Twisted Fate of Love

Episode 39

Who is lurking around?

What do you mean lurking around?

I come to give the gift.

Why didn’t you come in the daytime?

His Excellency asked me to talk about the speech of congratulation.

Why do you look as if confronted by enemies?

Xi said

the wedding must go smooth.

Nothing can be wrong.

Come on.

Guess who’ll come to make trouble tomorrow.

Who cares?

When I’m here, no one can make trouble!

Would you like to bet?

You want a beating again?

No, no, no.

To be honest,

I’m so short of money lately.

All women in this world

are jealous of such a wedding.

How much would you like to bet?

Ten taels!

I bet the Crown Prince will come and carry off Dongyue.

His Highness is a decent man.

He won’t do this, however much he wants.

But Murong Yi, the niggard!

She fights over even a penny.

Maybe she’ll force Xi to pay her back,

in front of everyone tomorrow.

Xi will be ashamed to reject her.

I’ll bet twenty taels.

Who is praising me behind me?

See? Speak of the devil.

A little gift for your master’s wedding.

Also tell him

not to pay me back for the moment.

As for the title deed he mortgaged,

I’ll keep it.

He should buy me drinks.

Tomorrow’s wedding doesn’t count.

I’m waiting for him at Pingkang House.

It’s generous of you, Miss Murong.

Cool girl! Generous!

Daole.

Keep the bet on credit. I don’t have money with me now.

When will you pay me, then?

Why do you ask? I’ll certainly pay.

Are you short of money lately?

Being your brother-in-law costs so much.

I must save some money.

Pingkang House

You come to such a place before your wedding day,

and stay in one room with a single girl.

Won’t your wife feel bad?

You asked me to buy you drinks.

But there’s only a wedding feast at my place.

You’ll enjoy it tomorrow.

Besides,

Dongyue is sensible.

But that’s not the reason

why you love her.

When we love someone,

we don’t care for much.

If our nation weren’t to fall,

we wouldn’t have met each other.

Just like you and me.

Yeah.

If the royal family of Haoshan hadn’t been involved

in the case of the Ming family,

how would a broken-down prince like me

meet a broken-down princess like you?

A toast to our meeting.

There’s advantage to be broken-down.

A marquis has a complicated family, not to mention a princess.

I think it’s freer to be a businesswoman

than being a princess.

I’m afraid you forgot how helpless you were

when you first did business.

But I had you to reply on.

This is a toast to the days

when we traveled around together.

Cheers.

Seems like

such days are coming to an end.

People all think

you’re greedy for money

and you’re as mean as a miser.

But they never know

you save every penny

so that you can recover Haoshan

in the future.

Cheers.

Wish you’ll get what you want soon

and thank you for your selfless help.

How do you know I was giving selfless help?

Didn’t you fully help me

only because you appreciate

how I behaved?

Come on.

I admired you because you would do great deeds.

But look at you.

Minister Fang is on the run. You haven’t taken revenge yet.

But you’re loving a girl and getting married.

I really look down on you!

I can wait to take revenge.

But I can’t let my girl down.

Your girl isn’t as good as me.

Go with me.

I’ll take revenge for you.

And I’ll cancel your debt.

I’d like to owe you.

We can’t help loving someone.

We also can’t help

not loving someone.

I really despise you!

I’ll go to your wedding tomorrow.

Thank you for coming, Your Highness.

You’re welcome.

I lent you money to hold the wedding.

Enjoying the wedding feast is better than losing the money.

Don’t drink too much.

Who knows

what will happen tomorrow?

Do I ever hold up things because of wine?

Fine, keep drinking.

I’m going back for my future wife.

Go away.

Don’t bother to walk me out.

Modesty and Brilliance

Feng’s Mansion

Feng’s Mansion

Wedding

Everybody, thank you for coming.

Dongyue and I are poor people.

Thanks to the heaven-sent marriage,

we finally get married

through twists and turns.

Today, under the witness of the world,

and you, my guests,

we’re getting married

and promising to grow old.

Your Excellency, it’s time for the bow.

Do it.

Yeah.

Bow. Bow.

So sweet.

The first bow to the heaven.

The second bow to...

Wait!

You disappeared for days.

I just wondered how to invite you.

Since you come without invitation,

why don’t you stay for the feast?

Guilty man Feng Xi, listen!

I’m not coming for the wedding feast,

but to arrest a criminal!

Criminal? Criminal?

What crime have I done?

You’re the remnant of the Ming family.

To take revenge, you killed Marquis An and Yin Shi.

You even colluded Lu Yuantong for rebellion.

You should be executed!

Fang Yuan, that case was...

You need evidence to charge a thief.

You have a terrible charge against me.

But excuse me,

where is the evidence?

In my opinion,

the evidence to prove Feng Xi’s identity

is kept in this mansion.

Your Highness.

Fang Yuan is lying!

Don’t trust him!

Dongyue.

I know today is your wedding day.

But Feng Xi committed monstrous crimes.

His families should all be killed.

I can’t see you get implicated

after marrying him.

No. You don’t understand!

Minister Fang.

Lu Yuantong colluded with Feng Xi

in Zhuming Post.

Then they fell out for a seal.

This seal is the evidence

to prove his crime.

Since Lu Yuantong failed to get it,

it must be kept in this mansion.

Seems like you come well prepared.

If you’re wise enough,

give us the seal early.

Maybe I’ll plead for you

when His Majesty punishes you.

Otherwise,

I’ll even turn your house inside out

to find the evidence of your crime!

Everyone here comes

for my wedding day.

I’m the host.

I shouldn’t disappoint them.

Why don’t we talk somewhere else?

Even if there were evidence of crime,

I wouldn’t hide it here.

Feng Xi!

Don’t worry.

Wait to be my bride.

Go.

There are certainly secrets here.

Come in, please.

Ask Hongzhe to guard at the door

in case of any change.

You two, guard at the door.

-Aye. -Aye.

Tablets of the Ming family

These...

These are tablets of the Ming family.

Your Highness.

You saw them clearly, huh?

Your Highness, you...

What are you doing?

You’re right, Minister Fang.

The evidence of crime is in this place.

But it’s not my evidence,

but yours!

What did you say?

Fang Yuan!

I thought you would come to me

after my wedding.

But you came today and messed up

my carefully prepared wedding!

I’ll get even with you for everything!

You are...

Yes.

I’m the only offspring of the Ming family.

These are tablets of my ancestors.

They’re not sinners,

but people who died with a deep regret!

Today, I’ll make you plead guilty to your crime!

There’s solid evidence for Ming Qian’s rebellion.

The fact won’t change, whatever you argue.

Princess Murong Yi of Haoshan can testify

you colluded Lu Yuantong to change the Instrument of Surrender

and destroyed the Ming family!

What Instrument of Surrender?

Tablet of Noble Consort Ming Yue Where is it?

Tablet of General Ming Qian Who has seen it?

Do you really think

the Instrument of Surrender is gone?

Instrument of Surrender

No way.

This must be fake.

How can you be sure

the Instrument of Surrender you ruined

was the real one?

How can you prove

you’re holding

the real one?

I can prove

this one is real.

Your Highness, you...!

Proved by the Instrument of Surrender,

Fang Yuan, you framed the Ming family up

and killed loyal ministers.

Just admit your guilt.

Feng Xi, how dare you!

You forged the Instrument of Surrender and cheated His Highness.

When I tell His Majesty about it,

see how he’ll punish you.

I’m the regent Crown Prince!

When I say you’re guilty,

you are!

You’re right.

I forged the Instrument of Surrender.

You forged the letter and slandered my family for rebellion.

As the offspring,

I’ll double the revenge.

Feng Xi.

How stupid you are!

Why didn’t you think about it?

How could I

change the Instrument of Surrender

only by myself?

Was I that bold?

How dare you shift responsibility at this moment!

Fine.

Fine.

What are you going to do?

If you’re Feng Xi

people think you are,

I wouldn’t do this.

But you’re not!

You brought down Marquis An,

killed Yin Shi

and got the Instrument of Surrender from Lu Yuantong,

for only one purpose.

To redress the case of the Ming family.

Your Highness, you flatter me.

Those people destroyed the Ming family.

But...

Pang Xi!

Brother.

The imperial seal in your mansion.

Only one man has it.

The Second Prince whose mother was Noble Consort Ming.

Pang Xi.

Why?

Why didn’t you tell me

when you studied with me in the palace?

Why didn’t you tell me

when you came back in the name of Noble Consort’s brother?

Why didn’t you tell me

when fighting with me for long?

I’m your younger brother.

What can you help if I tell you?

Can you deal with Marquis An?

Kill Yin Shi?

Or bring down Fang Yuan?

If I told you, you would be in more danger!

You’re the future emperor.

I can’t get you involved

in such an old case!

What’s your next plan?

Fang Yuan,

or Lu Yuantong?

Neither of them can get away!

I don’t care what you plan to do.

This time,

let me help you.

There’s great danger.

Brother.

No matter what danger there is,

we’ll make concerted efforts!

We’ll make concerted efforts.

Your Excellency!

Your Excellency, go!

Go!

Why isn’t Feng Xi coming out?

Kill them all!

Aye.

Hurry.

Your Excellency, this way.

Fang Yuan.

You can’t die!

You’re the only one to vindicate the Ming family.

You mustn’t die!

General Ming had great power.

How could he die just because I framed him up?

He had so much power

that he jeopardized His Majesty!

Why?

I think you know why.

Could it be His Majesty...?

Over so many years,

I’ve kept the secret for him.

He...

He...

Why did he...?

Your Majesty.

Even if I’m dead,

the case of the Ming family

will not end.

Be specific.

What is this key to?

Your Majesty.

I’ve been loyal to you

and kept the secret for you.

You...

You...

Go...

Go to my...

My...

Casi...

Fang Yuan!

Fang Yuan!

Fang Yuan!

Dongyue!

Dongyue, where are you?

Dongyue!

Dongyue!

Are you alright?

I’m fine.

Are you hurt?

No. I’m just tired.

Is there anything on your mind?

No.

I want some rest.

You may leave.

Okay.

Dongyue looks weird today.

Looks as if it’s cracking soon.

Every time you use the flute for a time-travel,

the bloodstain in it extends.

Its power dies down accordingly.

When it covers the whole flute,

the power will be all gone.

By then, your lotus body

will vanish.

Fang Yuan died in a mysterious way.

I think so, too.

Fang Yuan was taken away by Eagle,

but died out of no reason.

I think

there must be someone

behind him.

Eagle worked for him for years.

It may be an infighting.

Under the command of His Majesty,

you assisted Fang Yuan in arresting the offspring of Ming family.

Fang Yuan is dead.

And you’ll go back emptyhanded.

How will you explain?

Hide yourself with Dongyue lately.

When Father asks,

I’ll tell him I failed the mission.

He’ll just scold me.

Thank you for what you’ve done for Dongyue.

In the past,

I did everything

for Dongyue.

But not this time.

When we were little,

we stayed with each other.

We often listened when Noble Consort played the flute.

I still remember the song

we learnt.

I think differently.

I don’t want to recall

some old memories.

It’s been years.

You have suffered a lot, brother.

We misunderstood each other,

only because we separated since little.

Now, we know the truth.

If I tell Father who you are,

you can get back to our family

to be the Second Prince.

Xinyao.

When you call me brother,

I’m already feeling relieved.

But I’m not interested

in being the Second Prince.

In the past years,

Father didn’t allow anyone

to bring up anything about the Ming family.

It means

he still cares for you

and your mother.

If he knows you’re still alive,

he will recognize you.

You grew up under his protection.

You love him, but I don’t.

He killed the Ming family.

And I...

I’m one of the Ming family.

Between us,

the Ming family remained.

The Ming family made him hurt.

Before he recovers,

he won’t come back.

Since you don’t like to come back,

I won’t force you.

Before Father recalls his order,

take care of yourself and Dongyue.

Take care, too.

Your Highness!

Your Highness.

Dongyue?

Why are you coming, instead of resting?

I come to you.

Why? You look mysterious.

When Fang Yuan escaped,

he said

you didn’t tell Feng Xi the truth.

What is the truth?

Fang Yuan told me

General Ming didn’t die because someone slandered him.

He was killed because his power jeopardized His Majesty.

He was also killed because he knew it,

right?

You know who killed Fang Yuan.

You also know the man

behind the case of the Ming family.

It is no one,

but His Majesty.

You just don’t want Feng Xi to know,

right?

You’re right.

Father is the man

behind the case of the Ming family.

Fang Yuan and Lu Yuantong knew what he wanted

and then dared to frame General Ming up.

How poor Feng Xi is!

Now,

whoever wants to reverse the case

will be infuriating Father.

Father asked Fang Yuan and me to kill my brother.

Even though I changed at the critical moment,

I still don’t know

how to explain to Father.

So, you and my brother

must hide yourselves first.

When His Majesty wants to kill Feng Xi,

can he still survive?

Maybe there’s a solution.

If I tell Father who he is,

maybe

he will let go of him

for the sake of family love.

Do you think

your father cares for families?

If my brother goes

to Father personally

and admits who he is,

he might have a little chance

to touch Father.

But...

Feng Xi hates the man who killed the Ming family.

How would he recognize his father?

Seems like I don’t have much time.

Your Highness.

Could you do me a favor?

What is it?

I want to see His Majesty.

You want to persuade Father

to accept Feng Xi?

You can’t go against

your father’s order.

Feng Xi can’t meet him.

I’ll go persuade him.

No way.

I’m his son.

But when I bring up the Ming family,

I annoy him.

If you do it,

you’ll get killed.

Let me see His Majesty

and I’ll manage to do that!

Say no more.

What you must do is

to hide yourself with my brother.

I will take care

of the rest.

King of Haoshan has surrendered to us.

I’ve offered

the Instrument of Surrender.

Fang Yuan.

Why is this General Ming’s letter to the enemies?

Instead of the Instrument of Surrender from Haoshan State?

Your Majesty.

As the military inspector,

I didn’t want to fail my job.

So, I got to know

General Ming colluded with Haoshan State

and wanted to rebel.

But General Ming has many informers.

I had no choice,

but to steal the letter

and send it to you by hiding it in the military report.

Please see it clearly, Your Majesty!

Fang Yuan!

Your Majesty, please understand.

He’s framing me up.

In the box

is the Instrument of Surrender!

It’s an important thing.

In case others knew it,

I specially asked Vice-general Lu

to disguise it as the military report of a success.

He saw the Instrument of Surrender.

He can be my witness.

Did you see it?

I sent the letter without seeing it.

Xinhu Teahouse

Sealed by Court of Judicial Review This teahouse used to

have many customers.

Why was it suddenly closed?

Because of Fang Yuan, I guess.

Fang Yuan?

What does it concern him?

Fang Yuan accumulated wealth for years.

He has more than one teahouse in the capital.

Many shops and houses around belonged to him.

Now he’s dead.

People take them over.

These people rush to buy his estates,

trying to find out what he has been hiding.

It’s about His Majesty and the case of the Ming family.

I must find it before them.

Do you know what other estates

Fang Yuan had in the capital?

What? You want to buy some?

No.

I just wonder

how much wealth he has accumulated.
