and what our favorite
memories were.

My favorite memory

is when we were sitting
at the kitchen table,

and you and me and Ellie
stayed up late into the night

gluing rhinestones
on your costume.

I remember we were at
a soccer function--

You just started dancing
like there was no one around.

And your mom and I
looked at each other.

We were
kind of marveled by that.

And then one of the parents
turned to us

and said,
"I could never do that.

I could never be fearless."

From your very earliest days,

I can remember you having
the courage to be yourself

and following your heart.
