[The King's Woman]

[Episode 10]

It's late, Your Ladyship should get some sleep.

I take my leave.

You are--

Witch!

How dare you snatch up my man?

- I'll strangle you to death! - Who are you?

- Who are you? - It's you!

- Let go of me! - It's you!

- Let go of me... - He doesn't want me...

I am going to kill you!

What are you doing?

Who is she?

Why haven't you visited me?

You don't want me anymore now that you have someone new?

Heartless brute!

You can't do this to me!

- Zhao Gao! - Present.

Take Empress Dowager back to South Palace!

She is not to leave the palace without my permission!

- Empress Dowager? - Yes!

So she's Ying Zheng's mother?

- I'm not leaving! I won't! - Don't do this, Empress Dowager.

I can't go back in there!

I want to return to Handan!

I want to return to Handan!

I won't leave!

I want to return to Handan!

I won't leave!

You must have had a fright.

Just now... That was your mother?

What's the matter with her?

Who was she scolding?

You're willing to talk to me...

Just to ask me that?

Yes.

If not, I don't wish to hear your voice at all.

I don't even wish to see your face.

But I can only lie on this bed.

And you're the king of this palace.

What can I do?

In all the six states...

I'm afraid you're the only one who dares to speak to me like this.

Ying Zheng.

You think too highly of yourself.

Among the people I know

there are so many who would criticized you.

Does that include your Senior Jing too?

Get some proper rest.

I'll send my men to have your quarters guarded day and night.

[Xianyang Royal Palace, South Palace]

I have already driven Marquis Wenxin out of the capital.

The women in the harem are all mine.

Liar!

Lu Bu Wei devoted his whole life to serving Qin State!

How could he leave so easily?

Did he tell you to lie to me because he doesn't want me?

Can you come to your senses?

Great Qin now belongs to me.

With just a single command

I can have anyone live or die.

Lu Bu Wei is no longer in control!

Indeed.

You have driven Lu Bu Wei away.

You also killed my Lao Ai.

And my two children...

My two innocent children!

They are bastards!

They are bastards you had with that disgusting Lao Ai.

They are a disgrace to Great Qin.

I had your children killed outright to make it simple for you.

You had it done so simply!

You had them all killed!

How am I to live without them?

I am your mother! Your mother!

How am I to live without them?

How can you be so cruel?

Your man wanted to kill me!

How would you have had me handle that?

Did you behave like a king's mother?

A former queen's honor and elegance...

her respectable ways...

You have neither.

You had affairs with the chancellor and your kept man.

You indulged in carnal pleasure.

As the king of Great Qin

I was mocked by all the world.

It was all because of you!

Fine...

Just let me be with the chancellor.

Where is he?

Send me over to him.

I want to be with him.

I don't want to stay here...

It's so dark in here...

It's so cold...

It's so scary...

Anyone?

- Present! - Present!

Get Empress Dowager a prescription.

Let her rest well.

- Yes. - Yes.

I don't want it...

I don't want to take any medication!

- Empress Dowager... - I don't want it!

Empress Dowager!

Let me out of here!

Let me out of here!

What did you say?

Not only did His Grace assign his bodyguards to guard

Consort Li's slumber hall around the clock

but he even sent over unique treasures?

That witch from Wey State...

What does she possess for the king to be so infatuated?

In terms of birth, you are superior to her.

In terms of appearance

she isn't on par with you, it's like comparing mud to the clouds.

Could it be...

Could it be that Lady Li has some special abilities?

Perhaps that's why the king keeps being drawn to her and cares for no one else?

This is so infuriating.

Massage me a bit more.

Yes.

By the way, I told you to look for a musician from Chu State

to please Grand Empress Dowager Hua Yang at a fitting time.

Have you had that done?

Madam, please rest assured.

I have already assigned the task to be done.

The musician is already outside the palace.

The musician can perform anytime, at your command.

Very good.

However...

Madam, Lady Li was really lucky this time.

The drugs didn't work.

The child in her womb is growing day by day.

I'm afraid trying to make her miscarry again will be difficult.

Regular Palace Attendant is visiting!

Zhao Gao greets Madam Chu.

Master Zhao, do rise.

Thank you, Madam.

Acting upon His Grace's orders

I am investigating the case of the attempted assault on Lady Li.

What evidence do you have to make your way to Zhaode Palace?

This is the hall of a first-rank Madam.

Madam, I have already investigated the kitchen and all the harem servants.

There's only one matter that baffles me.

I'd like to ask you to shed some light on it.

I heard that a few days before Lady Li nearly miscarried

you asked Imperial Physician for a prescription.

Master Zhao, it's joyous news that Lady Li is expecting a royal child.

I wish for her to give birth successfully

to bring His Grace a son and prolong his bloodline.

However...

Whether or not this royal offspring is wanted by Grand Empress Dowager...

I cannot say.

Madam means to shift the blame to Grand Empress Dowager Hua Yang?

I will be honest with you then.

If it is the world that His Grace yearns for

then dignity is what the Grand Empress Dowager seeks.

Now that the major states of the world are

Southern Chu, Eastern Qi, Northern Yan, and Central Zhao...

However the power is distributed...

The mistress of the harem should not be from the subjugated Wey State.

It isn't that His Grace doesn't understand this principle.

As long as Master Zhao doesn't reveal the truth to him...

why would His Grace continue investigating such a trivial matter?

Madam Chu!

Master Zhao, you should recognize this.

This is the best jade from Chu State.

If you are fond of it

I will give it to you.

Every word you said is absolutely reasonable, Madam.

I was too disrespectful just now.

I hope that Madam and Grand Empress Dowager Hua Yang will forgive me.

Don't worry, Master Zhao.

I understand that you have been entrusted with great responsibilities

so I will be sure to put in a few good words for you

to Grand Empress Dowager.

Thank you, Madam.

I will take my leave now.

Take care, Master Zhao.

Your Grace, I have thoroughly investigated the kitchen, storage rooms

and all of the concubines' quarters.

I have not found anything suspicious.

No.

You have already discovered something.

It's just that you can't tell me.

Your Grace!

I have truly investigated thoroughly and in great detail!

It's just that...

It's just that there is someone with higher authority in this palace.

You can't tell me?

Your Grace, spare me!

If you still refuse to tell me...

I will have you killed now.

Don't kill him.

If you keep investigating this way, who knows how many lives will be lost?

In any case, my child and I are fine.

Just forget it.

If I don't chop off a few heads...

who would still respect me?

I am terrified!

Your Grace, spare me!

My child and I will be held responsible for the loss of so many lives!

I don't want my child to bear the weight of such sins before he's even born!

Your Grace!

Get lost!

Thank you, Your Grace!

Thank you, Lady Li!

Li Zhong.

Even to you, Lady Li's dinner being drugged doesn't seem to be

the work of an outsider, does it?

Your Grace, the palace has always been heavily guarded.

It's particularly so for the concubines' harem.

Never has an intruder managed to sneak in.

Speaking of intruders, there is a recent one.

It happened a few days after Lady Li joined the harem.

Commander.

Did you just say an intruder sneaked into the harem?

As heavily guarded as the palace of Qin State is

no intruder is allowed into the Inner Palace.

From what I know, he was arrested outside the royal courtyard.

However, I'm quite curious as to why Your Ladyship asks about it.

I...

I was just asking.

If such an intruder is arrested, how will he be punished?

Trespassing into the palace is a capital crime.

First, he would be sent to the dungeon to be interrogated and punished.

Should he survive the punishment

he would be sentenced to hard labor.

Why are you so interested in an intruder?

I just came to the palace, so I'm curious.

Rest well.

If you need anything, let the servants know.

They will attend to you.

I don't need anything.

Could you just return my grandfather's sword to me?

Don't even think about it.

Your Ladyship, get some rest.

Qing, I'd like to be alone.

Step outside.

Your Ladyship...

All right, I'll be standing right outside the door.

If Your Ladyship needs anything, just call for me.

Can you hear me talking to you?

Senior Jing...

We have a child.

I just hope that you can be safe.

Don't suffer because of me again.

Sir, do me a favor.

Tell me which one.

Please set that man free.

That one?

Sure.

What do you want with me?

You're really lucky.

The others! Keep moving!

Hurry up!

Get up!

Get moving!

- Quickly! Get up! - Get up!

Keep up!

- Get up! - Faster!

Hurry up!

Get up quickly!

Hurry up!

Quickly!

Move faster!

Faster!

Hurry up!

Young Warrior Jing.

Mister Tian?

I followed you all the way to Xianyang

but I couldn't find you in the city.

I thought then that you must have been arrested.

It took some effort to get news of you.

They said that you sneaked into the palace at night.

That's a capital crime!

I was so anxious that I had to contact a few connections.

Finally, after asking around for several favors

I eventually learned of your whereabouts.

Young Warrior Jing, you have suffered much.

I didn't think that you would still look out for me.

It's just that I'm as good as in living hell now.

You might as well let me die in Qin State's prison.

My life is worthless anyway.

Young Warrior Jing, no life in worthless.

Especially not yours.

Me?

As a warrior, my skills in martial arts are mediocre.

I can't protect those around me.

As a man...

I am incompetent.

I can't even protect my woman.

I really don't see the point of being alive when I'm so useless.

Young Warrior Jing, please don't say that.

Miss Gongsun sacrificed herself in order to keep you alive.

Do you know why?

It's because she knew that her grandfather entrusted you

with the responsibility to pass on his martial arts skills.

That was why she made an effort to have you improve your swordsmanship.

so that you can change the world for those who are suffering.

So you must live up to Miss Gongsun's expectations.

She sacrificed herself for the sake of everyone in the world?

She sacrificed herself for me.

What about me?

I can't even protect the one I love.

How can I protect everyone in the world?

How am I to save the world from such chaos?

I understand that you're in pain now.

In my opinion, you should come with me to Yan State first.

We'll make other plans after we get there.

We will visit famous mountains and cross hundreds of rivers.

The paths in the mountains are steep and winding.

When I can't go on down the path

you'll take my hand and lead me to the peak of the mountain.

If that's possible...

Would you be willing to do so?

I'm worried that you'll catch a cold before you become skilled.

How is it? Am I not the nicest?

What more could I ask for with a junior like you?

I just wish to find a blessed land with you

and get away from these troubles.

We could just be an ordinary couple.

Let's get going.

How is it?

Congratulations, Your Grace.

The condition of the child is now stable.

She has almost recovered.

She will only have to nourish the baby from now on

and will surely deliver the little prince successfully.

Congratulations, Your Grace!

Congratulations, Your Ladyship!

From this day forth

Lady Li and I will be sharing all of our meals.

Should anyone dare to tamper with the food

it will be regarded as disrespect towards me.

Zhao Gao!

Present.

Convey my orders.

Not a word is to be left out.

Yes! I take my leave.

You are all dismissed.

Yes.

Why would you bother to do so?

The child I'm carrying...

Aren't you the one who wants him dead the most?

It's true that I care not for your child.

But I want you alive.

Your Grace, the dinner you requested for Your Grace and Her Ladyship is ready.

Please enjoy your meal.

You are dismissed.

Yes.

Here, have some.

I really have no appetite. Why don't you have it instead?

If you won't have any, I won't either.

If so, I'll fast for three months.

I'll starve the King of Qin to death and rid the world of great harm.

If you dare to move around again

I'll treat you in an even more frightening manner.

Do you believe me?

Eat it.

I was going to eat.

But the more you force me, the more I won't.

Fine then.

If you still refuse to eat...

I'll feed you like this one by one.

Don't get any closer.

I will eat.

Here.

I'll feed myself.

Senior Jing...

Li...

Li...

Is that you?

I miss you terribly.

It pains you to miss me, but also pains you to not miss me.

When alive, we all suffer.

Li... What are you talking about?

Why don't I understand any of it?

I really don't understand...

You don't have to understand it.

You really don't.

It's just like how we counted the fishing lights on the river shore

or the sheep on the fields.

There's no meaning to it.

So you don't have to understand it.

Senior Jing...

I have a question for you.

When I asked you to leave everything behind to elope with me

you didn't answer me.

Do you regret it now?

I regret it.

I really regret it.

I regret it to no end.

I really do regret it.

Li...

Could you give me another chance?

Don't leave me...

Server!

Get me another bottle of wine!

Isn't this Gongsun Yu's prized disciple, Young Warrior Jing?

Hand over your mentor's Swan Swordsmanship manual!

What manual?

I don't know. Don't block my way.

Will you hand it over or not?

Get up!

I advise you to hand over the sword manual obediently

to save you from some beating.

It doesn't matter.

Once I bring you to Red Crown Sect

I'll pluck off a fingernail of yours today

and slice off a piece of your flesh the next day.

I'm sure that you'll talk by then.

Kill or torture me as you wish.

Stop being so long-winded!

You asked for it!

Ge Nie?

The best swordsman in the world, Ge Nie?

Not bad.

Xia Hou Yang's puppies do recognize me as well.

Ge Nie, what is it you want?

If you know what's good for you, set that young man free.

Otherwise, I'd have to teach the dogs Xia Hou Yang trained a lesson.

Let's go!

Go!

Brother Jing!

Brother Jing!

Brother Jing, are you all right?

Brother Jing...

I've made a fancy meal today.

You must eat a lot.

Whoever eats the least will have to have a match with me.

Understand?

Miss Lan does cook very well.

Thank you for the compliment.

These are just some everyday dishes.

You're too modest.

It's such a great honor to have Miss Lan and Warrior Ge Nie in my humble home.

Warrior Ge, here's a toast to you.

Brother Jing, are these dishes not to your liking?

Tell me what you like.

- I'll make them for you. - Don't bother.

I thank Warrior Ge for rescuing me today.

I express my gratitude.

But my life is now worthless.

It's not worth being saved by you.

I hope that you won't meddle in such matters again.

I take my leave.

Brother Jing...

Brother Jing!

You have so many grievances and no one to tell?

You didn't even have dinner and you're here enjoying the cool air?

How does this concern you?

It doesn't concern me.

But it does suit me to see you behave so impolitely.

It's so much better than acting like some loser greeting me politely

and bowing to me all the time.

Is that so?

If you prefer that, I can be even more impolite.

Sure.

I'll play along with you then.

If you manage to strike me, you win the match.

Judging by your current swordsmanship and strength

you won't be able to rescue your junior even if you train for another 300 years.

You wouldn't take me as your disciple then.

Yet here you are mocking me.

Some warrior you are.

Young Warrior Jing.

Your mentor's skills were just as good as mine.

If you were to train under a mentor, why forgo what is within reach?

But my mentor is--

Do you think that your mentor was so gentle and mild

that he avoided all conflict, so you doubted his skills?

You really didn't know your mentor then.

Do you know what your mentor's nickname was in the fighting world?

My mentor never mentioned it.

He didn't like to bring up his past.

Back then in the fighting world he was nicknamed Bloody Shadow.

If he got his hands on anyone, blood was spilled.

[Preview]

You must be exhausted from child birth.

Leave the child to the wet nurse.

Are you...

Are you going to send Tian Ming away?

- Li Zhong! - Present.

The imperial physician and midwife

are all to be silenced to avoid further trouble!

Convey my orders to Yao Jia to do so!

Is Your Grace is doing this for Lady Li

to prevent any rumors about the prince's parentage?

Why should I have to give explanations for my orders?

Grand Empress Dowager, Her Ladyship refused to comply with your command.

This is against palace regulations.

Slap her.

Yes.

You--

Don't hold on to her!

Come at me! Don't hit Qing!

Stop it!

Your Ladyship!

Who are you?
