can be a career nightmare

but with a lot of hard work
and persistence,

our ladies have proven it
can also be downright dreamy.

I am of the mind
that you say yes to everything.

- I would have never thought

in my mid-40s
that I would be where I am now.

Here's this kid from Atlanta

who had a dream
and didn't have anything,

and now I'm sitting
at Simon & Schuster.

- We're so happy.

- I love it.

I would do a little bit lower
in front.

Confidence comes with age.

And here I am,
a 40-plus-year-old woman,

and I'm about to launch

my first collection
in five years.

- Yeah!

- So five episodes on "Days."

Make sure I'm really covered.

And then I'm doing "The Middle."

- Oh, my God,
you have to memorize all that?

- This is a lot of pressure,
because, as we know,

this brain is not as sharp

as it once used to be.

How many jobs
are for 40-year-old women?

- Uh, none.
- Yeah.

- You know, you cast
a 50-year-old man,

he's gonna have a 25-year-old
girlfriend or wife.

- That's my life! [laughs]

- Oops.

you all found great success
in your 40s.

Is 40 the new 30?

- I think so.

that's kind of passé
to think you're done.

- In my 20s and 30s,

I was so busy, you know,
being a mom,

you know, trying to work too,
but it was so hard.

And now it's great to be able
to do this now.

- I think it's a really great
message to send.

- So many women watching
thinking,

"Oh, well, I'm not just"...

'cause we did
used to think that.

That was that age, wasn't it,

where it was like,
"Okay, it's all over."

- Your book is out.

- That means it's selling a lot.

in your book

about your mom
that stood out to me.

- You say, "I definitely
picked up Renee's talent

"for saying hateful things.

"That's why I'm always so afraid
to lose my temper

"on 'The Real Housewives
of Beverly Hills.'

If I ever did, I would really
eviscerate someone."

So are you saying we have never
seen you lose your temper,

not even with Eileen or Teddi?

- No, I don't think so.

But I just think that Erika
needs to really understand

how it's gonna affect
the recipient of that temper,

you co-wrote the book

with someone who talked to a lot
of people in your life

except Tom.

Why is that?

- Well, I was never...
I was writing my memoir.

I wanted to write about Tom.

I... Brian and I talked to people

in recollection of my childhood
and things like that,

but I chose to write about Tom.

- Has your mom read the book
yet?

- I don't know.
- You don't know?

- Well, she helped me write it,

but I don't know
if she's read it or not.

It just came out.
I didn't send it to her before.

- Why didn't you send it to her?

- I didn't get around to it,
quite honestly.

- What does Tom think?

- He hasn't read it either.
No one's read it.

No one's read it in my family.

- I've written three books,
and the first people

that I sent them to
were my family.

I mean, Tom, you speak about him
so much in the book.

it started with no money,

They just flew off the shelf.

How I met my husband,

she tells me that her dad
is John Mellencamp,

and I see John dressed in black
with some black shades.

- He was like, "Hey!"

- My dad is in
the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,

but just because I grew up
with a father

that was famous,
we didn't live like that.

Teddi and I have in common

is that we like to exercise.

When I look at Teddi,

who used to be almost 200 pounds

and is, like, 110 pounds now,

with my weight,

and I struggled with
holding myself accountable.

I love more than riding horses.

I was a professional equestrian
for 12 years.

- We had a really scary
delivery with Cruz.

- I made sure
that it was gonna be a boy.

- Like, we could have taken
one of the 11 girls,

but we kept choosing
the one boy.

- One of your biggest jobs
is to make babies,

and when you can't,

you feel sad

'cause you're not able
to make your baby,

and you also feel sad 'cause
you feel like you're failing.

- What was wrong with Cruz?

- So he has a heart condition.

That little bit of me felt like

I chose for him to be a boy,

and, you know,
God didn't choose for me.

- You got really shaken up
talking about...

- The IVF.

Well, it's because it's kind of,
like, hitting me right now,

because my daughter
has been begging me

to have another baby.

And just watching that
reminded me,

"Oh, my gosh, that was so hard.

I don't know that I could
ever do that again."

- You seem to have guilt
over picking the boy

now that I...

- Edwin and I were, like,
dying to have a boy,

and I feel like maybe
if I would have just taken

one of the others,

then I would have had
an easier time.

But I... so I feel selfish.

- What do you think
you're gonna do?

- I need to really do
some soul searching.

- Get a dog from Vanderpump
dog rescue center.

It's like having a new addition.

- Where did the names
Slate and Cruz come from?

- Slate came...
- A soap opera casting book?

- No, my dad said
that he was gonna name...

Like, Slate was one of
his favorite names,

and ever since
I was a little girl,

I liked the name Slate.

Cruz, we had picked names
each time

that I got...
Thought I got pregnant.

- Was there ever a moment
where you thought,

"I'm gonna do Jack and Diane?"

- No! Never, never, never.

Not for one second.

My dad would never
look at me again.

- Teddi, Brittany

I worked in the mailroom

Growing up, yes,
I lived a very good life,

that you had in high school,

to Los Angeles,

but you figure it out."

pay the bills for you?

- It pays enough

that I never have to ask Edwin
for money

for anything that I want to do.
