about this symbol.

[cackles] Yes.

This is the symbol used by a very rich man

named J. Jacob Ascot.

[all] Ascot?

Uh, no relation.

I had his journal and diaries down here.

But someone stole them!

J. Jacob Ascot was one of the wealthiest men in Manhattan.

In the 1870s, '80s and '90s,

he helped build the city,

and much of these subway tunnels.

It was rumored he had his own private train car and subway station.

On that train car was a safe,

which held a great treasure.

Upon his death,

he had the train car and his private station sealed.

It's been lost for over 120 years!

And the Gator Man Monster?

The Gator Man Monster?

[laughing] Oh!

Yes, the legend of a sewer worker

that lived so long in the sewers,

catching and cooking gators,

that he finally became one!

[cackles]

Or something. I'm not sure.

It may be the greatest and most important mystery

of all time!

[cackling]

Bye-bye, cutie pies.

[Fred grunts]

I guess I am kind of a poet of traps.

See, Freddy, you've always understood poetry.

Just in your own way.

And now let's see who this gator man monster really is.

[all] The poetry slam promoter?

It's all quite simple, really.

Speak it, girl. Speak your truth.

I always do.

You see, while exploring the underground library,

the poetry slam promoter discovered the diaries of J. Jacob Ascot.

He managed to steal them from the keeper of knowledge.

-[yelping] -No, no, no, no, no, no!

[cackling]

Excuse me, like, crazy old dude lady.

Never mind. V, please continue.

Through the diaries, he learned about the lost subway station

and more importantly, the great treasure.

[Halsey]An original hand-written poem.

[Velma]He created the gator man monster costume

as a way to steal the old brass engine key undetected,

and scare everyone away from the trail.

I was so close to finding that poem.

I would've been rich. Rich!

And I would've gotten away with it too,

if it weren't for you meddling kids

and famous singer/award-winning,

multi-platinum, alternative pop maverick, Halsey!

Do... Do you think you could let me see it? Just once?

Better than that, hang on.

[grunts]

[Velma] The treasure we found

is none other than the original hand-written version of the poem,

"The New Colossus."

It was written for the Statue of Liberty by Emma Lazarus in 1883.

"Mother of Exiles.

From her beacon-hand glows world-wide welcome, her mild eyes command"

Like, "Give me, your tired." Like, "Your poor."

"Your huddled Scoobies, yearning to breathe free."

Not exactly those words, but you get the idea.
