Howdy, cats and kittens.

It's sure nice to have a lot of good friends.

But today's story is all about what

happens when your good friend gets a new friend of their own.

OK. What do you call a platypus dressed as a cowboy?

-What? -A platy-puss-in-boots.

[LAUGHTER]

Now, it's Sally's turn. Sally?

Where is she?

Sally always sits right there and tells the joke,

what's the best way to meet a squirrel?

And then, she says--

climb a tree and act like a nut.

Act like nut.

I get it, because squirrels love nuts.

Well, I don't get it.

Tuesday is joke day.

Sally always sits and tells that joke with us, not Boo Burrow.

NARRATOR: Pete told his pals not to worry.

Sometimes it's fun to sit with other friends at lunch, and...

Pete's right.

But joke day doesn't feel like joke day

without Sally telling her squirrel joke.

[BELL RINGING]

All right, children.

It's story time.

Everyone find a reading partner.

-Emma. -Bonjour, Sally.

Would you like to come read a story with moi?

Obviously I would love to.

But I already promised Boo I'd be her reading partner.

Sally and I are reading--

Hey, Sally, are you ready for all of us

to peanut butter and jam?

Actually, Boo says it's the first

of bark collecting season.

So we're going to collect all the barks, baby.

Well, I'll be at the next rehearsal.

And I'll find a cool piece of bark for all of you.

NARRATOR: Pete wanted to calm his pals down

and tell him that it's cool that Sally's

hanging out with Boo.

She's nice, and she's still pretty new to Cat City.

So she just wants a friend.

Yes, but Sally was our friend first.

-We need to win her back. -Yeah.

We can do all the things Sally likes,

and then she'll want to hang out with us again for sure.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

Bonjour, Sally. I am glad to find you here.

Oh, look. Pete and I made you a sweet acorn pie.

That's my favorite.

It'll give Boo and I just the energy

we need to keep bark hunting.

Come on. Sweet acorn pie for everyone.

of the Small Mammalian World."

It should be quite a shrill.

[LAUGHTER]

I have a foolproof plan that will absolutely

bring our Sally back to us.

were good at swimming and climbing trees.

Say, Sally, I got a spare ticket to Cat

City's cool new attraction, the world's largest acorn.

You want to come?

Boo got me that same thing.

Now you can come with us.

I wanted you guys to hang out with Boo.

You saw how much fun they're having.

Sally only wants to be friends with Boo now.

We tried everything to win her back, but nothing worked.

She's gone over to the Boo side.

NARRATOR: Then like happens sometimes,

the most obvious idea comes to you.

And in this case, it came to Pete.

Pete realized that instead of losing Sally,

they had a chance to gain a new friend in Boo.

So you're saying instead of trying to get Sally

away from Boo this whole time--

why haven't we tried that?

We have to tell you something.

[GASP] That you don't want to be friends with me anymore?

[INTERPOSING VOICES]

Well you didn't want to hunt for bark with us,

or have pie, or go see the movie.

You even slided on the slide without us.

I guess we thought you wanted to do

those things only with Boo.

No. She's a new pal,

and we've been having a lot of fun lately.

But do I have to choose between you?

You don't. That's what we wanted to tell you.

because they're climbing Cat Meowntain.

All right, Pete, we're right behind you, my boy.

It's just straight to the top.

That's the tallest mountain I've ever seen!

It's also the only mountain I've ever seen.

Let's go.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

Come on, Grumpy.

From the top you have the best view of Cat City.

Bobby is right.

I think we can make it, my friend.

I hear there is a nice camping spot up there.

Well, that might be fun, but we'll

have to do an awful lot of walking, and climbing,

and then more walking.

And there's a perfectly good campsite right here.

Yes, at the top, there's a book

where anyone who hikes up

can leave their paw print to show

that they made it all the way.

NARRATOR: As you can see, our friend Pete's excited.

He's wanted to put his paw print in that book

ever since he was a little kitten.

You heard him.

Just put one foot in front of the other to get started.

Oops. Looks like someone is lagging behind.

Come on, Grumpy.

♪ Well the tent's loaded up, we're ready to go ♪

♪ And we got our backpacks on ♪

-♪ We're going to the peak ♪ -That's the Meowntain Peak.

NARRATOR: Makes me think of that old saying,

"How do you climb a mountain?

One goofy step at a time."

♪ We're all feeling strong ♪

♪ Following Pete, we're moving our feet ♪

♪ And we're singing a happy song ♪

I've never seen trees this big.

You know what are on the biggest trees?

The most biggest acorns!

[GASP] Butterflies!

The mountain peak!

It's the peak we seek.

[MUSIC STOPS]

We're on the right trail, but it's blocked.

How are we supposed to go up, then?

Aw, this is harder than I thought.

Oh well, we tried. Guess we'll just have to

head back down. [GRUNT]

[MUSIC PLAYING]

Huh. Good eye, my boy.

Branches are just covering the trail.

Pete's right.

It wasn't hard when we were looking at butterflies.

Come on, guys. Let's help.

Aw, look how beautiful.

Who knew it'd be so nice on the other side?

And in honor of that, I won't say, "Are we there yet" yet.

We're about halfway there, Grumpy.

Pete! [SLURPING] These are delicious.

[SLURPING] So fresh, [SLURPING] so juicy,

[SLURPING] [GULP] Let's keep going.

I've never felt the sun so hot.

Is that because we're closer to it?

I know the hike is about the journey

and not the destination,

but the journey, she is so long.

are not here because this isn't the top.

The top is up there.

[GROAN] I'm beginning to think we'll never be there yet.

you want to call it quits?

Pete is tuckered out, so why don't you all

go up to the peak with Pappy?

Shall we push on to the top, kids?

So Pete is pretty tired.

We can stay here with him.

Well, yeah, but he wanted to go to all the tops.

because he spent the whole hike

helping and encouraging us.

And he really wants to put his paw in that book.

And there's all the views up there.

We can do for him what he did for us--

help and encourage him.
