Øresund and Køge Bay are peculiar
as the salt content changes

during the year. And it affects
the currents significantly.

The surplus water from the Baltic Sea
makes the water flow to the north

and the tide turns both direction and
strength of the current multiple times a day.

And then the wind also has an effect.

The Eastern European rivers
flow into the Baltic Sea.

That water pushes itself up
through Ørsesund.

Since the water in the rivers is fresh water,
it causes the salt content to drop.

If it rains a lot, then the rivers grow
large and then the salt content decreases.

That impacts the current because the fresh
water moves above the saltier deeper water.

So the conditions from
August 10ᵗʰ until

now impacts on where
we should search?

Exactly. The most crucial are
the current's conditions at the

time of the dogs' markings, for
then we can calculate backwards.

If we look at the first
marking, August 29ᵗʰ at 14.30.

Then we have a mark here.

We know the current is moving
north, so that means the dogs are

reacting to something that is
located in the southernmost part.

- How far is it from the mark?
- Up to 2000 meters.

So the scent and the gases can move
underwater for up to 2 km?

It's a little complicated,
and I've seen your sketch.

Firstly, it is not gas, but fatty
materials that drift by the current.

And it is also fatty materials
that the dogs react

to. And that is what
has caused your issue.
