.

Commander Li, please head back.

Crown Prince, I'm here on His Grace's orders

to visit Your Highness.

I wonder if Your Highness was shocked by the sudden home invasion.

I might be ill but fortunately

His Grace's Tiger Valor Army is extremely valiant.

I wasn't at all harmed, thanks to His Grace.

Ruan Qing.

Exactly what illness did His Highness contract?

Why does his voice sound different?

I heard that he caught a cold.

I've often heard His Highness coughing the past few days.

I suppose he might have coughed his voice hoarse.

Your Highness.

His Grace ordered me to visit Your Highness.

I have to see you.

If not, I would be defying the decree. I apologize!

I wonder if Your Highness could draw the curtains?

I'm too sick and haggard to see anyone.

I'm only worried about Your Highness.

I'd like to check your condition.

I'm perfectly fine.

The imperial physician said that I will recover in a few days.

The king has arrived!

Your Grace, I was just about to--

Who are you?

How dare you pose as Crown Prince Dan of Yan?

Your Grace is indeed very sharp.

A suicide warrior fights till death.

- Please punish me. - Shut up!

Where is Crown Prince Dan of Yan?

You better come clean.

Then I'll keep your corpse intact.

Death it is then.

When it's for the sake of Great Yan why would I care if my corpse is intact?

Guards!

Arrest him!

Throw him into the dungeon!

Slice off a chunk of flesh today, and rip a nail out tomorrow.

Torture him for 1,000 days.

Let's see if he talks then.

- Get it done. - Yes.

I never planned on making it out of here alive.

I won't say...

a single word.

You--

Well done, Crown Prince Dan of Yan...

You put on such a good show.

You made a fool of me!

- Li Zhong! - Present!

Send out Tiger Valor Army and our elite soldiers.

Even if they have to turn over every inch of dirt, they must find him!

Yes, Your Grace!

Ruan Qing!

Crown Prince Dan of Yan.

He deceived the king, betrayed Qin, and escaped.

Now, three troops from Tiger Valor Army are already searching outside the city.

But in case the soldiers don't recognize Crown Prince Dan

palace guards will first go in pursuit up to Hangu Pass.

Hangu Pass is the first pass out of Qin State.

Whoever wishes to go east must go through the pass.

If Crown Prince of Yan is returning to Yan State, he must go through it.

Commander Li, those bandits already escaped hours ago.

I'm afraid it'll be hard to catch up with them.

Guard Han, you need not worry.

His Grace already thought of that.

This is the king's Cast Iron Tally!

With this tally, our cavalry can take the official route.

The official route leads straight to Hangu Pass!

They can't travel as quickly as we can.

We have plenty of time to get there before they do!

- His Grace is wise! - His Grace is wise!

Set out!

[Hangu Pass]

Halt!

Who are you?

Do you have an official permit to leave the pass at midnight?

Sir, I'm leading a funeral procession.

I was entrusted with the task to bring several deceased indigenous

tribesmen of Baiyue Tribe back home to be buried.

I don't care if you're leading a funeral procession or seeking a reward

no one may pass without an official permit!

Sir, tribesmen of Baiyue Tribe have a traditional custom.

Within a month of death

a man's coffin must be returned to his hometown.

This is called bone-relocating burial.

If we don't follow the customs

we'll be reincarnated as pigs or dogs in the next life.

As we're pressed for time, we didn't apply for a permit.

Please make an exception for us.

Save the trouble.

It's the middle of the night.

It's just a few coffins. Let them through.

Let them through!

Lift up!

Halt!

You are all to remove your headscarves!

Whoever disobeys, dies!

This... This is...

I have the king's Cast Iron Tally!

I'm here to investigate Crown Prince Dan's home invasion!

Han Shen.

Inspect these people's faces carefully.

Determine if they are the bandits you saw today.

Well?

They aren't the ones who broke into Crown Prince Dan's manor.

Guards!

Open up the coffins!

I will inspect them personally!

Sir, these are all remains of the deceased.

You mustn't damage their remains.

If you do, it'd be too disrespectful!

Old gentleman, it's not your place to talk.

[Preview]

When did you get here?

Why didn't I notice?

I walked right in.

You were too caught up in whatever you were thinking about.

You didn't notice me.

I have a gift for you.

What is it?

The gift I have for you is completely one-of-a-kind.

The spy I planted in the Imperial Medical Bureau reported back today

that a concubine picked up a miscarriage prevention decoction.

She's been pregnant for months.

A concubine is pregnant? Who is it?

It's Palace Woman Han.

I heard you rarely leave your room so that you can nurse your health.

So I came especially to visit you today.

These supplements help replenish energy and blood.

It's particularly effective in preventing miscarriage.

Madam, I wouldn't dare ask for more.

All I hope is that Madam can plead to His Grace on my behalf

to allow me to give birth to this child.

You must help me!

You mustn't get too agitated.

Your Ladyship is now carrying the king's child...

Why weren't there any symptoms?

Judging from your appearance...

I can't seem to tell that you're pregnant.

Now that Master Zhao brings it up...

Your Ladyship...

Your Ladyship, take care.

I will report this to His Grace.
