Twisted Fate of Love

Episode 40

The marked properties in the capital

all belonged to Minister Fang.

Go check them out.

There might be surprises.

Surprises?

Today I saw

some people purchased them.

It could be Eagle.

They must be looking for

something important.

I don’t care who’s behind them,

but Minister Fang must’ve left something

related to his death.

It could be connected with the Mings.

Xi,

are you saying

we can still turn things around?

I see. I’m on it.

Taiji Gate

I expected to see

two dead bodies

at Feng Xi’s wedding,

Feng Xi’s and Fang Yuan’s.

I’m sorry that I lost Feng Xi.

He had taken precautions

and managed to escape.

Guards are looking for him as we speak.

He’s no longer

your concern.

I’ve sounded him out.

Feng Xi believes Fang Yuan

is the mastermind of the Mings’ deaths.

Now that

he’s dead,

no one could prove the Mings’ innocence.

There was

nothing else Feng Xi could do.

Judging by your tone,

you’re speaking for him, aren’t you?

I wouldn’t dare.

-It’s just... -Enough!

Since you’re so softhearted,

I won’t

pressure you.

Just stay and reflect on yourself.

You can’t leave the palace

without my permission.

Father.

Father, am I grounded?

You’re in poor condition.

Other than me,

who will handle state affairs?

Your Majesty.

Be careful, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

You think I’m too sick to rule the state without you?

Have you even decided on the date

to ascend the throne?

I wouldn’t dare.

Priest He.

Your Majesty.

How many times have I told you

the mood swing is bad for your health?

In order to live long,

you have to control your temper.

I wish

I’d have more people like you

to share my burden.

Guards.

Yes.

Take the Third Prince away.

Yes.

Father...

Your Majesty.

As the next ruler of the state,

isn’t such punishment

too heavy for him?

Priest He,

you’ve promised me

that once the pill is made,

I’ll achieve immortality.

Look,

I’m more energetic than before.

Will...

Will that day come soon?

You’ll enjoy an endless life and fortune.

Relax.

I’d know

if you were followed.

General Zang.

Have you been following

Marquis’s order?

I’ve given His Majesty stimulant for seven days.

He’s in better condition

and he firmly believes

he’s likely to live forever.

Just as expected.

Give him a little hope,

and he’s thinking to depose Crown Prince.

Marquis is right about everything.

Crown Prince is grounded in the palace

for failing to capture Feng Xi.

The timing of revolt...

Whether it’s time or not

isn’t your business.

But during this time,

you need to prepare

stronger medicine for His Majesty.

You seem to miss this place.

I miss those days we were here.

I wish you could worry less,

stop plotting against others

and live a carefree life.

Your wish will soon come true.

Minister Feng,

Miss Dongyue.

Minister Feng,

Miss Dongyue.

Did you come alone?

Where’s Crown Prince?

Since he went to the palace to report back to His Majesty,

he’s been grounded in Taiji Hall.

What?

Has His Majesty lost his mind?

That’s his only heir.

Without him, who will succeed to the throne?

Rumors in the palace are

His Majesty is going to depose him.

My guess is

that’s a bait to lure you out.

Even if Crown Prince weren’t grounded,

I wouldn’t hide forever.

We need a plan

to get him out.

Don’t act rashly.

Xinyao is the one in trouble

while I’m still a free man.

Why are you worried about me?

I...

Can’t I be selfish for once?

Alright.

We’ll think up a plan

as you said.

You can go back and rest.

Let’s go.

Why?

Feng Xi!

What’s wrong?

I dreamed about my mother.

Was it bad?

I assumed

she’d smile in my dream

after I avenged her death,

but just now,

she kept crying

just like 20 years ago

when she

saw His Majesty the last time.

You’ve been haunted for so long.

Even though the culprit is dead,

you still need more time to let it go.

Fang Yuan is dead,

but the Ming family is still wronged.

I haven’t been able to

clear Mother’s name.

Would she

blame you for that?

Perhaps she didn’t cry

for injustice done on her family,

but for you.

Me?

Seeing the loved one

sinking too deep

into hatred,

everyone would shed tears.

Dongyue,

you know things aren’t that easy.

I still have unfinished tasks.

Feng Xi,

you’ve been burdened too much.

This time, I’ll end everything for you.

Sealed by Court of Judicial Review in the year of Wushen

Rise

Good Fortune

Letters?

“The war at the border drags on.

Ming Qian is too powerful

and he keeps asking for more supplies

and troops.

For the safety of the state,

Inspector Fang Yuan is assigned

to watch Ming Qian’s every move

and report back on a daily basis”.

“I’ve received your report.

Haoshan’s surrender is suspicious.

It could be a sham.

If Ming Qian colludes with them

to take over Yin,

chaos will rise.

Remember,

get hold of the Instrument of Surrender.

I have other plans”.

Ridiculous!

“Twelve gold plaques have been issued.

You and Lu Yuantong shall stick to the plan.

I’ll personally take care of

the evidence of treason.

Once Ming Qian returns,

capture him immediately”.

So this is the whole truth about Ming family!

I feel bad for General Ming.

I guess

Minister Fang kept the letters to protect himself.

If Minister Feng sees this,

he and His Majesty will...

You’re right.

I don’t want Feng Xi

to take revenge on his father

or act like

his father.

The last thing I want is to see him

live with hatred for the rest of his life.

Are you sure you’re going to

see His Majesty on your own?

Have you checked every place

marked in the map?

Yes, all of them.

I found nothing special

other than tons of silver.

Xi,

do we still have the chance

to turn the tables?

The case is dead,

but we must get Xinyao out.

Are you going to act against His Majesty?

Why do you care so much?

You’re concerned

and so is Dongyue.

Really?

What’s your plan?

Find out officials

that the Ming family helped,

and whether they’re still in office or not.

Get me

their posts and ranks.

Crown Prince’s mistake isn’t too big.

Without the majority support,

he can’t be deposed.

I see. I’ll take care of it.

Such a trifle isn’t worth my time.

Ask him to leave.

Director Lu isn’t here alone.

I’m not going to see anyone.

It’s former Junior Supervisor,

Dongyue.

Greetings, Your Majesty.

Rise.

Lu Chuan,

you said

you have a plan

to capture that remnant Feng Xi.

Your Majesty.

That wasn’t his idea.

I forced him

to take me to see Your Majesty.

I need to see His Majesty.

For what?

I’m going to show him something

that will

drive him so mad

that he’ll get bent out of shape.

Don’t tell me

you’ve changed sides

and you’ll tell me Feng Xi’s whereabouts.

I’m here to ask you to stop before it’s too late.

Admit your fault to the public

and uphold justice

for the Ming family.

How dare you!

Who do you think you are?

You’re the one at fault.

Secret Letter

Secret Letter Minister Fang left this letter

in which he wrote how he made the switch,

Secret Letter forged the letter to the enemy

Secret Letter and

Secret Letter who wrote that letter.

It was you

who set General Ming up.

Your Majesty.

Content of the Letter

That old bastard!

Fang Yuan seemed loyal,

but he was selfish.

Of course he’d keep leverage for himself.

Your Majesty,

that letter is the key evidence.

I certainly wouldn’t bring

the original copy with me.

What...

What exactly do you want?

Please spare Feng Xi

and vindicate the Mings.

Vindicate them?

Vindicate them?

Your Majesty.

Pang Xi

Are you familiar with that inscription?

Pang Xi

That’s the name of my son, Xi.

Where did you get that seal?

It is Feng Xi’s.

He’s you and Noble Consort Ming’s son,

the Second Prince of Yin.

Feng Xi is Pang Xi?

Pang Xi is Feng Xi?

He still doesn’t know

you plotted the whole thing.

I hate to see my husband

fight against his father.

If you grant my requests,

I promise

that he’ll never find out about this.

But if you don’t,

the original letter

will be put on his desk immediately.

You know him.

He’ll do anything to rehabilitate the Mings,

and may even collaborate with Lu Yuantong.

You’re free

to weigh your options.

No wonder I can’t help growing fond of him

every time I see him.

Lord of Heaven,

did you save him

and give him back to me

so that...

so that I can right my wrongs?

Will you right your wrongs?

All these years, that case

has been a burden on my shoulders.

I regret what I did.

It pains me deeply.

Your Majesty.

Be careful, Your Majesty.

Rest assured.

The ceremony of conferring

will be held in the palace

in three days.

I’ll acknowledge him as my son.

Meanwhile, I’ll issue a public apology

and redress the injustice.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Xi!

Xi!

Xi!

Stop worrying.

Dongyue might’ve left to shop for groceries.

His Majesty has eyes and ears around the capital.

Why didn’t she tell me before leaving?

And...

-There she is. -Look.

She’s back.

Dongyue,

where were you?

Lu Chuan and I went to the palace.

The palace?

You’d get yourselves killed, you know?

I knew you’d make a fuss.

We returned safe and sound

with good news.

Are you sure His Majesty

is going to vindicate the Mings?

I didn’t expect he’d agree so easily.

Seeing that seal,

he was no longer himself.

Maybe he assumed

you had long gone

and couldn’t redeem it,

so he refused to admit his fault.

Why can’t I

see Minister Fang’s letters?

Inside is nothing

but how he forged letters to the enemy

to switch the Instrument of Surrender and fooled His Majesty.

If you confronted His Majesty

with those letters,

tension would grow.

A family reunion

would turn into a nasty fight.

I’ve already

lost my father

since 20 years ago.

I understand you’ve been

chained up by hatred for long.

Your life is bitter.

But more hatred

won’t drive out the bitterness.

Only if you let it go

can you move on with your life.

Don’t you want to see your mother’s smile again in your dream?

Fine.

But I have a request.

The ceremony must be held in Wenwei Hall.

Lu Chuan,

have the Ministry of Rites arrange it.

Pass my message to His Majesty.

That won’t be a problem

but Wenwei Hall has been abandoned

since it was redecorated after the fire.

It’s not a good venue

to hold the ceremony.

That’s where my mother used to live.

If justice is brought to my family there,

she’ll be able to

rest in peace.

Fine.

I’ll see to it.

Why did you stop?

Eryu taught me to play the flute,

but he didn’t remember the full score.

Somehow,

I found it familiar

the first time I heard it.

Because you’re Eryu.

I don’t think I’ll see him again.

The full score will never be known.

Twisted Fate of Love.

The love of my life.

Can’t the two of us

complete it?

Write down what you remember.

Then we’ll fill in the rest.

How hard can it be?

Good idea.

Music Score

Music Score

This one is close.

I think

the previous one is better.

We’ll use mine.

I’ll listen to you next time, alright?

Don’t try to fool me.

You’ll say the same thing then.

I’d love to make decisions for us

for the rest of our lives.

You’re a control freak.

Life is long.

Why would I spend it with you?

If not me,

who would you rather be with?

Are you mad?

You can fill in the notes.

Fine.

I’m yours.

I’m yours for the rest of my life.

Sadly, life is so short.

Music Score

Finally, it’s complete again.

If one day

I left,

this melody could replace me

to be with you.

Twisted Fate of Love

Twisted Fate of Love Didn’t you say you’d never leave me?

What are you thinking?

I didn’t mean that.

What I’m saying is

one can only live so long,

but this score can be passed down

from generation

to generation.

This melody is the token of our love.

Come with me.

Wenwei Hall

Mother!

Your Highness,

you’re the only one left to carry on the Mings’ bloodline.

You can’t be in danger!

Forgive me, Your Highness.

Feng Xi!

Are you alright?

My head hurts.

I’ve recalled something in the past.

It seems so surreal.

If the past is painful,

just let it go.

Think of the future.

We have a new life ahead of us.

If what you said at the Zhuming Post is true,

my days are numbered.

No.

The past can be changed,

so can your fate.

Feng Xi,

don’t give up.

I didn’t give up

when I saw my mother died in front of me,

even being homeless.

This time,

if I can redress the Mings’ injustice

and get Xinyao out,

all my suffering

and sacrifice

will be worth it.

Feng Xi,

life isn’t that unpredictable.

You died for me once.

This time,

I won’t let it happen again.

Dongyue!

Dongyue!

It happened that day. I wasn’t wrong.

What’s going on with Dongyue?

Feng Xi.

We’ve finally met.

Who are you?

You’ve completed

the melody I forgot.

Are you Eryu?

Yes.

I’m Eryu

as well as Pang Xi.

You’re...

me?

The world is filled with two powers.

Love

and hatred.

That melody

incorporates Noble Consort Ming’s wish

for eternal love with His Majesty,

her cry of despair

and your frustration and resentment.

So

you represent my unresolved hatred?

After you died in the previous life,

your hatred lingered on

and kept me alive as a roaming soul

until I met Wen Xin.

We supported each other.

In that chaotic world,

she was my only source of warmth.

She was determined to change the world,

North Gate

so I used my power to reverse time

and bring her back to the past.

You remember it?

So I

found Dongyue?

My mission is complete.

Hold on.

You said she came back last time

at the cost of her life.

There must be a way to save her.

Only you

can cure yourself.

Only you can help the Mings.

And only you

can save Dongyue’s life.

Can I?

But how?

Dongyue’s body

is supported by the energy of the flute.

It’s run out

after so many time travels

unless you can prolong

the life of the flute.

In what way?

You’re the owner of it,

so a life for a life.

Eryu!
