I had my first class here.

met once to divvy up Africa.

They cut it into pieces like a cake.

The teacher asked us
to the draw the colonies on map.

My colors spilled over,
into the ocean.

At recess I read what Europeans
did in Africa.

They chased the Blacks from their
lands to get their resources.

The Europeans got too rich
and fought each other.

You should see my classmates.

There are some from Africa,
Spain, France, Greece.

But nobody like you.

They asked me where I'm from.

From the forest, I said.
My best friend's an Abenaki warrior.

Nobody believed me.

One kid said I was weird.
