[Episode 21]

Senior Brother, why did we come to the airport?

We're taking a flight.

- Taking a flight? - Yes.

Do you think taking a flight is like riding the subway or a bus?

- We haven't even bought tickets so how are we going to take a flight? - I already bought them.

You already bought them?

- Where are we going? - Beijing.

Why are we going to Beijing?

We're shopping.

Shopping? What do you want to buy?

How can you have so many things to say? Can you be quiet?

Senior Brother, we're about to board the plane. Are you excited?

What's wrong? Why aren't you talking?

Are you afraid of flying?

Nonsense! If I wasn't afraid, why would I call you?

So at the end of the day, I'm just here to help you with your courage?

Hurry!

Give her the ticket!

Thanks.

- Excuse me? - Mister, what can I help you with?

Can I have a cup of water?

Okay. Please wait!

Senior Brother, don't drink more water!

When we take off in a minute, you'll have to pee all the time.

However, right now, I feel like someone is stepping on my chest.

This...

Distract yourself! Look outside! The weather is so nice.

How can I see it?

It's over there. Look! Look over there.

All I see are people!

Come on! Close your eyes first.

Follow me! Breathe in.

Breathe out and relax.

Breathe in and breathe out again.

Do you feel better?

- I feel better. - You're good now?

Just relax!

Let me tell you about the competition. There are three rounds.

You have to perform two pieces for the first round.

One is chosen by you; the other is assigned to you.

I selected a few for you.

I choose Schubert.

I knew you would choose Schubert.

and Mozart. I played this song before.

Okay, let's play Mozart first since it's the assigned piece.

Teacher, do you think I can win first place?

In your dreams.

You just started. The competition isn't as simple as you think.

Besides, you have less preparation time compared to the other students.

How about this? Let's treat this competition

as a precious experience to prepare for the future.

I can't.

- Why? - I have to win first place,

because if I do, I can get the scholarship and go abroad.

Student Fang Xiaowo, you've changed!

You've become more realistic and are eager for instant success.

Furthermore, you've become more competitive, too.

- It's because of— - Because of what?

Li Zhenyan again, right? Practice!

I've told you so many times about the rhythm.

Don't compose! Play according to the music score, one note after another.

If you randomly played like you just did, it can only prove

that you haven't truly understood

the composer and his work. The judges won't give you a high score.

Also, the breakpoints need to be distinct.

Every music note represents a different meaning.

It all depends on you to present it.

- I got it. - Continue!

Then... Teacher Zhang.

Can you go through the back doors for the competition?

Our school has doors in the east and west.

Which one do you think is the back door?

What I mean is, if the judges give high scores to their own students

or if a parent gives them a red envelope.

What kind of a competition do you think Maraudon is? The order that contestants play in is based on their assigned number.

Names and schools aren't revealed. Who knows whom? Which back door are they supposed to go through?

That means there's no back door.

If there's none, then I'm at ease.

Enough! Stop thinking of those useless things.

By the way, I'm quite puzzled.

You play Mozart so well. But Schubert?

It's like you're falling into a pit.

I've played so many other styles.

I wanted to change my style and play it in a different way.

I'm warning you.

The test requires you to choose a piece from a composer you know.

Didn't you say it's easier to get a higher score if it's harder?

Let me give you a suggestion.

If you want to reach the sweetest and most delicious apple on a tree,

shouldn't you stand on a tall stool?

But if your tall stool isn't stable, would you be able to get it?

But I really don't know what Schubert is thinking. I don't understand him.

Schubert is indeed a little difficult to understand.

But I think

you're the hardest to understand.

Continue practicing!

Schubert, I'm already trying my best to talk to you and be your friend.

What on earth are you thinking?

Why is your music so hard to understand?

Li Zhenyan!

Hello.

Xiaowo, do you know why you don't understand

when you talk to him?

I don't know.

It's because you only talk about what's on your own mind.

You should be asking Schubert, isn't that right?

Ask about the meaning behind his piece and what he wants to show through it.

That way you can become friends with him, and bring out the life force of his music.

How do you know that I... I'm practicing Schubert?

Stand up!

Stand up!

Come on. Blink!

Turn to your left!

Take three steps forward.

Turn left again.

Take a big step forward... and open the blinds!

Why are you here?

I was afraid you would mess up the practice room as you did to your house,

so I came to take a look and clean up for you.

Seeing each other behind the blinds makes us seem like Romeo

and Juliet.

You don't look like her at all! You look like small Doudou standing beside a window.

What's small Doudou?

It's a story about a young boy who always played the piano and became a pianist.

Look at what I brought you!

Good food!

It's tasty!

This isn't right! Where did you get Peking roasted duck?

- Beijing. - Then you took-took...

I took a flight.

You took a flight? This is great! You can ride in an airplane now!

Don't worry! I'll definitely win first place in this competition.

- I want to go to Europe with you. - Wait a second!

You only practiced the piano for a day and you want to get first place?

Don't you know that you have to take it one step at a time?

I'm telling you!

Each note has it's own significance, not a single one is unnecessary.

You must completely understand the composer's intent for the piece.

Only then can you express the true meaning of his music. Understand?

Don't worry! I'll become his friend.

I believe in you.

- What are you looking at? - I need to recharge.

Recharge?

- Are you finished recharging? - I'm done!

I'll definitely get first place this time.

Eat your duck!

This is so tasty.

♫ No matter where I'm standing, just another landscape ♫

♫ Take away the white clouds, then it becomes rain, soaked in your thoughts ♫

I just got home. I'll see you on the day of the competition.

♫ How do I explain what I think of your whereabouts ♫

♫ How can I endure time without you? ♫

♫ To love is to think of where you are non-stop ♫

♫ As boundless as the universe, only your eyes are looking into my eyes ♫

♫ Stirring confusion in the air ♫

♫ Happiness will reach the peak ♫

♫ Our smiles disturbed by the wind ♫

♫ You are singing our song; I am smelling your scent, entering a dreamland of love ♫

♫ Happiness will reach the peak ♫

♫ The moonlight is making our hearts transparent ♫

♫ One day, I'll appear again ♫

What's going on?

She was playing Schubert randomly yesterday,

but how is she playing it so well today?

Li Zhenyan came yesterday.

When you listen to her playing, doesn't it seem like she's a different person?

- What did you say? Who came? - Li Zhenyan.

Why did he come?

He probably came to teach Xiaowo the piano.

Does Fang Xiaowo need Li Zhenyan to teach her?

Enough! Our time is limited.

It's a good thing as long as there's an improvement.

I'm telling you, don't push Xiaowo too much and don't make her practice so much.

The competition is important but her health is even more important.

Okay, I got it!

To be honest, she improved quite a bit.

Based on this momentum, it won't be hard to get first place.

[Let's Rock]

Does it taste good?

But why did you suddenly buy so many Beijing specialties?

Did your family suddenly become rich?

Remember not to tell anyone about what happened today.

Senior Brother.

What are you doing?

A family member came from Beijing and they brought these for us.

Xiaowo's first round of the competition is about to start.

I wonder how her preparation is going.

I'm quite worried about her.

With someone there, we don't need to worry.

That's true.

Try this one!

This jujube paste will surely be delicious.

Fang Xiaowo, you'll definitely win.

We've all come today to give you super-human strength.

If you win, I'll treat you to hotpot.

I'll treat you all.

Xiaowo, you're such a nice person, so you'll definitely have good luck.

Even though you steal my food every time we eat

and you get to eat Senior Brother's food,

I really envy you but I still hope everything goes well with your competition.

- Don't get eliminated in the first round. - Shut it!

Don't be too nervous! Just perform like you always do.

You have to be relaxed to show your best state.

That's right, Fang Xiaowo! Treat the audience like little sheep.

You are RS Team's lucky charm so you must show them the RS Team's power.

Senior Brother, say something!

Hurry!

You already heard that everyone is concerned about you,

so you have to be confident in yourself.

After all, I believe that you can do it and win it.

But no matter what happens, I'll be by your side.

Wow, "I'll be by your side."

Oh, right! When you go on stage, it might be a little cold.

Remember to put on a jacket and warm your hands beforehand.

Oh, right! Remember to memorize all the music.

Who doesn't know how to show love affection?

"Remember, the place is cold so make sure you warm your hands."

What are you doing?

Let's welcome contestant no. 28.

Timing and subtitles brought to you by The Symphony Lovers @ Viki

Xiaowo, do you know

that the you right now is filled with happiness and power.

You are sending out your own radiance everywhere.

You're really different now.

I was always worried that you wouldn't understand Schubert's passion.

This piece was when Schubert gradually began to find his own language and style.

And you should develop towards this goal.

I didn't know you would be the judge of the competition.

- That's right. - Amazing!

I've come back to the country for a few days, but I'll be going abroad to perform later.

I was busy with the competition so I didn't have time to contact you.

This competition...

The winner of this competition can go abroad to study.

Did you secretly sign up?

I secretly signed up to be part of the audience, not the competition.

I understand. Okay, let's meet when we have time.

Go back to your work.

Over here!

Li Zhenyan!

- I passed the first round. - I know, I already saw. You did very well today.

Then shouldn't you reward me?

Your reward today is that I'll make whatever you want to eat.

- Let's leave the meal for next time. - What's wrong?

Because I have to go back to the practice room to prepare for the second round.

I can only leave you to your empty bed, all alone.

My empty bed, all alone? What are you talking about?

Let's go, then! I'll take you back to the classroom.

Bring me another roasted duck when you go to Beijing again.

- Why? - Anyway, you can take a flight now.

Do you think it's easy to take a flight?

Didn't I just bring you one, two days ago?

It's the same flight. I'll wait for you at the usual place.

- Shasha? - Yisong.

I have good news.

The Maestro just called my dad.

He said that he has time tonight, so he wants to meet you.

- Tonight? - Yes.

- I'm afraid I can't. - Why?

This is a rare opportunity.

What's wrong? Where are you going?

Shasha, it's Caiwei's and my anniversary.

We've already settled on it so I have to go keep her company.

I see! However, it's difficult to arrange an appointment with Maestro.

Can you change it to another day with Caiwei?

But hasn't your dream always been to perform on the best stage as a conductor?

If you get the Maestro's recognition today, your dream will soon come true.

Caiwei is so compassionate, she will definitely understand, won't she?

Not to mention, you work so hard,

isn't it all for her to see that you stand on a bigger stage?

Caiwei, I don't know what's with you but your condition isn't too good.

I can only give you this score. I'm sorry!

I didn't expect Li Zhenyan to change into a person who compliments his girlfriend in Moments.

He really changed a lot.

I should be happy.

Yisong finally fulfilled his dream.

Hello? Why did you think of calling me?

I made a decision.

I've decided to participate in a

national competition for conductors in Paris.

You're going to Paris?

Are you sure you mean Paris?

Yes, Paris.

Why so sudden?

It's not really considered sudden for I, actually, thought about it for a long time.

In addition, someone kept encouraging me, so I decided to give it a try.

I'm not surprised then.

I like Fang Xiaowo even more now.

[Music Hall]

You passed Hindwell?

I was one of the contestants, and I passed the test.

Afterward, I'll just have an interview and more practice there.

It's a good orchestra. Congrats!

After I passed, I dropped out of Team A

because I don't have enough time.

I still have to strive for my dream.

What about you Qing Shang? When are you going abroad?

I-I-I... I haven't thought about it yet.

Could it be that you want to stay in Team RS forever?

Li Zhenyan isn't bad, but I heard he's about to go to France to participate in a competition.

I-I know.

Let me tell you! The people participating in the competition are so amazing.

Team A was looking for new members today but we want to join Team RS more.

However, technically, Team RS isn't officially registered.

To be honest, our orchestra can only be considered a private musical group.

It's fine! We came for you, Conductor Li Zhenyan.

We would be glad to have any position, even if it's just an alternative.

This... thank you.

There will be performances, right?

Right! We were thinking about a performance.

Reconsider us! We practiced really hard.

Okay. I'll reconsider it.

- Last year, I got third place at a national violin competition in London. - Really?

My ability shouldn't be worse than your orchestra's concertmaster, right?

To be completely honest, I find your abilities to be quite far behind our concertmaster's.

Also, I think your understanding of the pieces

might not even be comparable to our first chair second violin.

However, we really want to join Team RS.

I know but our orchestra has no plans to recruit new members.

What's wrong?

Nothing!

I think we should all prepare for the upcoming performance and work hard together.

This is a great thing. Also,

I feel like our orchestra can keep going forever.

It feels like our dreams are coming true.

Isn't that so?

Let me talk first!

I think, with you in the orchestra,

along with Senior Brother and everyone else,

it feels so great.

Also, did you hear what Senior Brother say just then?

I just knew he had good insight; I just knew he wouldn't give up on me;

and I just knew he cared about us the most.

I was so touched just then.

I think that in a team like this,

I can practice and go forward with everyone.

I'm too blissful!

Springtime, come to Europe!

- What did you say? - I will arrange everything.

It's time! And I'll wait for you, Qing Shang.

Student Fang Xiaowo, I'm officially announcing that

from today on, we'll be racing against time.

Before the second round, practice those pieces

that are on the piano, especially the piece by Chopin.

The one you're holding. Take a look!

Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu?

What's wrong? Is it hard?

This one... in the past...

You learned it in the past?

Did Hu Qianjue teach you?

Can he teach you such a difficult song with his abilities?

I listened to it when I was younger.

Li Zhenyan said before that if I want to understand a piece,

I'll have to see what the composer wrote in the music.

When Chopin wrote Fantaisie-Impromptu,

he was only 24 years old. When playing this piece, the fingers dance fiercely

to create a mystical fantasy.

Just like capturing a batch of stars and sprinkling them onto the Earth.

Thank you for letting me enter

a beautiful and romantic dreamland.

Next are the results for the second round.

Five contestants get to move on.

No. 12.

No. 5.

No. 20.

No. 37.

The last contestant who made it

is a performer who astounded the judges with her experience.

No. 28.

- No. 28? - It's me!

I've entered the final round. It scared me so much!

I even thought I wouldn't make it.

Shouldn't you be happy that I made it?

Wasn't it completely expected that you would make it to the final round?

That's true! I just wanted to tell you first thing when I made it in, so unlike you.

You've worked hard these past few days.

Actually, I wanted to say that you were really great during the competition.

You also know that I'm very strict when it comes to music.

It isn't easy for me to compliment you.

I know. I know.

Getting a compliment from you is harder than getting a pass to heaven.

Oh, right! I still have to hurry to go back and practice.

I will come to watch you during the final round.

I will definitely win first place to show you, but...

I want a...

present.

The present you're talking about, is going home and cooking you food, right?

It's a green light! Let's hurry and go.

I-I... Li Zhenyan, I want a hug filled with love.

Out of three pieces, I chose two for you.

For the final round, you are going to play Beethoven's Sonata No. 23.

and Bach's Prelude No. 23.

It's a bit hard on you.

The final round is approaching but you only have a few days to practice.

Girl, do you know

that what makes me proud of you is the fact that you're still here.

That means your potential is limitless.

Why don't you take a look?

- It's so hard. - How about this?

From these two pieces, pick one that can show your abilities the best.

That way, you'll be in a more advantageous position in the final round.

Okay.

Stop!

How come you still don't remember?

The rhythm and strength!

You don't have rhythm or strength.

What is that called, then? Continue!

Stop!

Have you not eaten yet? You're playing like a hungry maniac.

Who's owing you?

What's wrong?

Xiaowo, go and have your dinner.

It won't do if you don't eat. You haven't eaten since yesterday.

- You won't have the energy to play during the final round. - Enough! Wait for me.

Come out with me!

How many times did I tell you?

Don't interrupt when I'm teaching my students.

Her time is already limited.

She isn't playing her new piece well.

- What is she going to do during the final round? - Are you saying there's not a lot of hope for the final round?

There is hope but we have to encourage her

and have her practice, right?

Enough! I'll eat whatever food you delivered.

Aren't you trying to help build up Xiaowo's strength?

Just go and take out some good food at the supermarket instead.

- I'm going to class. - Okay.

Hello? Hello, Li Zhenyan.

Why haven't you slept yet?

Do you miss me?

I came to check up to see if you're slacking.

I'm not slacking! I practiced from dawn to dusk.

I accidentally fell asleep because I was so tired.

- Is that so? It's that tough? - No, it's not tough at all.

I said before, I want to get first place.

Okay then. When you come back, I'll make you a championship dish of red braised pork.

Okay.

Qi Yu.

Xiaowo got in!

- Hello, Teacher Zhang. - Hello, Teacher Zhang.

Teacher Zhang, can we go visit Fang Xiaowo?

- She got into the final round. - That's right!

She must be super happy. We want to go out and have a big meal.

Stop, stop, stop! Enough, enough.

You guys are students, not the paparazzi.

You guys don't have to be so impulsive, okay?

Moreover, Xiaowo is very busy right now.

There is a time crunch and the task is not easy.

She has no time to eat and have fun with you guys, got it?

Okay then! We'll take you to eat then, Teacher Zhang.

Take me? Of course, I can consider that.

- Let's talk about that after the competition ends. - Okay.

Besides, Xiaowo's state isn't very stable right now.

I'm begging you guys, please don't disturb her.

You can secretly support her in your heart

and that's enough.

We don't know if she can get first place.

Teacher Zhang, you can't destroy your own confidence.

You're Mario Paci's annihilator, after all. - Annihilator?

I mean... you're an excellent teacher, right?

Think about it! Fang Xiaowo is so gifted and met such a good teacher.

She's definitely got this championship.

That's right! Teacher Zhang, we're all your fans.

- We're confident in you and Xiaowo. - That's right.

Look! Look at how well she put it.

It was all of a sudden and I wasn't prepared.

I didn't expect that I would have fans among the students.

- Teacher, I'm also your fan. - It's an honor.

Well... which department are you in?

I'm in the violin department.

Let me give you a suggestion.

While you're practicing the violin,

go find Teacher Hu if you have time.

- Teacher Hu? - That's right! Learn how to talk nicely.

Okay. Enough!

I understand all of your concerns.

I'll thank you guys for Xiaowo.

I will try my best to help her

get first place

in this Maraudon competition.

- Okay? - Okay!

Also, let me mention a request.

Everyone, if you really want to cheer for Xiaowo,

then let's cheer for her together on stage, okay? - Okay.

She's got this!

♫ On the surface of the shimmering sea ♫

♫ Blocked by the navy blue sea ♫

♫ It doesn’t matter; time will not be forgotten ♫

♫ Attracting my gaze ♫

Stop! Stop! Stop!

I told you to stop!

♫ I won't forget your smile ♫

♫ It's okay, let's leave it at that ♫

♫ Clowns are not afraid to be broken ♫

♫ Time burns to ashes ♫

♫ And it doesn't matter ♫

Is something wrong?

Have you been busy recently?

But you probably didn't come to ask about me.

Are you so busy that you're not concerned about Fang Xiaowo?

- What do you mean? - After the second round, her condition hasn't been too good.

It seems that she's not doing that great at Teacher Zhang's place.

- Don't you know that? - I knew.

It's probably because she's too nervous.

It should be because of some bad memories.

Xiaowo, look at your hands.

Curve your fingers! Curve them! Got it?

How many times did I tell you? Are you an idiot?

Didn't I tell you to go home and practice the piano?

It's been so long and you still can't learn a song well.

Why are you so stupid?

Don't you look at the sheet music?

Since she was younger, Xiaowo always played carefreely.

She was different from me, someone who can't even play a single note incorrectly.

But if her freedom is restricted,

then she'll be trapped in her small world,

unable to move forward.

It's hard for me to imagine how Xiaowo still has a passion for playing piano,

even after such a shock.

But at this time, she can't go through that kind of shock again.

Li Zhenyan, you're the only one that can help her.
